Went to the JC Penny store. Had a great shampoo, haircut, and style in the Salon. My go-to hairdresser is Mehea, who I have followed from 2 previous shops. The cost is quite high, at least for a senior on Social Security, but not too bad for 3-month intervals.

After my beautifying, it's hard not to go shopping in the rest of the store, because I always feel so good.

I'm a plus-size women. About 2 years ago, Penny's moved all the larger clothes to the second floor. Initially, I was angry because I have mobility issues and was insulted that I had to go farther away than the rest of the women's clothing. I refused to shop the store for a long time.

Only this spring (2018) did I decide to visit that department...requiring riding the elevator and walking half the length of the store to reach the clothes. This is the only option if you have a stroller or wheelchair. Another possibility is to travel that same distance to the escalator, which is a problem if you already have items since they can't go by escalator.

The plus-size department itself is nice, offering a wide range of clothing with more style than before. The best part is the Clearance area with usually high discounts. There are also sales, although they are sometimes tied to the total of your purchases. Ex. 40% off if you buy $50th worth.

On suggestion: it would be great if there were 1 or 2 benchs throughout the dept. for us to rest a moment between searches. Most women in plus-sizes get hot/sweaty, tire easily, and sometimes, get breathless from standing for long periods. Providing seating would aid in getting our second wind to do more shopping.

It's fine, there were 2 Forever 21's for whatever reason, and the place was crowded as all hell. I only went to Spirit Halloween, Elephant Trunk, Hot Topic, and Gamestop and was thoroughly disappointed by all but one, which was ET, a pretty cute, little toy store which I had a nice time walking around in. The center itself is alright, but it's a mall, so most things in the mall were quite low quality and expensive.

Great mall with many clothing stores to choose from. The variety of department to boutique is great. It does have a theater to see movies is a plus. And even a Toystore which doesn't seem like much but in this day and age an actual toy store is a rare find. If you want children toys you'll often need to go to ToysRus or Amazon. The mall has a food court with some fast food chain and other random unique food options. Though random at the time of this review they had a place dedicated to just boba tea and all sorts of options and flavors.

The mall is good, but the best thing is that when I come to Eugene 3 or 4 times a year I can park my RV for two nights. The RV parking area is excellent being near the river and bike path. Security guards are frequent and very polite. I would suggest putting in a dozen electric outlets, charging 20/night (with approved credit card) and allowing up to a week per paid spot. RVers would love it, they have more discretionary spending ability than most people and like going into the mall and it would make security even better. . Diversification and audience attraction is necessary for bricks and sticks businesses as Amazon continues to destroy the old models of retail.

Valley River Center is experiencing a renaissance during a time when many shopping malls around the country are ghost towns. Though the food court does leave a bit to be desired there are many attractions to recommend the mall. Of note is Adventure Children's Museum, a local non profit museum which brings learning and fun together for children of all ages. I tend to avoid the movie theater at this mall due to a lack of recliners, which are available at the Gateway mall movie theater.

I'm not big on malls but as this one goes it's fine. It would be really nice if they turn something in this city into an outside mall like in Santa Monica. But it took about 25 years to figure that out!
Always like the Valley River movie theaters!

Valley river center is a very poor mall. The play area for kids is always crazy busy with teenagers who are jumping around and being rowdy. I can't let My kids play because I am afraid they will get hurt. Won't be back to this mall.

As time goes by, the Valley River Center is slowly losing the attraction of the variety of customers it used to have. Most of the stores only carry a single variety of goods that are overpriced. The security staff are more interested in giving you a dirty look than actually providing assistance with anything. The mall is so desperate for business they will allow the least desireable businesses to open stores within the mall just because they can, rather than choosing businesses people are actually interested in shopping at.

Our group hit up the food court and then spent most of the day shopping in JCPenney.
I m always disappointed with how many sections of the food court are shut down but what is in there is good and there really are plenty of options.
