went here as spur of the moment lunch. Had the squid and sushi and was so tasty! Service was ok but had to get up to request various things from the waiter. Food was good. Service let it down. Would still go back though

A decent sushi train with a huge variety of plates, hand rolls and menu items. All plates were $3.80 when so keep an eye out for specials. They're also offering $5 back when you spend $50
Drinks were we'll put together. Food came out quickly and was well above average for some dishes. The lobster salad genku was amazing. Service was good. They forgot 1 dish of about 12 but we we're full anyway. 3 people came out to apologise.
Well, this is quite an interesting Resturant. Host and staff fantastic, very welcoming. Great Sake selections and creative cocktails. Food, well I can only say clever and fresh and very, very, tasty with a speaciap twist to each dish. Enjoy!
Been to the restaurant regularly, but I've noticed their quality standard slowly fall. Two years I came in, there was lots of love and their nabeyaki/udon dishes were spot on. But last Saturday 5:30, practically empty, staff are slow and dishes luke warm, taste average.
The food is good, but used to be better. The price is a bit high.

Our favorite sushi place in Sydney, we have been there 20 times if not more. The cheese scallops, garlic edamame and udon wagyu beef are fresh, tasty & so delicious! i can only highly recommend this place

Unfortunately - id prefer to give this place a 1 but is probably just slightly too harsh as the food is edible. The service is HORRENDOUS! You have to almost let off a flare to get some help and when you do order something, it takes FOREVER. I'd like to say something positive about the place but all I can say is it's below my work so location is good.
I'm a sushi lover so would go twice a week if they upped their game, but unfortunately after saying to my friend, I'm giving them a FIFTH chance - today's service took the cake. NEVER AGAIN!

Came here with a coupon so it was worth it. Otherwise it'd be pretty pricey. However the menu selection is huge and there are so many options. The services are quite small though so you'd have to eat alot. The food itself was pretty ok, not too bad.
Really beautiful decorations and lovely location. Nice and quiet romantic restaurant with a few people dining & quiet nice music in the background. We came on a Tuesday night 6.30pm.
The manager and staff were really friendly! The hot pot was tasty but abit too sweet for me although I only noticed this in the end of the meal. We had leftovers also from the Groupon meal. There was only around 6 meat slices of the beef but I didn't mind. I love the ice-cream, I'd definitely come back for the ice cream. For the Groupon price it's worth it but for more extra cost i don't think i would come again.
Good sushi. Dined a little late and then out of rush hour, the place was quiet and we were served at the tape. Good quality and a lot of choice of dishes, the staff is kind and he continued to prepare dishes as they were taken from the ribbon, although close to closing. Excellent location. Definitely a great choice if you are looking for sushi.
Placed a catering order online which was unfulfilled due to them cancelling it as it didn't meet their $500.00 order minimum. This disclaimer was not anywhere to be seen on their website. They took the money and management responded via a separate email "offering" a refund which was never issued for several weeks until I noticed the money was never returned. They ignored all communication attempts from myself. I had to go through PayPal Dispute Resolution to acquire the refund. Terrible service and absolutely unprofessional on their end.
Have been there a couple times, sushi is very fresh made, taste is good, pretty impressive about $2 what ever eat sushi promotion, such a long queue outside, however, we still get good quality sushi here

It's ok. Almost authentic sushi catering for the tourist crowd in this area. Popular for tourists and occasional sushi eaters. Touristy prices too. If you know what Japanese sushi should be then you'll be disappointed. Gets a bit crowded and isn't the most comfortable place to bring kids.

There was literally a pigeon on the train track, pecking at the lid of the dishes and no one cared. it's around 4pm 15/01/2020. If management want to check cameras.
Umi has fantastic freshly hand-rolled sushi. A bit on the pricey side but the specialty rolls are really lovely, especially the Dragon Rolls. Umi uses nothing but the freshest seafood, *almost* warm freshly prepared sushi rice and service with a smile. Love it.
A great selection of sushis, bentos and noodles for lunch. Usually pretty fast service and cooking time, and the food quality is pretty good.
During the weekdays, Umi is a standard place for lunch by the surrounding bank employees and families visiting the park!
I always come here for the lunch special. One plate of meat, an udon or rice and soup plus two plates of ANY colour. Once i lost my card with over 2000 points ($100 worth of credit) and they arranged to have it replaced, no questions asked. Brilliant.
Lovely spot for a Japanese bite with great seating outside. The food was delicious albeit portions were on the smaller side and a tad pricey for what you get but we found the service attentive.

Service was good but my hotpot and portable stove was in a very awkward and unsafe spot next to the sushi train, leaving less than 4 inches gap for my bowl. For the price I paid for, taste was average compared to most spots in Sydney for a lesser price. Convenient location though.
Very disappointed in their handroll sushi. I asked for fresh tuna handroll and they gave me what appears to be off cuts of tuna. I had to ask the waitress for "fresh cuts" and she explained to me that the cut up "bits" are not off cuts. How embarrassing...

Average, overpriced. Highlight was the wagyu steak. Unfortunately not an authentic experience. Good location though (near the big water park and playground) and my kids were happy with their baby avocado and baby salmon sushi rolls
One of the starters arrived way after the main. Really guys???! The oysters were missing orange soy so had to fix it. The teriyaki salmon was COMPLETELY different to the beautiful picture from the menu, arrived one big chunk of salmon full of watery teriyaki sauce with a burning taste. Ordered sake and the two shot glasses were different - not a big thing but still sloppy. Personally not coming back. There are many other great Japanese places around.
The manager is psycho and beyond rude. We didn t like a roll and asked if we could take it back; he proceeded to yell at us in the restaurant and told us not to cry about it even though we respectfully asked if there was anyway to not pay for something we don t like. He got unbelievably offended and didn t understand how we could order something we didn t like... even though we had never tried it and took a bite of just one piece. (Not to mention we ate and paid for 5 other things). After arguing for like 5 minutes in front of all the other customers he decided he can t argue with us anymore. Then went and yelled at his staff. Not coming back if this is how you treat customers.

Best sushi train. The spicy beef wagyu udon noodles is also really good.
Good casual dining place for Sushi, Udon, Lotus Root chips, Edamame and Sake. Friendly service and nice menu. Well located in darling quarter next to a kids playground, tumbalong park and darling harbour. They have both indoor and outdoor seating
$3 a plate - not too bad! Sushi is quite good and convenient location. Wonderful decoration that brings you back to the streets of Japan! Staff are friendly and quite q few sushi varieties to choose from. I come back every now and then when craving sushi.

I came here a few years ago and it was great. Seems to have changed hands. Now the menu is more limited and they arent very flexible. I dont rate it anymore. More like a fast food place than a nice sushi bar.

Our dishes were poorly prepared and appeared in no particular order with the first dish, a main course, appearing 40 minutes before the last and well ahead of the entrees. The service was hard to get, ignorant of menu details, unresponsive
We were a little concerned about reviews complaining about the staff, but we found the manager was very nice and helpful generally, especially with our allergy issues. Staff could be a little shy, because of confidence with English, but otherwise very nice. Food was as expected for price. Not amazing but not bad. Salmon was very fresh. Udon noodles were really good. Sushi was decent. Some good specials. Half price kids on Sunday for example. You can't combine multiple specials together though (obviously), or you'd be paying almost nothing, so seems silly people are complaining about that...
The staff here are so lovely, polite and very accommodating. The plain udon is a hit, as well as the mini avocado rolls and inari. The sushi train is such an effective layout and the atmosphere is modern with a touch of traditionalism! Will definitely return back!
Went there for a friend's birthday, we were very well taken care of and the food was amazing. Can't stop thinking about it I want to go there again!
Excellent meal. Wagu beef bento box was delicious. A lot of choice. Outlook onto the park, so nice surroundings with no traffic noise or fumes.
Was about to look at the menu when one of the staff pounced at me about my 5yr old grand daughter having a maccas happy meal with her,very rude I just got up and left

This restaurant has got to be one of the best if not the best sushi restaurants in Australia. Great food not just sushi but try the hot food such as wagyu beef steak and the spicy soy miso hotpot during winter.. yummmm

Nice sushi place, complete with sushi train inside and other seating outside (umbrella cover). Really enjoyed the tasty salmon handroll (complete with roe) and the fresh oysters served with ponzu. The kingfish sashimi was also quite good! As was the grilled cheese scallops.
The Umi chain has always been tops in terms of sushi quality. The seafood is consistently fresh and treated with the utmost respect, and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
Having been spoilt by the Umi Zushi outlet near Capitol, though, I find that this one's not quite as good. There were a few of the same sushi dishes that seem to cost more at the Darling Harbour outlet than at the Haymarket outlet, and there were a few pieces of sushi that were stated as one price on the menu, then served on a different coloured plate (which overcharged by a dollar per serve - which can add up!). The hotpot selection seemed really interesting, but I always go to Umi for the sushi.
Besides the nitty gritty, the food is good and the service decent. Worth going if you're around the harbour.
Oh, and if you're a Umi frequenter, this outlet doesn't accept the loyalty card.
Used to be one of the Japanese restaurants we would regularly visit but we won't be going back after tonight. First, they screwed up our order. Then, there was hair in our food (and I had to speak Japanese to get the waitress to understand what the problem was). No apologies, no acknowledgement from the manager, and they still made us pay the full fee. Pitiful service.
Pretty good happy hour deals, $6 drinks am absolute bargain for this part of town.

Service was horrendous. Severely understaffed on first visit. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back second time to the same problem.
Average food - not a huge selection on the sushi train, miso eggplant wasn t well balanced. Drinks were very slow to come and wait staff hard to flag down. The 5% eftpos surcharge is an absolute rip off, it s illegal to charge excess fees like this, the ACCC suggest the highest the surcharge should be is 2%. This sneaky attempt to rip off customers left a bad taste.
Quality of the sushi/sashimi was fairly fresh, presentation of sashimi was good; however for the price, there are more cost effective options nearby.

Recently visited this restaurant as part of a $2 per plate promotion and had so much good food for only $32. Particular highlights were the grilled beef ngiri, salmon wrapped with crab or salmon roe, salmon ngiri with many other great choices. This is the only place i have actually seen a sashimi chef working with the gold halo on his head. It was very busy on the Monday night but it didnt detract from the experience

Love this place, the sushi is delicious and the sashimi is always fresh. Great value for lunch but can be a little pricey for dinner.
The wait staff can be a little slow at times and even have trouble hearing when you order (I prefer my softdrink in cans or bottles instead of postmix)
I normally order the Wagyu Terriyaki Beef bento box, fresh salmon sashimi and a can of softdrink. I would also recommend the Wagyu Udon noodles if you arnt in the mood for rice.
Most of the plates on the sushi train are delicious and I'm certain that everything is made fresh on the same day. I see the chefs remind plates off the train after a short period and dispose of them.
For Japanese food that is fresh and doesn't disappoint, I highly recommend coming here.
Food was below average, not very fresh looking, and taste not so fresh. There were only about 15 plates on the train. Service was very terrible, they got the wrong order and blamed me, and the manager handled it very unprofessionally. if you r looking for a quiet place, nothing special, and you are not in a hurry, then here is the place.
The best espresso martini I have had this year(a large range) and the fried cauliflower was AMAZING. The staff were so lovely and asked how everything was. I am def coming back.
