Tuffy's Eatery Review

Very polite and respectful country home cooked meals...strongly recommend this for any occasion.

Their rolls a wonderful. I had the chicken fried steak and found the coating flavorful but the steak itself seemed to be lacking any seasoning.

Went here when I first moved to Mauriceville. Loved it. Live band. Son came to visit while home from service. Was upset that Tuffy's was closed on a Monday

I went to Tuffy's for the first time since it reopened. The rolls were fresh and the meringue on the pies were mile high as remembered. I was with a group of 8 red hatters. When no one answered the phone on Monday, (They were closed) my mom went in person on Tuesday to let them know we were coming on Wed. The owner told her if we would be dessert there, he was buying. So of course we ate dessert first. I had the hummingbird cake
It was scrumptious. I ordered the senior shrimp because I knew I would be too full for anything else. It was 3 fried shrimp and a side. I chose fried okra. The shrimp were large and tasty. The okra tasted fresh. Everyone at the table seemed pleased with their food. I didn't here anybody complain. There was an 18% gratuity included because we were a group.

The rolls really are as good as everyone says. The service is polite and prompt. The gumbo is also excellent and actually spicy (unlike so many other gumbo).

The food was very very good and our server was very nice and helpful (Maryann) she even got us to try a desert and it was delicious!!

Been a personal favorite dice I was a kid, their rolls are amazing especially with the real butter they serve with it! The grilled shrimp burger is one of my favorites with so much extra that comes with it! Sweet tea couldn't be more perfect as well. Deserts are so fresh and delicious as well! Always been a very pleasant experience and nothing disappointing about it 5 stars is a understatement of this establishment!Thank you for the great atmosphere and delicious food! Keep it up!

Some of staff was rude and food was cold or incorrect

Tuffys supports veterans and were a really big help to me and my wife who are going through a bit of hard times. Southern hospitality at its best

Some dude with a man bun took our order and forgot to turn our ticket. 3 tables arrived after us and got their food. Our family left after 50 minutes of waiting. Wanna be waiter should have explained whatever the issue was instead of repeatedly coming to the table saying our food would be right out. Where was management???

Went on a Friday night, so understandably, there was about a 30 minute wait to be seated. Upon being seated, we placed our orders from what was a limited menu in comparison to the old restaurant's offerings. Received a basket of fresh rolls, which were delicious, and truthfully, was the best tasting thing we ate during our visit. Asked if they had any honey for the rolls, and were told "sorry, we're out til Monday". Hard to fathom how a restaurant can be "out" of anything when there is a supermarket less than a block away, so management loses a star for that. From the time we placed our orders to the time we actually got our orders was about 45 minutes. I'm sorry, but that is excessive, so management loses another star for that. Sadly, the worst part was the food itself. Got the Chicken Fried Steak, and while the portion size was great, the taste was not. It was obviously overcooked, and attempting to cut it was much the same as trying to cut a radial tire. Minus one more star for that. The staff was very friendly, and we did have what seemed to be a manager ask us if everything was good. We don't return food EVER, so we politely said it was fine, then we paid and left. Management needs to understand though that many people, rather than complaining, simply won't return. I wish the new restaurant success, and I hope they get their kinks worked out and become a solid dining option for my family someday. But for now, I recommend eating elsewhere.

Best restaurant around... the staff is friendly and the food is amazing

Food was good, was told we were going to get free dessert and a family picture taken because it was our first time there. when the hostess came in with the manager he looked at us and turned right around and never came back, the waitress kept forgetting our food. But other than that it was okay.

SO happy this place has re-opened! Our table ordered the chicken fried steak, Monterrey Chicken, Gumbo, and loaded shrimp spuds. ALL were amazing and of course the famous rolls were to DIE for. Great pie selection for dessert! We had the hummingbird cake and buttermilk pie.

Food was cold. Service was terrible I will not go back and I will not send anyone to try them out.

The food was fair our waiter was GREAT. But it took over an hour to get our food. The first time we went there it took over an hr and we thought it was cause they had just open. So we went back for another shot at it and it was the same thing. So kinda DONE shouldn't take that long g to get a meal.

Extremely good service. Great atmosphere.
Friendly staff. Felt like eating with family. Large portions. I took picture and wish i could share. Came home with some delicious looking desserts to eat later.

The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is bc we didn't get our appetizer until after we got our food. And my brother asked for a1 but they gave him bbq. After they clearly said they had A1. As u can see I gave them 5 stars bc we may have not got our appetizer until after we got our food but we didn't have to pay for the appetizer.

Amazing food. My boyfriend and i had the boudin balls as an appetizer and they were amazing. The gumbo was delicious and vary flavorful. My boyfriend had the shrimp platter and the shrimp was fresh and huge! Lite batter, not greasy at all. Their potato salad was perfect balance of mayo and mustered taste. Defenetly coming again. Plus the live singer was very talented and almost sounded just like Jason Aldean.

Good tasting home cooked meals. I had the baked fish over rice with onion rings and salad. Wife had gumbo with ckicken and sausage (deer?). Been there 3 times and all has been good.worth the money you pay. Waitress was Awsome.

Homemade smoked sausage and smoked boudain was amazing!!!! Service was very good. Server was very attentive. The owner, Van, came by the table and checked on us several times. Great atmosphere!!! There was a live band singing some great music. I had catfish and it was just like old times when I use to cook for Van.... amazing!!!! Great place to eat and a great dinning experience!!!! Wish there was more stars!!!!

Their was four of us for a late lunch, no complaints, the food was awesome, and the helpings was huge!!

Food was great but the waitress we had and this was the second time that I had this waitress was no good.

Tuffys is that small town Diner feel with big portions and good comfort food. About $10 a plate not too bad good service clean place.

Great food and great live music. Waitress was very nice and quick. Manager was very personable and chit chatted with our table. So glad a good family place is open again.

If there was a way to give a zero I would me and my family ate here a few months back and the food was good but a few hours later
We were all in a race for the bathroom everyone was I'll . So that being said we were like let's give it another try maybe it wasn't the food sadly to say I believe it is the food because here again after having a meal at tuffys we are all sick again if I had to guess it would be a dirty kitchen because we have all order different stuff each time

Fried okra was bland, unseasoned. Chicken fried steak wasn't tenderized . Undersized portions of mashed potatoes.

Awesome food everytime we visit. Awesome service. Tonight met the owner Van Show very personable. Love the live music. Good customer service is everything!!! Always recommend!!!!

Fast and Friendly service..Excellent food. .. Korey was our waiter and did an amazing job making sure our glasses were full and our belly's satisfied. . if all restaurants could operate like this.. It would be great...excellent job Van

We had a big party celebrating a birthday, and our server, Brittany, was very kind and accommodating. The food was delicious as always! We love Tuffy s, one of our usual spots!

The food was excellent and Savannah was an awesome waitress very attentive. The managers Johnnie and Cindy friendly and helpful. Karilee up front took good care of us too.

Wife and I had the fried chicken breast with white gravy, we thought it was very good. Price is reasonable. Very good service

Hubs and I both ordered chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and I had green beans while he opted for okra. Neither of us cared for the food, except the okra and green beans. Our child had a mini corndog meal, and barely ate any. I nibbled on her fries, which were excellent! I found the chicken fried steak breading to be extremely salty, but it came off easily, leaving a rather dry piece of unseasoned meat. The mashed potatoes had all kinds of stuff in them, which made them gummy. Once again, very salty. We will try it again, unless we're just super repulsed, we always give a second chance. The positives: very friendly staff, very clean and homey restaurant, and wonderful live singer.

1st time in a few years since I've been to Tuffys. The food will not disappoint if you're looking for deep fried southern cooking. And then there are the rolls....that's a whole 5 star by themselves. Live music and good family place. Will go more often from now on.

Nothing short of EXCELLENT !!!! The food the music , everything was great.

Waited only about 15 min., waitress was very friendly and checked on us regularly. I ordered the chicken fried salad. It was served in a huge bowl..had plenty to eat there and to take home as well. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. It was also huge, and tasted good. Not a bad place to grab a meal.

Good food overall but not as good as it once was. Also they have reduced the number of items that are on the menu.

Our waiter was nice, the portions are huge and the price is fair for how much you get!

Chicken fried steak sandwich was really good, little messy but worth it. I was full just from sandwich and sweet tea, skipped the chips. Little hard to see where to turn in if your from out of town. Was told to give it a try from a local. The pies and cakes looked good but didn't have time to try them.

I had my share of Tuffy's as a family tradition growing up and it smells great the moment you enter the door, and the staff are respectful as well as generous.
It was disappointing to see it had went out of business, but am delighted to know I can now try their (hopefully vegan-friendly) menu after they have recently reopened!

Update: Good, consistent food lately. I'd give it 5 stars if you'd fix your sweet tea issues. Every time I eat here the sweet tea is either way too syrupy or not sweet at all.

Update (2 months later): I raised the review to 4 stars. Food portions greatly improved and much quicker service. Thanks for listening to your customers and fixing the issues.

I realize they just reopened after many long years, but I am being real generous giving 3 stars. As busy as it was last week we didn't have to wait to be seated, however once the waiter took our order, it took over an hour to receive our food. We had an excellent waiter who tried his best to check on us and keep us informed about the food. The sweet tea was actually un-sweet, and the waiter filled it twice, but still un-sweet. Apparently someone had mixed up the batches of tea but no big deal. When the food finally did arrive it tasted great, was fresh, and hot. I would have given this review 4 stars but the portions were all very small for the price in my opinion. My chicken fried steak looked like a kids portion and the fish platter was actually 4 tiny halves of whole catfish fillets. My wife doesn t each much, but even she said it wasn t quite enough food. I will say that the rolls were good, but too bad they came out an hour before our actual meals. If I could divide this review up I d give the waiter 5 stars, the cook staff efficiency 2 stars, the food quality 4 stars, and the food portions 2 stars. I will go back in a couple months and will change this review if I see improvement.

Great place good food and service was quick and very friendly. Also they have great looking pies and cakes there I will go back there when I pass through again worth a stop there

Let me start by saying this- we had a group of about 30 people. We ve been told Tuffy s in Mauriceville is a great place to eat, especially with a Group. We planned a surprise birthday party here solely based off of reviews.

I don t even know where else to begin. It was quite apparent that our two servers were overwhelmed. I m not sure about the young lady we had, but the young man serving us certainly didn t know what he was doing. Initially, we all got drinks. Awesome. We all waited a little bit for the guest of honor to arrive. Once he arrived we all started ordering. Appetizers came out. There was an array! The only ones I personally tried were the fried pickles. Although they look delicious, they are skinny & over salty. They tasted like batter and that s all! We ended up with a bunch of extra side salads, i think the kitchen made them twice. 20 minutes later, {some of} our food arrived! Awesome! Looks great- except a large number of us still don t have food. It took 15 minutes longer for some to get their plates. At this point, we ve been here an hour! During this entire time, we never got any refills on our drinks. We finally all get our food; only some of it got eaten. I got the Chicken Monterrey; It had a weird flavor to it. My husband got a burger and fries. By the time it got to us, it was luke warm. There was no sense in trying to send it back as it would I ve taken another half hour to get it again. Others got the country fried steak; mostly batter, some steak. Still, no refills. I had asked for one when my meal came and didn t receive it until we were waiting on the checks. The checks. Where do I begin? As we were boxing up our left overs, the servers went around AGAIN and asked all of us to repeat all of our orders. Supposedly, there was a glitch in their system! All meals were on one giant ticket and for whatever reason they couldn t get them to split. We waited on them to resolve this issue for nearly an hour. All 30 of us waiting around for an hour! They never did get it resolved and basically told us we d have to repeat our order for a third time in order to pay. There was no apology, only thanks for your patience , no offered cake, no discount and they included the gratuity anyway. Now- I understand the servers make minimum servers pay, but after all of the issues we faced tonight, we should have decided the tips. I ve heard the lady checking us out was rude to numerous people. I was so done with it I just signed the check and left.

I ve been in the food industry, in fact, my handlers license is still valid. These servers need a lot more training, the kitchen staff needs to use less salt and the customer service needs to be improved heavily. I m very disappointed in the service we received tonight. 2.5 hours from start to finish is insane. We weren t just sitting around having a good time- we were waiting on the staff.

The food was great and the live entertainment was absolutely wonderful.

Love the food. Staff is awesome more food that you can eat for an awesome price. Home cooked meal. Live music when we were there. New to town and is now our favorite regular spot to eat or just have coffee and cake.

Music on the weekends is awesome. Food is great chicken fried chicken is wonderful. The fried Catfish is great hard to pick which one I like the best.

Tuffy's has some killer food and the deep fried pickles are the best

First thing we had to do here is wait about 15 minutes. Not too bad. We we're always refreshed with drinks and "Need anything?" from our waiter. Food wise: they had better food before they closed. I was excited to try out the new Tuffy's, but I was disappointed because they didn't meet my expectations from re-opening. They do have a wide variety of dessert options, though.

Over priced they have closed and reopened this place way to many times. It was the best when the original Tuffy opened it. He passed away and its never been the same. Went there the other night and got the catfish " there speciality" it was horrible. It was more like catfish fingers for over $20 for catfish I left there still hungry. They need to close the doors for good. It will never be what it was when Tuffy opened it.

We decided to give tuffys a try this evening and we re NOT disappointed!!! The food was AMAZING and the portions are enormous! Our waitress, Savannah, was nothing short of awesome! We have definitely found our new regular restaurant! So glad they are back!!
