Lately, you can book your visit time slot, I advice you to book in advance. If you have a Museumkaart and If the employee is kind enough you can skip the line, don t miss taking the multimedia guide tour. For Museumkaart holders: you will have a very special treatment, you can skip the line, and have a dedicated section in the cloakroom (which is usually crowded).

Incredible media tour and gorgeous location at Museumplein. The no-photography rule is somewhat annoying, but if you really enjoy art then the museum is amazing. Little to no lines and a beautiful new building. Ok shop.
Iconic museum. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Amsterdam. The digital AV guide is very good. There is a long queue for the tickets typically. Avoid the long queue by buying tickets online - especially if you are coming on a cold rainy day.
Would not recommend. When we arrived we had to buy tickets for a different time 3.5 hours after which meant we had to change our plans and stay close by. We assumed that because of the time slots that it would be a guided tour but it wasn t. Simply a large group of people wandering around the museum at random. Inside there is ample amount of information about Van Goghs life but the museum largely consisted of other artists work either people who inspired or were inspired by Van Gogh. Overall we were not satisfied after paying 20 each and having to wait such a long time only to be part of a crowd so large that we couldn t stop and read the descriptions of the paintings, wandering around without any kind of guidance.
For a lover of Van Gogh art, this was a must see in Amsterdam. The museum is vast and confusing at times, and having to book in advance may put some off. Given the number of paintings Vincent painted, the museum has a reasonable collection, including many of his self portraits. It was good to be able to see the evolution of his style over time, and the last painting he ever did before his death.
During our visit to the museum, there was an event of Arrival of Spring a live with a Dutch musician called Remy who Van Gogh was the inspiration of his last album. The Mix of painting of vanG9gh withmusic was amazing.
A must see when you're in Amsterdam. Within walking distance of public transport and the Rijksmuseum. Tickets are available online only, so buy in advance!
Absolutely amazing, nice building with an amazing and wide collection of Van Gogh paintings... Offers guide and a translator. The place is super clean and very open. They also have a shop with books, clothes and a lot of souvenirs. Definitely a must go in Amsterdam!!!
Best experience ever! Love Van Gogh and his artwork! Learned a lot about his life and how much he suffered... I recommend to book online in advance the tickets so you won t have to queue
Visited this museum on the first leg of my 'one new city per month' project in January 2018. Really impressed with the friendliness of the staff. Good facilities including a cafe, clean toilets and shop. Excellent disabled facilities. Well done, 5 out of 5...
Excellent but their q handling at tickets is poor. They even make the locals with museum cards queue up for stupid paper tickets that you then give away to their own people 10 metres away. Get with digital and common sense, people...
If you re an art lover, it s a must-stop. Even if Van Gogh isn t your favorite of the greats, the museum is worth the trip. The museum does a great job at teaching you about the life of the man behind the paintings, appealing to those who enjoy art, history, or both. It s also the only place you ll find some of his most famous paintings, including the one believed to be his last.
If you want to go, buy tickets online ahead of time so you make sure you get in and so you can skip the line. Don t bring big bags or suitcases. You can t bring them in. But you can check backpacks and coats for free. Audio tours cost a few euro extra, otherwise the captions on the walls do a great job of telling Van Gogh s story. This place gets very busy, so if you want to see it all, plan for a couple hours at least. Bonus: It s in a very nice area with a nearby park and other museums, so plan to stick around that part of the city for a bit.
Love everything about the museum from the surrounding, the architecture and how the museum arranged the paintings depicting Van Hogg s life in different timeline. Thumbs up.
The security staff of this museum was racist. They wanted to arrest my friend, because of his appearance. My friend has a beard and because of that they thought he was a terrorist.
Wonderful museum with many Van Gogh's works of art and also artifacts of his life. It was interesting to see his journey as a painter from sketches to experimenting with colour and doing portraits. His landscape paintings are remarkable. My only regret is not renting the audio guide and booking it too late in the day.
Some of the famous paintings were not on show which was disappointing. Find it ridiculous they don't accept cabin bags as they had enough space in the cloakroom, so wasted 30 minutes in the rain trying to find somewhere to leave my bag.
A fantastic museum but encountered a rude and racist staff at the entrance :(
My visit was 09:45 local time on 17 July 2019. The museum and the exhibition are well organised, they even provide a free workshop in which you can paint your own version of sunflower.
However, this whole trip was affected by a extremely rude and racist staff at the door. As the only Asian tourist in line, I felt I was treated conspicuously differently.
When I arrived on time and showed the ticket on my cellphone, one female staff at door yelled (yes, not in a peaceful and normal tone speaking) at me, "this is not the ticket, you cannot get in. Get out the line." I was offended by "get out" this wording but explained this is the ticket I received your website. She said "It's membership card, and it's free, did you click that because it is free?" not in a normal tone of asking. I said "Yes, I clicked that because I want a physical ticket as a souvenir." There were several western tourists before me ahead of line, all turned back. The staff checked their ticket in a regular tone and allowed them to get in without problem. As the only Asian visitor in line, that staff's attitude made me uncomfortable and felt insulted. She kept saying and I have to interrupt her constant talking twice just to ask where to find the ticket from the official email sent by museum, and she finally stopped her talking and said "check your email and there are several documents."
A wonderful museum to visit and a lovely area lots of cafe lots of things to see and do cathedrals church buildings canals shops travelling by trams or the Metro
Very interesting, the audio tour is not necessary but you will get much more out of the experience if you aren t well versed in art. The time to complete the audio tour and a complete walk through took more than four hours. Highly recommended.
Really recommend if you re very interested or just want to know more about Van Gogh! The whole museum is design as a whole story and has a main theme which I loved about the museum, which is the main reason for the rating ;)
When get out of the museum, you will have alot of knowledge about Vencent Van Gogh.
Amazing atmosphere and great paintings, of course it miss the Starry Night and some of the most famous paintings by Van Gogh. It holds The Bedroom , alot of self-portraits, one of the Sunflowers , The Potato Eaters .
If you re coming to amsterdam, this is a must, and you should book your tickets online weeks ahead.
Nice museum with lots of art to watch. The signs next to the paintings are quite small so you have to get close to read, which would y be an issue except it can get super busy. Book tickets in advance to avoid missing out.
A top attraction while in Amsterdam. I absolutely loved walking through all the exhibits and viewing all the beautiful work of Van Gogh and others. I would highly recommend stopping in here and enjoying the day, but make sure you buy your tickets from one of the many Tours and Tickets in town, it's the same price as at the museum but it allows you to go through a shorter line which will save you between one to two hours, especially in the weekend.
Good museum that you shouldn't miss when you visit Amsterdam. Van Gogh is a very famous artist and this place has so many things to see. Really worth a visit.
This is the best museum that I have ever been to. I loved my experience and will recommend visiting to anyone I know who is visiting Amsterdam. The artwork was incredible. Though the museum does not hold many of Van Gogh's largest works, the incredible quantity and versatility of the works show the progression of his career and allow you to learn about him as an artist. I immediately googled him after I returned home from vacation, and will make an effort to track down and view his work going forward.
Damn near everyone has seen Van Gogh's paintings in an art class or as a painting. But even as brilliant as they look on paper, they do not do the paintings justice. Take the opportunity to see them in person. Everything about the paintings change. The amount of paint Van Gogh uses gives different texture and dimension that you could never see on paper. A definite highlight of my trip!
Loved it here, Van Gogh is one of my favourite artists, so really loved seeing amazing paintings I've only ever seen in books before. On a practical note, you're only allowed to take small bags inside - others must be left at the cloakroom. The cloakroom is run very efficiently and is free, but the sheer numbers of people meant huge queues to collect our things.
Nice building, filled with paintings. Not many paintings of chairs though. Very spacious and well layed out, worth a visit. Also has a lovely view from the top floor
Beautiful outer building housing a great expo of the greatest Dutch master , close to other major museums , Vondel Park , the Heineken Experience and Leidseplein
This museum is houses in a modern glass structure. The museum shop is very strategically placed in the centre to attract visitors from the word go and to compensate for the very little the museum has to offer.. when I went there yesterday, there was a temporary exhibition on Van Gogh's life. It was quite unintentionally hilarious with light and sound effects trying to recreate the Europe of the late 19th century. You can give this a Miss and go to the Rink museum instead. Not worth the ticket price.
I am from Amsterdam and people tell me that I look like Vincent. Only today at age 37, I visited the Van Gogh Museum for the first time. Vincent, I'm sorry for taking so long.
I did not realize that the work I was looking forward to see is actually in New York, but that's on me. Plenty else to see and learn about Vincent's life, I'm intrigued!
One of the must visit museums when you are in Amsterdam. My no. 1 favourite museums among the 3 to 4 museums I visited during the 4 days stay here. You have to purchase the tickets one or 2 days via their official website in advance or else you will miss it sadly. Always a full house but good news is if you can visit them on Fridays then it will be closed by 10 pm (ie time slots to book). To visit them like at 7 or 7.30 am is not a bad idea at all (with a bit less people), and to enjoy the evening views there as well. You may want to stay longer as to visit their store and even have a drink afterwards as well. Enjoy and Cheers !
One of my favorite Museums in Amsterdam! Get your tickets upfront (I got them through the site peliqan.ai, they have a nice safe payment service) to avoid the sometimes HUGE line at the museum. Visited it over 10 times, every time you see something new, amazing!
Loves this museum so much, unfortunately camera is not allowed so no pictures to show how great this museum is! PS: Except Starry Night (at MoMA in New York), you will see all the master pieces of Van Gogh.
Very modern, well thought, clear, easy to walk through and helping to understand the artist. I visited while there was an additional part - multimedia installation which I really liked (ends 2019 january I think)
Amazing collection of pieces, well placed, and engaging. So much history and information about Vincent, his life, friends and influences. Absolutely worth a visit, book ahead for tickets. Even if you have to wait in queue it's worth the time.
Excellent trip into the world of one of the world's greatest painters. A must if you're in Amsterdam. Remember to take the audio guide (for a small fee) to get even more insight and understanding of this genius artist.
We had the privilege of enjoying a personal tour after closing hours. Wonderful experience. Beautiful exhibition highlighting the influence of Japanese art on van Gogh.
Wonderful collection of Vincent Van Gogh and you definitely don t want to miss it if you re a fans of his artworks. Even if you re not, can you really say that you have been to The Netherlands without visit Van Gogh Museum? Vincent Van Gogh is definitely one of the national treasure of The Netherlands.
Book your ticket online if you d like to skip the long queue. Much better that way. And from time to time. Van Gogh Museum would also showcase some special collections too, you can find out more on their website.
Very crowded after 11 am. It was cool and worth the visit, but the museum doesn't house Van Gogh's most famous work, Starry Night. So dont go expecting to see it.
This museum takes you through the timeline of Van Gogh s career. Interesting evolution of artist techniques and the special exhibit shows how he was influenced by his artist friends. Top floor showcases many of his most famous works, although Starry Night and The Scream are not available as they are at the Met in NYC and the National Gallery and Munch Museum in Norway respectively.
I was really positivity surprised. So manny beautiful paintings and a good view in the life of Vincent van Gogh. All the important paintings are here to see. I would advice you too take an audio guide. They have them in many languages. The guide gives you really extra info, especially useful because the info next to the paintings is sometimes scares and many other people want to read it at the same time. So its more relaxed to stand back and listen. The museum is easy accessible, spacious and has a wardrobe. Enjoy your time.
Deep dive into the era of 19th century art by one of the greatest artists of all time. There is a lot to love and admire. Do not miss to pay a visit if you are around.
A must visit for all you arts lovers. Can easily spend a couple of hours there looking at all the paintings. There is a device for rent which provides a little background to the paintings.
A modern and spacey museum in Amsterdam to give tribute to Van Gogh. The life and progress of his arts is showed here. Other artists who give influence to Van Gogh are also showed. The museum provide audio to help visitors understand all Van Gogh's paintings. But if visitors don't want to rent audio, the museum has also gives notes in some of Van Gogh important and famous paintings. I suggest you to spend 3 hours minimum to enjoy the entire museum.
