Beautifully restored, this is a must see! Great piece of local history. Small fee to enter ($7 per person I think). If you are into the history of the area, this should be included in your day. A self guided tour takes about 25 minutes or so.

Excellent self tour with audio. There are stairs some are steep so to take this inexpensive tour you must be mobile enough.
Covid19 precautions were enforced. Need a mask
Hand sanitizers were provided.
Beautiful and educational. About 45 min self tour.

Charming home with many beautiful art nouveau design elements throughout the house. While certainly not on par with any of the mansions in Newport, it was quite an extravagant hunting cottage for its day. Fantastic views! The staff were very friendly and knew the house well. My kids had fun with a scavenger hunt at the end of which they were each awarded a small prize. It was a very nice, relaxing way to spend an hour.

The guided audio tour is very nice and complete. The house is beautiful and the people working there are very friendly. They were beginning to decorate for Christmas the day we were there and I bet it will be a sight to see when they are finished.

Thus place is absolutely beautifil. There's history here that I was unfamiliar of where the family purchased the island decades before there was a main road and boats came to the island.

Watching the sunset there was astonishing.
This club and park is close to the light house. There is a really neat bridge that you can cross and the trees in the park are phenomenal. They kind of look like olive trees in the way they grew, but they are oak trees is what I was told.

It's funny because I've never seen oak trees grow like that, but some say it was because of hurricanes, but I have no way to prove or disprove that.

I don't know how many times we passed up visiting Whalehead when we we're in Corolla/OBX. It was a very interesting tour, a good way to spend a couple hours touring the building and the surrounding estate/park.

The staff running the tour have taken good precautions with Covid.

The mansion is a spectacular sight. The size is deceiving from the exterior. Wish we could have booked the ghost tour. The surrounding park is beautiful! Perfect for fishing, boating, kayaking, or kite flying.

What a spectacular place to see! I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the home and grounds so much, I went back for the hard-hat tour. The serenity of the home itself, as well as the nature around, made my trip! I would recommend taking a tour if you are staying in OBX.

This is an amazingly restored home. It went above expectations. The only complaint is that the self guided tour can be a little long if you listen to every station. They need a long version and an abbreviated version. A little additional tip if you are looking for a place to take family photos--the grounds on the bank of the sound make a great spot for sunset photos. It is worth the visit!

We did not explore the inside but this is a great place to snap some family photos at sunset! You can also explore the grounds, visit the lighthouse, and even crab. Definitely check it out when in Corolla.

Excellent tour! The renovation of the Whalehead Club was very thorough and detailed. Every room had beautiful furnishings and artifacts in them. There is no tour guide but an audio each room provides the explanation. Allow 45 minutes to an hour. No photographs allowed.

Beautiful site, gorgeous view, and wonderfully maintained building. Staff is highly knowledgeable and are great story tellers. We took the ghost tour, but wish we'd had time to go back during the day to tour the house properly. So glad to know this place is protected.

About Whalehead Club

Whalehead Club: A Historic Landmark in the Currituck Outer Banks

If you're looking for a unique vacation experience, look no further than the Currituck Outer Banks. This beautiful area of North Carolina is home to wild horses, unspoiled beaches, and a rich history that's just waiting to be explored. And at the heart of it all is the Whalehead Club.

The Whalehead Club is a historic landmark that dates back to the 1920s. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for wealthy industrialists who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some time in nature. Today, it's open to visitors who want to learn more about this fascinating piece of history.

One of the things that makes the Whalehead Club so special is its location. It sits on 39 acres of land along the Currituck Sound, offering stunning views of both water and wildlife. Visitors can take a stroll through the gardens or relax on one of several porches while taking in all that nature has to offer.

But there's more to do at Whalehead than just admire its natural beauty. The club also offers guided tours that take visitors through its many rooms and tell stories about its past inhabitants. You'll learn about how it was used during Prohibition (it was rumored to be a speakeasy), as well as how it survived hurricanes and other natural disasters over the years.

In addition to tours, there are also plenty of events held at Whalehead throughout the year. These range from concerts and festivals to educational programs for kids and adults alike. No matter what your interests are, you're sure to find something fun happening here.

Of course, no visit would be complete without checking out some of Currituck's other attractions as well. The area is known for its wild horses (which roam freely on nearby beaches), as well as its family-friendly beaches that are perfect for swimming or sunbathing.

And if you're looking for even more adventure, there are plenty of outdoor activities available too – from kayaking and paddleboarding on Currituck Sound to hiking through nearby state parks like Jockey's Ridge or Nags Head Woods.

So whether you're interested in history or just want an unforgettable vacation experience, make sure you add Whalehead Club (and all that Currituck has to offer) onto your travel itinerary today!
