A very interesting modern museum about Van Gogh and his life. I now know who all his family and friends were & how he died.....
I felt all Van Goghed out by the end!
Book online beforehand and go early in the day to avoid the crowds.
You can not take photos inside the museum as they like you to buy them from the shop afterwards. So here's a picture of the many Van Gogh themed items you can buy.

The quality of work in this musuem is obviously phenomenal. Good setup that allows flow. Be prepared to deal with crowds. I strongly recommend going in an off hour ( if there is one). Purchase tickets online to avoid waiting in the queue for 30 to 45 minutes. A must see in Amsterdam.

Beautiful buildings with a wealth of originals, shop, bar, toilets and stunning views across the adjacent park. There was a lot to absorb including his Japanese pieces and works by other artists to show his inspirations. I personally found that I appreciated these other artists a bit more than the titular artist's work, which is the reason for my 4/5 rating.

A testament to the genius and psychosis of being a great artist. The multi media tour is a vital part of the museum. Hearing the words penned by Van Gogh himself have great insight to his thoughts as the paintings were created. My favorite painting, and allegedly Van Gogh's favorite, is "The Potato Eaters".

This place is actually amazing. You walk in and you are just spoilt but the rich culture of art on offer. I ve been twice! There are many floors and I would suggest the audio as it really helps you explore. They also take a picture of you for free with the museum illustration around the frame of it, which is always a nice surprise.

The museum is beautiful and well managed, tidy and clean. By the way the price is way too high, and the experience is not worth the cost of the ticket (18 adult). The gallery only contains some of his paintings and not the most famous ones (such as the starring night). Covid 19 rules are not fully respected (none wears masks inside). In conclusion the store only sells low-value and bad looking items at high prices.

Modern musuem with a in depth history of Van Gogh. The souvenir shops were also pretty good as I got a magnet, shot glasses, and a potato eater chip bag for 13. Overall would recommend going early to avoid mass crowds

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE experience, will never ever go there again.
Had a very unpleasant experience with staff. Paid for I am Amsterdam card 93 in wich Van Gogh museum is included without paying extra. But!!!
Van Gogh museum staff refused to let me in saying that first available time slot is in july.
Ridiculous, they're behaving like they're only museum in the world no respect for client.
They told me to pay 60 extra!!!
Of course I refused.

This museum was a magical experience. After the tour, it became quite clear to me why van gogh is such a celebrated artist. Unlike Rijks which is huge and so much more diverse, this museum has a much shorter and interesting story to tell. Definitely one of the most well-planned museums I've seen.

The Van Gogh Museum is a dream for art lovers! I was in a stupor of admiration and awe while walking through the exhibits!
I now understand the family history so much better as well.
I wish that the lighting had been better. Some paintings and drawings were washed out by the lighting above and some were a little too unlit to see well.
Overall !

One of the best museums I have ever been too, you don't just get to see the art work of Van Gough, you also get to learn about the life of this brilliant artist including his relationship with his family members, fellow artists as well as those whom he inspired or who were inspired by him, I must see museum!

Excellent museum detailing van Goghs life and his progress with his art. There are also several paintings with his influences and contemporaries and friends on display. Lots of interesting information on the walls and on small info panels beside the paintings. Did not feel like I missed much without an audio guide.

That man was a tortured soul. He was also a prolific artist having painted almost two paintings a day. You wouldn't think his art would be as valuable as it is since he cranked them out like cord wood. And not all of it was, certainly not while he was alive (which just goes to show that marketing is vitally important).

So you are just going to have to buy tickets on line and then go see for yourself. It is definitely worth the trip. It is both specific enough and short enough (3 hours or so to see their collection and enjoy a short talk), to give a person a look into his life.

I'd like to have had more info on his brother, Theo. Theo was the supporter both emotionally and financially. Still, that didn't keep Vincent from hurting himself. Proof positive that there is only so much you can do.

Anyway, buy your tickets on line several days in advance or you won't get in. Give yourself 40 minutes from Central Station so you can get lost twice and still make your check in time. I didn't get lost but the tram broke down half way and...

You can't say you've visited Amsterdam if you haven't been at the Van Gogh Museum. The tour lasts 2 hours ca, but it's definitely worth it. Make sure you book your tickets online, it's the only way of getting them.

Of course a great collection of art! Skip the coat check if you can (you can not take a backpack or umbrella into the gallery space, so you will have to check these items if you bring them). We waited in line 25 minutes to check our backpack and the same amount again to pick it up. The cafe is pleasant and has a nice selection.

Getting tickets is the first challenge. If you buy at the ticket machine, you sign up for a special time when your ticket will work, in our case it was 30 minutes later. So we had to wait in front of the museum: we recommend to buy the tickets online in advance. If you re under 18, you get a free ticket, adults are 19. It was really full so it s hard to look at the art. Most of it is by other artists, actual VanGogh is really rare. The letter section to his brother is fascinating. I was a little disappointed.

Wandering round questioning, dreaming doe-eyed, mouth open and then shut; grateful I can see colours. You left these gifts, I'm including you, (his brother in my tribute) my throat giggles knowing it was here we both laughed. As I left longing to know you, my favourite painter.

If you like Van Gogh I would highly recommend visiting this museum! The museum is organized in a way to slowly introduce you to Vincent's artistic career and life. It highlights his contribution and collaborations with other artists of the time.

The featured exhibit was incredible as well. It featured artist self-portraits - a wonderful experience which I enjoyed as much as the main collection.
I highly recommend ordering your tickets online and in advance. Include a multimedia device for the best experience! The museum took us about 4 hours to walk through fully.

Since we were in Amsterdam, visiting the Van Gogh museum was a must. The queue was around 45mins on a Tuesday in January at 3pm - don't worry though, the museum makes up for that inside. You get to see a glimpse of Van Gogh's life and the stories behind his work, very well laid out with pieces of accompanying work that relate to Van Gogh's life. The gift shop is well stocked with some great memorabilia and the cafe has great coffee and baked goods for a quick pit-stop. Our time here was pleasantly spent!

I ve been here twice and both times were an amazing experience. It is busy but if you allow some time it s easy to see everything you want to up close. The gift shops provide everything you could want from watercolours to coasters.

One of the highlights in Amsterdam. I should advise to book in advance your tickets if you don't have much time to spend there. It's most likely that it can be a sold out.
For a better experience, it's worth renting an audio guide. There's also a children's version which, allows then to interact with Van Gogh's story in an educacional and funny way.

Wonderful experience with guided tour. We went in the afternoon around 5 (got our tickets online the night before). It was not crowded and the audio tours were definitely worth the 5. The museum took about 2.5 hours to get through and we were going pretty fast. You don't have to go through the whole thing but the audio tour tells a bit of a story as you good so we liked taking a bit longer. The layout is a bit confusing and though it is laidout in a story of van Gogh it was surprisingly hard to follow that story without repeating our steps a few times.

Nice gallery with information about Van Gogh's life. It was incredibly busy when I visited (3pm on a Monday) which made it hard to see many of the items on display. As looking at art is the main reason for visiting a gallery, the number of people ruined the ambience and the overall experience.

Awesome collections of Historical items of the Wealthy of Amsterdam. The restoration of The Night Watch is ongoing and interesting....for a moment I started to rethink that painting, and question the historical and name account of the scene. I was lucky to visit over 2 days. Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Still life with flowers in a Glass Vase is a favorite. Post are photos of rest of Amsterdam....

Visited the Hockney Van Gogh exhibition, any then went onto view the rest of the gallery.
Well with a visit, I thought I knew Van Gogh's work but found so much fascinating new, to me, aspects to his output.
Apart from the works. If give it 5 stars if there has been sufficient seating around the galleries. They seem to have overlooked their physically challenged visitors.

This is one of the best museums I've ever visited! I really recommend coming here even if you're not the biggest van Gogh enthusiast since you get to experience his life and art in a really raw form.

One star not for van Gogh, who was a genius and I adore the style, but for the way the museum access is handled, i.e very bad! It's not specified anywhere clearly that you HAVE TO (not an option) book your visits WEEKS ahead. There are no available tickets in the day, no matter what, even if you arrive before the opening time. Neither buying the museum card or Amsterdam pass will help. Also, I'm very surprised that guide books don't stress it. They said, sometimes is less busy, yes I believe it but people traveling long way and then not having the chance to see the museum it's not a pity, it's a shame, because it's van Gogh! an unique genius.

One of my personal favorites, a museum dedicated to a great mind. His journey becomes your journey as you travel through time along his lifetime through his works. Great inspiration!!

This was OK but Van Gogh was kind of weird and depressive, so learning about his life made me feel sorry for him, like enjoying his work too much is somewhat exploitational. It was better when it was more simple, like the Dali Museum in Tampa, but today they have to pack the crowds in. The lighting could have been a lot better IMHO.

If you like Van Gogh's paintings, this is the place to go. A big, well laid out museum. Lots of friendly staff. I would recommend the studio tour, nicely made and informative. Photography of any kind of banned.

Wonderful museum but very busy, not helped by people taking photos of the paintings, sometimes posing alongside which blocks the view and enjoyment of the paintings for others. The staff should enforce a photography ban. It seems ridiculous at a gallery to take photos of paintings instead of looking at them with one s own eyes.

The best museum I ever visited. a great presentation of Van Gogh's work along his life stories. the Audio Guide is of the greatest museum interpretation I ever used. Would love to come back in another occasion.
