Hours and hours of a great tour. The Japan and van Gogh exhibition is especially brilliant. The cafe is reasonably priced as well
Hours and hours of a great tour. The Japan and van Gogh exhibition is especially brilliant. The cafe is reasonably priced as well
Unfortunately did not have enough time to explore the whole museum, but the multimedia was great (we took the English version) and the museum was beautifully organized so it never felt too crowded.
Beautiful museum, the van Gogh interactive tour is a must. David Hockney exhibition very impressive and a very nice and strong combination with van Gogh!
Simply wonderful. Tells a vivid story of the artist and his life. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and have an hour or two free.
a very interesting museum, very beautiful artworks, you can listen to some of his letters and learn about his life, family, and friends (although they cut out most of the more "sordid" details - but that makes it almost 100% kid-friendly!). not all of his paintings are present (some of his self-portraits aren't there, also the starry night is in New York), but it's still worth it. a must see, you won''t regret it. also, very nice gift shop!
One of the best museums in Amsterdam. Inside they take you on a well organized journey through Van Gogh's life. And honestly, who wouldn't like his beautiful paintings? I also recommend visiting this museum even if you are not a museum fan, you won't be disappointed
Amazing! I m obsessed with Van Gogh, so it was a dream come true to see his art so closely. I mean, I actually cried. Very beautiful, clean building. Picturesque part of town, easy to find as a walking visitor. Plenty to do/eat/shop nearby before & after. Museum team-members very nice to talk to. It s a Very popular destination for MANY people daily, so prepare ahead of time!! Buy your ticket online several days before. It s busy! & you ll skip the long line that way, get a discount too.
Great museum. So much more to know about Van Gogh, by listening to the audio of the letters he wrote.
Great experience book online if you don't want to wait in line
Very expensive and no student discount...
That's not a good look on a museum, I believe that everyone should be able to afford tickets.
(Van Gogh is still my favorite artist)
Didn't get in 2hr wait to get in book online first.
So nice place to be.The majesty of van gogh makes you so small but also so grateful. The only thing I didn't like was that you can't take a photo of the paintings.so live the experience as much as you can so as to make it happen in your minds.
Amazing museum. It has some of the best of Van Gogh s artwork and it s easy to follow the route. You have to be 10 min before your ticket time since there s a queue.
One of the best museums I have ever visited. The artwork is so well curated and the museum really well planned to so the evolution of Van Gogh's work. A definite place to visit In Amsterdam. You need a good four hours at the museum to experience it.
This museum is very informative. It goes through the life history of van Gogh, his brothers and sister and how his brother helped him to publish all his paintings. This museum also display all the paintings of van Gogh in various points of his life.
Worshippers of Van Gogh's creations and all sympathizers are recommended to visit! Bookstore have lots of interesting books and souvenirs
It's amazing. Book well in advance. Dont forget the Hockney exhibition as well ( if it's still on ). It will take about 3 or 4 hours to get through the museum, more if you take your time. Unforgettable, you have to see it once at least. Worth a trip to Amsterdam for.
A good exhibition place and a good knowledge of history of Van Gogh
Blown away with how much artwork is in this museum. Layout and delivery are industry leading. Definitely pay the extra money for the multimedia tour. Added an extra layer of enjoyment to my visit.
They do an excellent job of explaining the artists progression & growth, as well as his struggles along they way. Don't miss this!
The location is 4minutes walking distance from rijksmuseum. The queue line was really long and tickets were sold out but thank god I checked their online website and there were many tickets available. So please buy the entrance ticket through their website. I saved a lot of time by did that. The museum is great. Do pay a visit when you re in Amsterdam
Nice place, really good touristic structure and service. The art collection is amazing as we could expect. Must-to-go in Amsterdam.
Beautiful and well managed museum. Very busy, pre-book your tickets online.
The best place to learn what was the life of Van Gogh and how did he got inspired during his active years. There are also an audio recordings of some of the letters he wrote and received from family and friends that makes you feel what was in his thoughts and what bothered him throughout his life.
This is a must see when you are in Amsterdam. Take 3 hours from your schedule and discover the fascinating aspects of the life of this amazing Dutch master. It is a very crowded museum so make sure that you book your tickets in advance and online. Otherwise you will be stuck in a long, long queue.
Very well done museum. Several floors with English and Dutch descriptions
Stunning place, the works of Vincent truly give this place all its beauty.
I say this because there is no beauty in the way the person observing art is treated by the staff, the museum is crowded so there are two people looking after two hundred.
everybody tries to sneak a picture so the guards pass their time screaming "no picture".
this results to be very annoying, rude and shows a lack of organization in how to deal with the people (obviously) taking pictures.
five stars. but they are all for Vincent, and none for the staff.
Expensive yet worth it. It is an extremely well thought exhibition that honours the artist. The museum takes you through a journey floor by floor through Vincent's years and you truly get a sense of what he went through.
I absolutely loved the experience, and highly recommend going. Moreover, be sure to go early, as it get busy very quickly.
Great paintings, but starry night is not located here, it is located on American soil
No better place to lose yourself in the world of Van Gogh. Here is the closest you will ever get to him! The museum is modern, crowded (pre-ticketing strongly recommended) and thorough. Definitely deserving of the "one of best museums in the world" title.
Van gogh is a great painter. And this the museum with the biggest collection of this painter. So this is a great museum. Also houses a nice collection of other impresionist paintings (showing the influences to van gogh, and influences from)
The temporary exhibition was nice
One major drawback was that photos where not allowed. Photos are not just tourist souvenirs, it is a way of reflecting at the whole experience.
Another problem is of course the crowds.
It was great, but I m polite and I didn t take any pics
wonderful !! standing face to face with Vincent was the most exciting experience !!the self portraits mask different facets of the painter. the museum shows all the life, family, friendships, besides its wonderful works !! understand a little more life and genius of this painter.
Great museum with an interesting and accessible audio visual tour, week with the time and money to visit
One of the best museums I have ever visited. If u have an opportunity to come, don t even hesitate or doubt. In my opinion, this is how modern museum has to look like.
Will be back. Make sure you buy your tickets couple of days in advance.
wanna go to this place many years ago. finally I made it! the audio guide explain most important and famous painting. FYI, recommend buy ticket online.
An in depth study of Van Gogh and his work. Highly recommended!
Museum has lot of art, u will need atleast 4 to 5 hrs
They didn't allow me to come in with my handbag. It was a small backpack handbag but allow people with suitcases and huge bags. And wait until you are at the main entrance to tell you. Force you to leave it at the clock drove at you own risk. Seriously? Leave my passport and my credit card in a public place unattended? If not you are not allow to come into the museum and they won't give you your money back. The only thing you can do is take a transparent plastic bag and put them loose on there so everybody can see what you have in your backpack. Maybe they thing you're going to bring a paint with you. It's so frustrating annoying and dissapointing.
Nice, but doesn't contain Van Gogh's more famous works. Good for the diehard Van Gogh fans. I got told off a couple of times for taking pictures. The cafeteria food is great. Treat yo self and get that Dutch apple pie.
Good normal exhibition and great special exhibition.
Lovely museum ofcourse. I highly recommend taking the audio guide and when you have little time just do the highlights tour on the audio guide. Also don't forget to book in advance!
Was great experience, even for someone like me, who is not really into art. But I have to say I loved it, was great to find out So much about Vincent. Deffo must visit place when in Amsterdam.
Ticket is only available online and admission time is also limited, thus I hurried to buy ticket via mobile right in front of ticket booth (made me feel strange). Exhibition itself was fantastic and very well organized. I strongly recommend to use the multimedia guide - it is worth much more than 5 EUR.
Fantastic collection of van Gogh's paintings and very informative
Well worth the $$ to enjoy 4 levels of art history while learning so much about Van Gogh.
I'm a big fan of Van Gogh, so it was wonderful to see the history alongside the art work from different periods in his life. It's not going to take you a long time to go through it, but it's amazing the see the brushstrokes up close.
This museum is absolutely worth a full day visit. I drank a glass of wine and then spent 8 hours here (I only meant to be there about 4 hours). Van Gogh's works are beautifully organized so the overall flow is wonderful. It is so peaceful inside.
It was ok but they dont give a customer care fig when booking your time slot. No one to tell you which building and where to queue and which queue. But once you get in then they are on you likes bees on honey every 10 steps.
Just gives lots of thoughts and stunned by how van gogh draws and his development until the masterpiece of the sunflower, was bit disappointed that i couldnt see the stary stary night
Amazing! Great museum, even for us amateurs. Found this place suitable for all, fans or not!
No bags allowed in, they have to be checked in to a cloakroom. No photos either, there are inside security who take this very seriously!
Cafe on site as well as a gift shop. I'd say we spent around 2-3 hours here.
Pre-booked tickets the day before online and glad we did, as there is always a long waiting line outside.
Incredible place! Must be visited by everyone. But tickets should be bought online and for tomorrow.
An amazing experience but you need at least 3 hours to view all the exhibits with no hurry.
If you happen to be in Amsterdam and have any interest in art then this is absolutely a must visit museum. The museum exebition is truly captivating and the way how the paintings and the story flows is well thought out. If you want to see the whole exibition you will be here for at least 2h.
It was amazing to be able to see most of his works and learn more about him and his process
I really like this museum, but like all museums it completely drains your energy away because there's no proper place to take a decent rest and have a meal. I really wish that in the future museums may be redesign to be more pleasant places
We loved this museum! It tells the story of Can Goghs career through his art, and the multi media audio guides do a great job of helping you through the whole museum. A must see for art enthusiasts. There are also some interesting temporary exhibits on the ground floor.
So pleased I finally got to visit. Worth the wait. Never realised how much art work Van Gogh actually done during his short time on earth. Very interesting and some real gems in the gallery.
The guided tour by earphones is a necessity in order to truly appreciate all that Van Gogh was. His paintings are incredible!! But the background information about his life, how he developed as an artist, and his tragic emotional ending needs to be properly understood. Beautiful! Emotional!
Absolutely amazing! Art is beautifully exhibited. Wonderful building for the display. Get your tickets in advance!
Nice food and coffee. I didn't check the exhibition at all but the restaurant is good.
Well worth a visit. You'll see a lot of familiar works here.
Pictures were great, but we were not allowed to use the cloakrooms for our bags, meaning we had to leave them elsewhere, meaning we had to view the paintings on the clock, which was less than ideal!!!!
a beautiful place dedicated to a wonderous artist. a must see! dont rush through the museum-- take your time. museum staff were all super helpful. dont miss the bookstore on the third floor!
The robocop entrance guard refused my wife and I entry because we were 19 minutes early for our tour time, in the pouring rain. He made us wait outside in the rain for 4 minutes because he would not allow anyone in until only 15 minutes before their tour time. Other employees even said to him that s absurd but he would not allow us entry. Inside was absolutely swamped with other tourists to the point you were barely able to see any small paintings. They do all they can to limit you entry to the museum but nothing to maintain the population once inside. What a joke.
Absolutely loved it. Wheelchair accessible and friendly staff. Fantastic gift shops. I wish I could have afforded to buy everything
Great to see some world famous paintings in a purpose built environment.
Open spacious building set the paintings off beautifully.
Good down to earth descriptions of the pictures. Good background material including sketches and artefacts.
Nice cafe with good quality food and drink.
It did get a little busy as the day went on, even in February and people cluster round the famous works which sometimes makes studying the paintings in detail a little tricky.
Still worth a visit. Memorable.
Excellent Museum. Kid friendly with a half hour where they get to go and draw and paint, as well as given paper so they can sketch the Paintings on the walls if they like. Great gift shop as well. To do the entire thing I estimate about 3-5 hours depending on if you are doing the audio guide and want to read every single blurb for each painting.
Perfect place to enjoy Amsterdam come whit comfortable shoes and enough time
Do not miss out the Van Gogh Museum if in AMS!
Save at least 2 hours of your time to go to this museum, it has exhibitions not only from Vicent but other artist as well. The rooms are big enough for people to stare as much as they want without bothering other visitors, so i d recommend to take your time and try to understand what the artist wanted to portray in each piece.
Well organized. I learned a lot about the life and art of Van Gogh.
Great museum..take the audio guide and explore all beautiful pictures of gim.
Just a gorgeous place to have a walk and see beautiful pictures
Turned up on a Wednesday lunchtime without prebooking, wasn't an issue queuing as it took about ten minutes to get tickets. Avoid bringing a bag as you won't be able to take it in without dropping it off in the cloakroom (handbag is okay). Photos are not allowed in the majority of areas however you can take some quick shots if you're discreet and the staff are not looking in your direction. The idea of paying to get in a museum is alien to me, though, as they tend to be free back home.
Beautiful experience - pairings were incredible and it was amazing to see one artists work all in 1 place. Helped understand how his style changed and developed over the years. Great artists and well compiled / designed museum.
I liked it. We bought our tickets online as well as audio guide. The audio guide was truly useful. The experience was really good. The only downside was that there were too many noisy people who didn't seem to be there for the art but to talk to each other. The museum is easily accessible by tram 19 - the stops are nearby.
Love Van Gogh! Such a very highly talented Artist, a true Artist... so sad that he ended his own life...
Not allowed to take photographs inside the Gallery, such a pity, but then so much more enjoyment to be able and drink in the beauty of the paintings.
one of the best museums I've been to. really changed my perspective of who Van Gogh was and has made me appreciate his work from a different angle.
Buy your tickets in advance or you will spend hours in line. I enjoyed my recent visit to the Van Gogh Museum, but I had a better experience 10 years ago when the layout was different and the crowds were not quite so large. We optimized our visit by skipping immediately to the top floor and working our way back down, which was chronologically out of order, but slightly faster than starting out on the main floor.
The audio tour in English was excellent. I have never spent so much time in an art museum. I learned how Van Gogh influenced other artists and how he was influenced by them.
I really dreamed to visit this museum. I m a fan of Van Gogh s arts. You can see there many art pieces and especially the most famous ones - such as Sunflowers, Potato eaters, Irises, Almond Tree and many others. You can t make photos of arts there. But there places where you can make a selfie or photo. You can have a audio guide and listen to the information in various languages. For me it wasn t so many new information cause I knew already mostly all biography. But it was good to see his works there and of course his letters to his brother. And also works of other artists. But I personally wasn t interested in those. I just came for Van Gogh s. But it was very, very crowded there. Too crowded for such a small museum. So sometimes it wasn t so comfortable to look at the arts. Everyone is speaking and distracting you from enjoying of contemplation on arts. The stuff was very helpful. I cut my finger and needed a bandage which they gave me. So thanks. But the most famous art - Starry Night - is not there! It s somewhere in New York. And some others in Paris and other places.
Absolutely awesome. One security lady helped us to attend 9AM entry with our 12:15 pm tickets with permission from inside. She is really beautiful and great! I should have asked her name. We were worried as our bus was on 2:20PM. We enjoyed the museum with our heart. Pls ensure the audio. Take as much souvenir u can as they are of quality and you will never repent. Museum orientation and walk by is beautiful. U can take picture with their official camera and post on ur email to be surprised. It was really a good experience.
A really nice visit to a fantastic museum, detailing the life and works of Van Gogh - make sure to book in advance
