As someone mentioned, this does feel like a sacred place. I enjoyed seeing the many artists painting landscapes around the refuge especially near the marsh. Notice to visitors: When you come to visit, don't expect to see every animal that lives in the habitat...this is not a zoo. I think the greatest gift the refuge has to offer is peace and quiet and a meditative atmosphere.

We spent a couple of hours at the Everglades Festival and enjoyed every minute, leaf, and tweet. The pathways are accessible and well maintained. After being asked by several hikers coming towards us from the opposite direction: "how far is it to the end?" I would suggest putting distance markers throughout the trails. The staff and volunteers were informative, friendly, and encouraging. Ten stars for this venue!

i read the calendar of events and arrived for 'roving' tour and was undisappointed to discover i was the only guest. my guide immediately informed me that it'd been awhile since he did this and he did not know what i was hoping to learn from the walk, scheduled 1:30-3:15. i thought he was being self-deprecating but no. instead he recommended my watching an 18 minute video. big beef: boardwalk filthy with cypress needles. info-signage dirty with sap. 4-5 adults standing around in uniforms not sweeping. i am bringing my own broom today. a woman kindly informed me of the difference between guided and roving walk/tour. not sure whether i could've learned that important distinction from website. disappointed.

I would visit every day if possible. Great exhibits my favorites are the night in the Everglades and the "airboat ride" through the glades. It's not only for children. Have fun and learn.

Visited on Thanksgiving weekend. Totally different experience this time. Nasty old man at the gate collecting a $10 entrance fee. Lots of tourists walking around. Very aggressive alligators along the levee's. Not many fish to be seen in the water. The only trail worth checking out is the boardwalk trail behind the welcome center (which wasn't open, again. There is no shade anywhere else. This is now just a "place", and not worth the $10 entrance.

Beautiful nature reserve, if you re there I would definitely advise to take a boat out on the water if you re renting a canoe or bringing your own kayaks . The boats are cheap to rent and the nature center is preppy beautiful as well.

Really enjoyed our Guided Tour! The nature preserve is beautiful and you have a choice of hiking trails, guided evening walks, morning photo ops (sunrise photos are amazing), bird watching, canoeing, boating (NO airboats), boardwalk near the office/Visitor Center, biking/jogging trails are plentiful. PLEASE leave your pets at home. There is so much to see and learn. Very welcoming/friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Inquire (inside) about the yearly pass and also the tours. Nice Gift Shoppe inside the Visitor Center. Enjoy!

Love this place! If we were on vacation and found the wildlife refuge would be raving about it as one of the highlights of our vacation. this is such an authentic part of living in South Florida to be able to have access to see this kind of wildlife. it's especially cool coming on their annual Everglades day where there's all kinds of classes and demonstrations with experts in the field explaining to you what you're actually seeing.

Loxahatchee is a fantastic nature preserve. The abundance of wildlife is impressive. This property is owned by the state of Florida, though it is leased long term by the Federal Government. This is where on any day, one can count on spotting wild Gators living in their element. Arthur R. Marshall is a part of the River of Grass or Everglades.

The reserve is enjoyed by all. Some places are but short walks. You can drive on the pavement to various parts of the refuge. Trails are both wooden walkways whom even those who are handicapped to the fit, any level will enjoy. The enclosed walkways have signs along the way telling of what you see, and it's history. Then to dirt roads which encircle parts of the park. You can rent or bring a canoe or kayak and boat. The breathtaking beauty is found down every path. I suggest that you stop at the welcome center which is located just past the small entrance building. Upon paying your entrance fee to take an immediate right. Their volunteers will help you with everything from seasonal suggestions and a map. They have a wealth of information and can tell you what visitors are reporting throughout the oasis in the midst of the suburban sea,.

If you choose, while just on the edge of the reserve, a dirt road runs along the C-14 canal which is almost a guarantee to seeing gators. I suggest if this is your first visit, bring a camera as you won't be disappointed. Leave everything as you have found it, taken nothing away. Be quiet and listen, look all around. I've seen people on their phones who report nothing, to others pointing the way to a magnificent spot where wildlife has congregated. This describes a recent experience, on the same day and trail.

As people as they pass going in the other direction to what they have seen as they are often the best guides. That is unless it's someone jabbering away on the phone or looking down and playing a game, rule them out.

Nice boardwalk through the swamp. With some still readable information signs. Visitor ctr was closed b/c of covid-19 (admission was free). We took a bike ride along the canal, and we saw many birds and some turtles. The path is in the More

Just ok. If you rent a canoe it s a bit more interesting. Their is a canoe trail, well marked. It takes a few hours. Otherwise there is not much to do. A long walk alongside a canal. Hot, no shade.

The Real Florida at it's best! Part of the Northern Everglades with several scenic trails. You never know what you might see from water birds to song birds and maybe even an Alligator with it's babies!

We love this place. Very peaceful and we have actually seen a lot of wildlife. I really look forward to our weekly hikes. It's kept clean and most everyone hiking is very respectful and friendly.

Totally awesome and peaceful. A great place to appreciate the local wildlife and zone out in nature. I think they also have canoe rentals which would be great to go out in amongst the tall water grasses.

A great place to get out and walk, away from the virus! I want to add that we have been there often during the day. People are respectful, masked and distanced. We went to see the sunset and out of 70 people only 10 had masks. No social distancing. What is wrong with these people???????? With their selfish attitude, this will never end.

I really enjoy the canoe trail an have used it about six times a year in the past. I thought the $5 fee to launch my kayak was a bit steep, but worth it to me since it's about 12 miles from where I live, which makes it convenient.
Last Sunday I was shocked to find the fee had risen to $10.
While it is a beautiful area, the fee for one person to launch a kayak is really outrageous. I'm sorry to say that was my last trip to this site.

I like this park just wish the board walk by the nature center was longer. Wide open space, great for star gazing but they close at 10pm. Wish it was open to star gaze more as one of the few darks spots around here.

I've lived in the area for 20+ years, but this was my first visit to the Arthur R Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. It won't be my last. In fact, I purchased a year long pass because there was so much more to see and experience than can be afforded by a single visit.
This time around, my wife, daughter and I went to the visitor center, went on the boardwalk, and explored a bit of the surrounding area. There is so much to see and we plan to come back with bikes to get the full feel of things as well as picnic at the various pavilions. The cooler weather makes it the best time of year to visit to avoid both the heat and insects, but we still saw a lot of wildlife from gators to birds to insects and lizards. In fact we happened upon a vulture that was enjoy a "snake snack" (red racer). The visitor center has great exhibits and the staff is friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and immerse myself in nature once more.

Great place to see nature and wild animals in their natural habitat, very informative center with a nice gift shop. During my visit I saw 2 alligators, a snake, giant grasshoppers, several different species of birds, a squirrel, and many other insects and bugs I dont know the name of. Would highly recommend visiting Loxahatchee nature preserve, and support these places as they help nature and the Earth.

Love it

The swamp walk was awesome. The rest is for the serious hikers/bikers. Tower with telescope is a short mile. The area is huge. Edited to add depending where/when you are there bring off spray or suffer. Sector C7 has 2 alligators.

Beautiful preserve with miles of walking, biking and canoe trails. Rent a canoe to experience the real Everglades. The canoe trails provide some amazing sights at eye level with gators. Just don't feed or harass the gators and you'll get the same respect from them.

If you're not into the whole water thing, there are miles of walking trails to the north or south as well as within the preserve itself. Wildlife is also abundant in these areas.

If you're not up for going outside at all, there's a great nature center which provides an abundance of information, There's a recreation of the habitat right inside. There's also a virtual air boat tour that guides you through what you might find outside if you feel brave enough.

Overall HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We walked around Loxahatchee Nature Park but saw very few birds or animals. There is a raised platform to view the swamps but didn't see very much other than trees and grasses. It's easy to get lost as there are no signs hack to the parking lot. You can get free access if you have a National Park Service card.

I have been riding my trail bike on the levee for 14 years. It gets better and better. I've seen snakes, deer, alligators, amazing birds, armadillos, raccoons and bobcat. It's my true dream ride and it's only 20 minutes in my car from my home. There is no danger unless you are an idiot.

Such beautiful scenery of our Florida swamps. The trails are so easy to take, yet they're vast with lots see. We went on one of the shorter trails and were able to catch a glimpse of two gators, several birds, different species of butterflies, a turtle, and a variety of plant life. There's so much to see it'll take you more than one visit to experience it all. You can call the office for additional info. Highly recommend it for those nature buffs out there.

Great nature facility! Well worth the ten bucks for access to parking and grounds; free for Seniors with National Parks Pass. Informative guides (ours was Lowell) present examples of all kinds of foliage, explanation of the history of the land, the animals and the native population. Access road intersects in several places beyond the main nature center where there are trails. Main road ends at Everglades wetlands where there are trails along the levees and a place to rent canoes and kayaks--but be careful of alligators if you choose to row around...they ARE there!
