Nice, quiet place with decent Japanese food. The staff have been friendly every time I've visited, and their signature rolls are delicious! The food is 3 stars, but the super quick and friendly service, and casual vibe has upped my rating to 4.

great variety and fresh sushi/sashimi. The grilled salmon is a hit amongst us!
Cozy place. Nice sushi and hotpot. But I think lunch time may be better (price considered).
Sushi train was nice but very limited in selection overall.
Place has tonnes of offers advertised but not available at all times so be careful. There is daily specials available which we were told about but when we sat down and started on the sushi train then tried to order, we got told they are evenings only (it was meant to be 2 for 1 on sake). Place mat had $2.5 sushi specials but when tried to order we were told they couldn't be ordered in this establishment. Could be a really nice place if they stopped the false advertisement of offers and were just honest.
I complained when paying the bill about the fake offers, such as the place mat, and the manager followed me out in the street, I won't be coming back.

Good food and Service. Food doesn t quite look like photos in menu. Massive menu. Overall reasonable value and quality.
There service is ultimately lacking. As soon as people arrive they re fumbling around and all the staff go to the first person while the others just stand around not knowing what to do.
It took them three people to clean up one mess.
When I asked them to order they kept telling me that one of the other ones would do it for me until I said no can you put in the order because no one else will.
Even then they had large difficulties in understanding what I was asking for a tuna roll and a seaweed salad to which multiple of them asked me to repeat them point out on their menu.
Then they forgot that I also ordered the seaweed salad which i have ordered before and it came out as a good amount of seaweed in a bowl. This time it took ages and I asked twice where it was because there s no way it takes that long to spoon a bit of seaweed onto a bowl. So I asked them to cancel the order because it had taken too long and I needed to be somewhere.
So I finished my food and went to pay but I heard them repeating the words seaweed salad and aggravatingly pointing towards me as if they were saying bad things about me in their own language.
I then walked up to them and they all suddenly stopped and looked down shyly as if catching them in the act.
The seaweed salad that I ordered had then arrived as a huge plate of food with a tiny pinch of seaweed on top. To which they told me to please take my food when I came to order.
I said one that s not what I ordered. Two I canceled the order so you can t try to force me to take it. And three it does not take that long to order a meal then put a church of seaweed into a bowl.
Then I paid my 6$ for the sushi and they asked for a 50c surcharge.
The tuna roll that I ate was very good though, they have amazing food just very poor service that really needs to improve.
Short of staff, missing orders, it is a mess...

6:30 on a Wednesday despite surrounding restaurants being full of people enjoying happy hour (this place had happy hour beers for $6).
Chicken udon.was bad, they just threw I some chewy chicken pieces into the soup. The noodles were low quality (not even the frozen variety) and I strongly recommend not taking any chances with the sushi train in an empty restaurant. Hence I sat away from.the bar. However when I ordered an aburi scallop sushi but the waiter just got a plate off the belt. This is just sheer laziness. I returned it insisting for.fresh ones to be made (which they did) .
Overall food was average to below average and not cooked by authentic chefs like it used to be.
just went to try this place today. I was excited at first. the food definitely are overpriced and average. the staff service is really bad, just put the food down and walk away. I will not come there again and won't recommend to anyone.
Go here for the udon. Best in CBD, freshly made, comparable to the famous Murakame Udon in Chatswood. Sushi is okay.
Good value for money with quality ingredients. Tried the sashimi and salmon. All fresh and tasty. Will come again

It was such a disaster experience at the branch behind capitol theater Sydney. Yes it was understood almost 4pm that's why I asked the branch manager/ supervisor (a Thai guy), if they still serve the lunch set. He said yes and had me to put that order in their tablet. After serving the order, he just said was already 4pm not serving the lunch menu. Straight away took away the lunch set menu in front of me but still left the rest of the menu at other tables. Wth...at the cashier (the same guy) apparently did expect me waiting for the change and gave me all 5 cents. Well done UMI SUSHI with such a POLITE staff. Well done!! !! Note: your king prawn is NOT FRESH...
Bad management, they had 4 customers at 7pm, all staff are chatting, the waitress came up I ask her for sparkling water she don't understand, ordered a plate of salmon sushi it was sliced so thin, then we wanted scallops volcano the chef don't know, and he's Japanese. Went to pay the bill the manager ask how's everything, I told him it's very dissapointing, you feel like you are in a circus with clowns doing nothing.
The food was OK perhaps could be better with more variety. The staff was not friendly as they are in Japan but ok as well.

Sushi is ok, Staff was friendly so good for a lunch pick me up. However sydney is a place full of sushi restaurants.
Ok kind of place nothing special. Perhaps if you are from South Asia you will love this joint. I found the taste quite bland and watery. I had a goat curry with rice !!! Bad choice!!! Service is good and the place is very clean.
used to be a big fan of umi sushi in darling quarter for more than 6 years, but after the visit on 11/12/2018 at 1300, decided not to go back. The seaweed on the sushi isn t fresh, the fishes aren t fresh and the cuts are too thin, not sure I was having sushi or riceball. The sushi chefs are all Chinese, no offence as a Chinese myself, but wish they could learn better from the old Japanese sushi chef I used to see in this restaurant in terms of attitude towards their work and the work they deliberated.
