Fair. Crowded, and a bit small for the price. They kind of have the market cornered on the VVG collection tho, so if you want to see some of these pieces you don't have another choice. Building is pretty and decently laid out, although in places it's narrow which becomes quite an issue with all the people. The most frustrating thing is that a few portions of the museum have chosen wall colors that make it very hard to read the (white) text about the paintings unless you are right next to it. What an bad choice.

Fascinating experience, learned a lot about Van Gogh, his life and work. A lot of his masterpieces present here, although a few notable absences (Starry Night is one that stuck out). Gets very busy and hard to get a good view of paintings so try to get a early morning tickets or late afternoon. Area around the museum is beautiful on a sunny day.

Beautiful storytelling (layout) of Van Gogh s progression of work and professional career. Recommend making reservations / purchase tickets ahead of time as day if tickets can be sold out.

Van Gogh is one of my favourite artists. So this was an important part of my trip. I was disappointed by the fact that we bought tickets online which then gave you a time for you to attend the museum. This did not seem to make a difference to the amount of people in the museum. I was very disappointed with people's behavior, people were rude not letting you enjoy looking at this extraordinary art and also taking photos when it explicitly says not to. I left before finishing my tour which saddened me greatly

I like many people knew of Van Gogh due to his Starry Night painting and I wanted to see more of his artwork. I am glad that I went to this museum, there was more of his artwork that I absolutely loved. Which I purchased from the gift shop.
If you have time and want to learn of Van Gogh s life and artwork, then I recommend that you go.

Wonderful museum, love how it is set up with a timeline and parts about his family. I'd recommend if you are staying in Amsterdam and want to visit to go early in the day, we went at 10:30am, and it was already quite busy, but more so when we left. Would definitely go again.

A must visit in Amsterdam

A must visit in Amsterdam

A world largest collection of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh paintings at this Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, featuring the masterpieces such as Sunflowers, The Potato Eaters, Almond Blossom and The Bedroom.

No wonder they have over 2.5 millions visitors a year

Last year We stayed in Amsterdam for nearly one week, so we decided to buy a Museum pass which allow us the flexibility and visit over 400 Museum in Holland (knowing that since July 2018 they adjusted their policy, we were lucky to brought our pass in March 2018 which allowed us to extended to 12 months till March 2019 at no extra cost, an excellent value). If you are Museum lover, Suggest you check for the latest information. With our 12 months pass we simple present the pass they will issue a free entrance ticket (no need to book in advance)

Highly recommend

Amazing museum but, unfortunately very overcrowded (eventhough they sell tickets with time slots). Cant really enjoy paintings when room is that crowded. Worth visiting anyway.

PS book tickets online that's very easy and will save you the time in the line.

One of my favorite museum. Van gogh's art is way better when you face it than printed on books. The audio guide content and museum organization is on the point : accessible yet educational on historical, emotional, personal... Aspects. Highly recommended.
Carefull tickets are only sold online or on machines next to museum. Time slots are specified.

Lovely!

Great museum. Easy to get there from train station. I recommend reservation of tickets and time slot online on their website in advance. Then you can purchase right outside museum. Go early, less crowded.

We bought the tickets for the last entrance.
If you would enjoy the museum you have to move slowly through the rooms (specially if you have children...) and unfortunately we didn't complete our tour.

My mother and I visited the Van Gogh Museum as part of our trip to Amsterdam. My mother is a great fan of his work and was really happy to see so many of his original pieces.
The exibitions were well spaced out and very informative however it was very crowded and difficult to spend time with the pieces due to the amount of people.
Slightly disappointed about no Starry Night but was very impressed by other works I wasn't familiar with.
I would definitely recommend, if you are visiting a few museums and galleries I would re ommemd buying the museum pass as it will save you money :)

Amazing museum where you can understand Van Gogh's paintings, you can immerse yourself in his life and see what took years to be noted by other collegues and critics of the 19th century: a true artist.
The view of the museum will take 2/3 hours, depending on personal interests and use of audioguide (that I strongly suggest). There are also games for youngsters that will help them to keep up their interest.
After my visit I understood why this museum is a MUST If you visit Amsterdam

Really cool place, even though I hate art went with friends, and had a good time. Entry is reasonably priced, but each ticket or QR code can only be scanned once, so you can't leave the museum and come back in after. Upon entry you are in the big open store, which has cool, high quality gifts and items, from keyrings to 400 vases and even dog clothing, so really fun to look through.
There is a linear walkthrough on V.G's life, mental illness and work which are interesting and well made. There is also a large open room dedicated to his 'sunflowers', work information about how many he made, the wax used to presyence it after (and how this was wrong etc) and the palates he used (I know nothing about art sorry if this info is too basic). There is also an authentic piece in this room. To get to this room there is a few flights of easy to climb stairs.
There is a painting workshop where you can be helped recreate or interpret some of his works, but don't try to find/crease your painting when you take it with you, it upsets the staff
I can't remember if there are toilets, sorry
There is not seating inside the museum, but outside there is places to buy food, clothes, more van Gogh gifts and sit down.
Photography is allowed, but signs forbid any photography using flash or noise, so silent photos only

What an amazing museum! What a fascinating personality. The museum takes you through his life, his work, his influences, his mental illness and his death. It is an awe to this unique man.

Fantastic museum with lots of exhibits. Was especially impressed with the information that came with many of the paintings and the ones about the deterioration of van goghs mental health. Good cafe and reasonably priced gift shop.

A very well-designed museum with plenty of exhibits. This is not a spur-of-the-moment visit because they often sell out several days in advance or only late-day tickets are available. We bought our tickets for 6:30pm at the kiosk near the I Amsterdam sign and would like to have gone earlier because there is so much to see.

Although Van Gogh was an incredibly prolific artist himself, quite a few works displayed are from his contemporaries who either inspired or were inspired by Van Gogh. I highly recommend the extra-cost audio guide, especially if you're pressed for time and can only see the highlights.

It's really lovely and with the audio guide, really quite interesting as Van Gogh wrote a lot of letters and you really get a good picture of his development as a person and a painter.

That being said, even with the throttling that the museum does, i found myself at times waiting for quite a bit for crowds to move out of the way so I could see or hear a piece. I recommend going early in the morning but even then, at peak tourist season I would imagine it is at capacity all day.

*Remember that you cannot buy tickets on the spot and need to book in advance along with your arrival time!*

Absolutely worth a visit! Grab an audio guide and take your time reading all the info material. Took me around 2-3 hours to see everything. Besides the amazing paintings there is a lot of information on Van Gogh's life, his family with lots of letters. You can listen to the content of the letters on audio devices, though they are fairly old and there is always just one little speaker that you hold to your ear, so waiting times might occur for that.
Also a great coat service, free of charge!

This museum is organized so well. You start off on the first floor learning about his family and desire to become an artist, followed by some elaboration on his training and mentorship under other French artists, leading up to the last year of his life when he produced probably the majority of his work. No pictures to show because it seemed the museum was a fairly protective of the pieces, which is understandable. I suggest going early, I went in the later evening (3 pm) and it was difficult to work at my own pace through the different sections and pieces. Lot of people using the audio tour guide and causing a "traffic jam" in many areas, tended to wiggle my way around them to read the descriptions, observe the art, and move on.

I really enjoyed the Van Gogh Museum! This museum is located in a convenient spot and easy to navigate if you buy your tickets in advance. We arrived using the hop on hop off canal boat tour. But this is easily accessed walking from Amsterdam Central Station or taking the 52 Metro toward Zuid getting off Zizelgracht and following the signs. Once in the museum each floor displays beautiful works of art throughout the course of the artists life. There are detailed descriptions that gives you a vivid depiction of a time and place for each piece of art. I especially like the history of the Van Gogh family.

Unbelievable. Vincent Van Gogh still manages to explode in your eyes. A pity the place is too crowded and noisy. I wonder if there is a time or a day when the visitors are seriously shushed and the magic can be complete. Prices at the cafeteria are preposterous.

Very interesting place with so much information. His art work is displayed beautifully and hours of time to take it in.
Highly recommended and the staff are kind and helpful. Easy to locate with regards to road access!
