4 star rating based location. I found the vertical a little limiting even among other local resorts. but there were a lot of slopes/ run. On another positive the lodge had more reasonable food prices than many other places.

Our stay at Wisp was short but nice. The room was clean and big but the parking and layout of the hotel was not thought out. I believe they are undergoing some renovations to improve that though.
Wisp Resort host and number of activities for people to do. They have golf, a hill coaster, rope courses and zip lines for summer activities. During the winter it's a full ski resort with two lodges. Wisp Resort also host and runs during the summer a full kayaking white-water rafting Rapids experience that's man-made.
We are lucky to have such a nice ski resort in our area and easily accessible! I am loving the recent upgrades especially with the RFID lift ticket system! So easy and I feel lift lines move more efficiently.
Wisp has the best mountains in the area. However, its prices for lift tickets reflect that, and the long waits at the lift on a Saturday certainly allow you time to rest after each run.
We didn't stay at Wisp, but we rented a house nearby and came to ride the chairlift and the mountain coaster. Both were a lot of fun, and definitely worth the price.
I snowboard and for snowboarders you'll find alot of dead spots (flat areas). If you dont know the trails decently you can guarantee at some point you'll be unstrapping or hopping around to get going again. Thankfully i've been going here long enough to know where these areas are and im able to avoid them with maintaining my speed. I've never stayed at the lodge but i can tell you having a ski/in ski/out is the thing to do here.
Love wisp resort, a great mid-Atlantic East Coast ski resort! It's expensive, but no worse than most places. We love it, and the lake adds wonderful romance and ambiance. The slopes are good, and a couple are great. It's a great resort to learn on, with a great range of slopes and amenities. We love DCL and we love the Wisp! Top tip: but your season passes in June! The prices are amazing but go up QUICK!
Definitely overpriced. $70 for a lift ticket here is highway robbery. The mountain is nice and well maintained, but the price should really only be about 50. Conditions were pretty good.
Bought season passes because its only two hours away which is over an hour closer than Snowshoe. Visited for the first time today with the family. So disappointed.
Most employees barely speak english and have no training on basic things like where ski school meets. How can they be trained they don t speak english??? Walking in ski boots back and forth kind of sucks so not being helped which direction to go so round and round you go...dumb. The ones in the rental shop I literally had to ask them to stop standing around and get the stuff as three of them were just chatting. They were zero help with the kids getting geared up. Whats worse is on four occasions the lift operators literally were zoned out and didn t pay attention to one young kid being knocked over by the lift then stood there and watched him struggle getting back up...one lift going so fast and hitting so hard as people were getting on it almost threw them off....and twice the same girl wasn t even watching to see being asked to slow down the lift for people getting off so caused two pile ups. These people are clueless and dangerous.
Oh it gets better. Upon using the restroom after eating (awful food but thats normal for ski resorts so not a big deal) I saw a guy in cafeteria staff clothing come out of a stall and go right back into his post in the food area...thats right folks...no hand washing. Nothing like a lil Hep A danger in your fries right?! Folks this is actually a really serious health code violation. DO NOT EVER eat in a place where you know hand washing doesn t occur. Its really serious and really dangerous.
So, because we have season passes we will be back. The slopes were fine and good for our beginner children. The ski school instructor that helped my kids was first class. The Monday deal for rentals and lift is the best value in the business. We ll just make sure to bring our own food as to not be exposed to Hep A and God knows what else and we ll make sure we do the rental and lift operators jobs for them.
I recommend this place. i have visit it during new year's eve. the resort is nice. has double diamond slopes. but it is expensive. in comparison to other resorts. i was surprised how expensive it was that day. the next day we got some discount.
Just checked in to this joke of a hotel. For christ's sake send someone to hospitality school and get a clue. Is there a game room for the kids? No, but there used to be. Are you going to light the fire pit tonight? No. Is the pool open? No. Is the bar open? No but you can drive over to the Green Turtle. That's right grab your money and drive away from here to spend it! Even better the bartender shoos us out of the bar then serves drinks to other people. The place is full and the bar and resto closed at 10p. Calling this dungeon a resort is literally false advertising. Abysmal hospitality.
Sleep conditions were very good considering how cold it was and the staff was very helpful and picking the best value in terms of ski tickets and rentals
Not a bad place. Fun outdoor park. People are nice and the rooms are a bargain. The lodge is a little tired and could use the carpet replaced. Nice indoor pool.
Location was good, but the sound/tech associated with our corporate event was not what was expected. The mics cut in and out (if they worked at all), and the sound tech wasn't that helpful. Other than that, the food was great and the event was enjoyable.
The ski area would get a 5 star (for the Mid Atlantic, this is as good as it gets) and the hotel and lodge get a 3 star rating. Very average accommodations. Not great, not terrible.
I just came to the resort to ski for the day. It was a Monday, so I got a discounted lift ticket and a clinic tailored to my skill level, which was awesome! So far the resort has been great to me
I loved the location!! McHenry is beautiful scenery. I also loved that they were pet friendly. Cons: I paid $500 for two nights (including a pet deposit for my 3 pound dog). I was disappointed in the continental breakfast. They should really incorporate better food and a nicer work force. We asked for napkins and silverware and the guy stated you re gonna need to give me a minute . I paid luxury price for two star service. The rooms were old but clean. Everything worked. The desk staff and housekeepers were very kind. I would probably find a different place to stay moving forward just due to price and amenities. My husband and I went to the restaurant to get a to go order (because we can t leave the dog in the room (even in a cage) by herself. It took over 40 minutes as I sat outside the restaurant with a dog to get an order of fries and a cheese quesadilla. It was mediocre at best!! For the cost I m sure you could find a nicer place to stay...
Wisp has a ton of things to do, from the mountain coaster, to ropes courses, and skiing or white water rapids. The parking is only so-so, but the ski slopes are well taken care of, and the food options are better than many ski resorts.
They ran out of rental equipment, the lift lines were ridiculously long, and the runs were icy and dangerous. Just horrible, especially for a 3hr drive each way.
Good for beginner skiers and for tubing. Note that tubing is on the extreme left of the resort where you park and beginners lessons are situated on the extreme right after the hotel. It takes a while to find both these places.
I was disappointed to see the only half the mountain was open this time of the year, and continue to be disappointed at the rising costs of rental and lift tickets. With that in mind however, I always have a fun time at Wisp and the staff is excellent.
Full featured resort. Good skiing in winter and lots of sports activities in summer. I would recommend for anyone wanting a good time out of the cities. Food was great and servers friendly. I didn't stay overnight but would not mind doing so if the need arises.
Rental equipment service is extremely slow and cramped in a very small and warm space, it took more than one hour to get the equipment, I arrived there before 10am and there were basically no poles except something that looked like a mismatched dumpster of disposed poles in the bottom of the cabinet, it was ridiculous the image of several persons (including me) trying to find a pair of poles without luck. Lifts were attended by 2-3 persons at most that looked tired and overworked. It seems to me that despite being more expensive for the holiday apparently they just want to keep the extra money not investing a dime in more staffing...
All in all the resort deserve one star but the staffing doing their best despite everything and the tracks decent condition increased it to two stars.
This was my first ski trip, and staying at this resort helped make that trip one of the best vacations I've ever had. The rooms, shops, and restaurants were all great, and of course skiing itself was a blast. Was fun to watch the races down the slopes from my room in the mornings. Everyone was friendly and helpful and made my stay stress-free and successful. Can't wait to go back.
