First time I've been to this zoo for 40 years - it was absolutely fantastic, the most friendly and helpful staff/volunteers, beautiful gardens and animal areas. Great to see the pandas today
Spent all day and wanted to stay longer great fun and huge range of animals
Adelaide Zoo
This Zoo is one great attraction:
The animals have a friendly vibe. Every visit brings smiles as the walking trails lead you around so many different directions. The large enclosures are great for the animals, who look well fed, their enclosures cleaned daily.
I always enjoy a visit to Adelaide Zoo.
Awesome. Worth it. Good food, good service, good happy alive animals. Interesting and educational
Went to the Zoo just after Christmas. The dinosaur exhibit was in town. Absolutely sensational. The zoo needs your support. If you haven't been down in a while, make the time and effort to take some friends or family. It's just a great day out!
Great facilities and many animals for the kids to see, though quite a few of the cages were empty on our visit. Fun day out for the kids and they even have a large playground, though not too safe for kids under 5years (lots of high climbing things and not much for the littlies). Food is very expensive so I would recommend a packed lunch as there are many grasses areas for a nice picnic.
Great spot for the family, Be organised n take yr own snacks, nibbles, etc. Don't go o n a stinking hot day as i did, as u will miss out on the animals being full of energy or not even get see them all. The store has got heaps of wonderful merchandise available but way over priced.
Disappointing. Had to go to entrance for coffee. More like a botanical garden. Could see it all in 90 minutes. Too expensive for what you get!
Amazing, we went on a weekday and it was quite animals were out to put on a show, food at the cafe was amazingly delicious.must see if your in Adelaide
Got in really quick. The only thing I will suggest is for people, if you want to see the animals out and about go in the afternoon.
Had an amazing day. $97 for 2 Adults and 4 Children was a fair price. The gift shop had affordable souvenirs for the kids to buy.
Where else can you see all these exotic and beautiful animals in Adelaide? The food and such are expensive but if it weren't, I'd be concerned! The staff are great, helpful, friendly and the events they host for people's entertainment are excellent!
Its amazing how much they squeeze in to a relatively small area, with a great variety of animals and lush green gardens throughout that make you forget how close you are to the city. Even on hot days there is so much shade its nice and cool to walk around. The new facilities have given the place a well deserved refresh and are great, while retaining classic areas. A new adventure playground for the kids (and kids at heart) is a great addition letting the kids also have some fun swinging around, not just for the monkeys. Easy to spend a day here with plenty to see and do, and plenty of places to relax around and have a picnic lunch as well. Plus this is the only place in Australia you can see the Panda's as well, so while its not as cheap to enter as some mention, its a lot cheaper than travelling overseas to see these wonderful animals :) Staff are also really friendly and passionate about what they do. All up, a great place to visit.
Amazing facility but most of the enclosures were too small. Not enough water in other enclosures and 80% of the animals looked miserable.
Had the best time at the Adelaide Zoo.
Shared the experience with grandson, 5 years old.
Over the years so many improvements have been made to enclosures, gardens and amenities.
Highly recommended
Great for all the family, the zoo has really progressed over the last few years, adding new parts and revamping old, still quite expensive, and if you intend to come a few times in a year, a season ticket is definitely a must.. The kids playground is fantastic and is great in its own right....
Amazing place. Must visit. Sad that so many of our fellow life forms are critically endangered. Wonderful staff. Thank you
Got to see lots of lovely Australian animals closely! Zoo keepers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Very worth to visit and surely will visit again!
I recommend everyone continue to ho to the zoo to support them. We were lucky. The tiger was cooling in his pond. A Panda was right in front of us lazing about. Both lions sprawled on the lawn near the fence and Mr. Lion gave us a few roars. Lucky us. Now the goats were super fun when we fed them. Quite the guzzlers of food. Then there was ice cream at the end of other animal antics.
Great environment, helpful staff, talks from keepers and volunteers interesting and free. Always lots to do and see.
We came all the way from North Yorkshire in England to visit our sons and family. They brought us to your wonderful zoo/wildlife park. A great family day with much to do and the staff know thier animals. Great food as well and we will be there again this Christmas/New Year and the zoo will be on our definite visit list again.
Convenient location and an overall great place to escape in the city. Great for a nice day out, going for a walk, etc.
Great zoo, 90% of the animals were up and eating and fun to watch. Great enclosures to see all the animals. There is thousands of birds in the bird enclosures that would pop out from every corner
Recent upgrades include a huge nature playground where children can climb and balance. There is a challenging climb for children aged 5 and above. Ample soft fall for accidents. We all especially love the bird show on the grassed area. 2 years ago we bought 5 year zoo passed which have been worth while, easy just to visit for an hour or two if we are in the city.
This place is the only great place in Adelaide to c animals enclosed, great for tourists but is a very great place to c
It is a really nice zoo! Bloody hot and even many of the animals were taking shelter, get in early if you're going in summer. Cool dino expo on at the moment too.
Great seeing the pandas, disappointed at some of the animal enclosures they seemed very old and run down. Also a lot of enclosures had no animals in them. I really felt bad for the seals I feel their enclosure was the worst.
Great playground for kids and lots of shady spots for a nice picnic. Some exhibits (lions, giraffes, sealions especially) are tired and in need of a serious upgrade. One comment I must make is that they use takeaway coffee cups even if you're dining in. For a place that is all about environmental conservation this seems wrong to me. They should be ahead of the game as far as plastic waste. They also got rid of the big sauce bottles in favour of the small (plastic) packets. I know these are minor things but it really grinds my gears.
Great for a family day out, friendly staff great new attractions. They are revamping the entrance at the moment. There is an alternative entrance on the side..... Have Fun !!!!!
The enclosures created for the animals are more naturally looking than the bare iron cages of years gone by. Lovely to see monkeys in the huge moreton bay trees.
Good zoo, kids liked the meerkats, and the playground. Apparently once a day, the monkeys scream (or start talking) and it's quite the experience how a little animal can be so loud. the day we went they started up just before 11AM.
Kids love it. Current show (early 2019) with some giant insects and animatronic dinosaurs
Took our one year old here for her first birthday and she loved it. So much to see and do and the grounds are perfect for a picnic.
Magical place for the whole family. Doesn't matter your age, it's amazing for tomorrow and old. Great atmosphere, plenty to see and do, caters for everyone. Highly recommend a visit or two or three
Small zoo charged high fee 37aud, only one koala and few kangaroo are there. Not worth it if one doesnt have kid
awesome place..must visit..wonderful work by Hassell Archiects
A lovely place to spend the day..Plenty of open lawn spaces..seating..shade...drinking fountains and good enclosures for the animals.
Also a restaurant.
Wheelchair Accessible paths and Toilets..Staff were very helpful as well.
Such a beautiful place to spend a great day with family and especially kids. I have visited Adelaide Zoo for the first time with my family and lovely every bit of it. I have been to many different Zoo's in different countries but this one is best for me. Cafe, kids playing area amd overall atmosphere is awesome.
Highly recommended place for families with kids
Lots of fun for the family. Nice to see so many families out and about
A very nice, small zoo with lots of beautiful animals.
Small but beautiful zoo. The fact you can see entirety of place in 90min the short experience is made up by the absolutely amazing selection of animals. Thanks Adelaide zoo and all the staff, il be back next school holidays to do keeper for a day with my daughter. Check out all the different animal encounters available... Get real upclose and personal
The morning feeding lions and tigers was a great experience to see the big cats up close. Highly recommend it to anyone considering doing it
Lots of shady areas to sit, rest, appreciate. Displays change frequently with regular upgrades.
We love the zoo. Lots of fun animals to see. The playground is amazing. We usually do a combo of a packed lunch and buy something sweet after. Always lots of nice places to sit for a picnic while we walk around. Gift shop is average. I feel like they sell a lot of things related to animals that you can't even see at the zoo. And their prices are quite high . Lovely setting. Close to cut. Really simple parking and not too pricey to park either which is great!
Our zoo is pretty good, and has taken considerable steps over the years to improve animal comfort as well as variety, while presenting the best visitor experience it can. I feel it still has quite a way to come, and there are often many areas which are vacant. Our zoo reminds me a little of Vienna's Schoenbrunn Zoo, but not as good.
I've always loved the zoo. The komodo dragon was the reason we came and we were not disappointed. But the greatest highlight was the performance by the resident lyrebird, nova. We mustve sat there listening to him for 20 minutes. He made kookaburra sounds, radio frequency sounds, human voices on radio, laser sounds, and to our surprise r2d2 noises.
Beautiful little Zoo, so easy to get around and my main interest was to see the Pandas and I wasn't disappointed. We sailed on Popeye 2 to Zoo also a lovely way to see some of the City Buildings and Architecture.
Great place for entire family. Very well maintained zoo. Strongly recommend.
Not bad for a zoo.
You ll have to remortgage your house to gain entry though. You are not allowed to complain either - it s for the animals (don t ya know...?) and not the lame electronic dinosaurs littered around the place.
Great Zoological collection and the visitor facilities are good. A little expensive but worth it. Make sure to prepare for parking issues, otherwise take the Bus. There is a FREE City Loop bus (#98) that you can take from most Hotels in the CBD. We used the FREE #98 bus to go everywhere in Adelaide. There are limited spaces on Frome Rd and Plane Tree Drive [ONE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL RD] (Botanic Gardens). Your best bet is on Plane Tree Drive (Botanic Gardens) enter off Hackney Rd. It is often easier to find a park near to the Botanic Gardens side and only a short walk to the Zoo entrance rather than driving closer to the Zoo and then finding out there is no parking available.
Great zoo. Lots of animals to see. Lots of extras available also. Cafe is good - better if you get members discount. The playground is amazing. We spend hours here.
Nice to have craft beer but need to offer other well.known in beers at least in bottle form if not in kegs
Great zoo an only one in Australia for now who havetwo giant panda bears on lone from china
We came specifically to see the Pandas but couldnt see them so dont rely on seeing something particular.
Overall was a great zoo
Beautifully set out, the Zoo Keepers where happy to chat about the animals that they look after.
Adelaide Zoo is always a great experience. We went this morning for one of the animal encounters, and had a great time hanging with keepers working with all of the primates. We got to see some cool behind the scenes locales, and got to see the orangutans and baboons up close. I definitely recommend if you get the chance you should do one too.
Got to get there early to enjoy and get full experience. The walk ways are wide for prams and wheelchairs plenty of ramps as well. If you want to hire a wheel chair best to call ahead and book one before you go there at a reasonable price. The kids playground was a suprise they have put allot of thought into the desighn and the kids looked like they were having allot of fun.
Facilities are easily assesable and clean.
Would like to see more allergy free options in cafe. You can bring your own food which is great. Love the shop near exit plenty of cute cuddly soft animal toys.
Cant wait to check out the zoo again was allot of fun, created memories for the family and friends.
I love going to the Adelaide Zoo! Good variety of animals and facilities, although it is sorta aimed more towards young children, and the price is quite high by some standards. But overall very enjoyable and love to visit once in a while
Clean, well managed place with decent variety of birds and animals. Staff is friendly and efficient. However, they sure need to make their animal shows more engaging and interesting. I loved the overall design and also the variety of plants and trees.
Nice zoo. Not too big and easy to get around. Good exhibits with interesting animals.
It's been upgraded heavily since the last time I went. Had a great time with plenty of new animals to see
I love animals in their natural habitat and so does my kiddo. And like most of animal lovers, it hurts me deep when I see little animals confined in cages. Even though Adelaide Zoo is indoor, I loved it. Well, the reason is, they have a lot of species that are near extinction and they are working on helping them to survive. Sadly, most of these species wont last in wild if left alone.
The directions/signage in this zoo were confusing than all of the zoos in victoria. However, there were a lots of volunteers around to help if required.
Worth a mention is the shady track all around the zoo due to tall bamboo trees that makes your visit a bit comfortable on sunny days.
Children zoo and playground are star attractions of this zoo.
We had to do couple of rounds to find a parking spot which was free on a weekend.
Pro's:
- Great kids areas
- Good shade and areas to rest
- Most areas are very accessible
Con's
- Very hard to see the marquee attraction (Pandas) because there is so much glare from artificial lighting on the glass. It was not possible to take photos, because they only show reflections on the glass, and a barrier separates patrons from the glass, so you can't cut
down glare.
We have an annual pass to the zoo and my kids love going. There is so much room for the zoo to improve and I hope they do continue. I know they have a plan in place and it has such potential! For now, the animals are well looked after from what I can tell and the volunteers who walk around are always so friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great day out for everyone. Oh, the grounds and plant life are incredible. Such a beautiful area!
The pandas were out walking around and enjoying the gifts for their birthday
Despite my reservations (pun unintended) regarding keeping animals in unwholesome environments, I came to Adelaide Zoo on the basis of their conservation work. To that end, there is a clear thread running through the exhibits of the Importance of biodiversity and it's conservation, as well as a clear sense of environmental custodianship, recycling at various spots.
It seems to me the exhibits are optimised for the viewers not the animals, but it is reasonably sensitively done, the animals cared for and the place a marvel of land usage, tucked surreptitiously into a relatively compact space in the city. I've lived here for years without understanding how much they've fitted in.
There was the bizarre element of a barbecue on - someone didnt get the memo about the dubious politics of cooking animals at a wildlife sanctuary - and a few other off-key notes. For the most part, though, it is a gentle meander through a cleverly designed space that stands testimony to the richness of our world and the creatures we share it with.
I was at the Zoo with .u daughter in law anf Grandson. I found the entry price way too expensive. I was only at the Zoo for an hour and a bit. My grandson loved the slide playgrouund and was too young to appreciate anuthing else. It was a very expensive experience for a couple of goes on the slide!!
A lovely Zoo that's easy to get around in one day. Staff are super friendly and are happy to have a chat and answer any questions whilst they're tending to the animals. The children's zoo is fabulous, where the kids can get up close and pat small animals like goats, alpaca's, wallaby's and even quokkas! Which are super cute.
Oh and the playground at the restraunt is flipping amazing! My kids would go there just for that if given the chance
Not the best as yeah it smells bad and there is barely anywhere to sit. My legs were dead by the end of the day but so worth is it you like taking photos or just looking at animals.
