It's a 3 level gallery with more than 20 original paintings for Van Gogh. It also has 3 gift shops and a couple of Cafe. It's not a good place for toddlers and infants. The price for adults admission is 18 Euro

They have a cloak room where you can drop your jacket or backpack to store for free.

Excellent museum featuring many works and letters from the renowned artist. The layout is excellent with Dutch and English text at each painting. There's also a well-stocked art store and a souvenir store onsite. It gets quite busy so make sure to pre-book online and get in ahead of the large queues. Located a very short walk from the city centre with plenty of nearby cafes and shops.

Got to see his work and learned so much about his life and talent. Such a gifted artist but so tormented...the collection includes the famous paintings "the bedroom" and "sunflowers", as well as a good amount of his infamous self-portraits. It was a fun afternoon!

Can't help the fact that it's so busy! The only thing I'm unsure about is if it had disabled access as I couldn't see so much as it was so busy. Luckily my ankle was ok and I didn't need crutches that day so it was fine. Very in-depth exhibits with something for every sense - loved listening to the letters and reading them. Really quite touching. And the staff seemed very nice.

Excellent museum. Lots of great paintings and stories about Van Gogh s life. Make sure you buy tickets at least a day or two ahead because it gets sold out on the day. Also you are allowed to enter no more than 15 minutes before the booker time slot.

Museum shows Van Gogh AND his contemporaries & influences. Photos of art prohibited, but you can photograph the placards and look up the art in hi-res on the museum website later. Audiotour is not as great as it could be.

Purchase tickets in advance online. Save yourself time and don't wait in line. The only downfall is that you have a time slot you'll have to meet. But you won't be waiting in long lines. The gift shops are filled with wonderful gifts, trinkets, books, bags, jewelry and much more. I spent more time visiting the gifts stores than the museum...
The art work was delightful, the history lessons were helpful and the layout was pleasant, a lot easier to maneuver than most art museums. I Did enjoy the ode to Van Gogh and the many other native artists.

One of the best museums I have been too in a while. The audiobook was very engaging, informative and interactive which made it easy to follow through all the rooms and have a great understanding on Van Gogh as both an artist and his personal ambitions. Can easily spend over 3 hours in the museum and have a great time in doing so!

Wonderful art, good audio guide explaining the life and works of Van Gogh, and they only let people in as others leave. So, while busy it's not so crowded that you can't move or admire the art.
The only thing I'd change is that the numbers on the dial for the audio tour at in a completely random order... Not sure why, but one painting would be number 4 and the one next to it could be 89!
FYI if you but tickets online, you skip one of the lines to get in. But, if you have the I-Amsterdam Card (or no tickets yet), you have to do both lines.

Wow Van Gogh was the GOAT. The guy only started drawing at the age of 27 and within 10 years his work were at the god standard. Pure dedication and talent. Very sad he was mentally ill and took his own life so soon.
The Museum itself was grand and thorough, guiding the visitors from Van Gogh s earliest years. It is the single largest collection of his art in the world.

It is wonderfully paced and offers a large selection of his works. I highly recomend taking the audio tour as it does a fantastic job telling you the whole story of van gogh. While you are there make sure to stop by the other exhibits they have on display I am sure you will not be dissatisfied.

Reservations highly recommended. Very crowded. While there is a lot of space between paintings, getting close up views can take some patience. The audio tour is very good but keeps many patrons in front if pictures longer than most. It is problematic. The architecture is spacious and and doesn't detract from the visual pleasures of the art. Big souvenir store. This is one of the many treats if Amsterdam.

Amazing place full of history. I`m not a art connoisseur but all exhibitions and painting on the display make it interesting and easy to understand. All paintings have their own descriptions and some have short story behind it as well as interactive feature about it. Quite interesting for kids too. Well worth the visit with whole family.

Wonderful experience but a bit disappointed that "Starry Night" was not there. It is actually in New York owned by Museum of Modern Art! Now - I - Know! LOL I should have checked. Oh well.
I suggest that you don't follow the flow of people, rather go the upper floors and go to open paintings/drawings/etc. so you are not stuck behind a line of fellow art lovers.
Warning: some people are not looking at the painting but standing right in front looking/listening at their video/audio. Watch for them so you can get closer to have a good look. They need to learn to step aside.
No photos IS NO PHOTOS. Several were taking photos. One should not hesitate to call them out! One lady pretended to not know and took photos. There are huge signs that says no photos among other rules to follow.

Amazing spot to come check out amazing art pieces by Van Gogh and the audio guide is extremely extensive and helpful for explaining many of the pieces there. The museum is massive and contains a good collection of some of the less well known pieces as well as the more famous ones. Great spot to spend some time if you're an art lover.

I visited this museum in Dec 2018. 18 Euro ticket per adult. Children have free entry. Its a must visit museum if you are interested in paintings. Many original paintings, Van Gogh's own handwritten letters, used brushes and paint tubes, some furnitures, family photos, excellent collection and ambience. I would go there again next time I am in Amsterdam

One of the best places for art lovers. It has one of the best collection of Van Gogh s paintings. It is well connected by public transport. It is open till 9 pm. We went without booking any tickets. They don t sell the tickets on the counter. Only way you can purchase ticket is thru the internet, Through the kiosk or thru tours and tickets.each have a quota of tickets so please check all. There is scheduled entry . You need to be there 15 mins prior to your time. Luggage is not allowed , but they provide cloak room for the storage. As you enter and go down the flight of stairs you ll see a shop and counters for audio guide and luggage. I should emphasise that audio guide is a must to fully immerse yourself in the paintings. There is a restaurant on the ground level. There are G+3 floors in the museum. Ground floor has his self portraits and about his early life . As you go higher his paintings get more characteristic of his taste. He matures on each floor. There are several paintings of his friends and other painters who paint in his style of painting. You ll get overwhelmed by the work and how in the museum you take a journey through his life. I ll not describe much in detail as you need to experience it to believe it. There are many famous paintings like the potato eaters, vase with sunflower , the yellow house. Phew you are Van goghized by the time its all over. There is a souvenir shop on the top floor where you can buy replicas of the paintings. Don t forget to see the Van Gogh dreams in the basement. A must visit for art lovers in Amsterdam.

Focused on the person as much as the art. Really enjoyed the layout and the audio tour. Not that big so we were able to enjoy everything without getting overwhelmed. Nice cafe to end our day. Highly recommended even if you don't consider yourself an art person.

Can't say much about it, its totally worth a visit. They have many of van gogh's artworks, but few really big ones are missing though. Overall they offer quite stocked shop, you can put your clothes away before visit and they even have a bar/restaurant there.

Excellent museum. Well organized. Good explanations. Even without the audio guide you get a feel for the artist, his life, his struggles, his fabulous paintings, his evolution as a painter, his accomplishments. Remarkable story, a little sad, yet full of life, albeit a short one. One can only imagine how much more Vincent Van Gogh could have done had he lived to be an old man instead of taking his own life at the age of 37. May he rest peacefully in heaven with all his artists friends, and of course, with his beloved brother Theo, who died just six months after Vincent. Amazing story.

Amazing and fantastic! Van Gogh's paintings, sketches, letters and more are arranged in a comprehensive timeline that fills in the blanks for the average person. The section of Van Gogh's art displayed alongside those of his peers was wonderful. Gaugin, Manet, Seurat, Rodin, Degas, and others. This museum is a must see in Amsterdam.

I was honestly quite disappointed with our visit. Thankfully the ticket was included with the I Amsterdam card (cannot recommend enough if you are visiting the city). It was far too busy inside, and there wasn't a whole lot to see. The best part by far was the special exhibition, the rest could have done with a little more imagination.

Saw the lovely special exhibit of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers". The museum did a great job of capturing Van Gogh's tragic yet brilliant life. Lots of his art is displayed along with letters and other information about his life.

What an amazing experience. This museum is founded on Vincent Van Gogh s works that were owned by his brother, Theo, at the time of his death. And not even all of those, as Theo died soon after and many works were sold to collectors who belatedly began to appreciate Van Gogh s genius. But even without many blockbuster masterpieces, this museum does an incredible job of telling the story of Vincent s development as an artist and his truly revolutionary work as an artist. It also does a great job and helping us to get to know Vincent as a person, largely through excerpts from his letters. The multimedia guide is excellent and recommended. I only wish it had even more detail. Overall, a rare window into the humanity of an artist who changed the course of art.

Fantastic visit & i was with my 15 year-old daughter. Neither of us have huge knowledge on art specifically but glad that we chose this museum. Staff very helpfull, loads of art by other renowned arts also on show & the interactive device made the experience more interesting.

I loved every inch of it. It is a great museum dedicated to this extraordinary painter and the visitor will love it.
Unfortunately taking pictures in the exhibition areas is forbidden.
It is located in a beautiful area with lots of other museums really close by.
Online purchase of the tickets for the museums in general is a must so that you don't have to wait in line.

Busy, buy tickets in advance and most of the well known paintings are surrounded unfortunately but very good museum, lots of food pieces, well laid out to view and learn about Van Gogh life and different eras.

It s an amazing museum you must visit in your life. There is a lot of things to see. And also different exhibitions from time to time in the museum too. The view outside of museum is fantastic and beautiful as well. Highly recommend. Buy ticket before you visit, otherwise will be a long queue!

I didn't have much time (could only get a ticket for 19:15 and the museum closes at 21:00 h on fridays), but yet it was awesome and the audioguide is really good. You should definitely try to get an earlier ticket to make sure to see everything. Absolutely 5 stars worth!

This is one of those must-see places in Amsterdam. It's not very often that you get to see a masterpiece, and even less often to see such a collection of them. The whole place is littered with some of Van Gogh's most famous paintings. Coupled with the fascinating letters and insight into his relationships, I can't recommend this museum highly enough! I've been there twice now, I'll go again.

This museum is great. There is so much detail about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. They hold so much of his artwork, all of his letters and many amazing stories. If you follow the timeline of his life it is remarkable how much you will learn!

Small and crowded museum with lots of Van Gogh famous works and great gift shop. I enjoyed the exhibit in Paris more as this museum is really busy and you have to push through crowds to view tye works. Interesting glimpse into his life - letters and restoration works also on display

Great exhibition! You can get through the whole thing in about 2 hours so book earlier than 4. I came at 4:15 and managed to visit the exhibition and the collection, but had to rush through the ending before the museum closed.

An amazing place with such beautiful art. If you are someone that appreciates art or someone that just wants to kill some time. The Van Gogh Museum should deffinitly be on your list. Four floors full to the brim of life captured in paint. The Museum also has a few sculptures from other artists.

Van gogh he visioned the futuristic way of painting, a paint is an expression of emotion, the accuracy of color and object is irrelevant. He hope the future will appreciate his view of the universe in the next century. In this century, people finally realise a piece of arts can be a capture of personality of person, the motion of the object, the feeling of the artist in one frame. Van gogh master of the three.

Huge exhibit very professionally curated, but no photography allowed.

Pros: great value expansive museum; cloaking is free; toilets are large and well maintained; staff are friendly and helpful; gift shop is varied in range and price.

Cons: audio tour costs extra; absolutely no photography of works; stairs may make visit difficult for some guests.

Great museum that exceeded my expectations. Please remember when visiting- no photos. People posing and taking photos with flash not only damage the paintings but ruin the experience. Please be respectful. No. Photos.

Never knew how the genius of Van Gogh finally was realised by his family, so much achieved in such a short span considering he took up art seriously only after 27 years of age and he had committed suicide by age of 37.

A must see when visiting Amsterdam! Get tickets online to avoid the lines, and plan to spend 3 hours. The audio ( 5) adds a lot to the experience. The museum gets very crowded but for good reason.

Wonderful museum showcasing Van Gogh's work and a limited but great collection of works that inspired him. Next to the obvious quality of his paintings, the curation os great with insightful additions and explanations, about the man himself and his work. Definitely recommended for both fans and casuals.

Book your tickets in advance online and expect huge crowds both inside the museum and at the cloakrooms (bags need to be checked in). Impacted negatively the experience even if everything was handled efficiently. Too much time lost and when trying to get a good look at the work, bit of a hassle to constantly peer through the masses or try to get in front of people just standing there listening to the audio guides. Pity..

No photography allowed in general. Adult tickets not cheap.
