The Minneapolis VA canceled all appointments for m...

The Minneapolis VA canceled all appointments for months. Now after waiting two years waiting for dental care my tooth has fallen out and the VA is using our care to manipulate veterans to be forced to take a covid test or we cannot receive medical care. With a 99% survival rate why are veterans with no symptom having their care denied unless they take a covid test. With zero symptoms no exposure ever and perfectly healthy? This is a violation of our right to deny any tests or vaccines. To have our care denied because they want to force us to take a test we don t need is illegal. Forcing tests and care on veterans they don t need or did not request and have refused is wrong There are zero cases contracted by dental fillings and they are the only ones trying to force veterans to take covid test or we are denied care. I have been in pain for two years and they have done nothing but deny and delay my dental care. Now I need emergency care as my tooth which was supposed to be filled a year ago has fallen out and unless I take a covid test I m being denied emergency dental care. The VA has forgotten that they get paid to care for us not force medical experiments and testing on veterans who decline for religious or personal reason as are within our rights. Again with zero symptoms they force veterans with severe breathing obstructions to wear masks as well they don t care if we cannot breath. All this for a severe cold. I understand for Ill patients with symptoms but masks on healthy people only make you sick especially if you can t breath. When did our rights disappear? It clearly states in the constitution no one may create rules that abridge our constitutional rights and they have been doing it for months. This is wrong.

I use to work here and I have to say their Dietary Department is not very friendly towards Veterans. I even left a letter with the director but was ignored. But I'm glad to see that they are doing a great job with caring for veterans at least.
No need to be sorry if course this is an automatic response. I was pretty much blacklisted after that.

Very impressed with the Mpls VA Hospital. I brought my husband into emergency and he was seen and diagnosed quickly. Surgery was needed same day. Each and every nurse, doctor and staff member that we interacted with were incredible to us both. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

Outstanding care. The same equipment, providers and procedures as any other clinic in the twin cities. The staff makes the difference. Any problems the VA has is on the admin side, not the patent care side.

The orthopedic department is a joke. 3 months and 3 appointments and they never did anything about my shoulder. They just kept talking and wanting more exams. Worst department ever. Scheduling anything here is a nightmare as well. I called PT on Monday to reschedule my appointment that was on Friday, and they didn't call until after my original appointment was over....

I have a multitude of medical issues and I am seen at this facility quite often. I want to tell everyone that I have never had a bad experience here. The Doctors, Nurses, and Staff are always polite, professional, and take the time to explain things and answer your questions. If it weren t for the Mpls VA Medical Center and the Montevideo VA Clinic, I wouldn t be here today. They diagnosed my cancer 12 years ago and knew exactly what and how to take care of it.

Today 6-18-2018 I called nurse line from home in Rochester MN. Gave him my husband's symptoms. He told me to get him up to the VA ER right away. Told them I was instructed to bring him immediately. Arrived at 10, still waiting at 12:08.
Called nurse again. Said to ask to speak with a charge nurse. 45 minutes later, no nurse to talk to me yet.
Receptionist checking people in is very rude!
If she doesn't like her position, get a different one.

Same with Dr. Maghali. Just got into a room after a 3 hour wait in the ER waiting room. She came in and was very rude and insensitive. The nurses are the only ones that have treated us like humans, not a nuisance.

She also said, "if he were admitted he'd be transferred out, to not sure where because they have no beds left here."

I will continue to post updates of the crappy way we have been spoken to, and treated throughout the day today....
Stay tuned......this may not be the only place published.....

I love the Minneapolis VA. I never really appreciated it until I moved to phoenix. Now I think the Minneapolis VA should be used as a model for the rest of the nation. Are you unhealthy? Do not retire to phoenix. regards

I spent four months at the Minneapolis VA after "Life Saving" emergency surgery. The Minneapolis VA is 2nd to none. During that 4 months and in subsequent visits I have not met anything but caring Staff, Doctors and Nurses. Signs are posted in all the waiting rooms that if you have to wait 30 min. beyond your scheduled appointment please contact the ward desk. The Hospital itself is beautiful. One of, if not the best, in the United States. During the day the Emergency Room is always filled and patients are triaged like any other Emergency Room in the United States. Waiting times are much better than County Hospitals in Minnesota. Even the large Trauma Centers Like the County Hospital in Minneapolis. Now they have installed a new parking ramp that does away with the parking problems noted in some of the other reviews. All in all the Minneapolis VA is one of the best VA Hospitals in the Nation. Yes we vets served and should have respect and the medical benefits offered by the VA but we should also show appreciation for the fine Medical Services the Minneapolis VA provides. All at no cost to the Vet.

Excellent service, treatment and appointment scheduling. I've had no problems with this facility over the many years and types of treatment that I've received. Considering that it is a FREE service provided to us veterans, that is amazing.

I am unlucky enough to be old and not too healthy, so I have had a lot of experience with various hospitals and clinics in the Twin Cities area.

Without a doubt, and with no close second, the VA Center gives me the best care.

Example? I was in the VA pulmonary clinic, and the pulmonary physician asked who had been treating me at Hennepin Faculty Associates (This clinic is rated highly). The VA physician said, "Yes, I know that doctor. He was one of my students."

That's typical of what I've encountered at the VA Medical Center. It makes me happy that I am a vet, and that I live close enough to the VA Medical Center.

U.S.Marine here (1st.Recon.93-96): Totally different health care experience! Although being a Marine will always be who I am, treatment from the Minneapolis V.A. has enabled me to go to school; to learn skills, be somebody other than what we are. I feel honored, respected, and that my service related medical needs have been/are met - the way every Vet. should be taken care of.
Sincerely: Thank you to ALL of you for your service in serving us. It matters! Over-and-out...

After trying urgent care twice closer to home and being shrugged off and sent home, my husband went here as a last try and finally got an actual diagnosis, and was produced actual care. Thank you!

I came to help my father with his appointments. There was not one person we came into contact with, who genuinely did not want to help. It was a great experience. I am thankful that my father has such a great place for care!!

Simply outstanding.

Simply outstanding.
I'm considering moving closer to family in North Carolina. The thing holding me back, primarily, is this wonderful VA hospital. Since moving here in 03, I have received outstanding care. I have no idea how they do it, but this first-class facility is modern and the first-rate people have work here have treated me like a dignitary every time I walk (hobble or was carried) in the door. Everyone, (from the volunteers pushing wheelchairs to the extraordinary surgeon that restored twenty years to my life, ) have treated me with respect, kindness and professionalism far beyond my expectations. I make a point of saying this to everyone I see, while I'm in the hospital. Sixteen years of extraordinary and exceptional medical care. Thank you VA Minneapolis.

My son needs back surgery, a fusion etc. He was told this a month ago and is still waiting for the scheduler to call and set up the appt. My son called many times and is in alot of pain and was told a couple days ago the doctors have not discussed it yet. VERY frustrating! !!

Timely and quality care with thorough, friendly, and joyful medical staff. I've heard many stories of fellow veterans from other VA centers have far less than acceptable care. This VA facility is probably one of the best in the nation!

I love the VA. The doctors and nurses are professional, friendly and careing. The receptionists respond to the attitude of the person who confronts them. If you are a surly a-hole you will treated accordingly

I've received nothing but poor service and generally rude people when dealing with this facility. I'm originally from Iowa and had to go to this facility for an appointment. The staff that I seen did not provide adequate results to me personally.I've since tried to call in and inquire about my travel pay and have been given nothing but the runaround. I'm on my fourth fax to the travel pay office. When you call them they are extremely rude about answering my questions. I just recently seen a report on the news about VA hospitals and how this is one of the worst now I understand why.

I am only trying to comment on your answering system, which I listened to for about 20 minutes before being connected to the party I was trying to reach. I can believe you have a wonderful health care system, but the tape I listened to while waiting sounded like a very disinterested person with maybe broken up music or something in the background telling me how important i was....you know, the normal waiting message. Please listen to your message and update it to echo the quality of your institution. Thank you

I haven't been an inpatient there. As an outpatient, I couldn't be more pleased with the service and the quality of the staff there. A-1 people in my opinion

Sincerely,

Robert H. Galloway

After having just spent 8 days in an "isolation" room undergoing aggressive chemotherapy, my husband has nothing but PRAISE for all of the medical staff who administered to him. The nurses were kind, friendly, and extremely helpful and really helped to keep his spirits UP! The doctors took great care in choosing the best treatment for his particular type of cancer. They were very clear in explaining the various steps as they proceeded, and listened to any concerns he had. Both he and I are VERY grateful to them all!

One star only for the nurses and aids, zero for the doctor. Saw a Dr. Seema Maddali for extreme back , neck and leg pain.If the exam lasted 5 mins I would be surprise. Showed no professionalism, courtesy or concern. She didn't explain the medication that she prescribed. Didn't help. I have cancer and other medical issues. With a prescription I was out the door. The ER was not busy that night nurses were stand around. Thank God I have OPM insurance and can go some where else. I feel sorry for those vets that have only the VA for an option. Is this the best the VA can do for doctors??? I see why so many Viet Nam vets are killing them self's with this kind of [care?]. Thanks to the nurses, aids and staff for your professionalism.

The Minneapolis VA is the best medical care I have ever had. Pain clinic, 2 knee surgeries, general care all the best. The few complainers I have run into haven't explained their needs and had poorly explained issues.

Amazing, these people have saved my life. I used to live in South Carolina and it literally felt like a third world country. Here in MN the VA is so clean, the staff are more empathetic, everything is just better up here in the north!

The leading VAMC facility for TBI treatment and research, it has literally been a lifesaver for folks. I personally use the dual-diagnosis ARS (Addiction Recovery Services), and my life has been saved. What they treat runs the entire gamut- if you are struggling, or just want to speak with a caring professional, please don't hesitate to drop by. :-)

Took my spouse in with abnormal cardiac symptoms and they did the standard run of the mill testing. However, the bedside manner was much to be desired...everyone except the XRay team. His symptoms had subsided and basically told him he was wrong it isn't his heart because nothing reflected it despite what had happened this morning. A nurse said "Good news is, it isn't your heart!" And sent us away. The tech looked at the EKG and diagnosed it as normal. Wrong credentials!
It would be nice to know they didn't loathe their jobs....robots!

For the most part the Minneapolis VAMC is a good place for White People. It s staff is predominantly White, from top to bottom.
Many Black and Brown people are not included as reflected in their leadership pipeline and hiring practices.

Never once in the 10+ years of going here have I received any type of care I would consider "good." The staff is rude, doctors are rude and don't give you any time day. It has always been a nightmare. I very grateful I qualify for community care, otherwise not 1 of health issues would have been found and addressed. Of I could give 0 stars or less I would.

This is one of the best hospitals in the country. I believe they're rated #2 in the country at the moment. I have had several operations here and have always been treated like a king. I would put my life in their hands for any medical reasons. It doesn't take a long time to get an appointment or to be seen by a Doctor. All in all this is the place for Veterans.

The call center is BS. I live in rochester but I have to make a 3-5 min phone call to Minneapolis just to be transferred to Rochester. I used to just be able to call my outpatient clinic directly. I was happy now if I want to talk to my provider I make the call and the are given 48 hours to call back. What if 48 is too long? Glad trump signed the bill to allow veterans to go to privatized healthcare options. (The right to try) Hopefully I can use a different facility away from the VA. VA better start looking in the best interest of veterans. Maybe when veterans start leaving the VA under this new law, better support will come in.

The phone system at VA MPLS is horrible. After getting a great consult and timely service on an authorization for special shoes at the clinic in Rochester MN. I was under the illusion that the VA actually worked. This was 8 Feb. It was not until 16 Feb that i could get through to podiatry in MPLS. I spent at least three hours on the phone in voice mail jail and was disconnected at least five times. In addition the music is warped scratchy and plain terrible. I let three messages with Mike Rosecrans to return my call all to no avail, he is masquerading as a veterans advocate and should be replaced and now.It is a pitiful situation when the good work of staff nurses and doctors is negated by the incompetent and disinterested leaders who cannot fix a phone system. If this was a private business it would not exist for six months. I have given decades of my life to veterans and veterans advocacy, am a member of most key veterans organizations and am embarassed, angry, and demand that Kelly fix this problem or get out of the way and let somebody in that can. Veterans and their families reading this MUST DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY and leadership there must be replaced.

In response: My appt was just cancelled out of nowhere. I will not be seeking medical attention from the VA in MN.....11/18/17....Everyone was great except on nurse at the front desk in the Emeegency room. Very nasty and short. I was there for panic attacks and have never been treated like this of any VA Ive been. She is a fat slob who didnt have her name tag showing. She started asking me personal questions while in the lobby. I asked softly Do we really need to discuss this out here? She said "if u dont want to, fine!" And shoved the papers in the face of the admin beside her. Just nasty. The woman who called a week later to set up an appointment had a nasty attitude, also. Telling me my initial appt must be made in the a.m. I said well Im new to the city and get off mid afternoon and Im not avail til a certain time. She said Oh Ok, like, Oh Well. I hung up on her. The have continued to call. Not interested in receiving anymore care at this facility than I have to. Ive heard this VHA had a low employee satisfaction rate. I believe it. Everyone else, security, eligibility/enrollment staff, and the other depts I went to including Womens Health and Primary care were pretty awesome. Def second worse experience Ive ever had at a VA as a veteran of nearly 20 years.

Worst experience I have ever had! Each and every time gets worse. No one knows anything about anything. You ask a question and they tell you to call a number. Drove twice to get an ID card both times the only machine they have was down both times! GretG way to treat veterans who have earned the so called VA BENEFITS! Not sure where the benefits are!?
