The wait was not long. Our waitress was awesome, very funny, and constantly checked on us. Food was ok, but I had a drink spilled on my shoe and ankle. There was no apology. Which is why I gave the 4 stars.

Food is delicious, and there is so much of it! Most of everything is made in house and daily. Breads and desserts are made in the bakery downstairs, coleslaw, and other side dishes are also prepared from scratch. Chicken is prepared lightly seasoned to accomadate everyones palate and they keep both the original seasoning and (may I suggest) the honey bbq seasoning on the table. So good!

The chicken is fantastic! Make sure to get reservations though. They are definitely a main attraction and the wait could be very long without one. There are also shops down below where you can get everything from baked goods to jewelry. Their stollen bread is outstanding. You can also buy their chicken seasoning with is also great. They also have a small cafe downstairs as well.

My guest and I went downstairs because we didn't want the all you can eat. We decided to get the family dinner so we could take some home. The server (instead of grabbing from the delicious looking chicken on display) grabbed from a refrigerator these unusual portions and cooked them. We both thought it was strange. He then asked us for our sides and did grab those from the buffet display. Everything from the buffet display was delicious. The chicken was AWFUL. It was tough and not appealing. He said that we had to get mixed or he would charge us more. He ONLY gave us Breasts and they were all WEIRD looking pieces and the worst chicken I have ever eaten. Obviously when you order the family pack you get the junk, because they don't expect you to eat it there. I would never recommend the basement family chicken to anyone. Very disappointing.

This is the fantastic chicken option in frankenmuth. In fact this should be easily the best chicken recipe in Michigan. But that s a stretch. Traditional well battered chicken is served here. Fish options are salmon and yellow perch, which are both exquisite.
The family dinner option for $25 which comes with 6 different appetizers is a good pick. Every dish is must etry. Some are just once. But still Good try.

Ordered 3 side orders only received one of them and was told there would be an extra charge to reorder them after already paying for them once. Total ripoff my bill was over $170 and they stilll wanted more

Love this place. It has become a family tradition to visit here each December for the food. The food is very good, excellent chicken & prime rib. And the other selections are very good as well. I would highly recommend making a reservation though, because the wait can be very extensive.

Given the hype, I expected more.

Given the hype, I expected more.

The beer selection is a bit "expected", and the food is merely decent. Despite this, if you don't have a reservation, you might expect to wait two hours to be seated.

I suspect Zehnder's is supporting itself solely upon holiday tourism, but it needs to step up its game if it wants to remain "best of Frankenmuth".

Great food/great atmosphere! Reservations advised if you don't want a long wait for a table, though. Both of the big Frankenmuth restaurants feature family style chicken dinners but this one offers excellent traditional German entrees and sides also; spaetzle, red cabbage salad and my Jaegerschnitzel was excellent.

Honestly i was disappointed in the meal. I am sad because I was really looking forward to it.

Positives: Service was great, all you eat three course meal, and you can take home anything left on the table.

The problem was that the food was plain in taste. Crack your teeth hard garlic toast. The chicken was moist and tender but bland. The gravy tasted starchy. The bread dressing was mushy with no distinct flavors.

The only thing that stood out was the cabbage salad (cole slaw) - it was fresh, sweet, and delicious

Zehnder's is a famous must-do in Michigan and I'm glad we went once, but we will never go back.

This place is really big! It is all you can eat, which is good for some people, but not worth it for just two of us. We didn't like most of what came with the meal. The chicken was good and the chicken noodle soup was too. We did love the freshly baked bread that came with the meal.

Always great to get your free birthday dinner! The sides and chicken are always fresh and good. If you dine on Saturday, mid-afternoon, the wait is always less than 15 minutes. Also their onion soup au gratin is well worth the extra $3.50 upgrade over chicken noodle!

Usually they have the best chicken around, but this time I think we got an unseasoned batch. It literally tasted like plain flour for the batter. Even after adding salt there was no flavor. The buttered noodles we're the same way and they were heavily coated in soggy bread crumbs. Considering that a meal here costs more than $20 there should be some flavor. I was not impressed and probably will not go back.

Been having Thanksgiving dinner here for probably 30 years. I've noticed over the last 5 or so years the quality of Turkey has decreased. Recently it's been sliced too thin, but this year it was more like pressed Turkey loaf sliced thick. It tastes nothing like a fresh roasted turkey. The sides were very good as usual and service slower than normal which appeared to be the server. We have driven from 4 to 5 hours for years just to go to Zehnders for Thanksgiving, but the poor quality of Turkey sadly brought this tradition to a disappointing end as of this year. No more Zehnders Thanksgivings for us. Already researching a new restaurant for 2020.
