House was neat to visit, but the wine tasting was unacceptable. I went for my birthday, and paid $15 to taste wines from two wineries. The other places cancelled but the ticket was full price. It wasn't worth it. Disappointing birthday.

Lower score due to easy for someone in a wheelchair. My daughter requires one and they did have a ramp but not a bottom to help with the food opening. Additionally, the museum didn't have any access, so unless you had a chair that someone could lift you were not getting in. Another family while I was there wanted to veiw but the team could provide a method to allow them access.

When in Corolla do see this impressive and unique home. It is in the same Park as The Currituck Beach Lighthouse. A great deal of history is there. This place almost went away. The efforts of some concerned residents brought it back to what it is today.. Take the tour, it is very interesting.. There are also many events here throughout the year .

A fantastic spot to take family pictures.

A fantastic spot to take family pictures.

It's also a neat park to walk around with families. We take our young kids here to feed birds and run around. The kiddos also love to watch locals catch crabs in the sallow water.

Didn't come for the club so much. Went for a couple of hours to catch some crabs at the bridge. It's part of our annual routine.... Kids love it for a break from the beach on a so-so weather day.

Would say beautiful if we could see it. Drove here two hours on Sunday to find it closed. Both online and the office phone said open. Poor marketing.... Lighthouse very nice and so was landscape. Wish we could see the inside. :( Disappointed.

Our family visited the Whalehead Club on 06/11/2016. The house was absolutely breathtaking, Frank greeted us with open arms and was very friendly.... However we had the unfortunate run in with Sarah, the "host."

After paying for the self guided tour, Sarah showed us where to start first. As we were walking out the door towards the first exhibit, someone in our group had pointed to the iphones they had attached to speakers and said "Wow, how cool." Sarah snapped back and said with a very abrasive offensive tone, "DONT TALK."

One of our family members has dark attributes (dark skin, black hair), and Sarah made sure after telling this family member not to talk, to keep tabs on where she was, even got upset that she did not want to wait on other people to join the group. She singled this family member out and was very abrasive.

The kids had a scavenger hunt they were given by Frank (who was really a sweet gentleman). An older member of our family had said wow cool kids, you found all of the items on the scavenger hunt, and mentioned that it looked like fun and she should of done one too. When Sarah heard her, she snapped at her and said THEY ARE ONLY FOR KIDS and said give me all the pencils back now, there should be three, and she made sure she counted ALL the pencils upon gathering them....

Maybe we just rubbed her the wrong way? I'm not sure why she felt so offended by us. We weren't obnoxious, the children respond with yes ma'am, and say please and thank you. Nobody was loud, touching things or yelling...

My fiance and I heard they did weddings, and thought it would be a good place to check out. After that experience, we will not be back...

The area is beautiful and well worth a stroll, especially at sunset.

If you come for the wine tastings, though, be aware: your ticket gets you two vineyards and a single brewery. They ll rush you through and won t be able to answer questions about the wine. Not at all the experience I expect for the price.

What a spectacular place to see! I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the home and grounds so much, I went back for the hard-hat tour. The serenity of the home itself, as well as the nature around, made my trip! I would recommend taking a tour if you are staying in OBX.

I first visited the Whalehead Club in 1997 or so when it was open to the public but not yet restored, and it was enchanting even then. It was great to see it in its full glory. The audio tour was really interesting and engaging (I get bored with that sort of thing, typically), and included nice historical tidbits and sound effects. My boyfriend and I were so glad we took the time to see this beautiful place!

Wonderful place to visit, the architecture is beautiful. One of Corolla's best places to visit it is surrounded by a lovely park and in walking distance from the light house. The nature museum and other points of interest surround the landmark.

The self guided tour is all audio. I prefer docent led tours. However the cost isn't steep and the house is very beautiful. No pictures is such a lame rule. Also, you have to wait a bit to start. The way the tour walks you through the house is odd, but we enjoyed it. Especially the pink kitchen!

What a lovely and interesting place! The docent we were with was enthusiastic and really quite knowledgeable about the local history and shared loads of "secrets" pertaining to the area. She had personal ties to many of the stories and had us wanting to come back for more. Be sure to stop in the Currituck wildlife building. That name is DEFINITELY wrong, so don't Google it. Sorry. Wonderful place despite my spacing out on the name. Go visit!!!

Wine tasting fail. Went to the Wednesday wine tasting 'festival' needless to say the wine was good BUT stood out in the heat on a line for maybe 45 minutes waiting for the taste... Food truck food was mediocre, and was the only choice.. more for locals and not for anyone that has been to a nice wine tasting.. too hot, too long, not worth the $20.

We have been on the grounds of the Whalehead Beach Club several times, but we finally toured the house. As expected, the details of the craftsmanship and furnishings were impressive and charming.

About Whalehead Club

Whalehead Club: A Historic Landmark in the Currituck Outer Banks

If you're looking for a unique vacation experience, look no further than the Currituck Outer Banks. This beautiful area of North Carolina is home to wild horses, unspoiled beaches, and a rich history that's just waiting to be explored. And at the heart of it all is the Whalehead Club.

The Whalehead Club is a historic landmark that dates back to the 1920s. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for wealthy industrialists who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some time in nature. Today, it's open to visitors who want to learn more about this fascinating piece of history.

One of the things that makes the Whalehead Club so special is its location. It sits on 39 acres of land along the Currituck Sound, offering stunning views of both water and wildlife. Visitors can take a stroll through the gardens or relax on one of several porches while taking in all that nature has to offer.

But there's more to do at Whalehead than just admire its natural beauty. The club also offers guided tours that take visitors through its many rooms and tell stories about its past inhabitants. You'll learn about how it was used during Prohibition (it was rumored to be a speakeasy), as well as how it survived hurricanes and other natural disasters over the years.

In addition to tours, there are also plenty of events held at Whalehead throughout the year. These range from concerts and festivals to educational programs for kids and adults alike. No matter what your interests are, you're sure to find something fun happening here.

Of course, no visit would be complete without checking out some of Currituck's other attractions as well. The area is known for its wild horses (which roam freely on nearby beaches), as well as its family-friendly beaches that are perfect for swimming or sunbathing.

And if you're looking for even more adventure, there are plenty of outdoor activities available too – from kayaking and paddleboarding on Currituck Sound to hiking through nearby state parks like Jockey's Ridge or Nags Head Woods.

So whether you're interested in history or just want an unforgettable vacation experience, make sure you add Whalehead Club (and all that Currituck has to offer) onto your travel itinerary today!
