So historical! Came from San Diego for the fried chicken! So amazing! Loved the wonderful shops everywhere!

Zenders is a great place to go, I've been a customer for over 50 years , food , service, atmosphere are always great. Lived Birch Run for 17 yrs and ate there at least 3 ti.es a week. Remember it's more than just chicken, it's a full menu.

The chicken was not crispy and had very little seasoning. We expected a tasty, crunchy, golden brown serving of chicken and much to our disappointment, didn t get it. But, the chicken was moist and juicy; the roll crunchy; mac and cheese was cheesy and the dressing was good.

Cozy restaurant, wonderful place very well decorated. The food just remember the original German food. Could be better.

The food, the town, the river, horses, people.....alot of character,nice place to visit with your friends and family.loved it!!

Visiting there is like stepping back in time for very good fried chicken. The service is always above par as well. If you are anywhere within 100 miles of this place it's worth stopping by.

The decor was great...but I wasn't too impressed with the food. Of course we only had the basic family feast. We'll try the other options next time.

Afterwards, we went downstairs to the bakery and purchased several items, including a small Dutch Apple pie. It was fantastic!

We ate at the Z-Chef's Cafe and I must say the food was very good. I didn't get the traditional chicken dinner but the chicken and gravy dinner. I was very pleased and I will get it again!

Drove 1 1/2 hours for 530 dinner reservations, arrived just before 5pm for their Sunday buffet only to find out they closed it at 430 today. They apparently don't have any set time for it and nowhere on their website does it say they might close it before dinner. Who does that? Isn't dinner usually the busiest time? Extremely disappointed that we drove so far just to leave. The manager didn't seem to care much either. Very upsetting all around.

After our not so great experience and speaking to one of the managers (Cody) we decided to come back and give this another shot.
Everything was amazing this time around. Cody greeted us upon arrival. Our server Caleb was absolutely wonderful and on top of everything! We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience.

Excellent as always. A family tradition for us when were in the area. I know that you are know for your fried chicken, I just have one suggestion. I'd like to see a grilled chicken or pork offering.

The food was quite good, but nothing exceptional, but you can't help but appreciate the nearly 150yr history and the community they built around it. Definitely visit if you are in the area.

For years whenever friends or family come to town we always took them to Frankenmuth and Zehnder's as it made for a great day trip and a good meal to boot. But while Frankenmuth in general has not lost its charm, Zehnder's has become mediocre at best. The last three times we've gone the chicken has been dry, the stuffing burnt having been scraped off the bottom of the pan and the flavor of the noodles, soup and vegetables lackluster or missing. The garlic bread has become softer (stale?) but still tasty and they always seem to be low or out of ice for drinks. Service is still pleasant and courteous but due to the quality of the food I can no longer recommend Zehnder's as the must stop restaurant in this little German town.

When in Michigan, you must visit the little town of Frankenmuth. It is a time honored German Bavarian village. When choosing which side of the street to eat at, I highly recommend Zehnder's. Family style dining is the way to have the best experience. Appetizers such as noodle soup and homemade slaw and main course dishes like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and stuffing are served in large bowls meant to pass around the table. Weekends can get busy so come early, late, or call ahead for a reservation. Warning: Make your server aware of any nut allergies. Bread and stuffing contains nuts.

Nothing special. Good decent food. Some was amazing, some was sub par. Server was good. Super insanely busy.

The absolute chicken dinner I have ever had. Chicken seasoned perfectly, all the accompanying sides were wonderful. Food was served hot by a very pleasant waitress, Val.

The food was delicious, the waitress was very accommodating. We had a long wait but we knew we would and didnt mind due to the company that we were keeping.

We'll it's a nostalgic tourist trap. You go there for the experience not the quality of the food.

This establishment must be owned by the same people that own the Bavarian Inn across the street. Same food. Same price. Not very tasty.

Zehnder's has a long history and is well known across the region. However, their management of the customer experience is simply below average. They have long lines and are terrible at estimating the wait. For example, today we arrived and were told the wait would be about 30 minutes... 45 minutes later, I asked how much longer and was told another 25 minutes. After another 20 minutes, I hadn't moved in the line, and decided to give up and go across the street where we were seated immediately. This is really disrespectful of customer's time, and shows a lack of caring about their experience.

I assume that because they are so busy, they feel they can afford to ignore these things, but it makes a difference. In this day and age, there's no reason to be so poor at handling this fundamental aspect of a restaurant business. And let's be honest here, the food, while good, isn't worth all that trouble.

If you plan to go there to eat dinner, you'd better put off any other things you wanted to do tonight until tomorrow.

We ordered the chicken since it's the best chicken ever... Place it's beautiful the workers are great and very nice people... I asked the guy for a nice light German beer..oh boy!!! It was delicioso!!! Here's a pic of my face tasting that beer (don't remember the name of the beer tho)

I was excited to have some fried chicken here, but the service was lousy and the chicken flavorless.

I picked up a family pack to take home and was annoying the waitress with my "basic" questions about where I pick up my order and what sides are available. You have tourists coming in all the time and we don't know how this works. Be nice! On the other hand, sides were good.

I spoke to the manager, but don't have faith that anything was done about it.

When I got home I was sorely disappointed with the chicken -- completely flavorless. Ended up slicing it up and using it for dog treats -- perhaps the only time when flavorless chicken is desired.

Next time through I will try bavarian inn!

Been going here every year for many years as a family. The chicken dinner is pretty good. Service can be slow sometimes and you end up waiting longer than one should. But overall a nice place to have a family meal.

The finest salty all-you-can-eat chicken dinners in Michigan! Almost never a wait more than 15 minutes, even without a reservation. Go for the experience of it.

Unreal busy. It's amazing the amount of people that can fit in there and the amount of food they bring you.

As remembered on several different occasions, a pleasant dining experience whether ala cart, or their "family style" all you can eat. Waiters/Waitresses and rest of staff are friendly and helpful. Great for 1 or 2 up to parties of 100 or better. Zehnders is worth the trip.

The Bavarian sausages add on for the chicken dinner is totally worth it for $3

I loved the atmosphere. The service was prompt and on point. The food was good, I loved the rotisserie chicken (I really wanted their fried chicken, but have been eating poorly lately ) and the German cuisine. The prices were reasonable and the location is great. Definitely stop by and enjoy what Frankenmuth has to offer.

I wasn't that impressed. We waited in line for hours got out table and ordered the all you can eat and all we got we're bland tasteless dishes. Your chicken shouldn't need extra seasoning to taste like chicken. One star, I didn't think it was worth the hype or the wait

Very disappointed. You expect the chicken to be good but I'd take KFC over Zehenders any day.

Always great and super friendly service, can't say the same about the well known chicken dinner that people flock to.....very dry chicken....rather expensive as well for such low quality
