This restaurant is racist! I went here with my family earlier this month and was treated like an animal. It was so humiliating and barbaric. I couldn't believe they way we were treated, just to let you guys know we are Arab Catholic Americans! We were treated so bad it was unbelievable, and the manager just laughed in our face when we told them our concern. When they brought out our desert, every animal on it was a camel, EVERYONE! They didn't refill our water once! and they didn't even say one word to us the whole time we were there. RACIST RESTAURANT! BEWARE RACIST STAFF, RACIST MANAGER. Do not support racism!!!!!

My favorite part of the whole experience is getting the little colorful zoo animals that come on your dessert. I'm not a fan of ice cream, so I always skip it and ask for one of the cute giraffes that they put on the ice cream.

Thankfully my girlfriend made reservations and we got right in because the line to get seated was insanely long. Service was very good, food was average. I don't get all the hype about it but I can now say I've been there.

The atmosphere was great. The all you can eat family style chicken dinner was well worth the $24.95. My fiance and I both ordered it, we couldn't even begin to finish it. We have leftovers enough for 2 more meals. Great experience!

My family and I went there for dinner. We had the family style chicken dinner. It was really good. Ice cream was a nice little dessert. The kids loved that the ice cream came out with little animal figurines on top. My kids loved the drink called the bahama baby. My 10 year old loved looking at the wall with the history of the building on it. Our waitress Angela was wonderful. Very nice family restaurant.

Wonderful experience! We ate lunch here today in the Heritage Room, and it was delicious. Pam was our waitress, and was absolutely amazing and helped us out incredibly while being friendly, quick, and extremely nice. We had the classic chicken dinner, and were impressed with everything!

Not only was the food delicious, but our waitress was super friendly and incredibly helpful. They have a nice selection of gluten free foods for those who can't have gluten and a very knowledgeable staff. I'm a member of their rewards club and before this year I had to skip out on my free birthday dinner because of my health condition that as the meal was limited to their family style dinner (which for those who can have gluten you should try that. Its amazing from what my family says). This year they let me get a selection off of the gluten free menu and not only was it flavorful, but the portion sizes were very generous. The bakery downstairs has gluten free items on the weekends and it makes for a must visit. I would highly recommend this place.

Busy Father's day but had only 8 minute wait. Excellent service, great food, and we saw some friends there (no surprise, wonderful place). If you haven't tried it, do. Bet you will like it as much as we do. We get the all you can eat family style chicken dinner.

Did you know they have a buffet on the weekends. We did not until just last year. It has all of the same food that the family style dinner has plus desserts, shrimp, fish, and a carving station on Sundays. Once we learned this we stopped going for the traditional meal and go for the buffet. The chicken is good, bit can get a little dry on the buffet line. There is plenty of food on the line and they are constantly refilling the food. The staff is very attentive and are very catering to the family. They know when to engage and when to back off. With all the praise one might be questioning the 4 star rating and this comes from 2 points. The first is they serve Pepsi. Ugh I am not a fan of Pepsi and this meal would be better with Coca-Cola. The second is the glasses they give you for your drink are small and I find myself running out of drink often. This is not the fault of the staff but my prodigious thirst. Definitely go for a visit I have heard (this is a joke) the State of Michigan is going to require a visit prior to obtaining your unrestricted driver's licence.

Service was great. Waitress was wonderful. However the over hyped chicken fell flat. It had no seasoning or flavor. Every one that ate with us experienced food poisoning symptoms. Cool town to walk around in but better places to eat in Birch Run.

I want to start off by saying that I understand the history of this place and I also understand it's importance. What I do not understand is the hype that is based around the food. If you mention Frankenmuth in a conversation, almost immediately Zehnder's will be mentioned right afterward. I have been to Frankenmuth on a myriad of occasions and never had the chance to stop in here. Being in town this last time, I made it a priority to finally try this place, and after I had it left me wondering why it is such a big deal to everyone.
As you probably already know, this place is almost always busy and you are far better off if you make reservations ahead of time. Stepping foot into this place is like taking a step back in time, and you can really see and feel the history that is tied into it. It's very clean, and very old-timey looking (which I love). You should also know that even though you've made a reservation you will most likely end up waiting in line to be seated anyhow which I found ridiculous, but it is what it is.

You will also notice that the customer service here is pretty top-notch, and you will be in the midst of this almost immediately. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and there for whatever you need.

The food here (which is what this place is most famous for, specifically their Fried Chicken Dinner) is served in two ways "Buffet Style", where you go up and grab your own food and it's all you can eat. And "Family Style", where you receive table service. I believe it's a bit cheaper to do the "Family Style" option, but you are limited on the amount of food you get as I believe it is not all you can eat, but I could be wrong as I have only ever had the buffet. In my honest opinion this was the most disappointing part of the whole thing to me the chicken was just okay. It isn't exceptionally good, or really even anything to write home about. I will say that all of the other items, like the sides and whatnot are pretty tasty and do taste homemade and the best part about all of this is that if you choose the buffet, you can eat until your heart and belly are content.

When all was said and done, I felt a bit disappointed by their "world- famous" Chicken dinner. I have had a lot of different types of fried chicken from all over the place and this is not the best by any means. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible just not what I was expecting for all of the hype that is based around it.

To be completely honest, I really feel like all of the hype based around the food here is not only based upon it's history and how long it's been around, but the fact that this is a town based around tourism which definitely helps spread the word about an old school home cooked style meal, that is just okay.

If you have never been to Zehnder's, you are missing out. The home style chicken dinners are amazing. The egg noodles are my favorite part. You never leave hungry. But do save some time and make reservations, if at all possible. First time I took my wife we waited for nearly an hour and a half. Last time we went, we put in reservations for several hours in advance. Once we arrived we checked in (20 minutes early) and we were seated within ten minutes. This should definitely be on your short list if you ever take a trip to Frankenmuth, Mich.

Don't bother making reservations, they serve no purpose. Waited an hour past our reserved time! Walkins made it in before us. Would of walked out if we hadn't prepaid as part of a package.

Disappointed. Offers a Gluten sensitive chicken dinner. Although the rotisserie chicken was tender and flavorful, the meal is served with baby potatoes and grilled brussel sprouts. They have a bakery down stairs and don't offer gluten free bread to have their jam with. Cottage cheese and Cole slaw are still a part of the offering. You can't even have the ice cream dessert. Not worth the money for those with gluten sensitivities. There should be corn or green beans to choose from, mashed potatoes should be available, as well as bread or rolls. The bakery also makes desserts.

What can you say about Zehnder's? It's an institution, and I get nostalgic every time my wife and I visit. Frankenmuth has changed alot over the past two decades, but thankfully Zehnder's (and the sister restaurant, Bavarian Inn), have remained largely the same, with some great improvements to their shops and the cafe in the basement of Zehnder's. The chicken is always delicious, and the sides are an amazing bonus. I could make a meal out of the mashed potatoes alone.

Yep, go. Table service isn't cheap, but if you haven't or know someone who hasn't - go. Budget $25 per head. It is worth it. If you had the experience last year, by all means check out the ala cart in the basement. Best chicken in three states. Best noodles in the country. Period

One of my favorite places to visit! The food is great as always. We had the family style dinner with schnitzel and walleye. Always a wonderful time. Service was great! Our server, Nicole was wonderful. My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. Will be back soon enough!

We had a horrible experience for our anniversary at your restaurant. Don't get me wrong, your food was very good but your service was horrible. Nikki our waiter did not come to our table once we were seated we had to wait and watch other waiters who would pass us towait on other tables, never even looking our way. Your host a male, was very kind and asked if we were celebrating which we were our 30th anniversary. We were then seated in a corner up top the dining room. Our waiter Nikki never even asked if we were celebrating anything when she finally do come to our table 15 minutes after we were seated. She only came to the table once or twice once to bring us our drinks take her order brought us our food never interacted with us whatsoever, but we witnessed all the other servers talking and paying attention to their guests. We had to wait several times for her. I accidentally spilled my Pepsi and had to wait 10 minutes before she came back to the table so I could get another napkin to wipe it up, which she never removed or even attempted to move. She left all our dirty dishes on the table all the way through until she finally came with the check,we had to move them out-of-the-way to sign it. I do have a picture if you want to see it. We travel from Ohio each year for this experience and often bring our grandkids. We won't come back to your restaurant but will go across the street for our meal while in town.

Went for a work party, asked for a box to take the food on my plate home, was told no, but then 15 mins later someone else in the group, sitting at a different table was able to get a whole meal to go.

Nice!
