An amazing experience but I would say that despite signs saying no photos allowed, a lot of people were taking pictures regardless. Staff didn t seem to care.

Satisfying experience.. Well organized and categorized based on timeline and the type of paintings.. The self potraits, inspirations taken from other painters of his time, still lives, peasant lives etc.. we could visualize his life discovering his interest in painting, understanding the impact of colors, his passion, his struggles with his mental illness, his close relation with his brother etc,,, his I loved the fact of also displaying the works of other painters of his time.. not to miss, his drawings in his letters to his brother.. wonderful experience,. Worth it..
An incredible museum, with a vast number of pieces. There, Vincent's life can be seen and understood through the perspective of his art work.
I enjoyed especially the context in which each one of his artistic phases is presented. Based on his letter work and biography, the museum exposes perfectly his inspirations and desires for his art.
A truly profound experience.
Its a must for all art lovers. I am totally thrilled with this museum. Loved it!
Must visit
.. If your r fond of painting
Very cool museum, more focused on the life on Van Gogh and his progression as an artist
Absolutely amazing, spent hours here going from room to room mesmerised
An amazing experience. He was such a genius and that shows in his works. The broad brush strokes add a lovely texture to the paintings.
My favorite was the part where you observe the painting under the microscope & see gravels of sand.
Amazing. So much detail. I recommend getting the audio guide for an extra 5. It gives so much more information. Don't rush through the exhibit. Take your time to absorb it all in
Amazing museum with lotsa art pieces and things owned by Vincent and his family.. really enjoyed t. Better buy tickets online in advance.
Very expensive for being a museum. Not that impressive
You have to come to the van gogh Museum if you visit Amsterdam. It's incredible. There is a 5 minute film wich is so beautiful and you see some outtakes of films about van gogh.
I am not a huge fan of Vincent Van Gogh originally. To be fair, I am not even a fan of visiting museums before my trip with my girlfriend back in November 2019. I have heard of Van Gogh, but not more than that. The Van Gogh Museum tells you in details about his whole life, his spirits and motivations at the back of his drawings, his relationships between him and his best friends as well as the girl he loved. I would not say it is a place that will turn you from not interested in museum and arts into someone who loves it, but if you can give some time into it you will find a new world opening doors for you. Van Gogh drawings' social value is way higher than their arts' value and if you would like to spend some time in understanding the stories behind his drawings, you would definitely get rewarded for that. There is restaurants serving hot and chill food inside, but I wouldn't recommend that as it's kind of pricey. To be noticed, you need to book tickets in advance. Your booking time will last for maximum half an hour, and will expire if you are late for more than 30 minutes. The electronic tour guide is not free, but it's very helpful for your tour in the museum. A handy tips will be, bring your own earphone with cable, so that you can actually share the electronic tour guide with your friends and partner
Nice place, you need to plan in advance as there are only a limited number of tickets issued for the day. Couldn't go inside...
Good facilities. Free cloakroom and friendly staff. Exhibits well laid out. A shame that so many visitors ignored the advice that photos were not permitted and were obtrusive to those who were there to see the art work.
Millet' s exhibition was a treat. Although not one of his works "In the rice fields" was impressive and my overall favourite.
Get your tickets online, so you're not disappointed by going to the ticket wicket. I went at 9 am right when the museum opened and before it got busy. I took a few pictures of the self portraits before I was told photos are not allowed in the museum, so I took pictures from the staircase to give you an idea of how the museum is laid out. It's on 3 floors and runs through Vincent's life. You don't have to be an art expert to enjoy this museum, and definitely not to be missed.
Usually very busy almost hard to enjoy the art but worth a visit
Went 4 times already, luckily on my forth time the sun flower came back on exhibition. Worth visiting.
Van Gogh museum is a lovely place to learn about the history, art and life of Vincent van Gogh. It is a must visit place of you are in Amsterdam along with the Rijks museum.
I have never been that into art but after visiting this place I am hooked and want to learn more about different artists. The museum itself was absolutely beautiful. The cafe was surprisingly good as well. I highly suggest the vegan wrap.
The museum itself is great. There are floor plans and audio tours available in multiple languages. Usually a busy place during the day. I'm not a big fan of Van Gogh's painting style, but there were a few pieces that were impressive, by Van Gogh and other artists of his time as well. No photography is permitted, except for a few designated spots.
wonderful place, could actually get a glimpse into van gogh's life and legacy. the locker queue was kinda crowded but the wait wasn't long. collection was marvelous and almost complete but they didn't have the starry night
The museum itself is great, collection of works was thoughtfully put together, they also put a lot of work in creating the atmosphere, to reflect the feelings of Van Gogh living his life the way he did, with all the struggles included.
The artworks are amazing.
The museum is getting 4 out of 5 from me, because of all the crowd, and people with headphones listening to their stories about pictures and not minding other visitors AT ALL.
Left the museum being inspired by Van Gogh art, and frustrated because of a big amount of people being ignorant to other visitors.
I was disappointed by my visit to the Van Gogh Museum. The staff were rude and grumpy and the whole system to get into the museum is awful. The ticket scanners are just inside the doors and so if there is a line you are waiting outside. It was sunny on the day I went but if it were raining everyone would be soaked. And overall the museum experience is not worth it. Really over crowded and for 19 euro, you don't even get a free audio tour.
Wonderful place to visit , you can judge what he does as a collection ,or sometimes an individual picture just says it all , would highly recommend , something for everyone!!
Don't be afraid to bargain! And watch your pocketbook.....
Fan (atic) about Van Gogh. Start night is missing. But otherwise brilliant.
Busy but not too busy, and we arrived at 1145am. Definitely recommend getting the multimedia tour, as listening to a he snippets of info really help to give an informative view of Van Gogh s life. There is a free cloakroom by the entrance to leave your coats etc which is useful. Recommend bringing comfy walking shoes as you ll be in here for hours
Pre booked which was ace as we didn't need to queue. Fabulously designed museum. Used the audio tour guide headphones, very easy to use. Great experience.
Love the art but it was extremely overcrowded. Hard to enjoy anything
LOVED IT! We did this on a layover in Amsterdam. Definitely do the listening tour. It gave so much I sight and information.
Several (4;-) floors of artwork by Van Gogh and his contemporaries plus a temporary exhibition Van Gogh inspires through October 14. Great experience to see such a vast collection of works by this amazing artist. I enjoyed the visit. My son was a bit dissapointed by the Sunflowers... I guess he heard so much about that painting, he had built extreme expectations... Another thing is the discrepancy about picture taking in the museum... On the website I read Photography (without a flash or tripod) is only permitted at certain designated areas in the museum, such as in the Entrance Hall and by the so-called 'selfie walls'
In practice, everywhere you tried to take a photo, you were being stopped...
What can you say about the van Gogh museum it's spectacular
Nothing can beat the originals. For instance, I dint have high opinion about VG's "Sunflowers" judging by reproductions only. When I saw it here, Waw. what a masterpiece ! It isnt as flat as a pancake as on reproductions. You can spot severals layers of paint + the dominating yellow colour is as vivid as ... the yellownes of the Sun. Although using cameras inside isnot allowed inside I managed to take a shot of 'The Yellow Bedroom' painting. It's THE REAL McCOY (!) Admire
He's a genius. But the museum is not that big and very expensive. There's no way to pay in cash, only credit cards at machines or in the website.
This was absolutely incredible, the best part of Amsterdam and well worth a visit.
Nice museum but staff is rude . They do not allow you to bring a pocketbook that looks like a back pack . Was allowed in museum but not to see special exhibit . Manager refused to give her name says company policy does not allow. Very inconsistent and RUDE . Stay away . Refused refund as well Rude to Americans
Was ok. You can get very close to the paintings and the museum is heated in winter.
High entry fee of 19.00 per person and museum goes under maintenance every now and then without price reductions.
Cloakroom can get very busy and it can be hard to deposit or retrieve items even on non-busy days such as Monday.
No photos or bags allowed!
Location is close to food, other museums, and shops plus the built-in cafe is reasonably priced.
Loved this place. It's more than just a place to see Van Gogh's works. It's like traveling back in time to actually have a glimpse of the artist's life. Like what I said on my FB post, so many feels!
An amazing museum. You can be in and out in a couple hours, yet get a great overview of his life and work. Arranged in semi-chronological order, you can also see how his work changed with time. Buy tix in advance online!
Everything you ever wanted to know about Van Gogh and his crew is all over this museum. It looks you right in the eye.
Very, very nice museum with famous paintings and you are able to learn so much about Van Gogh's life.
Absolute must see in Amsterdam! Extremely coherent and comprehensive collection. Get your tickets online in advance as it gets insanely crowded, but again, that comes as no surprise when considering the quality of the museum. Last but not least, beautiful gift shop with a vast selection of items, including larger prints available for order online.
It was great! I had a great time. And the souvenir shop was really nice.
A must see with the audio tour. For kids be sure to have them do the treasure hunt with audio guide for kids. There's a reward at the end!
You can actually feel and experience Van Gogh's life and work through this wonderful museum. The story of his life is very unique and emotional and his paintings and talent are extraordinary. No photos as they are not allowed. Very sad that some people do not follow this simple request.
Spent three hours here gawking at the work of a broken soul and genius.
You have to be dedicated and go through it. There is about 5 pieces that really interested me but besides it is a visit worth doing once you are in amsterdam.
The museum is amazing !! Even if they don t have the most popular ones such as The Starry Night, or Road with Cypress and Star, they still have hundreds of his work.
Everything was very well staged, with a lot of clear details about his life, the meaning/history of his art.
Masks weren t wore by the staff, and only by few visitors.
Huge collection with nice themes for each floor. Unfortunately but understandably very busy. Can be frustrating trying to manoeuvre around doddling tourists. Unfortunately a little samey seeing so much of only one artist's work. This is perhaps more a personal problem of mine than a critique of the museum.

While the collection of Van Goghs this museum is significant, it is not what is most impressive. The museum is about the painter's life and each floor carries the visitor through his professional career and personal tumultuous life.
The gift store is a must visit.
Amazing to get to know the artist. The museum goes through his life. Well worth seeing.
Great museum displaying a nice variation of can Gogh pieces. Their temporary "sunflowers" exhibit was amazing. Although lots of pieces weren't present. So id recommend researching if they have a certain piece on display is there's something specific you want to see.
If you like (or not) art and you re in Amsterdam this is one of the first places you need to visit.
Depicts the life of a marvel painter. P.s.-Starry nights cant be viewed here, its in New york.
If you are a museum person then this place is for you. The outside of the museum itself is a piece of art and so appreciable for it's architecture.
Very impressive works of art. Buy tickets in advance. Can get crowded.do not pass up going
Be sure to buy the Skip-The-Line ticket in advance.
The museum tells you the entire lifetime of Vincent and part of his family. The paintings are all arranged chronologically, get an audio guide at the entrance is the best way to appreciate how great and sad Vincent's life was.
There are two gift shops inside, one inside on the top floor and one outside. The one inside has a wider collection of books.
too dear and tourists are treated unfairly..they can accommodate a dog but wont allow you to bring in a bottle of water r bag into museum. disgrace that they charge you extra to use audio guide compared to other museums. staff were unhelpful and seemed more interested in looking after themselves. very disappointing
What explains how wildly popular this place is? It is wonderful to see the development of this artist's vision from his earliest "peasant" paintings to his last year, when his genius and pathos are full blown.
Buy tickets online first! If you forget, find the WiFi at McDonald's and buy them through your phone. Makes entry painless and the museum is spectacular. Saw all of the famous Van Gogh I have missed at other exhibits. No photos, though!
Great museum and you will get to know the artist personally.
Van Gogh is a must see when visiting Amsterdam! Learning about the master, seeing the evolution of his craft as he changed his style, appreciating his commitment to his work, and more. Expect to spend 3-4 hours at this museum. Wonderful, well worth a visit for people who appreciate historical artworks, in awesome, modern surroundings.
You should buy your ticket on the website... It s better early in the morning because there are a lot of tourists.
Not good with kids. if you like art, go. if not, dont. i personally hated this place and the employees were mean
Van Gogh greeted us at the door with a straw hat on, shame as in my opinion, 'self portrait with pipe', was a much better look for him.
Nice to be here but please visit early in the morning time. Otherwise it would be very busy. You don't have time to read most of explanation.
Brilliant! Audio tour was fantastic, organised tour times well done as not too crowded
When it came time to pick up our bags and coats from the cloak room the crowds were disorganized and lines unacceptably long. Furthermore, the experience was ruined by audio guide guests standing and crowding in front of paintings for ten minutes, not even looking at the paintings just standing in front of it looking at the audio guide and preventing other people from viewing. No staff managed this issue on site, lacks some organization come with a lot
Of patience, the works are of course great but the disorganization of viewing and queuing needs improvement.
Be aware that the museum closes at 17:00. Or at least when we visited it - end of March.
An incredible experience, and amazing museum that guides you through the life and work of Vincent van gogh.
Great museum but very crowded. We were there last Sunday, there were lots and lots of visitors.. Work of Van Gogh is definitely worth to see..
One of my favourite museums in the world. The audio guide was definitely worth it. Beautiful paintings, a definite must see while in Amsterdam. We spent around 3 hours to see everything. Free cloak room to keep coats and bags.
How can you visit the Netherlands and not take in the B=Van Gogh museum. Its a large collection of his work as well as a through telling of his life story. Set in the museumplien park surrounded by other must see museums. Forget the ticket price and go for it. Its something a true lover of art and Van Gogh can not miss. The Museum is surrounded by vendors selling knock off works by the great artist.
Incredible experience. It s a must when in Amsterdam!
Beautiful presentation of Van Gogh's work. Go as early as possible it gets very busy
Really enjoyed my experience in the museum. I went alone and dint know too much about Van Gogh. Felt like I walked in not knowing a lot about his art or life and walked out with a better understanding of both. Great collection of works and not too overwhelming. Highlight of my trip and would recommend a visit.
A must see, I think everyone should visit, it was amazing
Nice job showcasing Vincent s art and his train wreck of a life. We were able to see the Sunflowers my personal favourite.
Museum is great but the stuff is highly unprofessional.
Very enjoyable experience. Get the audio tour, it's a small cost but adds a great deal to what you'll get out of your time here.
Well laid out and saw sunflowers for first time in the flesh life ambition
Buy the ticket online to secure the time for visit. Easy sold out for following10 days. Besides Van Gogh collections, good history of his family and friends.
A must see museum. Be awear that you cannot take photos inside.
Great location, walkable distance from the centre. The museum itself is very spacious, you won't have trouble squeezing past other people while admiring all the paintings. You'll need at least 1.5 hours to really see everything.
You have to visit this museum for sure. You can buy tickets online on a specific date and choose a time slot in advance. I would also recommend to take audioguide.
What a pity that his genius was not recognized during his lifetime... pity he couldn't enjoy the glory and admiration of the society... that would probably keep him alive...
