Eaten with 150 people, ran like a spear and the food really good

Van Puffelen has a good menu with lots of choice, the food is of excellent quality, the service is decent and it is very suitable for large groups. The desserts are also very tasty. However, I did not find it different from similar pubs / restaurants; therefore 4/5.

My friend and I had some issues with setting a reservation and their communication to the public is very poor. One afternoon, looking for lunch during their business hours, we were told that the restaurant was closed for a private event. But, there was no signage or communication of any kind to inform us of this. Then, when we went back another day, we found that their lunch menu was much more limited and far less interesting than the one posted on their website. Food in Amsterdam can be a bit pricey, and it just wasn't worth it, so we left.

I don't really like giving single star reviews, but when management consciously decides to offer a terrible service. It deserves this. The place was totally understaffed or overbooked. We had to wait an hour for our starter and another hour for dinner. Both times we had to ask when we would get served.

Besides all the waiting, items from the small menu, were sold out/ not available. The wine is served in little clumsy glasses. Nearing the end of this disaster, they couldn't even coordinate the deserts. My wife had already long finished her desert when finally mine was served. See the picture. I had all the time to take ;-)

Our Neighbours got a 20% discount for the bad service when they complained. We did not complain, just mentioned the we weren't very satisfied ... and so we did not get a discount.

So a well deserved 1* review. You won't find me here ever again and I would advise you to go elsewhere. There are enough restaurants that value their guests and offer you a great meal and an enjoyable night out.

First we drank a delicious cocktail right on the canal and then had a delicious meal in the restaurant. Delicious pulpo with risotto and very tasty sea bass. Nice and brisk service. It was a very successful evening, we will definitely be back!

Wow that was good. I had the smoked duck salad, the wolf fish, and the Apple crumb cheesecake.
