I've taken my time looking for a wedding dress and made an appointment at The Bridal Gallery last weekend. I know the style of dress I want, and I m even ready to order a Rebecca Ingram dress that I found online but haven't seen in person. TBG carries this designer, so I went to my appointment to see if there were any dresses I would love there, and if not, have them order the RI dress.
My consultant on Saturday was Deanna. This review does not apply to her, as she was a five-star experience. She was patient and made my experience wonderful, even with how busy the store was that day. In the end, I found a dress I liked. But since I was there by myself, I wanted my mom and sister (who live out of town but were visiting on the following Wednesday) to see it before I made a decision to purchase. It came down to ordering the dress I tried on that day or the RI dress.
I made an appointment for Wednesday evening to bring my mom and sister to see the one dress from Saturday. I was convinced that on Wednesday I would order a dress after my mom and sister could tell me which one would look best (even though I have never tried on the RI dress). On Wednesday the three of us were greeted by the receptionist and introduced to our consultant for the appointment to try on one dress. The consultant was not Deanna; she was an older woman who didn't crack a smile for the 30 minutes we were there. She quickly escorted me to a change room without saying much, and seemed irritated that my mom and sister didn't immediately follow. They were looking at some veils and other accessories in the store.
I quickly put on the dress and sensed that the consultant wanted us to hurry up. She came in and loosely put one clip on the back of the dress, but didn't bother clipping any other parts so I could see my shape better. I walked out and showed my mom and sister and the consultant just stood by the change room without saying a word. My mom and sister didn't love the look of it, which was totally fine, and just confirmed my decision to go ahead with ordering the RI dress. The consultant was almost insulted that my mom and sister were mentioning a few details they didn't really like. I had a few questions about the dress, and while answering, she responded more than once by addressing me with Sweetie in a condescending tone.
I told the consultant I would be excited to have them order the RI dress for me instead since I was provided a quote for it at my Saturday appointment. She got defensive when I asked if they could price match ($100 less) a different bridal store. $100 really didn't make a difference to me so I asked if I could have measurements taken to order the RI dress.
I changed into my clothes and went to the front counter for measurements. Right away, I was asked for a deposit for the RI dress I wanted to order. I wanted to talk it over with my mom and sister first, so I asked to have my measurements put on file and I would call to order the next day. By this point, the receptionist had a rude attitude and tone of voice, saying I d have to come in person to place my order and not over the phone. That s fine, I get that it s the policy, but refusing to take measurements without a deposit was something I have not come across before. She said her computer screen wouldn t allow her to open the measurements screen without first processing a deposit. By this point I had definitely got the message that they we weren t welcome if not placing a deposit. The entire appointment was so uncomfortable and they ensured we felt like an inconvenience. Even as the only customers in the store, they were so unwilling to help with anything. I won t be returning to TBG and will absolutely NOT recommend it to either of my two younger sisters or other friends, many of whom have upcoming weddings. Take your business to shops that actually appreciate their customers.
