Outstanding! Prompt, polite, prepared, and professional in all they do. I had to go to emergency and from Deb, Jenny and Dr. Johnson I was treated with kindness respect and concern to make sure I was taken care of with the best care I ve ever had. Even Kim in radiology was at the highest standards too. I love the VA Medical Center it s one stop all under one roof it s way better then active service and my wife was with she says it s better than Fairview Ridges. As far from door to the treatment rooms and the best you went to pharmacy just down the hall. I m glad to have served but man theas indiaviguals are the BEST! I hope more Vets apriciate the whole system that Bob Hope had invisioned for US VETS. God bless you all!

Where to start... for 3 years I have scheduled my annual physical with my primary care, every time I also have a blood draw and every year they never put in the order for the blood draw.

This year I had enough cancelled my appointment with my PC because I have had enough. Last year I went between my PC office and blood draw 4 times to get that part taken care of. On top of that the never came and got me for my appointment with my PC and told me that I would have to come back another day to be seen or I could wait 2 hours for a possibility to be seen if they had time.

This time I was not going thru that. Just cancelled and will not go back.

My husband had pain in his side, mentioned it to his provider in October, statement passed over, continued with side pain went back in January, provider finally listened, did CT scan, blood clot in portal vein of his liver, sent to Minneapolis, I can't even tell you how many CT scans, endoscopies, colonoscopies, and blood tests he went through. I just kept begging for him not to fall through the cracks! His last CT scan showed something and the hematology dr said to take him to the emergency room. That was August 6th, the 8th he was transferred to the U of Mn. The 9th he was in surgery, had a good weekend, I knew he was going to have surgery on Tuesday, I had asked for the nurse to call when she knew what time. No call, I got to the U and he was already in surgery! August 14th I lost my best friend, and husband. I will not ever get over this loss. All because I didn't ever want to see him go through the cracks. HE DID! Hopefully they learn from this.

I am disappointed in Iowa City Iowa's vet hospital and Minneapolis vet hospital. My fathers best friend needs triple by-pass surgery and they tried to do a angioplasty on July 19th in Iowa City however they were unable to do this due to artery too clog. So they are sending him to the VA hospital in Minneapolis (was told it was excellent hospital for heart) for the procedure and it is now July 28th and still have not heard from them. He has called and no one seems to no anything or they do not return his calls. I am no nurse or Dr., however I am pretty sure this is not acceptable medical treatment. These vets deserve so much better treatment then they are receiving.

Just tried making an appointment at 4:35 PM. Was told by the "after hours" staff in Dayton Ohio that appointments are not available when talking to after hours staff. Recommendation: expand your hours that appointments are available. 4:35 should not be considered "after hours." 4:35 is not really very late in the day, it would be normal for busy folks to call later in the day. Also, when the appointment center is available, please ask their employees to quit trying to discourage people from coming to the VA. This is a poor way to deal with your problem of being over-booked and too far out with appointments.

While suffering severely with depression and increasing ptsd symptoms I reached out to 3 different VA providers in a 10 day window and was ignored by all 3. I was frustrated at this so I went to the patient advocate office and the door was locked, so I called while standing right there and left a voicemail. They never called me back. I have written to my congressman about this as well, but he's not worth his weight in pennies, so I doubt anything will happen. If you're ever baffled by the fact that we lose 21 vets a day to suicide, look no further than the VA and how they shrugged me off and ignored my requests for help. Where are vets supposed to go when their healthcare providers ignore them? I'm lucky that I had my family to support me through this and keep me from sinking too deep, but not everyone is so lucky. Do better, Minneapolis VA.

Mr. Mike Rosecrans, Extremely helpful, best guy there if you need a patient advocate..He's not masquerading as a patient advocate, he is the REAL DEAL and sincere as well. He CAN and DOES help Vet's.

Rudest nurses and assistants I've ever met. Can't get any service without them giving you an attitude and acting like you're nothing but an inconvenience. I'm not at all impressed after taking my mom to this ER. Very upsetting and outrageous to see how they treated these veterans after all their service for this country.

I made an appt with the Optometrist and finally got my glasses. I cannot see through the left lense. My eyes were checked by a student and she did not write down my prescription correctly. I do not appreciate not being able to see a real doc. Waste of time and money.
I have called the customer service line MULTIPLE times and only get voicemail. I left them my name and number last week and haven't got a call back. Disappointed. I will just get a pair from my local clinic.

I could write a book.but will only touch on a few encounters I have had to endure, 3 blood clots dislodged and went into my right lung this is after being kicked out and CHF the v.a. said they needed the beds, so i made it to my car I made it home and woke up with the blood clots I went to a hospital near where I live could not breath and figured the v.a. surely would not have an issue WRONG! The v.a. said blood clots are not life threatening and they had beds all of a sudden, so I waited for awhile (3 yrs) went back to. v.a. and looked around it was remodeled I thought maybe they got rid of all the.vet haters and my liver doc looked pretty smart she ordered all the scans and everything so I get dressed wash up and drive through heavy traffic get there check in a few minutes later they told me my apts were canceled this place causes more deaths and needs a congressional investigatiI want to see this againion and bad, i remember the high quality care before that communist Kenyan usurped the presidency and destroyed all heath care,

Its hit or miss, I've had the same issues for 16 years and no one has figured it out. I'm in pain constantly and they have only offered pain meds, no explanation, no reason for pain. Sometimes I just break down because I have nothing to go on other than being alive hurts..... . I finally could not take the rationale from my primary care and dropped him. Now I wait another 4 months until another doctor is assigned to me. I can barely keep from yelling most of time

A-Fib people need to do a Cardioversion. Don't
hesitate, do this procedure SOON! YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID! No more sick feeling inside. No more out of breath. Quality of life has increased significantly for me. Dofetilide and Eliquis. That along with the brief electrocardioversion.
All the staff at this hospital CARE! Also a nice modern facility, and clean.

This place is going to get me killed because they won t do their job. Dr jay (his last name, not first name) and his social worker do not care to treat their patients and all they say is give the meds time. No help, no compassion for real people.

Definitely the best VA I've been to out of the 4 others that have seen me. I've been able to make same day/walk in appointments with my primary care provider for minor issues. Appointments for MRI have been very good. Specialty clinics are a little hit or miss, but I'd say still above the VA average I've experienced.

The representatives for the VA even made the effort to come to my schools student veteran group and talk to us about VA issues. They also respond to social media messages, and the few times I've had issues they were genuinely interested in helping me resolve it.

Overall very happy with the care I've received, and this VA has been a large factor in keeping me in MSP.

The staff of the VA hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota are amazing. From the lady who checked me in at the ER desk, to the gentleman that pushed me in a wheelchair from the ER to dermatology to all of the wonderful professionals that helped me during my visit, I couldn't be more satisfied with my VA experience or more proud of the thoughtful and caring people who work and volunteer at the VA.

Every visit to the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital for care has been exemplary. They took care of my vision and hearing needs in a professional, and courteous manner, even adjusting my eyeglass frames as needed.I was provided with a CPAP machine and given an informative class on usage yesterday and now have a new quiet modern machine which is remotely monitored and adjusted as necessary.A great improvement over my old noisy unit.I really can not thank the VA staff enough for their wonderful service.David Dumford USAF veteran

Love the service here.Appointment were scheduled with travel and time considerations in mind. The VA runs as good as any major hospital. I Enjoyed all of the staff. Did have a problem with getting an ID. but talk to the supervisor and it was corrected almost instantly. I want to Thank everyone that works there! Keep up the good work!

I have always had outstanding care. I spent eight weeks in the Mpls VA hospital with pancreatitis. Depending on my condition I was moved from ward to ward and ICU to ICU and the genuine care, respect and compassion given to me was amazing. My experience was the best care possible.

Exceptional care by staff and ficility. It is an honor to be a veteran and be taken care of so well. With all the men and women that go through this system daily, it is like I'm the only one there for the amount of care and respect that I get. All I can say is THANK YOU!

I've had all kinds of care at this VA, surgeries, skin cancer care, 3 week in patient stays and whole lot more.
It has always been adequate, with none of the problems some of the other scandal ridden VA's around the country have had.
I feel very lucky to have served in the United States Navy and earned this benefit.
I an so glad I don't have to deal with the Affordable Care Act!

I was so pleased to see so many positive reviews of the Minneapolis Hospital. I feel exactly the same. My personal experience deals with a lifelong (ever since childhood) case of clinical depression. In my earlier years, if would come and go; as I aged, it became more frequent. Finally, (I think it was 1999 or maybe 2000), the depression settled in to stay, and it was horrible.

I'd spent a lot of time and money in and out of civilian hospitals; I'd tried many medications; but nothing would help. The Minneapolis VA hospital found the right combination of meds (not even in high doses!), and I finally had a life. This was roughly 17 years ago, and I continue to be well -- no more depression.

Shortly after, a civilian eye doctor found an anomoly in one of my eyes. I couldn't see it; he could, using his instruments; but he didn't know what it was. Again, the Minneapolis VA came to my rescue, and diagnosed the problem immediately. Better yet, it wasn't really a problem. It was an innocuous "freckle" 'way back in my eye. Now, the VA checks my vision, and especially the "freckle," once per year, just in case there would be a change. So far there's been no change, so that's good news.

I've only been here once to provide transportation for a Marine Veteran. I was impressed by the cheerful and helpful nature of all the staff. It's a huge facility, but there was always someone to point us in the right direction.

The VA Medical Center has been the EPI center of my health care for the past 14 plus years. Service when at this facility has been nothing more than the greatest. When you call depending on the day or the time you may encounter things or issues that you don't know how to handle. I've taken a few issues to the Patient Advocacy Office on a few items that needed immediate attention. Example: Getting Refills and cancelling refills with out you aware until its too late. This is one issue that should never happen. The doctor sees you, goes over the drug list, should be able to tell when the dates are going to cease and your next appointment. This is one of the biggest issues I've come across. There has to be a method, a means of training to the physician to ensure they remember to check as well. We the patients are excited we are getting seen and at times will miss a particular topic or med. Even so, there should be a means of having a quality check. Why not the nurses? Or the Clinic staff at the counter. Want to know more, invite me to the next clinical staff meeting for open forum. I used to run clinics and emergency rooms. I don't know everything but I think the oblivious is being missed.

Quite simply, this place saved my life and continues to do so to this day.
I have a rare form of Cancer called Plasmoblastic Lymphoma (NH - Stage 4) that literally had me lying on my deathbed.
For no other reason than it MIGHT work The VA doctors went ahead and began treating me with a Chemotherapy regime called EPOCH.
It was not unlike putting Oil into a car with a blown engine hoping it might start. (Oh, that's 10-20 thousand dollar a pint oil BTW)
I do believe, to this day that any other hospital would have made the the much more fiscally sound and justifiably prudent decision to give me palliative care and let me die with the week.
My cancer went into remission and stayed that way for 18 months, !8 of the best months of my life.
Yeah, it's come back, but we caught it early enough to knock it back down with the DHAP chemo regime and I'm eligible for a bone marrow transplant next year.
Thanks to the VA I have a fight chance for a quite a few more good years.

I can t say enough good things about the care and treatment my brother has received at the Mpls VA over the years. All of the staff have been helpful and friendly. It gave him a great deal of comfort to know he could always get top notch care there. Thank you for always honoring our veterans.

If only I could give a negative star review. An operator was unbelievably rude to me. & when I requested to make a formal complaint; he rufused to give me any information so I could get in touch with his superior, nor his name so I could file a formal complaint. Then he told me that he was going to "flag my file for attitude" and also that he was "wasting his time talking to me". He said that I could try and file a complaint against him, but it would never get back to him. Needless to say, this Minneapolis VA operator, working at 1459 on 24July2017, was quite a gentleman to this United States Marine Corps Veteran.

I have moved here from West Palm Beach FL and the care here is much better. In FL I was lucky to get my teeth cleaned once a year let alone have something major done. Meanwhile the VA has already done 2 implants and did a great job. For the most part everyone is helpful and caring. The only problem is the long wait to get a appointment (over 30 days) and that they need more people to answer the phones. Every time I call I am on hold for 20 to 30 minutes.

My experience with the community care program is nothing but a nightmare. ive been waiting for an eye exam and new glasses since April. In June they refered me to a eve doctor that hadnt practiced in 20 yrs. ive left numerous messages to deaf ears. I finally had to go to a eye doctor and pay for it out of my own pocket. What a JOKE this is. These people get paid to take care of VETS and they do nothing to help. Maybe they should be replaced by caring workers that will return calls and HELP. IM not critisizing the whole VA system, My local VA in Hibbing is outstanding

I have been here multiple times for my care over the years and I've always been given the highest level of care. The wait times can sometimes be long but that's to be expected with the volume of patients they have.

I just moved here from the Louisville VA system and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. Very rude people answering the phone system who act like I should know how the moving to a new facility process goes. I even had a person today when calling to set up my initial appointment for family care say have a great day at the end of our appointment schedule that was handlers by her acting like it was painful to make my appointment. She called me back and said you hung up before o could ask you another question. My bad I thought have a great day was the end of our conversation. I don't force you to have your job. Don't treat me like garbage.

My husband had 4 different kinds of Cancer in 10 years. He passed away in Dec, 2016. Each time he was hospitalized he received excellent care. His last hospitalization lasted 10 months. He stayed in the extended living community because he was so very sick. The staff there was wonderful. They allowed him to make all the decisions about his care and hospice. After he passed they allowed me to stay with him in his room for over two hours. As I took his last walk with him, his body was covered with the service flag, people lined up in the hallway and atrium. They saluted him and hugged me and I cried and cried. It was such an honorable way to say goodbye to him. I will never forget what his last walk together meant to us.

Free or nearly free hollistic medical care for vet...

Free or nearly free hollistic medical care for veterans and family members. Well, almost hollistic. There is no OBGYN for pregnant ladies, but the VA may be able to pay for all or some of the services provided by an outside (civilian) providers.

They also provide a variety of programs such as Yoga for women veterans, weight loss program (MOVE) to name a few. The cafeteria is alright, although it could use a lot more healthier options instead of oily or deep fried foods. Parking are also scarce so avoid arriving at the last minute for an appointment. Plan a few minutes ahead to allow yourself plenty of time to find parking.

Thank you for your service,
Tala

And thank you to all caregivers, spouses, and VA staff members for their hard work and support.

This place is awesome unless you need to got to orthopedics... every single appointment I've had for them I've had to wait and hour to an hour and a half after my scheduled appointment time. It's very frustrating and if I didn't have to come here I wouldn't. I have missed multiple appointments because of them!

Im on the 3rd floor of the VA made to wear a mask to enter the building yet numerous staff have been walking down the hall not wearing there masks or even having one. Obviously other staff see these people unmasked but they saynothing. Many veterans are elderly and being potentially exposed to COVID19 by the very people that are supposed to be helping them with there healthcare we have to have a mask on to get in but for the VA to not mandate and uphold the staff wearing masks 100 percent is putting Veterans especially elderly veterans at risk.

Absolutely 5 stars! I have several serious conditions including COPD and mental health. I have found the staff to be very attentive to my needs, very professional, and I never have experienced any delays in receiving treatment. My understanding is that the Minneapolis VA Medical Center is one of the top 5 in the country. That rating is well deserved!

The VA has failed my husband. After serving 12 years active duty and recently transitioning to the Minnesota Guard he was given unnerving results on an MRI of his cervical and lumbar spine. On top of the chronic pain he essentially can be paralyzed in a short period of time and is experiencing neuropathy and foot drop. The VA has continued to loose his paperwork getting him into a Neurosurgeon for the past 7 weeks! He even went to the emergency room where he was told a specialist needed to see him. Veterans choice and the VA will not give him an answer or referral and continues to give him the run around. He is the father of three children and has served multiple tours overseas. This kind of treatment of our soldiers and veterans is despicable. Not only is he suffering but his three children ages 11, 8 and 9 months don't have their father after all his years of service! I am horrified this type of treatment continues. The most disturbing part, my husbands thoughts on this subject "no wonder so many vets resort to suicide....."

I wanted to change from the Shakopee MN clinic to the Minneapolis VA. I needed to make an appt for some issues I have been having. Was transferred to three people as it seems like it s an act of god to change clinics. I have to do a New Patient appointment to change clinics and the soonest I can get in is in October!! So I guess I am seeing a private doctor for my issues instead of the VA. Though I will still have to do the New Patient appt to change clinics. So now I have to wait for someone to call me back. Last time I waited for a call back, it was almost a month.

I've always dreaded going to the VA - my main experiences were the ones in Hampton, VA, but moving here to minneapolis, i've only had amazing care from support staff and medical staff. They work with my schedule, and do what helps me - not just give me check in the box treatment and kick me out.
