Take the beefeater tour. Its well worth it. Really interesting. Go very early if you want to avoid queues for the Crown Jewels.
For me this was the highlight of our city trip. You can easily walk around here for a half Day. You get to see the crown jewels, armory, Dungeon and torture rooms.
Really a must see when visiting London
A great place to visit for a day out full of historic information and easy to get to. My advice is get there within an hour of opening starts to get busy but well worth the visit.
Closed off at night when it would be great to have a tour to be honest. Nice friendly staff and near a great transport network. And of course its always great to see the beefeaters.
Practically empty at the moment, really good time to go. No queues for the Queen's Jewels and the wardens are all really helpful and informative.
If you go at a busy time, it's busy, so plan to be there at 10 a.m., go straight to the Crown Jewels (no queues) then the towers and have an early lunch whilst the queues build up After lunch enjoy the grounds and any events or take one of the tours! If you've any energy left, go back and see the Jewels again, if time allows!
Arrived around 8:45 for 9 am opening on London Pass so was able to skip ticket line. Went straight to the Crown Jewels which had no line yet. Caught 10 am Yeoman Warders tour with Steve who was great, humourous and informative. By the time the tour was over, it was very busy with a number of school groups. It was very crowded in the stairwells and small rooms. We were there about 4 hours including lunch.
If your not been it well worth a visit it's an amazing place
Pako poa sana!! Best expirience, great to be here couldn't be more excited.
Had a fantastic experience with my kids, the beefeater tour guide was exceptional
the iconic London location lives up to the hype. Allow plenty of time
A really fun experience. We visited during the height of summer which added to it. The crown jewels are the highlight of the location and are worth a view. I live in London and had never been, not sure if I would say this is an essential if you're visiting London on a trip, but if you're here for a while it might be worth popping in one day
Very bizzy if you don't like crowds leave it till later in the day . So much history it's hard to take it all in & wear a good pair of walking boots .The Beefeater are great talk to them they are amazing
Wow! Do not miss but be prepared for lots of steps. Try to go off season as it gets very busy. The yeomen are lovely.
A magnificent evening in the Keys Tavern. A wonderful privelage! Thanks to the wonderful Yeoman Warders
I was pleased to be able to see the Tower of London. Grateful for the opportunity. Loved it
Full of history and easy to make your way around in your own time
Great day. Well worth the money. What an incredible look into history.
Amazing historic place, very well preserved/restored. There's great views of the Thames, Tower Bridge, and a lot of modern buildings which is a great juxtaposition to the historic setting. Lots to see so could easily take a whole day to explore.
Loved this place. Well worth a visit. Great guides that fill your head with history and what it was like through the centuries
What a sight to see, a must stop while in London. Great views, and great history.
Very good place to drop by if you are interested in history
All jewels, artwork and a lot of historic artefacts are very well displayed and maintained
Great place for sightseeing.
Construction is one unfortunate thing
Interesting place to tour though it's a bit pricey if you want to walk across the top over the glass floors. Lots of stairs but they offer a lift/elevator if you can't manage the climb. The glass floors that allow you to look down to the street/river level are a big hit.
Love seeing all of the well preserved history. Abandoned the Beef Eater tour as the group was far too large and noisy to be able to hear the Yeoman. Perhaps another time for that. The grounds and exhibits were wonderful. The general public generally lacks in manners, so be sure to put on an extra thick coat of patience before coming.
Always like coming here, real sense of history if you like that sort of thing, just think it should be cheaper for London residents
Big queues for the Crown Jewels but we were warned upon entering. Very helpful staff and lots to see, even an artillery gun used by the SAS.
I didn't even go inside but the Tower of London is something you need to see if you visit London. On of the nicest buildings London has to offer. Definitely worth a visit.
Get in early to avoid the rush to see the crown jewels, it gets busier every year. Also if going to be in UK for a while , join historic royal palaces, big savings for entry to multiple locations
Go early, this place gets crowds, but for good reason; it was a great experience. Lots of great information and seeing the crown jewels exhibit was a highlight for everyone. There are benches, bathrooms and small refreshment stands on the courtyard, but you may want to bring some food and water. Plan for a coupe of hours here at least. The hop on hop off boat stops right at the tower. And several bus companies have stops just above the tower (big bus, etc). Hope that info helps you on your visit!
A great place to go and visit, we had the tour and then a walk around by ourselves. Lots to see and learn
Amazing. Spent over 4 hours there and could have gone longer.
Beautiful castle just next to the tower bridge. There is an exhibition about the crown juwels which can be visited.
Beautiful scale. Well curated. Great day out but a bit pricey
Incredible history here. 2 days wasn't enough for us to take it all in. The crown jewels were well worth the visit. We did the walking tour which was excellent and very informative. Just an awesome experience!
Absolutely amazing place and history. I would highly recommend a visit. The guided tour was packed with great information.
Tickets are dear but it's got to be one of the best attractions in London, beefeater tours and talks are a must as they really bring the place to life. Crown Jewels rooms are exceptional.
This is a big place, and you may not have the stamina to take it all in first visit. There is much to explore, and much not to miss. We enjoyed just seeing part of it at a time, then lunching in the (too hot) lunch room. Tip:. If nice weather, get picnic at Tesco. Sit on the lawn, rest, refresh, recover. Superb photo opps. Don't miss a selfie with the tower bridge in the background. And Tesco snacks are always a quick, cheap option for exploring London. It's how the locals do it.
Full of history and had an excellent guide taking us round outside in the courtyard and explaining what there was to see in each building
Great day out, loads to see and do. Loved the costumed story tellers too! Beware loads of steps, will make your legs ache! Great atmosphere and beautifully kept
You have to visit this if you go to London, and are at all interested in the history
Timing can truly mean everything. Time of year and time of day. We visited first thing in the morning on the first Friday of September. We visited the Crown Jewels first with no delay (in fact, we toured it twice because there virtually was no queue). This allowed us to take our time to explore the remainder of the complex until it got busier. We spent several hours on this visit.
Really maintaining their heritage well and a must visit for people interested in history. London is anyways full of historic places and heritage buildings.
Brilliant day out, staff were fantastic.
Definitely worth a visit, the Crown Jewels were amazing and the history of the towers is incredible.
Nice place. good to see, but in my opinion it's a little overrated
Very indepth history provided through the tour. A little expensive for a group, but an overall great experience (the only exception being a VERY rude and grumpy warden).
Plan for several hours here to fully enjoy all the sights, sounds and information.
The day i went there was no queue intially to get in and so i was a little relieved. Once inside it seemed so big and spacious. There were queues inside however. The queue for the torture room was a 20 minute wait so i was shocked to find when i went inside it had 2 reconstructed torture devices and some placards. These should really be on display in a bigger area of the tower.
When i queued to see the crown jewels they told me it was more than an hour wait so i didnt bother waiting 1 hour in the rain.
This is an important museum but i was surprised by the price considering London has some of the best museums in the world which are free and this was very expensive.
Very expensive, as practically everything in London, but it is worth a visit. Very nice setting, with a lot of possibilities of visiting the walls, the gardens and the tower without being forced to follow an specific order. Impressive setting of the Crown jewels, with comprehensive explanation of the origins and evolution. Nice armor museum. The crows are still impressively big, but they are getting older and are less impressive.
Worth the price of entry, could spend a whole day there
Once upon a time, in a city not far away, we decided to visit the infamous, nay, notorious Tower of London. It was a bright, sunny, summers day in London without a cloud in sight already something was amiss. Upon approaching the Tower there appeared to be a festival of sorts in the moat. "My good sir, what goes here" I inquired of the local steward. "A feast, a feast of epic proportions. Exotic cuisines and delicacies, presented to delight your palate and inspire your senses" he replied. Ah, the Food Festival is back in town I thought.
Upon entering the Tower grounds we suddenly found ourselves under attack by a winged, fire-breathing beast of a dragon! My initial fears subsided as I remembered we were in a fortress and I began to wonder which of the infamous Dragon Slayers, Christian Bale or Sean Connery, would be first on the scene. When neither Dragon Slayer appeared, and it became apparent we weren't going to become dinner we continued on with an inspection of the battlements I was keen to find the polar bear and elephant and lions I had heard so much about (a polar bear swimming in the Thames! Amazing!).
HALT, WHO GOES THERE? A deep voice boomed (I'm sure it would have caused the window panes to vibrate if there had been any). Turning around, I was amazed to see none other than King Hamster the VIII and his faithful squire. "Only us Sire, come for a visit". We were quickly ushered into the next room where we were amazed to find the Royal Crowns we wanted to try some on, but the hamster guards didn't look like they approved of the idea so instead we asked them if they'd show us around the rest of the site.
First they took us to the barracks, and then into the courtyard where they bravely defended us from Pumpkin Head, the most mischievous, devious and dangerous Imp in all the land. Next they took us past the Ravenous Ravens and into the armoury. The armoury was great fun they posed for photos under another dragon they had captured years ago (it was so old it had turned into metal), they let us play with kegs of gunpowder and load the canons and blow up the neighbouring castles.
By this time, it was getting quite late in the day, and I knew of a fair maiden who would be waiting patiently at home for us ready to hear all about our adventures, so off we headed. We didn't find a Princess, or see a polar bear swimming in the Thames, we weren't rescued by Christian Bale or Sean Connery, but we kept our heads, saw some dragons and had a delightfully brilliant time I highly recommend it.
A great place to visit. Lots to see and do, but don't upset the guard's. British history is the best in the world, makes the yanks envious. Sacrefi ha ha.
There s more to see than just the Crown Jewels (for me the least interesting bit), this is a rich slice of British history, crossing over the goriest and inhuman parts of our history. The Beefeater tour, is included and an essential part of the experience lots of facts and interesting stories. Full price tickets are quite expensive, but look for 2 for 1 offers if travelling by train.
Accessibility is a bit of a challenge, it s an old building after all, we found it a challenge with a pram.
Had a fabulous time. However we could have spent much more time there. The only downside was that the toilets were closed at 4pm so we had to find something outside the grounds.
It was ok. No live executions or prisoners so kind of boring. The ravens or whatever were cool I guess. Also too many school kids. They clogged up the place and made it hard to go anywhere. They advertise high security on the Crown Jewels but I was able to make it out with two crowns. Overall mediocre.
Fantastic. Everyone should visit, take the tour and see the crown jewels.
Beef eaters were cool, it holds the biggest diamond in the world.
It's a very attractive landmark with lots to do.
But it's very awkward with a 3-year-old, especially when you have to carry a buggy everywhere!
Luckily he coped quite well with the incredibly long queues in the late may holidays!
The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London has to be on your visiting list if you are in London. Full of history, it started of as the White Tower shortly after 1066. Of course the Crown Jewels are on show here and are well guarded so no chance of walking out with a Crown . A bit pricey to get in but most things are these days but this is well worth it.
So much to see and the guided tour is a must. So much history in one place and the crown jewels as a bonus.
Historic and informative. Could easily spend a full day here.
Fantastic site, would definitely recommend a beefeaters tour as it was very funny and informative
Amazing!!! Highly recommend the beefeater tour, a trip to see the crown Jewels ( don't be but off by the long queue) and the tower.
One of our favorite places that we saw during our short time in London. Despite the massive queue for the Crown Jewels, the line moved surprisingly fast, and I am glad we decided to wait for them. Such a rich history here, and is absolutely worth visiting for anyone who visits London.
Very funny and interesting Tours by professionalGuides of the royal guard
One of the most famous Palace in London. Just close to tower bridge. Tour costs roughly 30 pounds and usually takes upto 2-3 hours of this old historical palace. They have kept Kohinoor diamond here (apparently considered worlds biggest and most expensive one), but unfortunately they didn t let us go there.
So much to see!
The tours are wonderful.
My entire family enjoyed this immensely.
Ahhhh the Crown Jewels.
Lovely staff and very interesting. The staff member Jenny Browne is very knowledgeable in particular. The ravens were adorable
I'm sure there are thousands of reviews already, so not really sure what I can add. Strongly advise going with a professional guide so you can get full details of the rich and sometimes gruesome history. Also learn the truth that only 18 people were ever executed within the tower precinct, although thousands we're executed outside. A must see as you tour around London
PROS
Excellent must see if you are in London
Been here a couple of times with friends and family
It was great to see the history and artifacts of the site
The Crown Jewels are absolutely amazing and worth making a trip to see at least once
CONS
None
Great day out. We had a fantastic time, my son really enjoyed himself. The yeoman were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
We had a great time. The tour guide was fabulous. He knew everything about the place. The jewels were absolutely fabulous.
Talk to the guards! They have a wealth of knowledge and are eager to share!
This place is just chockers with history. I went in thinking I'd be out in an hour. 5 hours later we were still exploring all the wonderful buildings. Unfortunately while I was there bloody Mary was closed but the crown jewels made up for it. They are absolutely fantastic, never seen so much in a single place.
If you have a good 4 to 5 hours free and enjoy a good historical deep dive, grab some tickets and the guide book because while there is a guide every hour they can only cover so much and the other guides are well worth it.
Very interesting. Need time to get to see everything so worth it. We had our 2 sons with us. They enjoyed it too.
Take the guided tour! Our guide was informative and hilarious
The tower of London is very beauty and interesting. Unfortunately I can not enter inside but at outside it is incredible
Get in early & start queuing for the jewel house. We arrived at the queue 10 mins after opening time & waiting 20 minutes to get into the jewel house. When we got out of the jewel house the queue must have been an hour & a half long. Take More
Very big castle. You have to buy a ticket to go inside. Usually very crowded. The surrounding is also worth visiting. Great architecture and a feeling of ancient monarchy (might is right) is very obvious here.
Lovely place to learn about the city of London, the Royal Family and to see the Queen s jewelry :)
Going early in the morning made the experience very enjoyable since there weren't as many people. All the sites and incredibly intriguing, even to those who lack interest in English/British history. 10/10, would definitely go again.
