Had a good amount of interesting painting and exhibits. Ticket can only be bought online for those who are interested. The museumplein area next to the museum makes it perfect to spend a day at the museum.

I don't like Van Gogh's paintings so much but I really enjoyed the way how museum collection was organized and how nicely they explained why Van Gogh was really great and innovative artist!
I enjoyed how the museum showed the evolution of Van Gogh's style, including the works of his influencers and letters to his family and friends. Very informative.
Every time I visit Amsterdam this museum is on top of my favourite spots. Quite easily spending all day here wandering through the extensive collection of Van Gogh. Beautifully arranged as you go from floor to floor stopping at each entrance to read about his life during that particular period.
If you like van gogh, you would love this place. As the name represents, you can mainly find van gogh works in this place with combination of few other artists that were inspired by him.
Because of that after first floor it can get a bot boring everything we look the same
The museum itself does not have a good lighting. Some time is really hard to focus on the painting. You will see the light reflection in most of the works. Secondly the ventilation is not that good either. I noticed it when i went to rijksmuseum
Useless staff purchased some items in the museum and then was told that we couldn't take these items into another part of the museum! Quite pathetic attitude
Beautiful architecture and well constructed and designed museum, but a little pricey. Entry is more than entry to the Louvre but you obviously get far less pieces to enjoy
What can you say? Amazing display, great explanations, easy to get to, pleasant experience in ordering online tickets, modern and comfortable. Easy to spend a few hours in there.
They limit the entry here so it's not too crowded and you get plenty of time in front of each work. The Van Gogh's were incredible - a huge quantity of quality ones. They even have artwork from other famous artists which was a pleasant surprise.
Even there is a ban to take photos, all the guests don't care and what's worse the staff doesn't care neither even if you ask them to do something about it. Worst experience in a museum ever. Will definetely not come back.
The museum closed suddenly due to sports celebration regardless of the fact the tickets for the day have been all sold out. I was told to come back the next day, then they said they don't have any tickets for the next 9 days. I'm leaving Netherlands in two days and this museum was the main reason for my coming to Amsterdam, that's why I bought my ticket a lot in advance. This is ridiculous and unprofessional. You can't just close the museum with no prior notification that would allow to book tickets for another time (that's not over a week away).
Beautiful inside and out but way too many people. One problem also is people with audio headsets stand in front of a piece of art and never move, they are oblivious. Also no cameras allowed which was frustrating as I like to take pictures of the museum interior not the art work and I never use flash but they said no anyway. After 2 hours of waiting to see the art we left and got lunch. Glad our tickets were free with the Amsterdam pass.
Good museum. It isn't very large so we only ended up spending about two hours there.
The online tickets are a bit confusing. We ordered a certain time and ended up arriving very early. They still let us come in. Not sure if they ask you to select a time just to avoid everyone coming at once. But it didn't seem to be a barrier to entry.
The art is obviously great. The facility is beautiful as well - modern and filled with light. You cannot take bags in and checking them in took a 5-10 minute queue but it's worthwhile just to be unencumbered while staring at beautiful art. The audio tour has two modes and the highlights is a good one for the kids - it even tracks which ones you've completed for those with a Pokemon mindset.
Though smaller than I thought, I really enjoyed it. The audio guide was very informative and well worth the price. Buy your ticket online before you go and book a early morning visit to avoid crowds.
This museum exhaustively depicts and tells about the life and art of Van Gogh masterfully. Additionally, the gift shops are filled with bespoke souvenirs. It's extremely spacious well presented and organized. It's a must see!
I can only give one star because I didn't actually get to go to the museum. I would have loved to have gone but i made an error in booking my tickets by making them for a Friday instead of a Saturday. I noticed I made an error immediately and called to see if I could correct it, but because of the museum's strict policy they wouldn't even change the tickets to the next day. I wasn't trying to get a refund, just a change to the next day at the same time. Sure, it was my mistake and organizations can have whatever policy they want, but that's exactly why I'm giving them a low rating, because their policy can't accommodate correcting a simple human error.
Nice concept, the exposition allows you to surf through the artist's life and to understand the context of the works of art. Despite the short description present next to each work (Dutch / English), an audio guide or a guide would allow a better experience. On a very bad note: tickets are only available online and you can't be spontaneous in buying them! Forget just arriving there and hoping to get in (Maybe during thr working days there's a better chance).
The ticket was 18 but it was all worth it. The life and works of Van Gogh we're well displayed and explained by well made descriptions. A must if you're a Van Gogh fan! Plus, I had some issues with my ticket and the staff at the info point was so kind!
What a beautiful setting for a phenomenal collection of paintings. Just a day after the fire in the Notre Dame you realize how fragile our history is becoming. Good to see all restrictions (like the amount of people entering per day and no pictures taken) are working out. Fantastic to see some of Hockney`s famous works as well. Fun to see the panelpaintings live. I will be there again sometime.
We were not allowed to take any photos, which is a bit disappointing. We were over 3.5 hours in the museum and it was totally worth it to visit this museum.
Lovely museum dedicated to the works of Vincent and some of his friends and influences. I recommend to get a guide to go through here it will certainly add more depth and story to your visit.
Lovely museum. Was disappointed at the lack of mention of Starry Night (which is displayed in NYC). The museum was fairly crowded considered they have pretty strict time frames with tickets.
Amazing museum that shares the story of Vincent Van Gogh. Be sure to get tickets in advance from the website. The later in the day the better. We went at 5:45 (reserved that morning) and stayed until closing at 9. So much to read and see. Really fascinating, and sad.
A unique place to know the biography one of the famous painter in the world, with a lot of his painting from the begining he painted until he died, and also some of his friend's painting
Visited 3 times now - great every time. They've got a whole exhibition on for Sunflowers now highlighting some of the other variants he made. This museum features much of his very late work including his last unfinished piece, highlighting the way his brush strokes changed and his turn towards abstract art. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Amsterdam.
The Van Gogh museum has a giant queue in front that does not have seats nor a ceiling so we had to wait 40 minutes in heavy rain. The place to buy tickets should be replaced with automated machines so the process takes 2 minutes instead of 60. In general I would have liked more seating options within the museum.
I love art museums and it's a weekly activity for me. With a lot of respect for Van Gogh ,and it's lovely to see the Dutch pride in him and his work, unfortunately the museum itself doesn't give you the experience I was looking for. Naturally it presents many of Van Gogh's works and it's lovely to for the fans, and there is a part that try to capture his illusions and dreams which is done in a very nice way. But if you are not a big fan it's a bit ridiculous to pay for the most expensive museum in the center, it is very popular place and feels in times like being on the train for rush hour... It's very loud (acoustics in the building is terbole) I feel bad to speak that way on an art museum, but if you don't feel that you to see it for yourself not because two of your friends said it's great, just don't and see something else.
Amazing work, nicely laid out. Need to govern annoying tourists that take pictures and annoy visitors constantly though. They are like wild dogs, some of them. Security?
A great museum with amazing art by the one and only Vincent Van Gogh. This gallery has some great works at display. I'd advice you get an audio guide to know a lot of insight about the life and inspiration of Van Gogh
It was a very good experience! The staff is really nice and is very willing to help. But when I was looking for the wheat field with thunderstorms I couldn't find it, so that was a bummer.
The museum is great, easy to follow Van Gogh's lifetime. However, on Friday, although there were drinks and music, the music was more like electronic noise, I can imagine they are giving the stage to young art people, but it wasn't beautiful for the ears.
Very nice museum to visit. A temporary exhibition 'The Insanity' was also enjoyable. I came to understand Van Gogh much deeper with this one! Also, staffs were extremely kind, and one of the staffs made a superb recommendation for the book! I am really thankful for such a nice recommendation! I love reading it now. Thank you so much!
Such an amazing place. I enjoyed the exhibits much and would like to visit again sometime. There are hundreds of paintings and so much more to see. Bring your gym shoes here, there are alot of hard floors and stairs and maybe even bring a snack. There is a restaurant inside if you want a snack as well, the soup is very good.
WOW! One of the best places in the world. I can't recommend this place enough. Not only do you get to see some of the best art, you learn a lot about Van Gogh as a person. It's excellent!
An experience in top class that my wife and i was able to enjoy 1000% So much to learn and enjoy and the way the museum is build up is awesome, because its easy to find your way around. I was allowed to take the pictures by the people working there.
Very comprehensive story of Van Gogh due to the pictures inherited by his brother Theo upon Vincent's death at the age of 37. Make sure to reserve your timed entry tickets at least two days before you plan to visit. You get a window of half an hour each side of your time. The talk in the auditorium (1030 and 1330) is well worth attending. The audio guide for 5 Euros is well worth it. Trams 2 and 12 from Amsterdam central stop right in front of the museum (stop after Rijksmuseum).
One of the best museums I've ever visited. From the ground floor to the top, it really feels like you are following Van Gogh's life through his art, and through the texts on the wall describing the specific moment in his life related to the paintings next to them. When I went there in June 2018 there was an amazing exhibition of Van Gogh's inspiration to Japan, where we see some paintings by him which are not very well known but where you can surprisingly see how much he was fascinated by Japanese art, really unmissable exhibition!
Open your eyes to the world of the Impressionists with this tour. Go early and have a late breakfast in the cafe. Look out for the musical 'bed' in the Gift Shop that plays Don McCleans Starry Starry Night.
Absolutely amazing museum with a variety of art by Van Gogh. I had a great experience here as a tourist and will be definitely coming back here the next time I'm in Amsterdam.
Definitely a must visit for art lovers. But be prepared to buy your tickets well in advance if you are coming during tourist season and I highly recommend doing it online vs. telling to wait in line at the museum. Good collection of paintings, prints and items from his life. Also good collection of his contemporaries and stories about their connection.
This was my first visit to the van Gogh Museum and it was quite special. Pre-booking is essential as the museum is VERY busy and operates on a timed entry basis but this system does seem to work well. The museum is well laid out and there is plenty of space to see all of the art works. Large descriptions of each room are shown on the wall as you enter which gives a feel of how van Gogh was working at any one point on time, however, the individual descriptions of the art works can be difficult to read as the number of people does not make it easy to get too close. There is a nice Cafe in the museum and the range of food and drink is pretty good and of excellent quality, however, it can be a little expensive. In summary, the van Gogh Museum is well worth a visit but make sure that you plan ahead and book your time slot.
Loved it! Nice building, great number of artworks organised by time and category covering Van Gogh's whole lifespan. Large souvenir store and restroom.
Such an impressive collection of works. My visit was slightly disappointing due to some of the exhibits being closed for refurbishment? I wish I was notified of this in advance.
If you go, make sure to get the audio guide as it really provides a lot of insight. Worth the 5 Euros for sure.
The museum was quite crowded during my visit, but despite that - it was a nice experience. Although I didn't have the opportunity to contemplate or to admire the paintings in silence, the story of this great artist and his masterpieces simply engrossed me. Overall, totally worth the visit.
Fine presentation of artwork, although information is given fairly heavily in an uninteresting format. The gift shop and cafe are rather good but probably not worth the ticket. Best to just find images and research online
Thankfully they sell tickets on-site! (Contrary to what other websites say). I was unable to buy the ticket for Saturday online, but it s available at the ticket machine right outside the museum! Very nice museum that focuses on the life of Van Gogh. Enjoyed my visit and stayed there longer than expected. His works are amazing and it s a pity that the Starry night is not kept here.
Absolutely brilliant experience. Clearly the paintings are amazing, but beyond this they go into Van Gough brief 10 years paintings, his mental health, his relationships with family and friends. I found the entire thing very moving. No pics Im afraid as they are not allowed. One desperate plea though. There was a frightening amount of people taking photos with flash, despite signs everywhere. Please go and enjoy, but don't take photos. They will degrade the paintings and these deserved to be enjoyed for as long as possible.
Great place for families. My kids did the treasure hunt which was fun, educational and appropriate in content. Artwork, of course, was beautiful. Watch your kids closely because there is nothing to stop them from reaching the paintings other than a horizontal bumper that can be stepped over.
One of the best museums in Amsterdam. If you want to make the best of it, just make reservations online on their official website. If you do this, you don t need to stay in line. If you don t have tickets you can buy online and make reservations. If you have museum pass or museum card or any other type of pass you can make the reservation for free, you only need to show your card at the entrance. If you make reservations you will have the best time: NO NEED TO WAIT IN LINE. Also, take an audio guide. It s 5 euros and it s totally worth it.
Huge collection of van Gogh's works collected in interesting building. Paths for tourists are clear and there is enough space for loads of people. Quite expensive but worth seeing.
