I have been in Summa Western Reserve Hospital 8-10 times in the last 15 years. (pulmonary embolism, heart attack, double pneumonia, gall bladder removal, sinus surgery, collapsed lungs, ventilator for 6 days) This is an A+++ Medical Facility from ER to the floor. The entire staff was excellent- Doctors, Nurses, respiratory, radiology, dietary etc. Contrary to what some reviewers said, Accounting / Billing was always very professional and reasonable with me. Was I put "on hold" sometimes when I called - yes - just like it happens at most other businesses.

The staff is just exceptionally nice. Everyone from housekeepers to doctors say hi to you when you past them in the hallway. Kind of shocked me actually. I'm not used to this level of friendliness from a hospital.

WESTERN RESERVE. There were NO mistakes, NO confus...

WESTERN RESERVE. There were NO mistakes, NO confusion and everybody was on the same page always. All nurses were old school RN's. They knew what they were doing at all times They answered the call light before he could get it back out of his hand. They asked for his insurance card once. They knew what medications he was on and didn't have to keep asking. They hit the vein on the FIRST try inserting the IV.
The receptionist at the surgery desk updated us on where he was and what was going on twice. She even took his take home meds to the pharmacy and had them filled for us. Every staff member in the place asked how things were going and if there was anything they could do for us. Even the Valet dude and the cleaning staff. I have never seen such a caring place. The place is very clean . As Mom and I walked around during surgery looking for mistakes, screw ups, confusion and lack of common sense idiots there were NONE to be found here at WESTERN RESERVE AS IT SHOULD BE IN EVERY MEDICAL FACILITY !!! And by the way they are not affiliated with Summa anymore, Thank God !!!

I was there last night. The nursing staff are competent and sweet as anything as well as radiology. They are the only ones I m willing to give ten stars to. The doctors were never on the same page when it came to what was wrong with me until this morning when I just left. It got scary. They kept changing their stories on whether I had diabetes or not. They gave me insulin when they weren't sure I had it. My sugar was high when I checked in but within a few hours went down on its own then when they gave me insulin it went way up over 100 points again.
Btw infections raise your blood sugar levels and that was never considered. Also never asked about my diet to consider a1c level may be affected because of that.

They couldn't even agree to give me water or food. I had to threaten to leave in order to get both. They knew I didn't need surgery but still put me on a restricted diet.

I have severe social aniexty and informed them of this. What do they do? Have numerous medical professionals in the room with me talking about what they wanted to do while im medicated on pain meds. I freak the hell out. How do you do that to someone?

The final straw was the ent. The night before and that morning she wanted to cut into my neck without seeing blood work etc or even see if antibiotics actually worked for me. I'm thirty four and this girl looked to be about ten years younger and was just knife happy. The issue that I had with her was she pretty much told me she'd been on call for 48 hours. Yeah I did the math by the conversation we had. That scared the hell out of me. You're cutting into my neck on no sleep Oh hell no your not.

On 7-30-20 I arrived for a COVID swab test At 1015 am. Supposed to take 20 seconds.Apparently had to ask doc to send order again as they could not find the initial order. Doc resent to same number and they found it.
It took over 2 hours. I think the girl took her lunch break while I waited in the car.

Following up with my doc to get a feel for the response time they say these are 10 days using this facility. I hope that s wrong. These tests are completely worthless if they take longer than one day.

I have since found that Western reserve will no longer do outpatient Covid testing because they appear to be a distraction for them. How inconvenient! I thought with the function of a hospital is to serve the community and its health requirements

This Place was a wreck when it was green cross hospital. Nothing has changed

Posting this with a one star review is way overrated

There doesn't seem to be any communication between departments. The place where we were supposed to be seen told us to sign in on the tablet, then ignored us for 15 minutes. When I asked how much longer it would be, the lady sent us over to a different department to register. No one explained to us what was going on, or why my boyfriend wasn't being seen even though we arrived twenty minutes early. He was on some people's records and not other's. I understand that mistakes are made, but we would have appreciated communication. The lady at the front desk in the cardiovascular department was probably the worst of the lot. At least the lady she passed us off to at radiology was nice.

I went to the hospital at 3am with severe abdominal pain. 1st two people I dealt with could careless about how much pain I was in. Then I get to room and met the nurse, who was little bit better. The doctor was worst. Came in started asking some questions, than called out of the room. When he came back didn't finish asking the questions. Order a whole bunch of test. Came in to give results said I couldn't find anything wrong, you can be released. Great what about my pain????? does it even still hurt?? Yes!!! Wrote a scrip for pain said to call my family doctor.....

Waited over an hour to get a poison ivy shot. Would not tell me amount it would cost. It took 3-4 people coming in to figure out that I needed the shot that I told them I needed. Total lack of knowledge! Then to add insult to injury they charged over $700 for a steroid shot that would have only cost $100 at a Dr. Office and insurance would not even pay the full amount because it was so ridicules! SCAM WHEN I WENT THERE IT WAS AN URGENT CARE AND NOT A REAL HOSPITAL AND THERE IS NOTHING URGENT ABOUT IT!!!

I am a first time mother, and I was experiencing severe cramping and was terrified I maybe having a misscarriage. I was in TEARS because of the pain. So I went to this hospital. While I will say the nurses were nice, I did not like the woman who did my ultrasound or my doctor. First off they acted like I was there to see the baby on an ultrasound since my first one is scheduled march 15th. So they kicked my babys father out of the room, turned the monitor away and explained why I couldn't look, and was generally nasty with me. I didn't care to look, I was there for my childs safety. Then the doctor came in after being in the room only one time before and told me the baby is fine. When I asked about the cramping he said, "Thats just being pregnant" with the rudest voice ever. I was disgusted! Then when I asked for a doctors note, he proceeded to roll his eyes and say yes. To say the least, I would NEVER go back there!

This place has NO right to be called a hospital, I don't care if you are having a heart attack, you probably shouldn't go here because they charge extremely high prices (even with Summa insurance) in the tune of about $$$$5,000 dollars out of pocket for a 4 hour maximum visit involving viruses/bacteria in my stomach (not even overnight). They never disclosed their prices and they use extremely shady business practices that should be illegal if they aren't already, I went to the clinic inside (no ambulance), I checked in at 8 pm.

You need to hire more people for your billing financial office. I can't imagine that anyone wants to sit on hold for over 30 minutes. A suggestion either hire more people for that department or have a call back service. You get a voice mail and then return the call.

Service is absolutely the worst.

The worst hospital I've ever been to, from the moment I met the very rude, unprofessional nurse, I felt unsafe and very uncomfortable. My problems were nothing but an annoyance to them. Anything you discuss with the nurse will be talked and laughed about to others on the floor, they have no sense of confidentiality or respect. If you have any kind of psychological history, or if you are in an emotional state that needs assistance don't go here, they will treat you like you're a criminal, lacking any kind of respect for you as a person. Write down all symptoms you have because they will not believe anything after the initial description of your concerns. They will disregard any symptoms, and tack on the simplest diagnosis, just to get you out of there faster. Do not go here if you want to be respected as a human being.

Very impressed with service, system and staff. Only complaint is the billing department. They offer the ability to leave a message, yet dont ever call back. The holding time on phone is repeated and long only to divert you back to leaving a message ( first comment). My inquiry was trivial, yet I had to write a letter to resolve.

Good Evening

Good Evening
We want to say Thank-you so much to the staff. My father Robert has had to spend much time at the emergency room and over night stay. My father could be very testy at times but they have taken very great care of him. He doesn't like hospitals but he likes yours and the staff. Thank-you for him now going when needed because he feels very comfortable and trusts you.

Went in for an emergency, and got in very quickly. There was a slight delay on reading my CT scan, but the nurse made sure to let us know this was because they had a rush of CTs. The nurse and receptionist were very nice and helpful, and the receptionist, seeing I was in pain, did not push me to pay the copay right that minute (they could bill me later). The doctor took awhile to get there, which is a given in any ER, but was very nice. He did mis-diagnose me, as I found out later, and I probably didn't need the CT scan. He did make sure to tell me I needed to check in with my general practitioner, since I'm sure he was aware that he didn't really know what was going on either (I had a sinus plugged - I'm sure he's use to seeing heart attacks and such). I would go back there again for an emergency.

When I first went to western reserve a few months ...

When I first went to western reserve a few months ago, EMS had come to my work because I was struggling to breathe (lasted about two hours before I got to western reserve). Western Reserve told me that it was a panic attack and they couldn t do anything for me and that I needed to just calm down. I went home, still not being able to breathe. The next day I went to my regular doctor (still not able to breathe) and found out I have asthma so now I have a maintenance inhaler and a rescue inhaler. WR sent me home without doing absolutely anything to help my breathing even though I told them it was not a panic attack and something is wrong. They did nothing for me.
Last night, I vacuumed up cat litter and I m allergic to cats. I had an asthma attack and my inhaler wasn t helping so after two hours I went to Western Reserve. I waited an hour and a half in an exam room, barely being able to breathe, until anyone even came in to see me. After sitting for that long, it had started to feel a little better but I was still struggling to breathe and I had chest pain. When the doctor did come in, she listened to my lungs and said she didn t hear anything wrong with my breathing and she didn t think it was an asthma attack because I wasn t wheezing so she wanted to do an EKG and x-ray. I told her I have never had wheezing as a side affect of my asthma and my entire body was shaking while she was listening to my breathing. It was like my lungs were stuttering and I was VISIBLY not able to breathe well. I told her I had gone through this before and all they did was give me a nebulizer (an inhaler x10) and I was fine. She acted like I was making it all up but agreed to give me the breathing treatment. I told her I didn t want any of the other tests; I m not going to go through a bunch of expensive, time consuming tests when I already know what s wrong. So I waited half an hour for the respiratory therapist and was finally treated. I was there for 3 hours and it should have taken 20 minutes at most to treat me. The doctor obviously had no idea what she was talking about regarding asthma. Also there was medical trash on the floor around my bed, the floor was just overal unclean, and an earring was sitting on the counter. I will never go back to WR again.
The only positive thing was the nurses. They were very kind and didn t act like I was making up having asthma.

I am shocked at all the low ratings and wonder if ...

I am shocked at all the low ratings and wonder if those reviewers have ever had the fortune of going to Barberton Citizen s or Akron General. Every single stay family members and I have had at those two hospitals has resulted in things like infections, bed sores, TEN HOUR WAITS, super rude nurses that could care less.

I was taken aback by Western Reserve. I had never heard of it (we are down in Green, close to Stark County) prior to a Cleveland Clinic/Akron General physician recommending a surgeon at this hospital. Every single person -from first contact in front of the main doors, to office personnel, lab staff, nurses - everyone was very helpful and upbeat.

It seems to me that they are very particular about who they hire, as compared to the other local hospitals that seem to hire the rudest people available (man, so many awful nurses at the other hospitals that I wonder why they chose dealing with people/patients in the first place.). Someone mentioned to me that this hospital is privately owned by a group of physicians. I have not looked that up/verified that, but it certainly would make sense as to why service is better. Had a three month period of extended stays at another local hospital and what nasty roommates I encountered that would yell at doctors and nurses (boy, the f-word was dropped continually by some )...was told these were patients on government aid and it was typical behavior. So a family member suggested that possibly Western Reserve is not forced to take on these patients, making the whole experience better for everyone.

Edit to add: Yes! As another reviewer mentioned, the place is very clean. Other area hospitals- not so much - gross dirt all over.

Awesome smaller hospital. Free valet parking if the need it. Nice helpers at the front desk.
The food in the cafeteria was excellent, hot and many choices. We enjoyed the nurses, aides housekeeping staff, and doctors. This week (January 10th) it seemed like all the rooms had 2 people and with a loved one visiting the space was extremely limited. Near the front door you
will find a simple coffee bar and a room with free computer and wi fi. I give this hospital a 4 star. Location is one block from State Rd in Cuyahoga Falls.

Horrible billing dept. i have requested an itemized statement to reflect where the 27 minutes of waiting in their waiting room can be verified at a level 3 vs a level 1 billing. as my son spent more time in waiting area versus being seen by a student dr. They have constantly refused several written requests to supply an itemized billing to show me where they can charge 1200.00 for a 4.5 min visit. I have now filed a complaint with the State of ohio insurance fraud dept at the hospitals neglect to supply an itemized billling to legitimize their costs. and they have turned and sent this to a collections agency bcause they dont want to deal. next step i will take them to court for fraud..AWFUL AWFUL PLACE. Took my son to different er less then 2 months later for a dislocated finger and it cost me less then the 4min concussion protocol visit. tells you volumes. they suck

If I could rate this hospital a 10 out of 5, I would. The compassion, care, communication and knowledge is embedded in their culture. I must admit that when this hospital was the hospital my father chose, I was not convinced it was a good choice. With the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital nearby, I almost overrode his decision to go to Western Reserve Hospital. But now, realizing their dedication to caring for people, I would have been the one making the bad choice. Thank you Dr Voo, Brittany, Chrissy, Alyssa, Ashley, Jacquelyn, Nick, Dr. Smiley, Mimi and everyone who helped save his life (there are many more to list, but with this past week being such a whirlwind, I can t remember everyone). All of you and Western Reserve Hospital saved my father s life! Thank you again.

I arrived around midnight on 3-2-20 with severe neck and arm pain. Not sure if it was cardiovascular, but worried that might be the issue. The triage staff, receptionist and nurse were all amazing, helpful and caring. They all deserve a 5. The ER doctor, Richard Anderson was the worst doctor I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. He was arrogant and down right rude. He insulted my profession and indicated those in my profession could be drug abusers. I m a police officer with 30 plus years on the job. He implied that I was there to get opioids??? Not sure why, but it was pretty obvious the way he told me he only gives those types of drugs to people with serious injuries, like broken bones. I never asked for drugs, wasn t thinking about it at all, I thought maybe I was having a heart attack. He never once told me this was not cardiovascular. The nurse finally told me it was not a heart issue after the doctor left.

If you don t like people and cannot act with a hint of empathy, get a new job. Completely ridiculous, avoid doctor Anderson if you can!

My husband had outpatient surgery here. We were both very pleased with the entire experience from start to finish. I really like the facility itself. It is nice, clean, easy to navigate. It's really a much more comfortable environment than most of the other medical centers I have been to (they are typically so cold and sterile and have an institutional feel more than anything) The waiting areas are comfortable with TVs, magazines, nearby restroom, free coffee, and even a phone charging/cleaning station. The 5 star review is driven by the fact that every staff member we have encountered has been friendly, kind, welcoming and helpful. From those who greet us at the door, the surgery front desk associates, and the nurses. Dr Gema was wonderful. I really appreciate how well I was kept informed during my husbands' surgery. this was a 40 minute drive for us, but my husband and I both agree it's worth it and we prefer this hospital over our local options.

Avoid this ER at ALL costs. They won't do anything for your pain even if you're laying in the bed crying for help. They'll simply send you home limping and crying out in pain with a quite elevated blood pressure and ignored symptoms. They even will ignore other patients and families telling them to help said patients in pain. Don't come here. Would give a 0 if I could. The best thing about this place was the triage nurse, she was very kind.

I do not want to discourage anyone going here if help is needed, the work that is done if great. My fiance and I were in the emergency room on 1/4/20 around 9pm. My fiance suffered dog bites to here hands and was rushed there. Including the dr on staff around 5 different people had helped us during the visit. The dr was fine , the male nurse was amazing and the female nurse was amazing that had to clean up her hands up, so thank you to those 3 professionals. Now the women that took my fiance back for an x-ray and brought her back was telling her how they will now have to quarantine your dog and then they will chop its head off to study it. Now does this seem a little bad timing for this content? We are already shaken up over the bite and now she has repeated at least 4 or 5 times how they will chop your dogs head off to study it, maybe I am overreacting but probably not the most professional thing to say. Next up is there was a male and female nurse on staff when you check in and get your paperwork and vitals, first small room you go Into before they take you back, the male nurse which was bald stopped my fiance on her way out and asked, Hey we all have been talking and betting on what kind of dog bit you, my fiance responded with type of dog and he said o I wouldn't of figured that I thought it was a Chihuahua and laughed, now does that seem very professional to make fun of someone's situation and severity of injury? The bite was no little scratch, there were holes in both hands and thought of hand being broken. I want to point this out and I hope someone reads this and talks to the staff about now being idiots and maybe think about talking before say the dumbest thing you can.

Did not go to the main hospital but the urgent care in Stow, OH. It has been one year since I went for a simple strep throat evaluation and I am still receiving bills and they are claiming that they do not have my insurance informationHave contacted them multiple times since then and given my insurance information when I first went to the clinic and multiple times since then. OK clinic care but horribly incompetent billing department. Will not use Summa again unless it is an absolute emergency and they are closest when I need ththem (I have an insurance outside their network)

I came to this hospital for physical therapy in March. Before I even touched the paperwork, I asked what my copay will be per session. They refused to give me a straight answer, but assured me it would not be over $50 a session.

I went to three sessions and got a bill for $320!!!!! I called and no one could give me a straight answer on if that was the final bill or not because they were still billing my secondary insurance. When I said I needed to pause my services, they had the nerve to call and check in on when I will be returning, even though I already said I can t come back until the bill is figured out.

Fast forward to June and I STILL haven t heard about my bill. I also have lost my job (and insurance). Due to their negligence, I now get to live in pain and will not be receiving anymore treatment. If they handled billing properly or were honest with me in March, I could have been done with physical therapy or possibly have gone to a cheaper facility.

Never again will I go here and I will make sure to share this story.

I come to this hospital a lot because of the fact that my doctor is all the way in Parma. I have been here since 11:30pm and it is now 1:00am. I told them I have been having symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy and they just ignored that fact. I came in because I have been having bad shoulder and chest pain on the right side to the point I was in tears. They kept me here until 1:30am and the rude ass doctor came in and basically told me to go home that I was fine. Worst hospital I ve been to seriously !

Went there for a surgery and had a pretty smooth time. Didn't know where to go so when I walked in I just told the nurse at the front desk and got walked back to the area I needed to by some helpers. People there are very friendly and the doctors/anesthesiologists are very professional. Highly recommend checking out this place!

I was the only African American in the waiting room. They cleared the entire waiting room TWICE (it was only 4 people already waiting upon me arriving) before I could even get a freaking name band. I was livid. I asked how much longer of a wait as I was the only one in the waiting room now. The receptionist told me 2 minutes.... I waited another 20 minutes before anyone even came and got me. I was so over this hospital lack of care or know how that I ripped my bands off my wrist and left. I will never return to this hospital ever again. I will also inform others to do the same as this hospital is worse than Akron General Cleveland Clinic and Akron Summa.
