Amazing place, leave yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the experience. There is a small coffee and muffin place in the basement which will help keep you going. So many beautiful things to see but limited chance to photograph, though you still get those who try ...with the flash on.

I had an open wound on my left knee when I was there and so I was walking with a cane. A museum staff noticed me, thought that I must have been in need. So, she kindly led me the way to take the elevator. What a sweet and thoughtful thing she did!

Btw, the tuna sandwich I ordered wasn t good... personally thinking.

Van Gogh Baby. No starry night. But van Gogh baby. Can't get over the amount of people taking photos of the art. There online you can buy better versions. What are you doing . Literally every painting. Click click click. Not the galleries fault.

Great place to learn the biography of Van Gogh, but we were disappointed to find out that most of the well known paintings are everywhere but Amsterdam: in New York, London, Paris, Japan... I recommend you to book tickets in advance by internet to avoid a crowd (the wind was so freezing outside in March!!)

The Van Gogh museum was absolutely beautiful and informative and such a pleasure to walk through and learn about the life and works of Van Gogh. I went on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all. We got through the line in less than 5 minutes, with preprinted tickets, but the ticket line was not long at all either. My advice is...go on a Sunday if you can!

nicely decorated museum. It has a big collection of van Gogh. but not all the most important painting are here. building is very modern. you have to make a reservation since it is very crowded.

We arrived for the 2 pm tour block, we purchased tickets online so we did not have to wait in the queue once we showed up. I really like the way they separate the floors into different phases of his life, it was pretty fascinating seeing not only his paintings but also his letters sent to his brother, his pencils, charcoals, paints and paint palette.

The crowd was pretty big by the time we reached the top floor, by that time the kids were ready to leave and we were getting hungry. I would like to go back again without our kids and during a slower time block.

One niece things for the kids was that they provide an activity sheet for them to fill out using clues and questions about the works of art.

Easy to get tickets from their application, staff is efficient and made sure people waiting outside get all information they need. The collections is very well presented, I really enjoyed my moment is this museum.

My husband and I had the most amazing time at the Van Gogh museum! It is truly magnificent and we learned so much more than we ever knew about Van Gogh! We decided to buy the audio tour that went along with many of the paintings and we were so glad we did! It provided excellent explanations of the images and style of painting and at what point in Van Gogh's life it was painted during. We didn't think we'd listen to it all but we did!

You cannot take pictures throughout most of the museum, there was an interactive exhibit where you could, but otherwise, it was great to experience his works without peoples phones snapping away!

Highly recommend!

Beautiful museum. The vast collection of Vincent's art is amazing to see. Also artists that inspired vincent or were inspired by vincent are on show. The lunchroom (le tambourin) is pricy but very good quality. The exhebition wing had 2 exhebitions on show whilst I was there, i very much recommended visiting them! (The current ones are till september 1st 2019).
Ticketing to the Van Gogh museum is recommended online, you have to choose a timeslot.

You can have a nice view through a talented painter here. Each section in this museum is arranged properly even though they are a bit crowded. It is better to have a reservation from website and recommend to get the autoguide.
Notice that you cannot take pictures inside.

Very cool exposition. Everything very well laid out and especially with the audioguide, it's very interesting as you're not 'aimlessly' walking through the museum, but you're learning about van Goghs life and about his paintings. Would definitely recommend using the audioguide as it's much more interesting!

This was one of my favorite stops in Amsterdam during my visit. Literally hundreds of examples of Van High s work on display. No photos are allowed. The tour is awesome but make sure to allow lots of time as there is a lot to see.

We loved every minute, definitely get the audio guide as it really makes the trip special. They also have some originals by Monet which was amazing, my two favourite artists work in one building. FANTASTIC

I can't speak too highly of this museum. It guides you through the life and career of Van Gogh who only began painting at 28. Many of his major works are here such as Sunflowers but it is the way the exhibition takes you through his life and the process that is impressive. There is a decent restaurant and gift shop. The audio tour is essential.

Van Gogh museum is a must see when visiting Amsterdam for random people and art lovers particularly, situated near several museums like the Rijksmuseum and the iconic "I Amsterdam" sign, and rich with its paintings and Vincent van Gogh's masterpieces

Beautiful exhibition on artist (self-)portraits, rich, diverse and interesting. The accompanying texts however don't match the level: here and there even rather childish, therefore the star-subtraction.

It s a nice place for art aficionados who have a particular liking for Van Gogh and his work. Most of the work on display is his masterpieces regarding the peasant workers for whom he had the most admiration for. You can help yourself with those small gadgets for audio descriptions, that they provide inside the museum which you can take while touring. Best thing before going there is to buy tickets online so that you don t have to wait in long queues to buy the ticket. Then to enter and then there is another one where you have to deposit your backpacks etc as they are not allowed inside. So be smart and save time.

The museum is dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) provides visitors opportunity to learn about the life of Holland's most famous Post-Impressionist artist.

You will find the Van Gogh Museum at Museumplein. Opening times are 9am to 6pm daily with extended hours to 9pm on Friday night. Ticket price is 19 per adult and can be purchased online prior to your visit. This is a good idea as they allow limited number of visitors into the museum each hour often resulting in very long queues to purchase tickets at the museum.

The museum is laid out in a chronological manner, starting with Vincent's background, childhood and life before his career as a painter. However, most of the exhibits concentrate on his years as an artist and particularly the time leading up to his death, when Van Gogh's mental deterioration seemed to take control of his life and lead to his demise.

Throughout the museum Van Gogh paintings are on display, allowing visitors to see how Vincent's artistic style changed and evolved throughout his years of an artist. Unfortunately no photography is allowed so just enjoy viewing the many works during your visit. There are detailed art books in the gift shop if you want to take home images of what you have seen in the museum.

In the end, this is a must-see attraction for those who have interest in Van Gogh. However, the high entry price should be considered by those less keen on art and art history. Related, those with limited time in Amsterdam may actually prefer to prioritise and visit the Rijksmuseum instead. There are a fair number of Van Gogh paintings on display there as well as a vast collection of important works by fellow Dutch Old Masters for which you may have interest.

Book online and be on time. Give yourself a few hours to enjoy all the beautiful artwork. Pay the extra euros for the audio tour to get a better understanding of most art pieces, and the life of Van Gogh. A camera is not really necessary since you're not a allowed to take pictures of almost anything. Don't look like a dummy when you get caught trying to sneak a picture. Just enjoy what is in front of you.
If you're like me, and traveled from another side of the world, buy something from the gift shop. Sure things are pricey, but how often can you visit the Van Gogh museum?

Great Museum layout but way too many pp to be able to spend time to get close to the painting. Never seen the writing of this amazing artist. People meant to spend time on keyboard these days and miss the chance to really write letter to express. Just like Vincent did with his brother. Felt the love and the attachment between the two. Cloakroom service was great.

How can you be in Amsterdam and not see the Van Gogh Museum? Amazing collection, wonderfully curated and inspiring. Not only do you learn about the art, but really discover Van Gogh s life, struggles, accomplishments and feelings. Beautiful works of art.

The Japan exhibition with prints and paintings that inspired Van Gogh was fantastic. Short run but if you get a chance to see it, be there. A truly inspiring visit that makes your inner Van Gogh want to not mutilate yourself for another while.

Well I didn't realize that the van Gogh museum didn't own "a starry night" so.if you're hoping to see it don't get your hopes up lol. But overall it was a great experience. It's over 200 pieces of Van Gogh' s work including a bunch of his self portraits. You have yo purchase tickets in advance or at the kiosk as they're times tickets.

I never knew it was a dream of mine to visit this museum until i was in it. The extra 5 euros was worth paying to get the multimedia package, though i recommend bringing your own headphones (helps with the crowd noise too). Wished it was a bit more interactive otherwise, it was amazing. The stores are actually decent priced so if you want anything from there, best buy it in the museum before you spend double the price outside. Also there was a fella playing an interesting instrument outside that was absolutely beautiful and fitting to Van Gogh's art and just transported me.

This museum combine in a smart way rooms with paintings, history of Van Gogh and painting technique and culture; making it very accessible for young people or people afraid of museums. They have temporary exhibitions, plenty of lifts or escalators for accessibility, a small shop with all the variations of goodies with Van Gogh paintings on it you can think of, and a cloackroom. If you have a museumkaart you even cut the queue.

Pre-booked tickets online before you go, I went first thing Sunday and there was no queue to get in which is unusual. This is not a museum that can be rushed! Entrance gets you in to the special exhibitions. Cafe a little expensive but good quality food and drink.

An amazing collection of Van Gogh. By far the best in the world in quantity and quality - the admission is worth it for that alone.
It's not the best set up though: lighting issues on the ground floor (reflections make it hard to see the art) and the text is so small it's hard to read if you're not right in front of it.
But all minor qualms: just enjoy the beauty.

These pictures don't do the master justice. The pieces are incredible, and the curators honor Van Gogh's memory by weaving his work together in a rich tapestry. I'd highly recommend you Gogh when you're in Amsterdam!

Wonderful museum. It's well worth the extra 5 Euros for the audio guide to help explain the stories behind the beautiful paintings, which also gives you more time to enjoy the paintings themselves. Spent about 2.5 hours going through the whole museum and gift shop.

The museum is great, it's packed, people love van Gogh. Just wanted to say a couple of things: first, tickets can only be purchased online. What about people who are not computer literate? They are around and there are quite a few of them. Secondly, they need a good English proofreading specialist.

Great museum!! My favorite artist so I am biased in that regards. Can be really busy due to the popularity of Van Gogh; which is distracting, and can take away from the experience as there are so many people. However, it is amazing to see how many people love Van Gogh, and leaves you feeling good that someone so misunderstood in his time is so appreciated now.

An exquisite experience. Spread out across three floors, it details Van Gogh's life from birth to death, with all his struggles.
It's very sensitively and thoughtfully laid out, and the artwork is incredible, but that goes without saying.
An easy recommendation for anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Nice museum devoted to great artist. They even have a challenge for kids that keep them engaged. Unfortunately photos are not permitted inside outside of designated areas.

Consider booking it online to skip the line. Unfortunately if you have 'I amsterdam' card you will need to queue in the large line to get the actual ticket and if it's raining - you will be miserable.

Tip - there is another cloakroom next to the shop in the Museum wing that is not as busy as cloakrooms downstairs.

A delicately distilled journey through its eponym's career and artistic context, intimate and rich. Pay attention to the self-portraits. A couple of them show keenly and honestly the artist's longing. It's a shame that one isn't allowed to take pictures, as a number of poignant biographia-painting pairings have survived only as mental impressions and brief annotations in my notebook.

Lovely museum with lots of information on Van Gogh and his family. Unfortunately most of the paintings are under glass which slightly ruins the effect. I often found myself fighting the glare of the gallery lights. This also made it slightly harder to see the wonderful paint texture.

We had a great experience here, there were a few pieces of art not mentioned or displayed. Some areas were a bit congested with people but over all some good artwork with lots of facts and interesting pieces. Worth the visit if you're interested in Van Gogh's work or artwork in general.

Pretty boring and usually really busy. It's nigh impossible to really take your time looking at the paintings as the spaces are too cramped. The paintings are alright, but I'd recommend going to the Rijksmuseum instead, if you have to choose one or the other.

Lovely mix with some other artists and influenced/influencers. I was actually worn out by so much great art by the end. Van Gogh varied so much in his style and technique which I was not aware of as he learnt his style. A must see in Amsterdam.
