Such a privilege to see works of such beauty and human expression.
There are a big collection of Van Gogh artwork and a selection of other artists at this museum.. ts easly accessible with tram and there are also other facilities arround like "i amsterdam" sign, Modern art museum,Rijk Museum,Diamant Museum and a big green park where you can enjoy the good weather if any...The area is also called "Museumplein" as plenty museums are arround..
Rijksmuseum 1, Van Gogh 2... It is great that they put them together.
It was great. They have beautiful paintings and audioguides. You can also buy a lot of cool stuff there.
Well curated museum with a great collection of Van Gogh's work. Spent a good couple of hours here. Had a fantastic time and would recommend this to anyone.
Very detailed and well laid out exhibits. Would definitely recommend a visit if in Amsterdam.
Amazing artwork but I loved the multimedia
presentation much more.
nice audio tour
very good exhibit.
It has a vast collection of the work of the artist. They also explain his early life until he started drawing and painting. Highly recommended!
Interesting selection of pictures giving insite to his influences and timeline.
I really enjoyed my visit here, the park the museum is located in is great too. The exhibits were easy to navigate and there is a lot to see and hear. I thought it was really special to see and hear the letters along with their associated art.
Would definitely recommend getting your ticket ahead of time online (it's easy and quick and you won't have to wait in line). Which will help you get to the coat check line is way faster. And trust me, you need it. Especially if you're going in the winter and you are wearing a thick jacket. The museum itself was lovely though I wish that they drew more attention to the special exhibits and made it easier to find (the entrance was separate from the permanent exhibit and beside a gift shop so I got distracted ). I spent about 2.5 hours here and got to see everything without feeling rushed
The museum's building and Vanv Gogh dreams part of the museum are beautiful even if Van Gogh is not your favorite but if he is your favorite you can visit Van Gogh's house and his drawing room in Tilburg. Better to book the ticket online. The Van Gogh museum is one of many Dutch museums dedicated to the artist in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the Pijp area, close to the Rijks Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Heineken Experience, and the Concertgebouw.
Photos seemed to not be allowed. They have the collection online if you want to look later. The special exhibit I saw was Japanese prints' influence on his work. Museum overall can take a few hours to see. Good if you like Van Gogh, countryside, portraits, still life, etc.
Outstanding collection of master art. Clever gift shop selection. Need to book entry in advance.
It's a must visit if you're in Amsterdam. Online booking is recommended because the queues get super massive during busy hours. I would also recommend the audio guide for an additional 5 , it compliments the whole experience. (Please note that you won't find one of Van Gough's most notable paintings - "Starry Night" in this museum because it is in MoMA, New York)
Beautiful exhibit with 4 levels. Food and gift store are al located inside. There is designated areas for photos. If you are wearing a bacpack or big bag you have to check your stuff in (free of charge).
What a lovely museum! Wonderfully curated, this was a must-see in Amsterdam!
Fabulous paintings! Well laid out showing Van Gogh's life through his work and how his family persisted to create his legacy and the museum. Only negative is while they don't allow visitors to take luggage in (understandably) they don't have storage so the staff turned us away. We managed to find storage at another museum ourselves. They could at least have an agreement with another museum for storage. The museum was worth the effort to get in!
Fascinating experience. An amazing opportunity to know better about the life of this great artist.
Discover the tragic life of a perfectionist, as you view the amazing art of Van Gogh. Van Gogh's life history unfolds as you travel through time with the progression of his spectacular paintings. The narrative of Van Gogh's unforgettable life is written throughout the museum, along with his paintings. A valuable way to discover the history of a brilliant, revolutionary artist.
It's beautiful, but the price is too high for this number of exhibits.
Beautiful collection of van Gogh art
They do not all cameras which is sad. They do sell nice prints in the gift shopped and you can get it framed. Or go online and get gifts. Worth every penny and a must see as his art goes for $100 million each.
Book online in advance because they have time slots.
I certainly learnt a lot about van gogh and his friends history. Got to admire his original work, see the letters he wrote, look at what art supplies he liked going to the city to buy.
Sadly, I did not get to see starry night.
The museum sells many creative merch using his art as patterns.
Greatest space that could be used for so much better things.
My all time favourite Artist. Love the place! A bit suffocated due to being rushy.
So much too see! The museum shop and bookstores are also nice, I got a few art books from there. Now that there s limited number of visitor per day, the museum is not as crowded. However, I still think the number should be limited to lower. It s still difficult to see in some popular areas.
beatiful and interesting museum de Van Gogh; easy location
Really cool to see the history in person! Would recommend going to see it.
My friend and I spent three hours here just visiting the paintings highlighted in the audio guide. We could have easily spent longer. Spend the extra money for the guide!
It is annoying that because Starry Night isn't kept here they barely mention it.
On the other hand, you really learn the life story of Van Gogh from start to finish, and the stories behind his paintings. They also have a cool sunflower portrait set up for people to feel and smell what the painting would have been like.
Really nice place. You should prefer to buy the tickets online and go in schedule time. It makes you life easy when arrivng there.
Yes its expensive but worth every penny, and for a three hour visit it works out at 6 euros an hour. Fantastic display of the great man's work. Well laid out....English and Dutch descriptions on the walls. The ability to hear the thoughts and words of Van Gogh with excerpts from his letters to his brother Theo.
Surprisingly the museum shop was extremely well priced considering where it was.
Very nice and insightful museum with a huge collection of the artist since his early days till his last. Including a cool way to portray his personality and history
The Van Gogh Museum did a great job walking through Van Gogh's journey. They told the story very well. I was mesmerized by the art work displayed and learned a lot about his path to mastery. I'd highly recommend this experience.
As you might expect, very worth visiting!
One of the most attractive museums, if you have the opportunity, pay a visit!
This is a great museum that takes you through Van Goghs life as an artist, step by step. I found out new things and his most iconic paintings look even more astonishing in real life.
Would recommand taking the multimedia guide, as it tells a bit more.
Ok seriously what was that? We paid 18 and there was some colorful squiggly lines.
Worst of all? They didn't even have his ear on display.
Would not return.
Definitely a place you must visit while in Amsterdam. Beautiful collection of paintings also interesting lesson about great master. I would advice to book your tickets online to skip the queues.
Wonderful. I enjoyed learning about Van Goghs life though his art, is one of the best museums I ve ever visited
One of the coolest museums in AMS. It will take you about 3 hours to fully enjoy it.
For all impressionists lovers it's a must. Mainly van Gogh. I would love to see more Pissarro s and Monet s though
Like the museum very much...love Vincent but I wish the museum didn't have such a modern feeling to it. It would have been nice with a more Victorian atmosphere and French Cafe music playing instead of contemporary rock music.
Amazing to see such famous painting in such fantastic surroundings
Very logical and easy to understand structure even though I would definitely recommend the audio tour. Some amazing works with lots of context behind them.
Excellent experience. Highly recommend the headset to explain and get an insight into Van Gogh thinking.
Beautiful museum with great collection, not only with paintings by Van Gogh but also his contemporaries.
Encompassing paintings from very early on untill the end provides a clear view on his evolution as an artist.
Combine that with a large collection of personal items and letters and you get a bit of insight into Vincent as a person as well.
Order on-line tickets in advance to avoid long waiting lines. Try to come very early as the museum can get very busy.
World class! Must see and make sure to get in early
Was very busy when I was there (a Tuesday around 14:00) with tourists / schoolkids. Large queue in front of cloakroom. Also the main Van Gogh expo is chronologically ordered to give you an overview of his life, in such way that it consists not only of paintings of Van Gogh, but also of his letters, pictures of his family, works of his contemporaries and influencers etc. This is nice I guess if you do not know much about his life, but I already knew much about it, and just wanted to see the paintings, in which case you have to skip a lot.
Amazing museum with an immense art collection of not only Vincent himself, but also other artists that inspired him or had a role in his life. This collection guides you through different stages of Van Goghs life. Real recommendation!
Very well made. You learn a lot about Van Gogh's life and his painting style. It's in the same time, very inspirational and very sad. I can totally see why this museum is one of the main places to visit in Amsterdam. Book your tickets in advance because everything is full all the time.
A LOT of beautiful pictures.
It takes about 3 hours.
Buy your tickets online.
Buy the media tour, it is worthy.
It s about 25 per person.
There is a free storage space inside.
We visit the museum for painting classes on Saturday for children. Very inspirational! Thank you Miriam!
This place is amazing. You can see the whole artwork of van coach's life. His complete life and explore all the magic of his mind. The museum us usually very busy and you need to book online to avoid ques. Photography is not allowed and allow some extra time to sit in the museum to admire this magnificent artist
Great exposition of Van Gogh s work. Can t take pictures inside, very strict policy.
You need to buy tickets online before you go. The fact that they limit numbers makes it a great experience because there aren't too may people there. A wonderful gallery with fabulous paintings.
Wonderful collection of Van Gogh's masterpieces and less known pieces. Prepare to easily spend 3-4 hours or more if you want to really read the information and absorb the art. Highly recommended.
The museum is impressive, a huge collection of masterpieces from van Gogh and many of his colleagues/friends painters.
The Structure is nice and rather well organised. However, there are continuous messages on the speakers advertising mini tours or events during the opening time of the museum, including the price of each mini-tour/event. These are really annoying, considering the general public needs silence to ficus on the paintings. It would be definitely better to put led panels at the entrance of each room in order to advertise such events.
Photography is not permitted, however the control is poor and many many visitors take pictures with smartphones up to the moment when one of the surveillance officers wakes up and approaches the improvised photographer in rough way. This needs to be improved.
Great to see so many of his letters and paintings. Many of his masterpieces are in other museums.
Huge collection of this historic artist and very well presented. You cannot take pictures inside and cannot enter with bags. You can leave your staff in a desk right next to the escalator that takes you to the paintings of Van Gogh for free. If you are planning to visit the museum you have to book a reservation online before hand. It costed me 18 euros
Truly one of the most beautiful and moving museums I have ever visited. Blew away my expectations.
It's definitely something to do in Amsterdam. The way Van Gogh's life, bit only art, is bought to life is entertaining and amazing. Great work!
Amazing place very well set up the must to go museum
The museum is small, but has a great collection of art work. It showcases their collection of Van Gogh paintings, of course, but also showcase different painters whos styles are comparable or complementary to van Goghs style. When I was there they showcased some paintings of Hockney which I quite enjoyed.
The museum is small, so it uses timeslots. Make sure you buy a ticket ahead of time, because they sell out quickly.
You can park your car in the Q-Park underground parking underneath museumsquare, but this is quite expensive. I would recommend taking public transport since there are a lot of different trams and busses going to museumsquare.
There is a restaurant in the museum, but also different lovely places to eat in the van Baerlestraat.
Excellent Museum. Take your time inside, use the headphone guide device and you will enter in Van Gogh's World..
Great exhibition, interesting building, educational activities for kids and a clean and delicious self-service cafe. Buy your tickets online before you go, as you need to select your entry time.
Awesome visit! An informative journey and an experience a museum goer would want to have.
If you are in the to the art this place is for you Must go and see
This museum is definitely one of the best museums I have ever visited. With multiple floors underground lobby and massive merchandise store, this museum is as entertaining as it is a piece of art on its own
The temporary exhibit was great. Sounds and lights added to the experience. Don't try to take pictures of the art.
A touching, respectful, and endearing view into the mind of this incredible artist who never quite reached that esteem in life.
Great museum! With the history of Van Gogh and his friends and families art works.
Nice but crowded. The paintings are obviously amazing. Luckily I got an audioguide for free, otherwise it would have meant wasting 5 euros. (=pretty useless, it's ok if you know nothing about van Gogh)
lots of his amazing works are in there, with lots of stories you didn't know before, about the great Vincent van Gogh.
Always dreamed of seeing this and it was worth it. Lines to get in were crazy long but do move fast. You can only enter 15 minutes give or take on your ticket time so don't be early and don't be late.
Beautiful museum, with lots of masterpieces, especially by Van Gogh. The price is high, 18 normal ticket, but if you like art, they're worth it. I give 3 stars because of the very bad light system: sometimes the refections on the paintings are so huge and strong that is very difficult to watch at them from a straight or comfortable point of view. That happens frequently and it's very annoying. Furthermore there should have been free audio guides, considering the high price: that is 5 more, instead.
Good palace to see you must have Free time - don't rush through the visit -
There is always something on a trip that changes you forever because you've grown from that experience. This is that go me, life changing. You felt Van Gogh in the walls and architecture. If you can only see one museum while you are in Amsterdam, make this the one. Also pre buy tickets as they limit the amount of visitors and you can send up waiting forever.
Great place but requires Audio Guide to better understand the paintings
I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't constantly hear the employees yelling at the guess to not take pictures. I understand you don't want people taking pictures, but it's not like we can't get the pictures online. If anything they should be getting on the people for standing directly in front of the painting blocking the view of all the other guests some people are just rude. A lot of museums allow you to take pictures as long as you have the flash off. Please reassess your rules and change with the times, or teach your employees how to ask calmly and quietly not to take pictures so others can observe the art in peace. The art was great and some nice pieces of art from other artists. And the way they stager the people coming in works ok.
Is a beautiful place and you must visit it in Amsterdam
My God!!! The most moving experience I have EVER had whilst visiting a gallery by far! The staff was really helpful, caring and very cool too. The way the Dutch are when they are at their best!
