A wonderful place for a day out, as, if you read all the notes and take your time taking in the paintings and want to know how vincent was inspired, this place will take you a hole day to go round. Enjoy your self, maybe pop into the cafe or gab a coffee in the Foyer before you go in. This place is some where to enjoy. Although some of vincents most famous pieces were not at the museum the collection there is brilliant and highlighted to me some works I would have not otherwise seen or known about nor would I have learnt so much about this man's life.

What a magnificent collection of everything Van Gogh! Not only are his iconic paintings on display, but everything from sketches, journal entries to letters too. Because you have to pre-book your tickets, it doesn't feel like it gets 'too busy', so great and steady atmosphere throughout the day (but the earlier the better). Lots of other art work too, like Toulouse-Lautrec, Millet, Money, Manet, Rodin, Degas, Munch, Daubigny and more. The gift shop has an amazing selection of all sorts of souvenirs, something for everyone.

I wanted to come to this museum since I was a child and it fulfilled my expectations. You can only buy tickets online. The earlier the better. I definitely recommend buying the audio guide, even though it doesn t have the same order as the paintings. I also loved the museum shops. And we really enjoyed our 3 hour visit to this museum. It s now my favorite museum.

Best place to browse van Gogh's paintings. However, the place is very touristy, with the major paintings replicated on every sellable surface including stationery, t-shirts and coffee mugs.

Limited tickets and preset time slots for entrance so planning ahead is a must. No photos allowed in exhibit. 19 online, tour resellers mark up the price so better to go directly to the site. Too crowded, stuffy. Hard to really get a sense of the art with all the people. Not as many exhibits as I thought. Might be nicer with less crowds, but still it is quite "touristy".

I really enjoyed my time here. I always think of him as my Vincent, but today had to share him with others. There were a few irreverent individuals who took pictures on their phones (shame on you) and many long lines to stand in to see the paintings. I suggest arriving at opening, go right to the top floor, and work your way down to get a more private viewing.

~200 paintings and ~500 drawings from Van Gogh. It s awesome seeing a well-done massive collection devoted to the life s work of a single artist. Lots of stairs to climb, floors to walk, and standing to do so come prepared. My favorite is actually the Van Gogh for the Blind exhibit in the smaller gift shop. You can touch a reproduction of Sunflowers, smell the color yellow, and then hear about his painting too.

When my wife and I were thinking of doing a museum on our trip to Amsterdam, we weren't sure what to do. After a lot of reading, we decided on the Van Gogh museum, and we were not disappointed. We were expecting to spend about two hours here, but we got swept up in the art. We totally recommend getting the multimedia guide as it is very well done.

This is probably one of the best Museums I've been to. The flow of the museum is brilliant. The juxtaposition of Van Gogh's paintings along with the ones he's been inspired from is awesome as it helps us see the influence of Japanese art on his work.

Most wonderful museum experience. They were so friendly and kind! They even had a free stroller to use for our baby girl! It was beautifully laid out and made me really appreciate Van Gogh. We loved the special exhibit too! I would highly recommend!

The Van Gogh museum is great to visit in Amsterdam. Make sure you buy your ticket prior arrival because you might not be able tp get a ticket.
The entrance you would be checked your bags just for safety purpose going down on the escalator market is around that you can buy stuff like water coffee and some stuff the girl was apsolutly amazing that worked there.
Then if you have bags you can leave them at the customer service with no extra charge and also you can get audio where all the pictures could be translated in any language you wish for.
On the first floor when you get into the museum where Van Gogh paintings are it is amazing energy and learning up close about this incredible artist his art is apsolutly fascinating. When you are in Amsterdam visit Van Gogh museum

This was an absolute pleasure. It was as if Van Gogh's spirit is there. It is really worth a visit. You must just be aware of the time schedule as they only let people in at certain times.

With the Amsterdam Card you still have to wait in the line for hours.
Booking the ticket online is super convenient but if you already paid for the card and you're screwed.
Either come very early or DO NOT BUY I AMSTERDAM CARD
Entering the line at 8.30, they opened the ticket sales at 9.40.

Actually quite a good gallery and museum! There are a lot of Van Gogh works as well as paintings done by his friends of the time and those he inspired later. I had thought 18 was expensive but presently surprised at how long I spent there. The cafe also has great cakes! The walnut and honey was divine!

Fun museum with the iconic sunflower vase painting inside. Van Gogh really made great paintings and this museum gives a nice narrative of his life. One star less for the fact that the line to get in is usually so long you wait outdoors and being Amsterdam, it rains all the time. Is it that difficult to put up a covering for the thousands of visitors who go here? We waited outside for about 30 minutes and it was far less enjoyable to view the exhibitions while wet.

Unforgettable experience!

I would recommend to buy tickets online, it will safe you a couple of hours

Wonderfully-displayed museum in a quaint area of Amsterdam. In terms of layout and sequencing, this is one of the best museums I have ever been to. You can really see the progression of Van Gogh as a person and an artist as you follow along, and get a great appreciation for his struggle. Evenings seem to be better than days for crowds.

Cool spot, wish the temp was cooler inside....cloak room is free, and the exhibits were really neat enough. No bad for a guy that cut off his ear then offed himself....to get a museum dedicated to him.

Seeing van Gogh's paintings for real is amazing. This is a very special experience. The only annoying thing was that the museum doesn't store luggage, so if you've just come from the airport, it didn't work - it ended up just me going and my partner looking after our bags :(

Loved it! No pictures can be taken per the rules of the museum but tourists ignore the rule! Very irritating when I am following the rules. Love Vincent's work! Please respect the museums rules!

Beautiful place and amazing Van Gogh's paintings! They have some paintings by other artists, friends of Van Gogh and someone who inspired him. It's simply great!
The bad thing is the ticket is so expensive and you can't take pictures inside.
And, you must to buy the ticket very early to have the chance to enter into the museum the same day... They give you an specific hour to go in and you can stay inside just for one or two hours, because there are many persons wanting to see the awesome paintings.

It is really nice that you can see the artist completely. Important paintings are missing (i think 2 of them) that's the only bad part. Friday night's open until 9, if you have enough time in Amsterdam, it would be a nice couple of hours.

We loved the set up of the museum. The colour of the walls made beautiful contrast with the gorgeous paintings of Van Gogh and others. In the beginning we thought we will spend only 30 mins in there but we did spend 3 hours of looking and reading about every single painting. The paintings next to each other really took us to a trip that we couldn t leave. Thank you for the experience!

Museum extensively overpriced, 20 for 3 floors of paintings among which, however, are missing the most famous and the most beautiful of van gogh. Audio guide not included in the price. The museum is still beautiful and worth a visit, even if 20 are definitely too much, especially because there are no discounts of any kind for students or under 25 or any other.

Very nice museum. Does a great job showing Van Gogh's art over his lifetime and their context. Parts where it showed pieces from artists he was inspired by definitely was a nice addition. I'd recommend this place to anyone interested in art at all.

Great info and any art aficionado would love it. We did not do the audio portion. If you have alot of time to spend that could have been helpful. I appreciated seeing his inspirations and different phases of his work.

Very interesting, beautiful museum. But one queue after the other..
First of all the entrance. If it's really busy you can't get in until 15min before the time of your ticket. And if you finally enter, there is the next queue, which is even longer..! You have to hand in your coat, backpacks, handbags etc.

It's good, booked on line, easy to park near by, plenty of paintings to view, can be busy, sign says no camera's but every one was taking photo's, all in all was a good visit and would return.

One of my favorite museums we went to in Amsterdam. Go later in the day to avoid the crazy crowds. Had more than enough time to view everything in under 2 hours.

Oh, and PLEASE enjoy the adjacent park. It was just...perfect.
