Nit huge, but a pretty nice, modern Zoo and quite a few new attractions yet to come. Great place to let the kids run wild.

Admission prices are average but for Aucklanders with young kids the year pass is a really good option to save some $$$

Decided to come here whilst we were in Auckland for the day on our Royal Caribbean cruise. Nice facilities and animals, but nothing too special, similar to something like Taronga Zoo in Sydney where I'm from.

I've been to the Auckland Zoo twice. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon. If it's not too hot out the animals are usually visible. There are kiwi birds in one of the inside exhibits which we were able to see on our first visit. One of the other reviews mentioned it was too dark but in my experience it was just dark enough for this nocturnal bird to make an appearance. Overall the restrooms are maintained, the eating areas are a decent size and kept clean, there are a reasonable number of attractions and the zoo staff is friendly. It's a nice way to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

New refreshed layout. Constructions are still going on (July 2020), this means there are NO tigers, some routes are one way in and one way out only...no loops/cut throughs available. The items in gift shop are really expensive. A hand size soft animal fluffy toy will set you beck $28.00. There are no more visitors from overseas so The Zoo should really be kind and consider to lower the prices for local, domestic customers as we are there to support the Zoo too.

Have visited many times in previous years. Animals well looked after and healthy. Last time was a bit disappointing as going through restructure and not many animals on display. Will visit after completed.

Great place for kids & family. It's half way through a new revamp and the new exibits are beautifully made. Many pit stops and baby changing places. Proceeds go to wildlife care. Learnings throughout on environmetal awareness and good practices.

We visited the Auckland Zoo on the weekends. Auckland Zoo is a great place for the family, especially for young children. There are many educational programmes within the zoo and also many fun activities to do. We have been here many times, but this time we finally saw the kiwi bird during their feeding time. The kiwi house was very dark so the cameras could barely film them due to no lighting.

Whilst the relatively small number of animals can be due to investment and visitor numbers your Customer Zoo Plan is due to idiocy. The simple task of putting You are here numbers at strategic points throughout the route corresponding to numbers shown on the plan would prevent less study of the plan and more enjoyment of the sites.

I had no idea what to expect from Auckland zoo. Turns out it's awesome! They have a really wide mix of animals, from your traditional giraffes and the like, through to some weird and wonderful local animals. Seeing kiwis so close was amazing! Whilst I was there they had a bug exhibition on too which was well worth the extra entrance fee. All in all a really enjoyable day out for the family.

Auckland Zoo is a 16.35-hectare (40-acre) zoological garden in Auckland, New Zealand, situated next to Western Springs park not far from Auckland's central business district. It is run by the Auckland Council with the Zoological Society of Auckland as a supporting organisation.

Auckland Zoo opened in 1922 experiencing early difficulties mainly due to animal health issues. By 1930 a sizeable collection of animals had been assembled and a zoological society formed. The zoo consolidated during the Second World War and was at that time under the leadership of Lt. Col. Sawer. After the war the collection was expanded, and in the 1950s chimpanzees were acquired to provide tea parties for the public's entertainment, but this practice ceased in 1964. In 1973 the zoo expanded into the adjacent Western Springs park. From the late 1980s to the present day, many old exhibits were phased out and replaced by modern enclosures. In 2011 the zoo opened its largest development, Te Wao Nui, which exhibits native New Zealand flora and fauna.

The zoo is separated loosely into areas defined by the region of origin of the species exhibited, its taxonomy, or by biome. The zoo plays a part in conservation (mainly of New Zealand species), research and education. It has many modern features such as the New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine (NZCCM).

Auckland Zoo is a full institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA), and received ISO 14001 accreditation for its Environmental Management System in 2007.

My friend and I really enjoyed our new zoo experienced. If you are a bit early, the animals are still on their hiding place, so have patience and they will come out very soon. What we also enjoyed was to see the animals up close.

I loved seeing all the animals in the zoo being so happy! The zookeepers are so enthusiastic and very informative about the animals there. The volunteers there are incredibly friendly. Always love going to the zoo!

I've been to San Diego Zoo and I can honestly say New Zealand zoos are much, much better. Better habitats/bigger habitats and the general welfare of the animals because of that seems far better. Auckland Zoo was a fantastic day spent with the family. Look forward to going back when the new exhibit opens.

Probably not as great as expected though was under going some renovations to tiger enclosure and expanding more user friendly areas. The kiwi enclosure was spectacular and rare to see. Most of the animals were sleeping and the otters were hidding. The meerkats are always active as cute

Great zoo in the heart of Auckland. It's surprisingly bigger than you'd think! The Safari zone is a huge hit and easily the best section however they are slowly renovating other areas to make this zoo a better experience. Good for visiting with little kids aged 12 and under, maybe too boring or small for anyone older (or if you've been to places like Australia Zoo).
