Incredible collection of Van Gogh and friends artwork and history. A must see if you visit Amsterdam.
Incredible collection of Van Gogh and friends artwork and history. A must see if you visit Amsterdam.
You can't buy tickets with cash or credit cards that need to be signed for. 18 per adult, and you go in in time slots, but they don't seem to be strict with this. You can't take luggage in at all, and any back packs or bags need to stored inside, but that at least is free. No photography is allowed, which is a pity as you can't share the experience with family that will never get a chance to see the exhibit. The exhibit is good though, a very thorough collection of his work and very well laid out.
Van Gogh your thing? Then don't miss this gallery. Because of the popularity it's always busy so can be a push to get close the the most famous paintings.
It's amazing Musuem featuring Van Gogh's works. Would love to come back in the future and spend more time.
Very good collection. Comfortable location. There is one problem: it is usually overcrowded.
A modern museum that tells the story of its namesake and exhibits his painting as well as some others. A maximum of 3 stars rating. One for the building, one for collection and one for the artist.
The downsides are having to go through unnecessary queues even if you had tickets. There are queues for ticket validation, queues for the door, queues for security, cloak room and bag check-ins. Staff there behave like they've never seen or expected queues for the whole duration of the museum's life as there are nowhere near enough windows or staff or even poles or any sense of organisation to this whole mess. 1 small swing door for the museum with one single door staff checking tickets. 2 ticket sale windows only. No linings or... you get the point.
Make sure you get your ticket online in advance. Saw loads of people get denied at the door. Great museum and nice layout.
I was amazed by the quantity of pieces from Van Gogh! I recommend not less than 3 hours visit.
It's still a Great museum and with a nice exabition.
It is a fantastic museum but I don't like the paintings so much.
Good museum with paintings of one of the greatest painter of all time. Tickets buyable by internet or by ticket machine which accepts only credit cards.
Great museum to visit when you're in Amsterdam! It details Vincent Van Gogh's life from the humble beginnings until after his passing. I enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back here!
I was profiled for no apparent reason but they did have good art and gifts for sale.
Ugh. I was soooo disappointed with this museum after visiting the Moco. I found the layout disappointing and difficult to navigate. People with mobility issues will spend ages waiting for the lift. They dont allow photos of the art.
Huge collection of Van Gogh paintings, if you are a fan, do not hesitate !
For all the art lovers. A place to visit atleast once in your lifetime
Beautiful. Huge. Was quite crowded when we were there.
I strongly recommend this location in amsterdam visit. You will take a good time inside.
A quaint tree and garden filled park atop the valley, perfect for reading, conversing, avoiding the mid day heat. Take a funicular to the top from Avenida de Liberdade to complete Lisboa experience. Musicians play in the park, it's a little slice of heaven while exploring Lisboa. There's no vendors in the park, so bring what you need with you, water, food etc.
If you are planning to visitthe museum make sure you bring your bank card coz they dont accept cash payment
We went to the museum knowing already about Van Gogh's works like many. So I was a little disappointing that there we not much more then looking at his work. (Ok, it is a fabulous chance). I wished that it would be more interactive. I which I would have been given something to do. I think I missed out not having an audio guide.
AMAZING MUSEUM. A beautiful museum full of beautiful art and stories about the man who made them. The multimedia tour is a must, it made see the paintings in a different way. Pls visit if you are in Amsterdam!!
We were very impressed with the displays and information provided here. It was a wonderful part of our day in Amsterdam. We had purchased an Amsterdam pass and were able to enter using one of our tickets. Great value
It doesnt get better than this if you are a Van Gogh fan! Must visit for seeing his best work!
Can't say I was very impressed. All the good work appears to be from his artist friends. Although maybe I'm not a fan of his work. It was also very busy.
A very good experience. I loved the entire atmosphere of the museum and learned a lot of new information about the life of Vincent van Gogh himself as well as his family and friends. The audio guide was very informative (and not very expensive - 5 for adults, 3 for children over 12 and free for 12 and unders) and had an easy to use interface as well as a few interactive activities to really immerse you in the world of van Gogh. There are two shops and so neither was extremely busy and there was almost no queue. A museum I would love to visit again.
It was good experience enjoying Vincent van Gogh story and his masterpiece...in his own land
Just remember to take ticket in advance and this is must go place of Amsterdam ...and even if you couldn't carnivals you can enjoy.
Great place with unique collection of Van Gogh's paintings and draughts. Additional exhibition helps to understand his life and development of style, his pity to the pool, his passion for sunshine and vivid, strong color. You could spend a whole day here if there were less visitors. But most of them are quite and peaceful. Remember to book your tickets online in advance to avoid the queue an the ticket box. In the three shop you can find many delightful souvenirs to take home. A must-see in Amsterdam!
One of the best museums I've ever been including everything that you could wish from such a place!
Great way to get insight on Van Gogh's life and work but too crowded, people don't respect some basic rules of visiting museums.
Some of his biggest/ the most beautiful pictures are not here.
Low lighting and tiny print so make sure you bring glasses if you need them! But a lovely atmosphere with plenty to learn and see. It only took me 2 hours to walk through and read mostly everything, highly recommend.
What to say. Work of a master, with fenomenal perception of colours. Must see.
Fantastic perspective of Von Gogh's work and legacy. Created through the efforts of his Nephew.
Interesting info about the life of Van Gogh. Get lost in the museum for a few hours. Definitely check it out if you're in Amsterdam.
I completely loved the museum visit. It is a wonderful place with a lot of information. I really recommend to pay for the audioguide. I visit all the museum in 3 hours. It is a spectacular place.
Nice museum...sad story. Knowledgable, friendly staff
Nice museum about Vincent his life and his drawings
Nice to visit a museum that prominently specializes in one artist.. and is organized by his timeline with lots of personal items included. Be sure to check online for tickets ahead of time~ they only take so many people at one time, and sometimes it's the only way to buy tixkers
This is the second time I've been to the Van Gogh Museum. I first went when I nineteen, and now again at the age of thirty five. This time, I was nearly brought to tears by the beauty of a few of his works; The first time, I now realize, I didn't truly appreciate what I was seeing. If you are a fan of Van Gogh, this is a no brainer. If you're a lover of art of any kind, this is a no brainer. There are self guided audio tours you can take advantage of. I was booked on a private tour via a river cruise I was on, so I had a local guide that walked us through the museum and provided commentary. Not sure if this is available to the general public, but if it is, I'd recommend it. It gets busy, so be ready to get in there and "throw some elbows" (as I like to say) if you want to get close to the paintings.
Great day out definitely worth paying an extra 5 for the English tour guide
Incredible collection. Worth the wait but suggest you buy a timed entry ticket
Wonderful museum that depicts Van Gogh's life and works. Interesting to see and learn about one of the world's most famous artists. There is usually a long line to both purchase tickets and enter the museum. Admission is included in the IAmsterdam card, although one still has to line up for ticket exchange. A little crowded inside as well, and pictures are prohibited in most areas.
This is on the best museum I have ever been to. I like it
Really worth the visit. Would recommend it to any local or tourist visiting!
Fabulous museum. Chronological look at the artist and his work. Great display of influence Japanese art had on Van Gogh.
Fantastic to see his work and learn about his life. There nothing like seeing great works of art live in person. Unfortunately due to the large amount of tourists, I was not able to spend more time throughly examining the art pieces. I think museums around the world need to come up with a system to coordinate maximize viewing time and yet accommodate all the tourists.
was nice to learn that van gogh was a truly dedicated obsessively hard working artist who accomplished more growth and quality experiences in 10 years than most ever could in a lifetime...due to all the distractions and the weight of obligation, social responsibility and normative thinking. Also cool to see that he was a deliberate and serious artist rather than the "insane" accidental artist he is often portrayed as being in art history. It was due to his art dealing brother, and ultimately his sister n law that his work became popularized. i never realized how many he influenced in 20th c art. 4 Stars only bc it seems like possibly a tad much museum for one already v popularized artist. nice cafe!
It's busy and it's Long waiting for the tickets. Loved paintings
Any types of souvenirs you can think of, you can buy the Van Gogh version here. The audio guide was nicely designed.
Worth the money. A must visit! Gift shop has both expensive items and inexpensive items.
Wonderful place. Make sure you visit all floors. Floor plan does not give enough detail of the exhibits.
Van Gogh Museum. If you haven't been to Van Gogh museum, you have to go. It is so worth the trip in The Netherlands. The art pieces were beautiful. It was not only Van Gogh's art was there, also other artists that influenced him or the artists that were influenced by him. There is also some souvenirs shops inside the building that sells Van Gogh's printed art, biography books, story books, stationery, and many many more. You can stay however long you like in the museum. You can sit at the big space provided with free WiFi. Remember to get your bags, coats checked in before entering the museum and you are only allowed to take photos in permitted areas of the museum.
A mist-see for every art history enthusiast.Excellent use of the space. Each floor explains a period of time and different aspects surrounding the artist's life, such as family, personal letters, early style. It was amazing to see his most recognized work up close as well as learning about what was his life's condition like. I like the intertwining of his works with his life, getting a glimpse of how was life then.
We had only one day in Amsterdam.Could not get in as it requires online booking ahead of time; the day was fully booked. We had no means of bookimg online prior to arrival. Nobody had told us that tickets cannot be bought at the museum. Disappointed we missed it as I'm sure I would have given it 5 stars for the display if I had seen it!
Really worth it. I really enjoyed this museum that you can visit in 1-2 hours its not expensive at all. But please remember to buy online ticket in advance! Its super busy!
This is a famous museum that is always full of visitors from all over the world, so I recommend that you buy your tickets online or have a museum card on your hand. It s better to rent an audio guide to give you more insights about the great artist, Van Gogh. However, in my opinion, Kroller-Muller museum is a better place for appreciating his masterpieces in a more quiet way.
This is a world class art museum dedicated to one of the greats. Here his art is presented alongside his letters and life story in an integrated and well designed space. Very well curated.
I couldn't wait to visit this museum absolutely outstanding, get your tickets early as entry times are assigned when you purchase tickets. Enjoy
Lots of Van Gogh artwork and information about his life. Also the temporary Sunflowers exhibition was amazing! Recommend to book the ticket in advance as the queue might be long.
Awesome and worth your money.
Only problem is I was looking forward to seeing the starry night. Wasn't there
One of the best museums I have ever visited, the Van gogh story is interesting you see that reflected in his paintings, something that made all the difference was to follow along with the audio explanation, it has several languages worth it!
Inspiring on a grand scale. Worthwhile planning well in advance to avoid disappointment but a beautifully put together collection.
Fabulous exhibits especially the Japanese one. Ensure you go on time according to ticket. No pictures are allowed!!
Plan to spend at least two hours here. Make a reservation online before you arrive.
Highly recommend getting the headsets which give you interesting background on the life and inspiration behind Van Gogh s paintings. His story and psychology is half the experience. I found the self portraits particularly interesting.
Just a delightful museum with tons of Van Gogh artwork from all periods of his life.
A must visit museum in Amsterdam. Here you can rent a multimedia guide to get know more regarding Van Gogh lifetime and masterpieces. However,it is better to book the ticket and visit time in advance.
This is a must see when visiting Amsterdam. Not only for the work of Van Gogh but also learn and see about his life, fascinating!
Over 400 paintings, private correspondence with other artists, private letters and so much more.
You will need several hours to complete this visit.
Don't miss it!
Highly recommended
You need to take the appointment before going even if you've iamsterdam card. Van Gogh museum has most of the his art works.
Needs at least 2h to cover 3 floors. If you're carrying heavy luggages or coats, there's a cloak roam for free of charge.
Photography is not allowed inside.
Brilliant exhibit with a great amount of detail surrounding the life and death of Van Gogh. Really enjoyable. The only draw back is just how busy the place is. You do feel a little like herded cattle at times, and it does mean you don't feel you can enjoy each exhibit for as long as you would normally wish you.
Fantastic new exhibition about Japanese influence on Van Gogh's art. A 'Must See' if you have the possibility to visit! Ticket 18,- / Kids < 18 for free!
They say no pictures here. It s really small and crowded so that explains why. I spend about an hour here.
I loved the Van Gogh Museum. The art work was wonderful. It was very crowded so be prepared to wait. I like that they have the ear plugs so you can learn about the different pieces of ary. I also like how the art is on different floors for the different times in his life.
Overall great. The audio system is a little confusing as there is no real order to the clips and slightly disappointing that some of his better known works aren't there however still worth a visit
Awful. Van Gogh paintings are awesome, but this museum is not. You have to pay about 25 (with multimedia guide), an expensive ticket taking into account that there is not ppl limit and there are hundreds of people in every floor. Sometimes you cant stop to appreciate a piece cause other people is pushing you to continue.
It was very noisy too.
Wonderful experiences. Please buy online tickets much faster. Must rent the multimedia device it add explanations to drawings makes the tour much meaningful
Absolutely amazing experience. Crowds were heavy, but be patient & you will be able to see everything. Spend the money to get the audio tour, the museum would not be the same without it.
Wonderful! The layout really allowed me to gain a newfound appreciation for Van Gogh.
Pre-book tickets online. You will have to check your bag (no large luggages; standard backpack size ok). If you have a large luggage, there is a luggage storage on Museumplein nearby that is affordable.
Definitely get the audio guide!! It is well worth it.
Gift shops have affordable and unique gifts.
Very touching and well presented. Purchased the multimedia tour and really felt it enhanced the experience. No photos allowed in exhibition. Felt it was presented in a very sensitive manner. It was made very clear that he painted and created despite his depression.
Excellent. Must visit if you're in Amsterdam. Book tickets in advance online. Have them ready on your phone. Actual email not screenshot as screenshots won't scan properly.
Nice venue easy access . Goes through the history of Van Gogh . Takes a good one hour and half to get around the museum a must see
It was invigorating to get an insight about Vincent Van Gogh
Well organised place.. only hand bags and wallets are allowed inside the museum. But they have a very good locker system.
Four floors of beautiful Van Gogh works. It s the second time I ve been in just under a decade, and I still loved it. My partner and I were in there for an hour and a half without the audio guide.. I think if you got that you might be there even longer.
Amazing museum, highly recommended. Take the audio guide
