So my dad instilled in me that this was the top shelf restaurant in Raleigh. I'm doing everything I can to pass it on to my son and can tell it's working. To me it's about passing on the history or old school way of doing business. Service is always excellent and sincere.

We've been celebrating anniversaries and having gatherings for over 20 years at the Angus Barn. We recently had a Wine cellar event for my daughter's graduation. They've never let us down and the food and ambiance is alway top notch. It's an amazing place to enjoy life's moments, share experiences, and create lasting and unforgettable memories!
Simply the best restaurant in North Carolina. Amazing professional staff. Delicious food. This is not just a dinner. It's an experience. I take my law firm here for the frim holiday dinner very year.
Wonderful food and excellent service. The staff was very friendly and the ambiance very unique. Do not forget to ask for a tour of the cellar and gun collection if you can spare some time.
This is a local classic. Food was very good and an overall good experience. Yes, it costs a lot. Did you expect otherwise? Quality is not free. My steak was good. Can't call it the best ever, but it was good. 4 stars would not be a fair rating.
Great ambiance. Wasn't sure what to expect from the name - definitely worth adding to your list. Pricey ($$$) but everything was cooked just right. Had the ribeye. Medium rare. The perfect amount of pink. A Caesar Salad, and thin cut fries. Wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor of the steak itself (a little sweet for my tastes) but couldn't have been cooked better.
Waiter had drinks out before we knew it. Joined in jokes/conversation. Very friendly. Masks all around, tables spread far enough to social distance. 5 star recommendation.
What a fun experience! My boyfriend and I went for the first time and fell in love with the place. Not only is it stunningly gorgeous inside but the food was excellent!! Best steak I ve ever had hands down. Customer service was also exceptional!! Every single worker we interacted with was so kind and friendly and did a great job. Definitely going back!!
Had dinner here tonight, food was bland; Fries were not hot, but lukewarm, meat was good, but served over seemingly previously frozen vegetables. Bread was VERY bad, and cheese 'dip' for the crackers was hard as real butter! BIG disappointment. Not worth the hype.
We were very disappointed with the food quality and taste. The service was excellent. The steak had no flavor and the sides were of bad buffet quality. Amazed at the hype and pricing.
Just tried Angus Barn for the first time. I don't know what the hype is about. I've had a better steak at the free steak night at my campus dining hall. Seriously. The sides and appetizers were also underwhelming for a place with this reputation. Staff was friendly enough, but man, set your sights lower and get a steak from some sort of all-you-can-eat buffet... it might actually be a slice off the same cow.
Decor is overdone. Food and drinks very overpriced, can get the same quality food and service at a nice restaurant. Very crowded, squeeze in way too many people. I found it amazing that so many people were willing to spend that kind of money. I went with friends, but will definitely not do it again.
My wife and I attended for her birthday, and have no regrets. From the moment we walked in, the whole experience was top shelf.
Our reservation was for 9pm, but we arrived at 7:45 to have cocktails in the Wild Turkey Lounge, but they were able to seat us right away. We had a seat close to the corner of the main dining room, which allowed a great ability to just watch everything. As we walked to our table you are instantly put at ease by the all the staff and the assortment of guests. While there are obviously people there for special occasions, you also have people in a much more relaxed state befitting the rustic barn feel of the decor.
(This is perhaps my one disappointment, that beer drinkers, while given an okay selection, have not nearly the breadth or depth of choices or craft options as I would hope. And the lack of local options, was also a little disappointing. We have one of the strongest beer communities in the country and it not reflected here, but this is a steak and wine place, and they do that better than anyone in Raleigh.)
All the entrees included a side and said or soup. My wife had the French onion soup, and I had a spinach salad with a warm lemon poppy seed dressing. Both were good and well executed. I didn't love mine, but that's more because I ventured from comfort zone. My wife loved hers, as it took her back to special dinners with her parents at quaint little joint in Melbourne Beach, FL.
For the main courses I had a 10 oz filet and she had a generous portion of prime rib, since I was going to have a couple of large bites. Both were cooked perfectly to order. My filet had all the delicate tender texture and beef flavor I expect. The red wine deduction was good, but not necessary. Her prime rib was a perfect medium rare throughout and perfectly trimmed to have a great meat to fat ratio. The horseradish and beef au jus were a great pairing.
We both had the stuffed potato for a side, and at our servers suggestion, we had generous dollops of sour cream plopped on top. It was a decent side, but definitely didn't feel the need to devour it over the main.
As we were celebrating her birthday, we got a free vanilla pound cake. Not a slice, but a whole 6inch round cake. It was quite good with the fruit and whipped cream topping, and we have plenty of left-overs.
We retired to the "Meat Locker" where we able to enjoy a cigar and scotch after our meal. This involves a great behind the scenes look at the enormous kitchen and all the happy and polite kitchen staff. You end up in a great little spot with an open air porch or a chair by the fire on the stone patio. Their humidor has some great selections, and if you are a Fuente fan, an amazing selection. So many Opus options. I didn't see a full scotch list, but all I wanted was a Glen Fidditch, and they were happy to oblige.
And this is where I think they really shine. The service is great, the atmosphere unique, and it all adds up to a unique experience where we were made to feel relaxed and at home. It's not often such high-end dining has that feel. Never were we intimidated into ordering fancy and overly expensive wines or appetizers. It was there, but we never made to feel unwelcome for not partaking. Our server has been going there since he was a baby and his insights into our meals made it all the better. We also have a great French toast recipe that his mom makes with the left over pound cake. It's not like traditional high-end dining, and in my opinion it is all the better for it.
For over 25 years the Angus Barn has consistently delivered great food, drinks, service and ambiance to us. Last night along with the standard relish tray and fresh buns we enjoyed their french onion soup and 3 cheese ravioli appetizers. Filet tips with lobster newberg and 7 oz filet entrees, then ice cream and pound cake to take home as we were stuffed! Our only complaint is how hard it is to find parking!
Service is always excellent, and food is always very good. Value just isn't there. A number of places produce food just as good, often for significantly lower cost.
Wow!!!!! I had a wonderful time! It's definitely a one of a kind place. So much character everywhere you look. The Christmas lights were still up and it was beautiful. The food was delicious. I am vegetarian and didn't expect to get so stuffed at a steak house!!! Great service too. I was very impressed with our server. Just an all around wonderful experience. I have never been disappointed with this place.
This place is expensive, but that's probably what you'd expect for a place like Angus Barn. However, you would probably also expect steak to match that price. In my opinion, Sullivan's has better steak. You don't get the same overall experience as Angus Barn has a nice ambiance, but if you just want good steak, I'd look elsewhere.
The name says it all - Beef Eaters Haven - if you like steak you have to visit. The experience is amazing and the service unparalleled. One of THE places to eat in Raleigh.
I haven't eaten here in 20 years, but have fond memories from when I lived in NC. Had a chance to visit and was thrilled to see that nothing has changed. The cheddar cheese spread is still delicious. The French onion soup is very good. And the steak (I had prime rib) and the stuffed potatoes are both top notch! My dessert was a roll with honey butter - wow, it melts in your mouth.
Atmosphere is as I remember- barnlike and unpretentious. Service was outstanding - had two managers stop by to ask if I needed anything, in addition to my waitress.
And, for a steak house, prices are very reasonable.
It was ok...atmosphere is impeccable!! But they undercooked my wife and I steaks...we asked for medium well & they both came back medium rare...had to send both steaks back & wait to eat while everyone else enjoyed their food!! Other than that we enjoyed ourselves at the Angus Barn!!
The hype is real folks, every word you've heard about this place...it's better. Whatever your picturing, unless you've been here before you cannot truly know. The Angus barn is, was, and always will be the place that will make you the star of the show if you want to bring someone somewhere special.
Picked up prepared dinner last night. We ordered 2 bacon wrapped filets cooked to a temperature of medium well. We had a baked potato, mashed potatoes, green beans and cheesecake. This was for a special birthday dinner. The pickup service was great. Very efficient and friendly. However, the steaks were very subpar. They were supposed to be cooked to a temperature of medium well. They were over cooked to a colorless WELL DONE.They were dry and nearly tasteless. Our home is only a seven minute drive from the restaurant so I don t think the travel time was a factor.
Don t waste your time on precooked meals that are considerably over priced for the poor quality. We have tried picking up the frozen steaks and preparing them at home and they were terrific.
We have gone to the Angus Barn for so many years but tonight was the first time that we took the tour! What a treat... and to have the owner Van to be the one to take us on our tour, talk about getting the inside scoop!!! The food and staff amazing as always!!! Such a great night! My favorite place to dine!!!
Classic higher end steakhouse. Best service ive had in years. Very interesting enviroment and super duper wine list and wine celler. First time seeing a $22000.00 bottte of wine. The spinach salad was off the hook and the hospitality was something to behold. .we had the chateaubriand for 2, it was the most tender beef i have had but it being fillet mingon was not as beefy tasting as i would prefer but excellent non the less. I definetlly will return and go for a beefer option. When you eat here come early and allow time to take it all in like the gun collection and patio with all the apples.
Great experience and food. Atmosphere carries you away to an awesome evening. Way top notch service! Fun, large, busy! Shop near entrance carries whole cheese cakes, quilts, and more. Impressed with the hostess, my goodness she walked us thru the place, insured we had great time and gave us all sample bites of the chocolate cheesecake.. We took home the huge wheel to celebrate our son's Doctorate! Thanks to my daughter and son-in-law for generous gift certificate for our 45th wedding anniversary. Our youngest daughter accompanied us. She and I did a photo shoot in the ladies boodwa. So decorative and colorful. The delightful atmosphere lends to easy friendly talk with former strangers.
Went to the Angus Barn with family from out of town as its "the place" to go to when visiting The Triangle. It's not cheap, the total bill for 4 people, 3 drinks, 2 apps, 3 ribeyes, 1 am order of ribs, and a couple of salads which are a separate charge was $239. That being said the cost was expected so it was not surprised. The steaks were cooked to order and perfect. I ordered a ribeye, the garlic mashed potatoes and a ceaser salad. Getting a ceaser at a steak house is my thing and they make a fantastic ceaser. They do not hold a table unless at least half the party is present. We were not and the host looked the other way for my wife to sit at table since we were in route even with parties waiting. All in all a great dinner for the family.
What a wonderful experience. The service and food is the best I have experienced throughout the country. Will definitely be back in the near future. Worth a try and you will be so happy that you did.
Best dinner and dining experience we've had since we moved to Cary 2 mo. Ago. The food, service, tour and ambiance were head and shoulders above the rest.
There's a reason you always take folks visiting the Triangle for the first time to the Angus Barn. There is no better place to let people know how warm, welcoming, talented, and hospitable Raleighites are! Seeing folks eyes grow big with that first taste of Chess Pie is classic!
I absolutely love going to the Barn every year for my birthday! I have several girlfriends that looks forward to coming here as well. We always make reservations in October for December 17. The food and service is always excellent Can't wait to to sit down with great friends and food !!
Simply beautiful!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas outing. The service was great thanks to Randy, food was awesome and plentiful and the decorations were magical.
Second visit and definately not as good as the first. Felt rushed, the wait staff did not explain anything or take any interest in the reason for our visit.
Always such an amazing experience . We love the Wild Turkey Lounge followed my a wonderful dinner. Prime rib and lobster, roasted red pepper soup, the creamed spinach is excellent. Angus Barn always makes it a fantastic time. Thank you Can and your excellent staff. Ashley was lovely and accommodating. Can't wait to visit again.
Our server Alex F. was top notch. Between his attention to detail and award-winning personality, mixed with a dining experience which can not be replicated anywhere in NC, Angus Barn is a must visit restaurant.
The food here was phenomenal. I had the New York steak with a loaded potatoe! I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good Steakhouse. Oh yeah and you actually are in a barn! You really do feel like you're somewhere in the country enjoying dinner in someone's house. Great experience.
Always a fun time and there Moto is to please the customer. Van the owner is the BEST and always interacts with the guest. We drive 1 1/2 hours there to eat! Home away from home.. Must GO !!!
