Delicious small plates and excellent wine selection, beautiful outdoor dining area

One of our favorite Walnut Creek restaurants. Generally busy, so reservations are recommended. The food is great (small bites) so the wife loves it!!! For me I have to eat a few more extra small plates (nothing like a burger place), but great overall, very clean restaurant, bathroom facilities, small but sufficient enough sized bar, customer service is good, but a little booze', but they have a wonderful wine list that seems to be toward Europe with a few American wines.

Highly recommend checking out. A great date place, but men dress up in a nice collar shirt, becuase everyone else is.

Went over the weekend for dinner. Had to sit inside due to the bad air quality. We ordered Alaskan cod, Korean chicken wings, Mac and cheese, steak and pavolas potatoes. Everything tasted pretty good. Even kids loved it. For dessert we had the sampler for two and all four of them were awesome. I don't like chocolate but chocolate souffle was great. Espresso to end it. Service was good. Definitely a place to come back to.

Food was wonderful. Vibe and decor was inviting, rustic, and provided the perfect intimate setting.

Would give it 5 stars but the deserts were not very good. Drinks and food were great! Cozy outdoor seating and service was wonderful.

Simply amazing. If I'm breaking keto, it's happening here. The crispy lechon is one of the best small plate items I've ever had. Their fries are amazing, crispy, salty, and garlicky. Love this place.

Very creative small bites and good selection of wine flights. Excellent outdoor seating in the summer. To my last server: please pour my wine. I paid 3X markup for it.

Absolutely gorgeous outdoor sitting. I'm not a big fan of inside, it's kind of dark but outside is perfect design and execution. It is a pricy restaurant even for lunch. But everything we tasted was perfectly flavored and cooked. We had shrimp and grits, fettuccini and fillet something. The service was also fast and friendly. It is some place to go again and again, if you can afford;)

A fantastic place for an intimate family dinner- the food, the atmosphere- delicious, magical and simply perfect.

It's all about the goat cheese, sliders, and Alaskan cod.

The food was phenomenal, I absolutely love tapas places in general. My wine selection was delightful. Great amount of options. My only complaint is service left something to be desired, except the hostess, she was great. I d still return however, food is worth it.

Really nice, atmosphere is great and so cute! Wine list is pretty good and food delicious. Service is excellent and bistro is placed downtown in the center, easy to park by the theater.

Excellent variety of delicious food. The Va de Vi restaurant has an incredibly delightful outdoor seating area between brick buildings. I was seated looking South towards a very old but beautiful oak tree. Next to the oak tree is the fish pond full of incredibly big koi fish and some box turtles. What a delightful place to eat. The menu has a large variety of interesting and delightfully prepared food. I highly recommend this restaurant for the ambiance and the food which not only tastes good but looks like a work of art. Enjoy a delightful meal here at Va de Vi.

They have done a great job with the outside dining part of the business given the pandemic situation.

Great food,wine,service ok. There was no contact info on website, or I would've emailed this. The pond in the front looks like no one has cared for it in quite a while. There's a once was beautiful dead koi fish floating. It was disturbing. Please learn how to care for this pond and the fish you put in it.

I simply enjoy their dishes. I always get fantastic service there. The place is always clean and the workers are always kind. I highly recommend this place.

One of the first dates my husband and I went on was to Va de Vi. We both love this place. It's a great place to come for a nice lunch, or if youre going out with friends. You can share small plates or each order your own - and their food is terrific.

Your wait on the weekend will be close to half an hour without a reservation, but it's well-worth it. Especially if you get one of their adorable outdoor patio tables. Water fountains and decorative lights in the trees - it's wonderful!

Service is great and there's a hard-working gentleman (manager/owner?) that is always there when I'm there overseeing the staff and keeping things running smoothly.

My favorite dishes to share are the blistered shishito peppers and the garlic fries. The meat charcuterie plate and cheese plates are also fantastic group dishes.

My group of 7 girlfriends was out last weekend celebrating 3 of our birthdays. The 6 other girls were here from out of town and we waited about 40 minutes for our table once we put our name in. Before we were seated inside I let the hostess know we were celebrating birthdays (my birthday is in two days, another girl's bday is tomorrow, and 1 of our party had hers last week). She said she'd let our waitress know, but either she forgot or our waitress forgot, because after our plates were licked clean and every last drop of cocktail and wine were finished, we paid a bill of over $200 and left without even a verbal "happy birthday" acknowledgment. (For the size of our group that bill was extremely reasonable and we were happy with every dish/plate/drink and the service). But wished our celebrations had been acknowledged. We actually weren't even offered a dessert menu to look at.

Wow! What a place - great food, smart portions, great wines, perfect outdoor setting.
Our server, Heather, took great care of us while celebrating a milestone...will certainly make this a regular visit when travelling to this part of the country!

All time favorite restaurant. I like that the menus change a bit throughtout the years. Tapas style so you can share and try more dishes. A bit expensive but worth it. Indoor seating can be a bit tight. Outdoor seating is better when available.

This place was pretty impressive and priced reasonably in WC with the type of food. The grilled octopus served with potatoes and chorizo was amazing. Next time I'll just order two. The burger was decent and had flavor. We were disappointed with tomato risotto but wasn't bad. Still 5 stars and we'll be back. Friends recommended cod here as well.

Found this place due to the unusually high rating and I'm glad I did. Dining was outside in a type of alleyway leading the the main side entrance. Tables were well spaced and staff was very attentive.

Burata was fresh, mushroom poutine amazing with the smokiness of the mushrooms winning me over. Tried the fettuccine and this was even better being homemade, spicy with great texture. Finished off the excursion with a simple cookie and ice cream (not gelato). Cookie was a bit hard with not enough chocolate chips but the ice cream was really fresh and unique for a simple vanilla.

I would be happy to come here every day just got the poutine and fettuccine as they are perfection. Also the wine selection is insane here and I love that they offer flights to sample them.

This is a place that should not be passed up, added to my favorites.

Everything on the menu is $8 to $16 and the food was so good they could charge twice as much for it. Wonderful menu. If I lived near here, I would come here every week!

We went for our anniversary. We did mention anniversary but we were seated quite busy tiny seats. Their food is ok, their ingredients are sometime eye opening...like sea beans.. but it wasn't so special. They do have nice selections of wine but unfortunately we don't drink. Very lively and loud I think outdoor seating are better if you want to hear what your date is talking about.

What an excellent experience. Very accommodating staff. Really good food, and do not skip the Tres Leches!

There are probably 2 restaurants downtown I would go to time and time again. Thank you va de vi for bringing sophisticated and simply delicious food to downtown - seriously. The truffle treviso risotto.........!!!!!! And they have so many red and white wine flights. This place is truly special!

Great atmosphere. We had appetizers and I had the beet salad which were all delicious.

Normally I would have posted a pic but food looked so good I couldn't stop. The service here is attentive. The place has an awesome feel to it.

If you're looking for an amazing wine and tapas place, you've found it!!! Small plates to share but big enough to share with another ! Tacos were amazing, as was the cod.. also got the fried chicken which was good but not as good as the tacos. Chacuterie on point which you choose what cheese and meat you want for 6$ each. Some may think it is pricey, but absolutely great quality! Dessert was peanut butter smores and profiteroles with coffee gelato. Will be back for sure!!

We've been coming here regularly for years and always love the experience. Constantly rotating menu with a fantastic wine list. Great people and ambiance!

Great ambiance outside in the alley or in the back around the tree with the sound of multiple water fountains. Took our kids here and sat out back by the tree.

Food was really good, but I felt way overpriced for their size tapas, so do get ready to spend! Note, 6 tapas for $90. Perhaps, I have high expectations and have been spoiled with excellent tapas throughout Spain? Here is an example, their cornmeal fried chicken was a very small sized thigh served over 2 tablespoons of fava bean succotash for $14. I mean it was tasty, but $14 dollar tasty? Uh...NO. If their dishes were priced $3-4 below, then I would probably be back.

We also had the grilled Spanish octopus, rigatoni bolognese, Roman style fried artichokes, pommes frites, shishito peppers, ahi tartare...I would recommend all of them.

Definitely quality over quantity, very filling though expecially with a dessert.

Fun place to go on the weekends. Wine flights are affordable and it's nice to go with friends and share lots of small plates. The cocktails are quite good too and I LOVE the profiteroles.

This is one of the best restaurants in Walnut Creek. The food is absolutely spectacular. Each dish is phenomenal its own right and even their drinks are some of the best in town. Be sure to make your reservation early if you want to eat at a popular time. This restaurant is quite small and fills up quickly.

I ordered black cod, the taste is O.K. but on the salty side.
If you like Black Cod, one should try Nami Nami in Moutain View.
The Gazpacho soup in a small shot glass about 30 c.c.
It is indeed a very small plate when they define the dish
as "Small" plate.
Nothing wrong with the service, if you are not hungry just want something
very small to munch on.

Love this place. Friendly atmosphere. Good food. Nice portions. Our waiter Bren was great. It was our 64th Anniversary and they helped celebrate. Beautiful night. We will be back and bring some friends.

This place is amazing! Staff is friendly and funny. Wine selection is delicious (actually take the time to read the menu. It s hytseical!) and the food is AMAZING! The carmalized bacon on the Mac and cheese! OMG so good! (Make sure you ask to add the bacon!)

Waiters usually give genuine recommendations. Soup shots are always good. This is the only place I will indulge in their garlic fries :-)

We had a family birthday celebration here in the evening and enjoyed great service and wonderful food in their lovely relaxed dining room. We each ordered two plates and a desert and were more than amply fed. My chicken curry and spring salad was incredible and I was told that the cod and salmon were equally good. My chocolate souffle was out of this world. Try this Walnut Creek classic restaurant.

Have come here many times but the last one was bad enough that it's going to be my last time there. The staff was awesome but the food wasn't quite what it used to be. The octopus wasn't octopus, it was a squid! The crispy beef belly wasn't crispy and so charred that it was bitter. The lechon was basically floating on sweet and sour sauce (yes, it seemed like bottled sauce too). Medium rare burger was purple (meaning it's uncooked). I used to love va de vi, the last time ruined it for me.

Don't go there often but it is a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself place. The food is awesome and the wines are great.

Best prices on crystal anywhere in california! awesome service and incredible wine tasting flights. highly recommend if you're in the area.
