1 star only because 0 is not an option. This also has nothing to do with patient care. The billing department on the other hand has some issues. Being a working family with insurance, and being sent to collections for an outstanding bill infuriates me. To compoud this when we call to discuss the issue the associate implied this to be our fault and that we had no money to pay. This, added with the attitude made for the worst experience I have ever had from a place that is supposed to care for people. Coincidentally between my wife and I we have over 15 years of experience working in hospitals.

I must say the doctors that I went to treated me very well and have no complaints about them. However I will not come back to this place because of their billing department. I have commercial health insurance and on three different dates of service they tried billing me for the provider discount the insurance had taken. I caught three of them but I am wondering now how many I didn't catch. These people are shady and it's just irritating how they tried to do this to people who actually pay for their health insurance. I guess this place is only good for people on Medicaid or Medicare.

I'm not sure what's going on with ophthalmology de...

I'm not sure what's going on with ophthalmology department. I went for my eye exam, paid my co pay. Got exam for glasses and contacts. About a week later received a bill for $75 for contact fittings. I had a follow up visit, which I should not been charged a co pay but I had to pay $35 for follow up. I tried to dispute it and I kept being told the insurance had changed. Even the Doctor agreed with me that i should have not been charged for either, it was covered by SuperiorVision. Verified with insurance and it had not changed. They finally admitted that I should have not paid for follow up. Requested that my $35 be refunded to directly. According to them they could not refund because I had a $75 balance. I made a claim with the insurance and received the money back. In the notes for the check it read: (PR-45) & (Co-45)"Charge exceeds fee schedule/maximum allowable or contracted/legislated fee arrangement". UT Health ophthalmology is over charging patient, many of whom are elderly. Taking advantage of people. They need to retrain or train correctly the person's working the in their department. They are overcharging , regardless what the insurance companies rules are. I do not recommend department to anyone or give this department any stars, I had to enter at least one star because it didn't let me post without. This department needs to be looked over and make sure it is following insurance policies and not overcharging customers.

overall it was very poor. The front desk people were rude and not very helpful. what bothers me a lot is that they told me that there was nothing they could do about the freezing cold air blowing in the room when I could very easily walked over to the temperature dial and could easily dial it to 72 degrees. the only upside is that the doctor that treated my mom was very nice and the assistant dr. kept my mom laughing

This review is for the billing department.

This review is for the billing department.

I do my best to pay my bills in full and when I can t, I call to make payment arrangements. I don t know about everyone else, but I have insurance with a high deductible and out of pocket maximum.

This billing department boggles the mind. I received a letter from a collections office that I had a bill that I had not made a payment for. The service was in February of this year for a total amount $600. I keep all correspondence from bills that I paid or am paying and not once did I receive a letter stating that I owed this amount. What kind of billing department doesn t send out bills?

This is not the first time they have pulled this shenanigan. I got them to admit in the previous billing conflict that they hadn t sent out a bill.

This is a shady practice of not sending a bill but sending my or our information to a collections agency. I take my credit score very seriously. I don t want it tainted because of a neglectful department/employee.

This department needs a quality audit. I am sure they would find many issues that need to be addressed but haven t been.

Sadly , very dissapointed in the doctors. Loved one battleing cancer was not taken cared of like we had hoped . The medication given for pain was the same as the kind an individual would take for minor injuries. We were upset the doctors weren t doing anything to help so decided to go to a hospital in Houston immediately . Once in Houston our loved one was hospitalized due to the severity of their condition and we were told this action should ve been taken months ago.

Checked with Cranial remolding Dept twice to make sure they took my insurance and I was told both times that they did. I made a two hour trip with my 6 month old twins just to be told that they didn t take my insurance and I would have to pay $6000 out of pocket. When mentioned that I had already submitted my insurance information to the department and was told it would be covered, they told me that they tell everyone that- his words come one, come all mentality. If I didn t have to spend 4 hours on the road with infants, this probably wouldn't have been a huge deal. Staff is full of incompetent people being extremely inconsiderate. I called Level 4 and they
took my babies in right away- verified insurance and we were on our way. Just FYI- HMO is not accepted at UT HEALTH SA! Don t fall for their scam.

I'm a student nurse at UT Health San Antonio and I love it. For those interested in a BSN this is a great school. The professors and clinical instructors are amazing people who truly care about your success as a future registered nurse. Clinical placements are sometimes unfortunately cancelled and the one in charge of that department rarely is helpful so 1/5 stars for that individual. Nonetheless, this is a wonderful place to start your nursing journey.

Came here for an eye appointment. Scheduled the appointment, and they charged me $100 more than they said their prices were a week ago. I said, really, your prices went up $100 in the last week? They said "yes". Then they tried to get me to do a simple test that I had the documents saying I already did the test. It was a $275 test on top of the regular exam that they charged me for, a test I had already done, and had the results on paper for them! When I called, the receptionist said there was no need for me to do the test again, but when I show up, they insisted that I do it again. They finally decided I didn't need to do it. I needed a paper filled out saying why I was out of work that day, the doctor said it would get filled out and returned. Then they tell me there's a $25 charge for that too?? For a place that receives a lot of grants, they sure are pricey and nickle and dime the heck out of you! For a Regular Eye Exam! I paid in full at the desk, then I get a bill in the mail saying I haven't paid! And it's for more money than I paid at the desk! Horrible service. Long wait times. What they tell you on the phone is completely different than what they tell you when you get there. Many hidden fees.

Horrible. Called and left messages for call back for 2 days. No response. Finally called dental school. Transferred me over and immediately they pick up. Won't take insurance and when asked for price quote, needed code. I have to get from dentist. When voiced concern over calling back and them not answering. She replied. We will call you back. Right. When he'll freezes over. Go somewhere else.

As a student here at the Health Science Center, I know the services can run a bit slow. My boyfriend recently developed some strange health condition, where after many general practice visits (outside of the UTHSC system) and even desperate visits to Mexico, we found our answer at University Hospital. Yes we waited 12 hours until we were seen. His case was more of a chronic "emergency" condition. As soon as they were able to finally screen him, his symptoms were recognized and tests were run immediately. He was admitted that night and was diagnosed and treated the next day. The bed side manner for the week he was there was unbelievably superb for the types of people attracted to this hospital! Very knowledgeable and passionate staff. If you can afford the wait, come here! Obviously, some conditions are acute and serious and require prompt care, but as for our experience, we are satisfied with the outcome. Now my boyfriend is on the road to recovery.

I used the dental school to make me a partial denture. The dentist I used before UTSA dental school was very expensive and I couldn't ware it without hurting even after several adjustments. The school only removed a small spur off of my partial. I love it and have been using it for over a year now with absolutely no problems.

As a patient, when it comes to billing, this place is the worst. I went to a follow up appointment that was for the surgeon's benefit and desires (he wanted after pictures), and he assured me that I would not be charged for the appointment. Of course I received a bill. Of course. I have called the billing office numerous times and have gotten nowhere. This is only the icing on the financial disaster they put me through after surgery a year ago. It has been nothing but problems. The billing system needs a serious overhaul. Aside from the billing problems and the surprise charges, the establishment is OK, but I would recommend patients go somewhere else if you want to heal without constant stress and headaches.

I made an appointment with. Supposed doctor specializing in otolaryngology. Was told my payment would be $161, because I had not met my insurance annual deductible . Paid the amount and saw Dr. Jason Young, a nurse practitioner. He simply referred me to another doctor who sees older patients with a cochlear implant . Was not knowledgeable nor helpful. I got nothing for my payment.

My 8-month (Sep 2015-May 2016) denture ordeal at t...

My 8-month (Sep 2015-May 2016) denture ordeal at the UT Dental School, San Antonio, TX, was an absolute nightmare & the dentures are a flop!!

The lab produced extremely poor work....they lost the dentures at the 4-month mark & the student had to start over.

He tried countless adjustments & corrections for another 4-months, but the lab workmanship was a complete failure.

I spent over 25 hours in the dental chair & about $1K in dental fees, many hours driving across town, gas/oil commuting costs, & parking fees.

All I have to show for my loss of time & money is a pair of unwearable, ugly, painfully-fitting Frankenstein dentures sitting in a purple denture cup
.
My husband also experienced major problems in being fitted for a crown (Fall 2015-Spring 2016).

His student took dental impressions several times, the lab lost them twice, & the crown was redone twice because of poor lab work.

The student dropped out of school at the mid-term, & nobody called to reschedule my hubby with another student for a couple of months to finish the dental work.

He spent countless hours in the dental chair, over $900 in dental fees, commuting time, transportation costs, & parking fees.

In the end, the crown was a good fit, but the loss of time & expenses was not worth the long wait & frustration for my hubby.

This group was highly recommended to me however, when I called to make an appointment I was treated EXTREMELY bad by the receptionists and was given contradicting information. How disappointing that this highly unprofessional behavior will affect my welfare since they would not give me the opportunity to make an appointment. Highly unprofessional and rude.

I am a student at this school and I feel blessed to have been taught such a wonderful staff. There are many opportunities to get involved with the community and treat patients early on in our medical careers, and I love the way medical ethics and compassion is stressed in our curriculum. Being a student here has been a gift.
