So much great at work. What a troubled life he had...
So much great at work. What a troubled life he had and sad that he died so young.
So much great at work. What a troubled life he had and sad that he died so young.
Very good collection, this is a must visit. They have temporary exhibitions as well and not just Van Gogh So it is worth multiple visit as well.
I recommend to get the tickets online and don't get them on the spot because the line for this museum is always absurdly long. I would give it 5 stars if its not for the terrible crowd control that this museum has, which can dampen the experience.
Spectacular paintings from van Gogh and his contemporaries. The tickets are bookable in one hour slots, however there is nothing stopping people from staying longer than an hour. Worth going either very early in the morning, or in the two hours before closing to avoid the larger groups and crowds.
Excellent Art Museum dedicated to Van Gogh!! Several floors very well organized with an interactive audio guide very well done (I really suggest it during this visit). From the bottom floor to the top, early and final part of the artist's life, including palette, brothers letters and curiosities. A really must see attraction! At the entrance you find everything you need to deposit your luggage for free.
An intimate experience of Van Gogh's life and work. A must see!
Great collection, BUT always full of people, have to book a ticket before you go pay for a visit.
Good experience, a well maintained museum but woah so crowded the whole appointment system might need a rethink
The museum is okay... nothing too amazing. Slightly underwhelming and by no means worth the 19 and hassle of online booking to see it. Save the money and do something else more interesting.
Great exhibition of Van Gogh and friends. quite crowded but still ok, since access is limited. Tickets only online!
just one remark: the queue outsides in the rain is not optimal, you could do a little more there with "runners" that bounce those without reservations already in the queue.
Must visit. Great with a city card. Book a visit in advance via their website. Great place. Love Van Gogh work, he was a crazy dude. His work are priceless. At the souvenir shop you can find some interesting stuff. Totally recommend!
There's no better place in the world if you love Van Gogh's life and work.
Rent an audio guide, you will learn many interesting facts and stories behind his paintings.
If only I had didn't have sore feet. It would be more enjoyable
A very successfully planned and organized collection. The narrative on each floor is very thoughtful
Made a whole day of this, a really fascinating place. Loved the special exhibition. Plenty of information to read. Can get busy but you can tale your time.
Overall it was good. A bit on the pricey side for the size. Not sure why they don't allow pics like all other museums do.
This is the best museum I have ever been to. The museum is very well thought out, taking you to a journey of one of the world most iconic painter. Not only you will be able to get to know the artistic value and the creative process of how each piece of art was created, you will be able to get to know van gogh personally. This museum is not just a plain art museum, it is a museum to celebrate and commemorate van Gogh. The most brilliant part of the museum is the showcase of the exchange of letter between van Gogh and his loved one. In those letters you can feel and relate to his situation, which really impact you as you feel like you have received a letter from your beloved friends. It's utterly amazing. If you ever paid a visit to Amsterdam, I urge you to go to van Gogh museum.
So much content and a great learning experience, well done vince
Very big and interesting. I feel like it doesn't completely reflect all parts of Van Gogh life or like it just presents the good ones. That sadly makes his character look a little flat even though he was such an interesting person and artist.
The rest of the museum is great though! Much space and so many letters he wrote that were talked about. The audio guide gives you a little more info but kind of distracts you from the paintings I personally think.
I went to this museum with my mom and sister. My sister is a huge Van Gogh fan, so we wanted to see it while in Amsterdam. If you are a Van Gogh fan, I can't imagine you wouldn't love this museum. It is beautiful, well laid out and has a great little restaurant to relax in when you want a little break. There is also a nice gift shop.
There is a recorded tour on a player and headphones that you can use. It was a little confusing at first, but we got the hang of it.
The reason for four instead of five stars is that my sister's favorite painting (Starry Night) wasn't there. It was on loan in N.Y. You understand why, but it was a little disappointing.
The audio tour is a must do. The museum does an excellent job of telling Van Gogh's story. Make sure you give yourself ample time can easily spend an entire afternoon here
This is a MUST SEE for any traveler in Amsterdam! I suggest the "multimedia tour" where you can explore at your leasure and listen to important information about Van Gogh's life and what inspired him to paint the things he did.
Well organised, brilliant collection of some of the best art ever created
We loved it, an audio guide is great and not too long, even interactive sometimes. the collection represents his works and also artists who influenced him and who were influenced by him. It all leaves an impression of a whole picture XD)
Very interesting, 5 stars!
The Japan exhibit was great. The main exhibit was not. Way too many people. Half the paintings were covered by heads. The multimedia tour device only played audio in one ear and sometimes not at all, unless I held the cable a certain way. I got to see some great paintings and hear some interesting facts though, so it wasn't too bad.
Beautiful masterpieces; well designed pathways and organized galleries. Too bad the Starry Night isn't here.
If you like arts, and (of course) Van Gogh, this is the perfect place to spend the afternoon!
You can find the most complete collection of paintings from Van Gogh and the painter who influenced him during his life.
This is a beautiful place to visit with your family!!!
Well managed - clean, informative, good value for money. Book online for a timed entrance slot. Good food options inside. Incredible to be up close to so much of his work. Supporting exhibitions which place VG's work in context are also clearly displayed.
Get to see not only Van Gogh's work but also the ones influenced him or inspired by him
If you love art and history this is a great place to visit to get to know one of the greatest artists in history. I feel like the museum design could be more interesting to add up to the atmosphere but other than that it was wonderful!
Well worth the money (about $20 USD). Please come here if you have enough time in Amsterdam. It was breath taking to view the art.
Being a Van Gogh fan I was absolutely blown away here. Buy your tickets on line as they don't sell them at the door. You also have to choose a time for your entry. Once in you have to Q for a bit to get in and then Q a bit more to put your bag away. Once all the Qing is done you can spend your time moving floor to floor, room to room basking in the arty glow of one of the world's greatest artists.
Very interesting museum to know more about Van Gogh s life and the story behind his paintings.
The entrance fee is quite expensive but the setting is nice
Great museum with Van Gogh Collection, wounderful service and good value gift shop. Worth the ticket.
the museum is not bad and they have interesting works by the author. I have read several books of Van G.'s letters with his brother and other letters. All right. I think the best works are in France, England and Spain.
The Van Gogh and Japan exhibition is worth seeing at least once in a lifetime. All in all a great museum for any fan of Van Gogh's art and also for a better understanding of his life and suffering.
Lots of detail about Van Gogh as you'd expect. Goes into great detail to describe the different eras of his life and paintings.
Some of the paintings were difficult to see up close because they were another mounted too high or lights reflected off their protective screens too much.
The audio guide is worth it and even shows some of the smaller or harder to see paintings up close on its touch screen.
Even for someone who lacks training in art or art history, justing visiting this museum and seeing the paintings of Van Gogh, including the famed Sunflowers, it's easy to see the evolution of post-impressionist art, the legacy and influence Van Gogh had on future generations. The museum not only covers paintings, but also a biography of Van Gogh including his family.
The multimedia guide is also very good and can either take you through a highlights tour if you're constrained for time or just see whatever you like.
Make sure you plan ahead and buy tickets in advance because the tickets are timed for a entry slot on the stated day. The online reservation totally uncomplicated, staff on site very friendly and helpful.
Just a shame photos aren't allowed.
Excellent museum documenting the life of one of the most renowned painters of all time, Van Gogh, from his childhood to his deteriorating mental health and tragic and untimely death. Along the different floors that comprise this building, we get to know not only his artistic inspirations (some more known than others, how many of us were aware of the influence of Japanese art in his own paintings?), but also his relationship with his family, especially with his brother Theo, and with other artists such as Paul Gauguin. The museum is not excessively big so it can be thoroughly explored in 1'5-2 hours, but I would advise buying tickets beforehand since it tends to get quite overcrowded, even on weekdays.
Must visit when visiting Amsterdam even if museums are not on your list.
Give yourself at least an hour and a half. It's definitely a must see place if you're in Amsterdam!
As a museum it house the largest collection of his art I think anywhere and the museum itself is laid out very logically it also has lots of art by others artists lovely cafe and nice helpful staff however before I went to the museum I had been to the van gough live display in york and quite frankly that was a whole different experience I cant help but feel that if they made the auditorium (which hardly anyone seemed to visit) display the van gough live display this would really elevate the museum.
The restaurant serves lovely food and the cloak room and toilet facilities were spotless.
Just felt as a museum it just missed the mark really.
This place is amazing. Warning: you have to buy tickets ahead of time. Van Gogh has such an interesting story and evolution as an artist which is really fun to watch through the exhibits
Overcrowded, warm and claustrophobic. Where the art itself was fantastic, the experience of this museum was rather mediocre. Between the multiple tour guides and the large crowds, one does not get to enjoy the art at all.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and although it was busy it was a lot more tolerable than I'd anticipated for a Sunday. Highly recommend.
A really well built museum, you truly enter Van Gogh s life as well as his era with his peers
You should definitely book in advance (yes, also for weekdays), and even so, don't expect an "intimate" experience with the painter - the museum is always full. You can't take pictures inside - apart from a "selfie area".
That said, it's a must see in Amsterdam, and for very good reasons: it's quite informative, a few masterpieces are really moving, and the optional multimedia guide is one of the best I've ever seen (get it!).
I love it. Truly something special. Yes in the holiday season it gets a bit crowded but through to the time management it is never too full
A well maintained museum but some of the best work of Van Gogh were not even there in the museum. At least recreation of the starry nights would be appreciated
Fantastic display of exhibitions. Down side are the rude security personnel and way too many tourists bumping and shoving.
You can learn everything about Vincent Van Gogh and see his masterpieces in a beautiful modern building. I also like the caffe inside the museum with the view in Museumplein.
I found that the lighting makes it difficult to see the paintings at time. Lots of light reflecting on paintings and over all very dark. The art itself is beautiful.
Absolutely gorgeous museum, totally worth the visit! The exhibition is huge and they made a big effort to show us not only the Van Gogh's work but the his life as well.
I learned a lot more about the man and his art. It was a great experience.
I enjoyed the friendly staff, the history but was saddened to learn that Starry Night was not on display because it is owned by MOMA NYC
Love this museum. Their audio guide is hard to use but exhibits are amazing.
If you love Van Gogh you must visit this museum. The "Cypresses" painting looks so beautiful live . Lines are long but they move pretty fast. The giftshop offers pretty interesting stuff.
Amazing museum. The best museum that I've ever visited. If you have time to walk leisurely, you should take guide. 5 hours had been left as 5 minutes. In case of hunger you could have a lunch in the cafe on the 1st floor.
A plastic bag is given for staff that you don't want to leave in cloakroom.
Great museum with detailed walkthrough of the artist s life
Well worth visiting, amazing seeing the original works, some areas were busy but the museum is over many floors so you could easily find a quieter spot. Multimedia guide is well done and helps keep younger kids entertained searching for things. We tried to book tickets online but their website had major issues on the day we tried to visit initially (was taking over 5 minutes to load each page and timing out, other people were struggling with it too). Huge queue outside in the cold rain and wind, which wasn't pleasant. We managed to book online the next day and skipped the queue, which was much easier.
Museum itself was great. The one thing that bothered me was that the ticketing service. Do yourself a HUGE favor and just buy your ticket online. Ticket agent there didn't sell tickets at the window, she only told me to by ticket online or on the machine after waiting in the long line. Machine also ends up being a waste of time onless you are buying for a future date.
Well oraganised and very informative. Do reservation for wanted timeslot at least 3 days ahead, if you want to pick specific time for your visit. Otherwise they may be fully booked. If you missed your opportunity, try looking at 5pm, you might still have a chance.
We arrived at 9:15 or so and left at 11 to catch a plane, so breezed through most of it. The self portraits are spectacular, as are the earlier landscapes. Will go again next time in AMS.
Loved it! They currently have Sunflowers on display. Took about an hour to go through. Buy tickets very far in advance!
Wonderful experience. I recommend to use the audio guide!
Terrific museum! Four stars and not five because of the internal organisation of the painting that is a bit confused. I highly recommend buying tickets on line to avoid very long queue at the entrance as well as buy the audio guide that is really useful for the visit!
I couldn't think of a better place if you are a Van Gogh fan. Great organization, some interactive options. Good analysis of the paintings and narrative where there's is a story line that connects the artwork.
Went on truffles, would recommend to anyone who doesn't suffer with anxiety
I booked my tickets from the museum web site
Of course the best way to save time to enter
I can put 5 stars for the genius of Van Gogh
Everyone should see his works
I spent 6 hours to visit all the collections
The audio guide in helpful but I think could give some more informations
I really didn t enjoy the way paintings were illuminated was hard for me to experience the colors and on some of those there were to many lights reflection
but anyway I think I will be back if I can
The price should definitely be a little be lower
so more people can have this experience
Like a face to face session with Vincent. Definitely worth the time!
Very good. Online store provides lots of beautifully presented.gift ideas.
Love the artwork and the information given. Enough information without being boring. Didn't do the audio tour and enjoyed it without. Had to queue to buy a ticket and then queue to check coat and bag (mandatory) but can understand why - it meant not too many people in the galleries at once so you always got a good view and no bags/big coats in the way.
Do not hesitate to get the audio tour. It s super helpful. My visit would not have been as enjoyable without it.
I loved the Van Gogh museum. Beautifully laid out, walks you through the evolution of his work, style, and personal life. Includes some of his most colourful pieces and intriguing letters between him and his family. Very cool microscope exhibit lets you see the texture in his work.
*NB: Starry Night is at the Moma in NYC.
Just didn't like that they don't let you take photos. Besides that, there's nothing to say... it's Van Gogh!
Incredible! Do not miss this on your visit to Amsterdam.
Most enjoyable experience. Loved the colours and textures used in paintings.
Expensive, but easy to buy tickets. A good collection, friendly staff
Too crowded and the art was not displayed very good
Well organized, good structure and service. The audio (video) guide is the best.
A must see for anyone visiting Amsterdam. Along with the artwork, the museum really gives you insight into van Gogh's mind.
Another must when you visit the Dam get here early for a much better visit
Charming, extravagant, and impactful, this museum introducing the life saga of Van Gogh is the crown Jewel of the Amsterdam museum scene.
Great art nicely disposed to guide you through Van Gogh s life!
Good museum showing off Van Gogh's life and art. Very busy but didn't stop you being able to view the art easily.
Amazing place . A big important part of our art history , please visit and enjoy
Nice museum.Thanks. Also thanks to King Bikes where we rented the bikes.
