Utah's Hogle Zoo Reviews

I remember how this zoo as a kid. To see what's it's become now is truly amazing. SLC has a fantastic zoo here, with a great layout and array of animals I'm enclosures that are much, much better than they used to be. The train and carousel are fun little bonuses. A wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Food options aren't my fave. Need more coffee places, too.

Daughter loves the elephants... she's 13 and has yet to grow out of it.

No hippos, wolves, or some of the other things we enjoyed as kids but our little ones never noticed or cared about it. Prices are decent for what they have.

Concessions are bit pricy but who isn't. You do have the option to pack lunches in. Love the merchandise. Neat things for the kids like the little explorer sets.

Was disappointed that veteran's discounts are not offered daily with the senior citizen discounts that are daily.

The cashier said they have a 'free' day. My issue with that is they assume all veterans don't work and have the ability to know when that is and show up. Most PTSD veterans will not like the crowds and look for off peak days. They may want to revise this marketing. Consider a daily discount for those who served or are serving.

Other than this, thank you very much for the experience. We had a wonderful time. Would do it all again.

I was very disappointed! There were very few exhibits with animals. I would say about half of them were empty. The few exhibits with animals they wanted you to pay to see the animals. The giraffe's were out but there was a green fence that my children couldn't see through blocking the animals. In order to go on the other side of the fence you had to pay to "feed" the animals. My daughter was scared and didn't want to feed them but regardless that was the only way to see the animals. I do understand that they are wild animals and the zoo can not control if they are active but there were so many areas with no animals.

My family has been coming to Hogle Zoo for years. We absolutely love it. I am not a big fan of zoos and these days, many zoos get a bad rap. But at Hogle Zoo you will be happy to know that the animals have large spaces to roam around in and that they live and breed in a safe environment. I recommend you come and see for yourself how well treated the animals are and how professional the zookeepers are.
My family comes to Hogle Zoo year-round. Our favorite time to visit is winter. The crowds are smaller and the animals are more active. But don't expect to see any hibernating animals (like bears) because...well, they are hibernating! Just one more reason to come back in the Spring!

It was too cold they need more places from do the heat up

It was a great visit during covid! You have to reserve your time slot online or you can try to go to the ticket office the day of (they do sell out quickly so I wouldn t recommend it). There was plenty social distancing and all of the animals were out because it was early in the morning! So fun to watch the brown bear take a bath! Also, the cafe, playground, bros show, and train ride are all closed for now. The gift store has the cutest things and the staff in the was amazing! We had this one gentleman come up to us and help us pick out this rhinoceros for our baby s first zoo trip. It is so soft!! If you are in Salt Lake City and looking for a family friendly activity come here. Your kids will love it!

Beautiful animals, good food and the kids love the train and playground.

Pallas cats, sand cats, black footed cats. Enough said.

Very nice zoo. Cozy and generally a fun time for all ages. It excels in comparison to SanDiego. Hogel is definitely the perfect sized and a 'caring' zoo. Although, I am still not a supporter of animals in small cages.

A lot of the animals that bring people through the gates are nocturnal, so it is really lame that the zoo closes at 5:00 PM. That being said, Hogle Zoo has some Red Pandas. these were not asleep when we visited and they are the cutest fricking things ever. Like a cross between a fox and a raccoon and a wolverine, except they're not meateaters, they eat bamboo leaves. like 20,000 bamboo leaves a day.

For what it is, and where it is, it's a great attraction. 2-4 hours comfortably sees it all. The kids water park at the end was really nice to let the kids burn off energy when they started to get bored after 2 hours of wandering and looking at animals.

Google Zoo is a wonderful place where a young child's imagination can run wild, while learning to love and appreciate the beauty of nature that we surrounds us. They have train rides for the whole family and LOTS of exotic animals. It's a wonderful place to explore and relax.

Fun family activity, happy the carousel was open to motivate the kids.

Hogle zoo has a great variety of animals and is especially kid-friendly. I had to go there for a writing project, using an animal as a writing prompt. I spent several hours with the bears, which were super awesome to observe.
Pricing for the zoo is pretty good, and is especially good for families with young kids and seniors.
The Zoo is super friendly to families, and especially to kids. They have awesome stroller access areas, and many presentations and shows to engage the kids in the animals. Many animals also have feeding hours posted so that you can observe them feeding. Hogle Zoo also has a pretty fun looking, Lighthouse Themed splash zone for kids.
I also bought food from one of their small restaurants and stopped inot the gift shop, the service was good, as was the food that I had.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find the Zoo had pretty clean bathrooms. It s sometimes pretty hit and miss with zoos, but the bathrooms there seemed well maintained and clean.

Food expensive but fills you up. Clean even when busy. Ways to keep warm.

The zoo is incredible, and the animals are very unique. The staff are really helpful, and this place is full of educational information.

The Zoo was great today, when you go, go earlier and beat the crowds. And don't forget the Carousel and the Train...

No zoo is perfect, but I think that the Hogle Zoo tries hard to make it a good place for the visitors and animals. They have a fairly decent selection of animals from all over the world. It's no San Diego Zoo-- but it's pretty good sized. If you go you'll probably want to have a full afternoon to be able to visit all of the animal enclosures.

membership prices are not bad, but it is smaller than I thought it would be.

The only real Zoo in Utah so I guess it would be the best Zoo we have

I love the zoo, they have really great areas that spray water on you, and although a lot of things are overpriced you get access to a free little water park, and all the animals are sweet

Great zoo! At the mouth of a canyon, so lots of up/down slopes.

The zoo expansions are amazing, so much improvement for the animals and much easier to enjoy seeing them in their exhibits.

This zoo could be a while lot better if they could bring in newer animals, especially at the rate they are dying off. All in all good place for the family to go hang out and see different animals.

Quality zoo with animak shows and tours for schools and other groups.

I can be extremely stressed out or in the worst mood and I can come Herr and be myself and relax. Even if the animals are taking a nap, just watching them is calming for me.

It is a typical zoo but fun to experience. My only issue is it seems everything inside the park is additional cost- feeding the giraffe, the train, the carousel. I d rather just pay a flat fee up front and not have to worry about paying anything inside the park except for food. I do know the carousel funds are used for something specific for the animals but I can t remember what. The zoo staff seem friendly and knowledge except one person on a golf cart collecting trash. This person wasn t a very good driver. Overall, it was a good experience and my kids (5, 3, 1) had an awesome time!

Always a great place to take kids. Compared to some of the others I've been to it is very nice. Might not be the biggest but the animals are all relatively accessible to see and are treated well.

A lot of fun for our 4 year old's birthday. Unfortunately all the big cats were not on display, due to a recent escape.

Expect to walk a lot, both uphill and downhill.

We paid full price and half of the buildings were shut down due to covid, not impressed

Again this year, my family holds a season pass. The facility is clean, the animals seem well cared for, and we love that continual upgrades and changes are made. While the season pass isn't exactly cheap, we find that it allows us to visit more frequently, for shorter periods of time. We've stopped in for as little as 30 minutes to check out a new or changed exhibit, and have loved the flexibility.

It's a fun place to me with your Children long drive though and parking can be hard

Fantastic time! Crowds were low so maybe that helped but they've done a great job on upgrading most of the animal habitats. Never thought I'd spend 4 hours there, but it happened. Only thing bad was that it was too early in the season for their bird show. If you haven't seen it before, it's a must do before you leave.

Very nice but it can get pretty busy. Then it gets kinda hard to see the animals

Excellent, the view is wonderful and the food rstaurants are super fast, the pizza is quite good.

The zoo is great. They do a good job of catering to small kids as well as everyone else. It's by far best to get a pass and go several times for an hour or two than it is to spend the whole day there. They have one of the most amazing bird shows you have ever seen, but you have to sit in the seats to really appreciate what they have done. It's super hot during peak sun hours in the summer, (of course), so it's best to avoid these hours unless it's a rainy day, or plan on getting wet with the kids in the cool water playground... It's one of the absolute best ways to spend a couple of hours with family.

We like the zoo, our kids love it and it's usually a god experience. Overpriced food and products inside, so we'd probably spend more there if it weren't so steep.

Is worth it if you buy a membership and come more than twice. Otherwise over priced.

Fun in summer cold in winter not many animals come out in the cold

Very dissatisfied with the zoo this visit, this Tuesday. Half the animals were nowhere to be found (4pm) and the train should go around the zoo, not to some made-up corner of the park. Get a trolley or something!!

If I could put less stars I would. Total fail Hogle Zoo!!!!! We have been annual passholders for a few years now and have never had an issue. In past years we have had myself, my mother, my brothet and even my husband as named adults. We purchased a family pass where it said two named adults in the "same nuclear family", which to me means mom, dad, and children, but apparently not. We get there to pick up the passes and are told that it is the passholder and spouse/significant other and cannot be the adult daughter. The supposed solution: Mom as the passholder on the $270 pass, me as the "caregiver", and we can purchase another pass for $150 for the other family. Plus the cost of the train pass and zoo lights that are included in the other pass. The guest services response? "Well I don't know why it says that online so ..... Sorry I guess?" Total fail. Since the zoo seems to have gotten a stick shoved up their backside in the last year we decided to take our business instead to the aquarium.

Had lots of fun. I like the exhibits of the animals made out of litter found in waterways; it is a great way to raise awareness about pollution in our oceans. The zoo was clean and the animals seemed happy.

I haven't been to the zoo in a long time, but 8 had a lot of fun. I went in late March, on a pretty nice day, so it was kinda crowded, but the animals were pretty active.

Airways fun to see the animals they have a great African animals exhibit. Always bring a stroller if you have kids as well as food or lunches.

The lines were extremely long to buy tickets and get into the park. Generally, this is to be expected at a place like this, but it took an hour and a half just to get into the park. The animals are not very active and most of the cats, you don't even see. My 8 year old brother has more fun at the aquarium.

Great zoo. I loved watching the elephant play in water.

We went on a really hot day so the animals weren't too active. They were all trying to keep cool, the zoo does look like it puts on a pretty good show on a nice day. I would really like to go back and see the Lions when it's a lot cooler and they're able to play around.

Decent-sized zoo. At first it seems extremely tiny but it s bigger than you originally think when you first walk in. As a new Mom, I brought it was pretty cool that in the bathroom area they have a separate room for nursing moms. I d suggest getting a pass if you want to go more than once a year. The entrance fee for my family was well on our way to covering that cost (and they let you apply the amount you pay that day toward a membership, too).

Love that they did the free Wednesday deal for a little while although it was INSANELY busy like wow. Never seen so many people there before. Literally had to park at this is the place heritage Park and just walk because of how hectic and chaotic it was. Parking lots were all completely full. Definitely should have shown up in the morning

The baby lions were so adorable! Utah's Hogle Zoo is great about bringing in new attractions and seasonal fun. Over the years we've really enjoyed their winter Zoo lights

Nice zoo, a little expensive (aka more than Bronx zoo, more than Cincinnati zoo). Food is expensive.

Always a great day. We love you can bring in your own food. The exhibits are really good and we love all the different things going on
