Hogel Zoo is a great place too take your family for some time together. They are always building something new, and the views from the enclosures are great. Not quite a world class Zoo, but I think that is because there is simply not enough land to expand. Top of its class for its size. Go all the time.

Beatiful animals with plenty of information posted around the zoo about how to get involved in conservation efforts around the globe. An amazing teaching experience, and one of the best places to spend time with the family while in Salt Lake. I recommend bringing lunch with you, as buying food there can get a bit steep.

Always a blast! Loads of baby animals to see right now so my kiddos love that. The train and carousel are open to riders and they have lots of hand sanitizer stations throughout the zoo. Masks are required at all times in the zoo but, a large number of persons weren't wearing them which was unfortunate. I myself am not huge believer of masks but when asked to wear one to keep fun places with lots of people around open...I'll make the sacrifice. Be safe my friends and enjoy.

We took our Daughter and 2 grandsons visiting from Ohio, they go to Hogle Zoo every year and the Zoo is much improved over the last few years. They fed the giraffes, enjoyed the snakes and big cats and ate ice cream cones.
I think admission is overpriced as are the concessions, train ride and carousel.
Don't go if you don't like being around lots of children and some annoying parents. Go early especially if the temperature is upper 80's or above, animal activity is slowed down and if it's crowded the heat makes it miserable.
The employees are very knowledgeable and pleasant, the park is clean and easy to navigate, with plenty of restrooms and drinking fountains! Very limited in expensive food options, so be prepared to spend your budget!
We stayed for 4 hours and that was plenty of time to get around and see everything including the 2 minute train ride.

My expectations were a bit too high for this attraction. I've been to the huge zoos and smaller ones of NYC but I've lived in Utah for 20 years so I thought I would have a look. The zoo is clean and it's clear it is taken care of but the size is dismally small and they have so few actual exhibits. There are no indoor building like other zoos have. Considering that we have an amazing aquarium in draper, why are they wasting space on an otter exhibit and a seal exhibit. The giraffes are the star of the show with a lonly zebra and the donkeys have been removed. The bear exhibit was empty and instead of putting a sign to let patrons know this you are treated to a search of an empty paddock. The zoo map is not current showing a path on the upper area that has been resigned but still remains on the park map. I think the zoo needs to relocate to a larger property if they want to be more of a standout in Utah.

Super fun, as always! Love all the exhibits and the new ones they have added recently. Food is a little but overpriced, which is okay and to be expected. You can always pack your own lunch, then enjoy all the sweets and treats they offer! Enjoyed as a kid and more than happy to bring my son now.

My family loves this zoo. So much fun and so many memories. Some of the animals can be hard to spot at times, but we have made a game of it, and when you find them, it is a sure treat!!! Definitely worth it. SO MUCH FUN!

Great zoo, just one issue. They are showing they want to be a green zoo, yet they drive around in gas golf carts right in front of the enclosures. You can smell exhaust heavily. No integrity in being an eco friendly zoo until those carts are changed out. And this is coming from someone who thinks tree huggers are full of themselves.

Outside that it s a great zoo, with good prices, and some fun experiences. I d happily change this review to 5 stars if it weren t for the gas carts.

The zoo is q great place. Even for a new couple, our a date. It's not just for little kids. The animals are wonderful. The new exhibit is exciting. There is so much to see! I'll go hack again this summer.

In short: Great zoo, clean, well cared for animals, and amazing staff.

Zoos can be very controversial, and with recent documentaries really showing the dark side of animals in captivity it can be hard to want to visit a zoo. But Hogle zoo does an excellent job of almost everything in their zoo. ***Note! To my knowledge, almost all their animals are rescues who can't make it in the wild***

You can see all of the animals, are well taken care of, well nourished with clean enclosures and zoo staff constantly caring for them.
The park works with the elephants out in the open and they have a session where they show you how they train and care of the elephants.

The bird show is amazing and is probably the best part of the zoo. I've been a couple times to the African safari part with the lions and such, if you want to see them awake, go in the morning or stay until it cools down, they are not active in the heat of they day.

Overall, its a great place, my only complaint is everything such as food and gifts is expensive. But plan it out and go to all their events (most are free) to make the most of your visit.

Best zoo in Utah... ;) Haha but seriously it's been around since I can remember and they have updated quite a bit of the property. Perfect place for kids and families! The animals seem very happy with their "enclosures". We have an annual pass and go frequently as a family.

I loved their cleanliness, animal care and tour. The train trip is very short, in my opinion, and it is not exactly the trip you are expecting to get closer to the copies of the Zoo, but in general, in a nice place to take our little ones.

On okay zoo where most of the animals looked like they were doing well. I'm not an expert, but the polar bear was pacing back and forth in its enclosure and seemed stressed as did a couple of the cats.

We love the zoo. The staff is very knowledgeable. We recommend talking to the zookeepers when you get there and ask about the animals you want to see the most. They can tell you what time during the day the animals are the most active. We will be back.

Don't buy a membership! They practice false advising and are very particular on what a nuclear family is despite government regulations. Leave it to a utah company to be biased on what a family is.

It's the only zoo I've ever been too and every single year as far as I can remember it is just boring as can be even after they remodeled it it's still boring. All the animals are always either sleeping or in there cages so you barely even get a glimpse of them. You're petty much paying to walk around.

This zoo is getting better every year. The sea ions are so energetic right now that it's not so hot watching them swim is amazing. Polar bears are adorable. And we can't wait for the red pandas.

Disappointed. It may have just been too hot and uncomfortable when we went, so they get an extra star for a benefit of doubt. The amount of animals seemed less than it was the last time I went quite a few years ago. There was a newborn Arabian sandcat kitten though - that was delightful.

What?? No hippos?? The venues have greatly changed for the better since I was here last. Much cleaner and organized. The train ride could be longer around more of the park. The kids loved it!

Seems like a good zoo, but there are SO many people not wearing masks and not respecting distance. I felt unsafe here and left quickly, wasting my entrance fee. The zoo should be better about enforcing their social distancing/safety requirements.

This is a nice little zoo, most of the animals have very natural looking enclosures (with the exception of the alligators, who are really overdue for a home makeover). It is a little on the expensive side but if you go in the off season it is a couple of dollars cheaper.

I don't think the prices should be as much as they her I think they need to be discounted because all of the food stores that drink stores over there are closed the bird shows close to seal shows close everything is pretty much closed because of cold bed so I don't think you guys should be charging as much as the zoo is

It's a pretty cool place to visit with your family. It's not a very big zoo but has a lot of animals. The zoo lights in December is awesome. Our 6th month old daughter enjoyed watching all the animals and the lights. The place is really clean and doesn't smell bad at all, even the restrooms were quite clean.
