Giving 2 stars because one of the nice staff bumped it up a tad. The staff really need to listen, and advertising needs to be less misleading. Have been here a few times, one memory where someone in my group was accused of running off without paying (just because they didn't bring a dish we ordered out after being asked at least 3 x times - they kept adding it onto our bill instead of just bringing the one dish out), and an ad for a deal on noodles, but fine print which no one can see straight away showed that it wasn't even that store that had the deal. Just odd.

Terrible service. Ordered takeaway and I was told it would be 10-15 minutes. 35 minutes later I asked where our food is and after checking with the chef they said it would be another 10 minutes, which leads me to believe they hadn't even started our order! After waiting longer, we asked for a refund.

We went to this sushi bar for dinner when they were doing a promotion. $2 for a dish, which is a very good price. There was a lot of variety and the the sushi was decent. Not the fastest service but I think the staff was in training. Also to get the deal, management made a quite big fuss about liking and checking in on facebook.

Very standard sushi place; with quick service and nice staff. Their chicken meal was okay and tempura was excellent. They have unfortunately forgotten one of our orders. Also we have brought some cards for entertainment and they have asked us to stop playing. I guess it is just corporate policy but it is still weird.

Service tends to be excellent - especially if it is the older guy in the suit. However the food can be hit and miss... I recommend ordering from the menu if you have time to wait.
Unless you are getting a lunch special, it's a bit pricy for what you get. Most plates, a single nigiri is already $2... You may have to wait a long time for your order too.

I went to this Japanese establishment to grab a quick bite before uploading ROBLOX videos and pursuing my dream job. The food was superb and the service was pretty good for only 1 floor staff working. I d like to come grab another bite sometime here at Umi.

As a frequent connoisseur of sushi delivered via a conveyor belt/train, Umi Sushi was one place high on my list to try. With a convenient location in Darling Quarter this Umi is newer than the Haymarket restaurant and has some lovely decor. The service was the rather usual indifference one gets at sushi trains, but the food was great. The variety for dinner on the train was only average - we ended up ordering items like Unagi from the meal as we always love having some eel. The seared salmon nigiri was the standout, and very tasty. Prices were reasonable, the meal was pretty quick and I know I'll be back, always a good sign!

From a quick lunch or a late dinner this is a no nonsense Japanese sushi bar. The sushi plates are reasonably priced while the freshness and quality is consistently good. There's even a large selection of sake and If you're like me and not an expert on sake the staff are more than happy to recommend one to suit your taste buds. The spicy beef udon served in an elegant dark stone bowl with a warm sake is the perfect way to warm up on a cold Winter evening. The service is very friendly and unrushed (even towards closing time)

Sushi was super yummy and fresh, prepared in front of your eyes, price is also great for good quality sushi! Great variety and also veggi sushi. Staff was very friendly. Only the ice cream was disappointing, matcha ice cream was average but black sesame wasn't tasteful at all. The girl at the entrance had such a heavy accent so we couldn't really understand all the details about this weeks "special offer", so there was a little confusion when we wanted to pay but in the end we had a nice evening and ate great sushi.

Came here at 3.50pm asked for happy hour drinks apparently happy hour is from 4-7pm. When asked about their sign the staff advised it's day light savings.. furthermore the sashimi I ordered doesn't look fresh at all!!

Friendly staff and nice food. There's lunchbox and sushi train specials on weekdays. I must admit that Sushi Rio, which is pretty close to here, is a better place to go in my opinion.

Staff ignore politeness and seem to only give attention to the ruder customers. The overall lack of service is astounding. When I attempted to raise the issues I was asked to wait while they answered their private mobile.
Packages we ordered only had half arrive to the table and then when the waiter was questioned where the rest was we were told they forgot and would try get it to us.
The establishment was less than 40% full, almost anything we asked for was unavailable and we came after the lunch rush to try to avoid all these issues.
No service, no food, no return customers. Can only hope this place is replaced with something more suited to the area and customer base. If I could award 0 stars I would as when w left w still needed lunch.

Pretty good sushi place, same owners as the umi in haymarket. Umi is high quality sushi and never disappoints. Service is brilliant as all Japanese do. Still like the original umi in haymarket though. Bigger restaurant, bigger range of sushi.

Extremly poor customer service. We ordered two wagyu bento set with two sashimi and sushi plates included. When the waitor was trying to place them on the desk, he dropped one to the floor. He then left and came back, cleaning up the floor and not a single word was said by him. we thought he would go back to kitchen and bring us back the plate he dropped but this didn't happen at all. While we waited for quite a while, we asked another waitress and explained to her what happened, she seemed to doubt what we were saying but did go back to check. Later, she came back saying that was dropped by accident, and by the tone, was trying to blame us and I was not happy and told her that was the fault of the waiter. She left and a while later, another waitress came and we told them the same thing again, trying to find out what happened again. She didn't seem to be happy either. I could see her back and talk to the waitor who dropped the food. After a long while, she came back with the refilled sushi/sashimi plate. But she sarcastically asked us to clean up the table (isn't it their job?), implying that it would be dropped again because we did set aside room for them.
This is very disappointing. There was not a single apology. We are just expecting some normal service and with waitor making the mistake, we would naturally expect they would make it up to us. I wish I could give zero stars.

Extensive menu as well as a sushi train to choose from. we had the Miso eggplant, edamame, seafood chawan mushi , udon noodles and seafood and vegetable tempura as well as five dishes from the sushi train. Food was tasty, staff friendly and prices reaonable for this location on a public holiday

The service here is absolutely amazing. From when you enter, someone greets you immediately, sits you down with menus, offers water and cups without asking. They also come back to check on you to see if you need any assistance. Throughout the whole time dining here, their service was great. Didn't ever ask for water to be topped up or didn't ever need to wait for a staff to come around.
They have lunch specials and kids meals. The kids meals are arranged pretty interestingly , as you can choose train sets, anpanman and one other one. The kids meals have juice, lolly and ice cream as well as the main meal. Pretty fun for the kids. They do have high chairs so pretty kid friendly.
The food is decent. Wouldn't say the best I have ever had but it's pretty good. The lunch special bento box is good size. I haven't tried their sushi train but all their sushi train dishes are the same price and you can grab as you like no matter where you are sitting - indoor or outdoor.
Overall I was quite happy with my experience here and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is good and even outdoor seating is quite nice with the breeze. It is also close to the playground where the kids can have some fun.

Really bad service! We ordered take away n been waiting over 20mins without anyone looking after us, I won t order if they told me there is 20mins wait, Bad Bad Bad service!! especially manager Ken, we got the receipt to show the time of order exceed 20mins, Ken didn t even look at it n said we are wrong n keep ignoring us then serving others while we r waiting, this guy feels no shame n try to argue with us saying the take away is coming n we can NOT cancel the order, absolutely ridiculous!! You are wasting your time and money coming here!! We won t come back here ever!

The sushi here is quite delicious, love the japanese art deco, the service is also quite pleasant, i always keep comming back, although i must warn that this sushi train is much more expensive than most other sushi trains so be prepared to pay alot. Also if you are a regular customer, the head chef (who is very warm and hospitable) will greet you and remember you as well as do all he can to serve you which can include making you custom made sushi, the staff and waiters do have improvements to make however they are generally quite polite and will also remember you if you are a regular.

Wow such a poor experience. Midday Sunday on a beautiful Sydney day, it was still fairly empty yet was left standing at the counter for ages to be seated. Eventually flagged an employee down who reluctantly took us to sit, then left us. I had to call a sushi chef to order the rolls my child wanted. The table had empty soy sauce and no chopsticks or serviettes provided. We stayed for 15 minutes and in that time was not once asked for a drinks order. Went to pay and still left waiting for the one employee that seemed to be struggling to take customer's orders. Paid, asked for my leftovers to be boxed up, which she did then left behind the counter and walked off.
Sushi selection was minimal.
Avoid!

Love a good sushi train and this place is super authentic and really cute. The train is massive and you can grab anything you want off that or they have a huge menu of sushi plates and other Japanese dishes to choose from. Service is good and the food is fresh.

Disappointing to say the least. Salmon was overcooked and was served with rice only as they did not have any pickles, salad or dressing as per the menu. Will not be returning again and would encourage other customers to reconsider dining here.

Didn t like the fact that at 9:30pm me and my friend were not allowed to get a table. Manager confirmed that the place indeed closes at 10pm, but they are not letting people in after 9:30pm. Just state on the listing that you close at 9:30pm and people will make other plans.

Absolutely terrible! Manager is totally rude not only with customer but staff members, first main order arrived at 11.41 and the second at 12.25 (I counted 6 customers in total) when we ask about the second plate manager told us that was not a french restaurant but Japanese and thats how works. While paying he insisted that my eftpos card from ANZ was credit card. Food was average definitely dont recommended!

Umi has a giant sushi train in the middle of it's restaurant in Darling Quarter. It's a very busy night and a bit of a wait but I think worthwhile.
Their udon dishes are tasty and very reasonably priced. There's the chicken katsu udon (with egg, splashes of seaweed, tempura flakes) and I also ordered the beef teriyaki spinach udon dish (with the same trimmings as the first udon). The sushi plates are good and consistent but I suggest you do a combination of main/sushi plates.
I also tried the dessert which was a warm green tea brulee and cold mascarpone roll. I thought the brulee was nice with a crunchy top and an egg-like soft bottom. The mascarpone roll was rock hard and cold. It was a rich roll but provided contrast to the brulee.
A nice dinner with some nice company :)
Prices: Udon dishes range from $12 to 15, Sushi plates are colour coded and dessert was $10

I enjoyed the high quality of the food, but the menu was way too expensive. A $103 order only ended up feeding two people.
