This is one of my favorite art museums! Instead of showing a bunch of different works from lots of different artists, this one (as given by the name) focuses on a single artist, with some works from related painters. Best of all, they have lots of writing on the walls about the context by which one can view each painting. The paintings are presented in an order that makes sense, and during your visit, you feel like you are walking through Van Gogh's life and really understanding it. Highly recommend. Remember to book a time in advance!

A beautiful tribute to Van Gogh. This museum displays Van Gogh s progression as an artist while situating his life in a historical context. His inspiration for each moment of his life is well detailed and explained in the museum, which has the floors set in a chronological manner. The museum can get very busy, so must be avoided by people who cannot stand crowds. Highly recommend this museum to any fan of Impressionism as there are also other paintings from some of Van Gogh s notable contemporaries.

Many amazing paintings and the life of Van Gogh told. No pictures are allowed in the museum once you get to the paintings. There is people to take your coats and bags to you don't have to carry them around.

Lovely museum. Spent full 3 hours to thoroughly look at all the works. The audio guide died in the middle though, which sucked. This place is so crowded though they are limiting viewers by every half an hour-though not sure if this is really working because it was really, really, really crowded. Make sure to wear comfy shoes.

Very informative and excellent exhibition regarding Vincent van Gogh, his life, his motives and brilliant paintings. Some of the most valuable paintings of this planet!!

The one of the top museums in Amsterdam. Great collection of art, good audio guide. Be prepared for huge queue at the entrance. I recommend to come earlier before 10 AM to a avoid crowds. Walking distance to other attractions and museums like Rijksmuseum. The perfect connection with the city center by tram. Enjoy your visit there!

In fact, I went to Amsterdam to visit this museum. The museum is wonderful and you should plan at least a few hours. They should forbid people from taking pictures inside especially selfies! The collection is huge, well organised and maintained. It s not just a gallery - it tells you the story of Van Gogh. You ll see also lots of paintings of his friends. Audio guide is available and buying tickets online is a must!

Admission costs 19 eur, which is quite high, but you get actually two expositions instead of one, first is actual Van Gough and second is more modern painters there is an entrance stair right in front of cloakroom. Also there is no star night painting in this exposition, which is sad. But sunflowers are there!

Easy to book, must book a timeslot prior, we didnt but there are machines to do so outside as well as being easily able to do it on your phone. The set out inside is a timeline, well put together and very interesting. Cafe and shop inside too

Beautiful artwork of Van Gogh and of his friends and artists inspired by him. So much information about his life and family. I found the excerpts from letters he wrote to friends and family interesting. So much to see. Clean interior and restrooms. Nice little snack and coffee area after you enter. Wonderful gift shops. I wanted to buy everything! Found some lovely sunflower reprints on items for my new house!

First step - get your tickets online. Then, enjoy this awesome museum. My heart hurt when I left. What an amazingly talented individual with such incredibly heartbreaking mental health issues. Kudos to his brother, sister-in-law and nephew for being champions of his artwork once he passed. Very informative museum!

Beautiful art but SO busy even at 9.15am! The hordes of people using the audioguides meant that the first two floors were jam packed so we ended up heading upstairs first and viewing the museum in reverse.

Beautiful, an absolute recommendation when you re in Amsterdam! You can easily spend 2-3 hours here and I really recommend taking the audio tour, it s very informative. You can only buy your tickets online so be aware of that!

Not bad. Worth a visit but it's missing many of his most famous pieces. It easily the largest collection of self portraits. Beautiful works and some of his friends and works he admired. Explanations on techniques and how van Gogh progressed and evolved. Well put together. Go if you love art and culture, don't go if you want to see if most famous works.

Excellent museum - good selection of paintings and numbers controlled so you get a good look. What really makes the difference though, is the multimedia guide (extra cost but worth it). I'd recommend this place to art officianados and those with even a casual interest in Van Gogh.

The Van Gogh Museum was a wonderful experience. I particularly like how the museum portrayed his life, who he influences as well as who influenced him. It's a good idea to get there early, take an unconventional approach and start at the top floor and work yourself down. Bring some extra cash with you as there are many affordable goods for sale. This was truely a great experience.

Taking picture is not allowed inside so I only shared the wall. Be there early before it gets busy. You can buy the tickets online or there is machines in the entrance. I was there around 9:30, not busy. (December, 2019)

It was an ok museum. It's not entirely his work, it also includes some people that did similar work but it was pretty interesting and worth the visit. You could tell by his later work how he was losing his mind more and more. You can probably get through the museum in 2-3 hours easy.

If you love art, this is the right place for you. You can almost feel Van Gogh by your side. If you love this artist you might spend even 3 hours looking at every work (as I did). Absolutely worth the visit

If you are an art lover or a photographer, you must visit this museum. It has amazing collections by Vincent Van Gogh and some of the best other artists. It's worth every penny. Yes, please don't forget to take a multimedia guide along. And book the ticket in advance so that you don't have to wait in a large queue.

A beautiful museum dedicated to Van Gogh. It has four floors to it and host many of his works. The museum takes you through his life and paints a very good picture of how he grew into the painter everyone knows and loves.

Wonderful museum on three floors, plus a temporary exhibition (on hockney&van gogh when I was there). It's structured in the roughly 3 parts of Van Goghs Life&Work, always accompanied by info about his surroundings, friends and thoughts at the time. Of course the Art is gorgeous, and it's lovely to see the chronological development. Excellent experience.

I was unsure if I d be able to purchase tickets or not within the same day. The Van Gogh website was sold out and when we walked to the information center near the entrance of the museum, there were no tellers. The machines to the left of the information booth also said tickets were sold out.

Before giving up, I double checked the website and I was able to purchase two tickets for the same day.

The museum was beautifully laid out and we re so glad we were able to see the exhibit!

It s better to buy tickets in advance. We had to wait for around 2 hours because there were no tickets available for earlier entrance. The museum itself is interesting, although some rooms seemed too dark to see the paintings properly.

One of the best place to visit in Amsterdam, the museum for excellence.
Some online guide said that you need just two hours to visit it, but you need more time because inside there is Van Gogh collection, Van Gogh intuitions, Van Gogh ideas, Van Gogh life.
Book the ticket on the website.

A must for any Van Gogh fan. Beautifully displayed paintings. Lots of information about the more famous ones. Would recommend using the multimedia guide. It gives lots of extra info. Be prepared to spend a few hours there if you want to get the most out of it. The food in the the restaurant is very nice too.

Well designed for crowds - paintings are widely spaced. The multi-medi guide is a steal for 5 euro; it definitely enhances the experience.

Cafeteria is lovely; simple fare, fresh and good

Only because I'm an art geek, and I really missed seeing the starry night which is in the New York museum. The displays are great, but the wait to get in is not. Would definitely suggest buying the tickets online in advance before visiting. The dream display was very different and should not be missed. Also didn't really like the fact that the security there took only brown skinned people aside to check them, found that very offensive and think that really needs to change.

(I went on Tuesday when the museum is open until later)
At times a little too busy, but well organised with many paintings by Van Gogh obviously but also some other important artists and a great experience in general with interactive microscopes to watch the paint and more. Felt like it was a little smaller than expected, maybe because the crowd, mostly in front of the most famous paintings might take away from the beauty of watching a painting and trying to catch the message the painter was trying to send.

Supremely professional presentation of the works of Van Gogh, of who influenced him, and of his life. I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the collection and learning more of his history. It's a definite "must recommend" from me!

Great collection, there is a lot of great things to see and learn about Van Gogh, modern gallery space very kind stuff
I lost my jacket, they founded it on who knows which floor and bring it back to me And it was Christmas time and milions of visitors that day, thanks

Beautiful architecture, located next to a beautiful park. The pieces are laid out in a way that tells a story rather than walking aimlessly. Tickets can be difficult to get when you want so be sure to plan ahead.

Amazing collection of Van Gogh originals, including both world renowned masterpieces and art that I had never even seen before.
FYI: Visitors are not allowed to take photos of any of the paintings (for obvious reasons), but I still saw numerous tourists blatantly disregarding this rule and getting yelled at by the museum staff. There are several social media sites on each floor where you are allowed to take photos, but they don t feature actual Van Goghs. There s also a replica Sunflowers painting in the gift shop that you can touch and feel, which was pretty funny and made a good photo op.

We ordered ticket online ahead of time so we did not have to wait for tickets. Although the masterpieces are amazing, I feel like there are way too many people, crowd and noise and we did not get to enjoy the pieces with enough space. What a pity.

Needless to say the Van Gogh collection is awesome, but on top of that great exhibitions from time to time (e.g. Van Gogh's influence on Hockney). Ticket reservations have to be made at leat one week in advance because of the overloaded schedule. It makes entering the museam a lot easier, but the queue has shifted to the cloakroom instead.

Such a joy to experience. Some museums can be boring. This is not one of them. Highly recommend getting the audio guide since it provides more context and makes looking at the paintings more interesting. Really cool gift shop with a large variety of things you can purchase ranging from very cheap to expensive. There is something for everyone. Book tickets in advance since they sell out quickly. I used the app Get Your Guide to book all my Amsterdam activities but you can use other methods too.

Very contemporary building packed full of Van Gogh s work, plus that of many other artists. The collection is spread over multiple floors and gives an insight into his life and the events that inspired his work. There is also a lot of background information about his friends and family. We bought digital tickets online which meant we could go straight to the entrance and scan them on our phone, I would recommend this as it s much quicker. Remember that backpacks are not allowed in, but there is a free cloakroom.

The Van Gogh museum is an amazing experience and a must see if you're in Amsterdam! I recommend booking tickets in advance as it is usually very busy, and often booked up if you arrive and try to book tickets on the day. It's also quite crowded so I would recommend booking for a time that's less busy (the website gives indications of how busy it is at certain times, we went at 10am and it was much quieter!) It takes around 2-3 hours to walk around all four floors and be warned, there are a lot of stairs to climb! There are also lifts and the museum is very accessible. The galleries give a really good insight into Van Gogh's personal life and the evolution of his painting style. My one small issue was that we decided not to take the audio tour as we prefer to wander around museums at our own pace, and it seemed that everyone with an audio tour would bunch up in corners! The galleries aren't especially clearly organised by era, and I think the audio tour might make the order of which gallery to go to next a little clearer.

My wife and I big fans of Van Gogh. So this visit was a real treat. Spent good time. We were lucky to have bought tickets online as the queue was long. But be careful to arrive at the appointed time as otherwise ticket may turn invalid. Another must for Amsterdam
