Well-organized place, great to build and understand such a wonderful painting, Gogh's feeling for every painting
Well-organized place, great to build and understand such a wonderful painting, Gogh's feeling for every painting
Great collection of Van Gogh art as well as his history. There are 4 floors each showcasing different art work as well as time periods.
If you are a big fan I highly recommend it.
Coat and bag check are free and are located on the ground floor opposite the gift shop.
I suggest you get tickets online so you don't have to wait in line, unless if you purchased the iAmsterdam card then you will have to go to the ticket counter to get the free pass included with the card.
This is a fantastic museum for Van Gogh admirers. In addition to the huge collection of his works there are many interesting details of his life, inspirations, and creative development. Only two minor complaints. First, Starry Night was on loan to another museum, which is understandable, but as a result it was as if the painting didn t exist. No references to it in any of the materials there and no items in the gift shop featuring it. I was told this was due to licensing restrictions. Second, the gift shop can only be accessed by buying a museum ticket. We attended the museum but didn t buy anything from the gift shop. We later decided that there was something we wanted, but couldn t get back in. Most museums I ve visited have a separate entrance for the gift shop.
What a fantastic collection! Is perfect for experts, enthusiasts and those who are merely curious about Van Gogh. There are several iconic pieces that anyone will recognise, though the broader collection gives a real picture on his life and those around him. Highly recommend booking your tickets online so you don t have to wait in line.
Great museum, great paintings, everything is well organized.
Only negative point is that you can't take pictures (even without the flash).
This is probably my favorite museum that I have been to. I loved how you feel like you really got to learn a lot and see so much beautiful art too. It can be very crowded which makes it a little annoying
I was disappointed as the painting are not all the best work of van gogh. There was a lot of other painter works in the museum. It is not fully Van Gogh work
Not too crowded, spread out, plenty of explanations. All theb sunflowers werdvin a desperate temporary exhibition, but that was no extra charge. Apple pie in the cafe was lovely
Van Gogh Museum was a wonderful experience. The Museum itself is very clean and nicely built. Very sleek.
The Art was outstanding. Beautiful paintings, drawings, and other artwork fill the 4 floors of the Museum. Loved seeing the beginning of his life and work to the end and how his paintings differed as he aged.
My only pet peeve are of course the crowds. Some people do not understand on how to wait their turn when you are reading what is on the wall. Don't mind me if I step right in front of you. ugh... Otherwise, what a great experience and viewing pleasure.
The line to get inside can get long but if you go in the afternoon, it's less of a wait. The art pieces were breathtaking and the multimedia tour guide was very insightful.
[TIP] Buy tickets ahead of time.
A magnificent tribute to one of the world's most brilliant artists
Great museum. Art beautifully displayed. Recommend the audio guide. Good value if you use the I Amsterdam Card. Tickets sell fast. We bought the card in London to pick up in Amsterdam and were worried because you can't actually book the timeslot until you have the actual card. Eventhough tickets were fully booked the I Amsterdam gave immediate entry. They will not let you enter before your timeslot so hover near the cue 10 mins before.
A nice small museum dedicated to Van Gogh and occasionally some other artist works can be found inside. U also get to see artists works that inspired Van Gogh and his friends.
I found that not only the paintings were excellent, but the retelling of van Gogh's life as well. The exhibit that had a "glimpse inside his mind" was very at retelling his mental state.
The experience at Van Gogh Museum was not as I expected it. It's an exhibition that tells about the life of the artist and his influences, but sometimes it is too prolonged on other artists leaving out just van gogh.
Amusing art that well characterizes his friends and family and how he struggled throughout his adult life, I'd recommend pay the extra 3 for the audio tour, it's the best way to really enjoy the history
This place is amazing the art work and the building are brilliant.
I loved the kids audio guide. My entire family was so engrossed in the art and the dream exhibit.
If you like painting don't hesitate that you must see it
It's definately a great place for anybody who is an art loving creature.
Besides the most impressive collection of Van Gogh, they really know how to build and run a museum!
A wonderful modern museum full of Van Gogh's amazing paintings. You will leave this museum with a deeper understanding of his life and works, and admiration for this artist and his undeniable passion for painting! This is def in the top 5 things to see in Amsterdam.
It s okay, went through in half an hour. You can t take photos yet everyone does anyways
I loved this museum. I wish I had spent more time here! I could spend a day in there, easy. I've always loved Van Gogh SO much so I felt happy to have spent time with his original artworks. There is so much to see and also a lot of information on his artwork and life. The exhibits in the other section of the museum was very entertaining to walk through. Very pleased with my visit!
Great experience. It's the best place to learn about a great painter's life and work.
Well managed, amazing outside and great inside. Only positive impression after you complete all the halls n levels inside. Very interesting museum shop. And multi language audio guide. Special thanks to very interesting comments in audio guide. It makes you feel Van Gogh so deep. On the same wave with him. Highly recommended to visit!!!
P.S. special places for photos n selfies
Nicely organized painting. The audio guide really helps. It guides on the background of each painting. Need to plan half a day to do justice for a visit. Will strongly recommend. Better buy tickets online to avoid waiting in que.
Amazing collection. Crowds make it tough...although the staff do their best with a free coat and bag check.
I couldn't buy the timed reservation without the iAmsterdam Pass in hand, so couldn't do it weeks ahead of time like I hoped (we were on a 7-day Cruise). Burt luckily the Pass has separate quotas so we bought the Pass at the iAmsterdam shop at 9 am and immediately did an online museum reservation for 1 pm (timings before then were full). Was a fantastic experience to see so much of Van Gogh's work, it was thrilling! Highly recommended!
Great but make sure you buy your tickets before you get there
Definitely a memorable place to visit; filled to the brim with artwork, the building itself and similar structures are also amazing. It is always filled and rightfully so. Only issue was how big it actually was without a lot of good food and water sources for a decent prices. Though its definitely worth the visit.
I really enjoyed spending time in the museum. The structure of the exhibition is very nice. There are three floors showing three different stages of Vincent Van Gogh's life so if you get tired soon you can just select the one that interests you most without having the feeling of an incomplete experience. Very nice!
Interesting museum, presenting a timelapse of the life of this ambiguous and genius artist through his works and masterpieces. Being overcrowded along with insufficient lighting didn't let me totally enjoy the experience.
Van gogh is a must! Every bit of this museum was a great experience, very Spacious, organized, friendly staff. Be sure to be there !
Simply A-MA-ZING!
Among the best artist ever!
Van Gogh, a genius!
Excellent Museum, huge space and masterpieces by Van Gogh and others, that inspired him. You can buy and schedule by internet, and scape lines. No needs to print the ticket. Gorgeous museum shop at the entrance, and a local to leave heavy coats and backpacks.
Everything about Van gogh. From his origin, siblings, friends. Basically his life story packed in 3 storey bulding. Only if you are big fan of arts. You will love it. Else, don't bother going.
Because I can not take pictures, I slowly spent time watching it. It was disappointing that the annex was closed. I think it would be better to reserve tickets
Museum is attractive with many awesome artwork but no photos allowed inside
Fantastic. Not normally a fan of art museums but this and Rijksmuseum were brilliant. Loved that they took you through his life as well. The inside his mind experience on the ground floor was small but intriguing too. Very busy though, had to fight through a lot of people
Impossible to get inside of museum.
Closed front desk for buying tickets.
Online is everything full.
I'm ready to go back again and again. Just can't take it all in only two visits.
Highly recommended the highlights audio tour if you have children. This lasts about an hour.
Loved the museum. Multimedia guide is a mandatory one.
Brilliant building and very well organised collection. Staff are too sweet and helpful.
The staff were very polite. The ticket process was seamless and they offer coat/bag check for free. The galleries are spacious with plenty of standing and seating space. The museum store has a ton collectible items that are reasonably priced.
Large spacious area, beautiful set out and information
Well displayed works of Van Gogh with lots of great information on his life. Bought my ticket online, getting in was easy but I had to find the correct entrance. Overall a must see in Amsterdam for those who love Van Gogh
Well, it's hard to give negative verdict given that works of art are magnificent, but surely there is a lot to improve. First, captions for each painting are written in very small font without any reason, and it's barely possible to read because rooms are dark and crowded.
Because of the latter there is also lack of fresh air, and all these crowds... it's really difficult to enjoy Van Gogh and other artists when you should make your way to the picture using elbows.
I think that impressions of viewing the exhibition justify price of 18 euro but I'd recommend visiting it easily morning, when it's not so overwhelmingly crowded.
Photography is prohibited by the way, and it's great. Just imagine what would happen if all these tourists made a selfie with each portrait Vincent created?
Arrived shortly before the museum opened at 9am, but we were not able to purchase tickets until closer to 9:30 as we did not have our tickets pre-med, and the museum gives priority entry to those who did. Nevertheless, the museum contains a beautiful collection of Van Gogh's work, and offers an interesting introspective into the life of a very troubled artist.
Must see for any art freak. To stand face to face with real masterpieces of Vincent is priceless.
I loved doing the little treasure hunt with my youngest (5 yrs old). We had so much fun working through it together and seeing many of Van Gough s masterpieces.
Lovely place. Great collection and lovely bits at the shop.
Please also get the audio guide for the tour. The story narrations are fantastic and make the tour a whole lot better
Excellent. Plan to spend 3 hours here with the audio guide if you want to see everything, learn about it, and not feel rushed.
Loved every single bit of it. I finally made one of my dreams come true and saw van Gogh's masterpieces for the first time in my life. Unforgettable visit!
It was great to visit the Van Gogh Museum. It was like a dream come true. It was obviously crowded but I think most museums are. Make sure you buy your tickets online. They usually don t sell at the kiosk. The shops are also selling good stuff and management is decent. We went once without booking and returned empty handed and booked for the next day right away. It s usually sold out on such short notice.
The Van Gogh Museum gives you a fascinating insight into the sad and tragic life of this genius artist.
Learning about his story and being up close with his artistry is a truly moving experience.
If like me you're a casual art observer, or if you're an art aficionado, you'll have plenty to see and love about the Van Gogh Museum.
One of the best museum I have gone. Is fully focused on the life of Vincent (even with some of his letters on the 2nd floor) and the audio guide, which I recommend, does a good job on describing the life of the artist so to visitors to grasp what he felt. The audio guide might feel a bit akward at first, but with just some little practice people start enjoying it. You will need to buy the ticket in advance through the website for a specific entry time as no entry is allowed without a ticket. There is a free cloak room so you can leave coats and bags and enjoy a hassle free visit.
very nice dont remember who painted the puctures though
The museum and the art are good but the museum is not. The light are pretty bad, the painting are out on a bad background sometimes. He could be much better which some many beautiful painting.
Nothing special, security showed their disrespect towards us. They don't like our nationality
I am a huge fan of Vicent Van Gogh. This place is awesome. Not just about his masterpieces, but to learn his life. High recommended for everyone who travel to Amsterdam!
My favorite museum in Amsterdam. Definitely would recommend to spend there 3-4 hours. The exhibition Van Gogh and Japan is amazing and eye opening for me.
Great museum, definitely one of Amsterdam's finest. A must visit for any tourist. The audio tours are very well done and definitely add to the experience significantly. However the premises is quite crowded and it is quite hard to get a good look at some of the paintings, especially the more famous ones.
Loved the visit.. Great to know about life & work of a genius -- one of the greatest Artists ..Online booking was easy & they respond well
If you like me Van Gogh this is the museum to visit. Unlike the Rijksmuseum no photography allowed. The Hockney special exhibition was interesting too but those Van Gogh's are incredible. All produced in less than 10 years, phenomenal!
Loved this museum. Very interesting and well laid out. I'd recommend going for the combo ticket (admission & audio tour). and take time to listen to various letters on 3rd floor! I'd have happily spent upwards of 5 hours here. combo ticket was 23, admission ticket was 18
I love Van Gogh and I never been so fascinated. One of the best experience of my life. You can see in the paintings which way he moved the paintbrush... simply fascinating !
I booked my ticket online and was not necessary to wait. There are 2 entrances, one for online tickets one for buying there, the line was 10-15 meter long.
If you want to visit, buy a online ticket.
Enjoy the unique experience.
Very nice museum, the art is fantastic, but quite busy and difficult to see the pieces due to crowds. Not all of Van Gogh's work is on display here. Some famous pieces are loaned to other museums.
very informative museum. absolutely with audio guide. visiting hours till night
Nice museum and the space outside it is perfect for relaxation in a day with good weather.
Don't miss out on this museum , absolutely amazing collection of van Goghs art
Loved how the museum is arranged in such a way that you get an idea of each phase in Van Gogh's life.. I wish they can get the starry night over here some day.
Not only is the museum full of many of Van Gogh's work, the the audio tour was so eye opening. I never new he painted over 400 works of art. It was nice to hear about his life, how humble he was.
The name of the museum goes without saying, absolutely out of this world
On Fridays it's open until 9pm (and less crowded than usual): it's a nice and different way to start the weekend!
For fans of Van Gogh, this is a must see. Three floors of Van Gogh with a few of his contemporary masters thrown in. Good explanation of his influences and how his style developed during his life.
Content is special and if you are a Van Gogh fan, this is a must in Amsterdam. Definitely pre purchase tickets for the museum. The queues here are very badly managed and despite having a lot of space inside, they make people queue outside in the sun, rain, snow etc.
Such a wonderful experience from die hard fans of Van Gogh to those who only know him as "that guy who painted the sun flowers right?". The exhibition dedicated to his mental health was particularly moving whilst remaining sensitive to the issues he faced. I would absolutely recommend, it's a must see when visiting Amsterdam.
A comprehensive guide to the life and works of Van Gogh. For those experienced in his life, there is not much to learn that is new, but his work is more than ample enough to leave your mind satsified and pondering. We were fortunate enough to go with a Hockney exhibition also on and the comparison between the two works and Hockney's admiration for Van Gogh was a fantastic start to the museum. I would definitely recommend buying a ticket in advance as we queued for well over an hour on a Friday morning.
