The Wykeham Arms is a great pup tucked away near the cathedral. They have an open fire, dogs are allowed in the bar area and they do an awesome beef Sunday roast (a bit expensive but definitely worth it).

We loved our stay here, the room was fantastic(I think the best in the house) There is so much character in this pub/hotel and the rooms reflect this whilst also not feeling too cluttered. The facilities are excellent with both a lovely bath and a great spaceous shower. As it has been incredibily hot we appreciated the small fridge and the Dyson fan that are provided in the room.
Breakfast was served in the dining area and was to a good standard - I wouldn't be able to fault it but was not necessarily blown away.
The staff were kind and tried their best to adhere to socially distancing measures placed due to Coronavirus but I feel the rules/standards were not always clear as some staff behaved differently to others. That being said, this did not greatly affect our stay.
All in all, fantastic amenities in a wonderful location.

Very friendly and popular. I didn't have to wait long to be served, there were plenty of staff on. Walking distance from the city centre and a good selection of ales...lovely looking pub with an old fashioned feel

Lovely roast lamb , beef , chicken and lemon sole . Superbly cooked succulent meat and fish . However if not slightly under flavored meat as if all fat and juices were drained off . Late with cauliflower cheese and gravey grrr makes for More

When we arrived, the pub was busy and had a great atmosphere. Lovely decorative memorabilia adorned the walls and the barman was attentive. Our room wasn t available when we tried to check-in and the manager apologises and gave us a glass of wine and pint of ale on the house, no problem. When we got to the room, it exceeded our expectations, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and excellent facilities. The only negative was the shower was blocked, so the tray leaked.

The next morning at breakfast we were asked what room are you in? while this is not poor service I thought it would be nice if the staff at least tried to learn our names. I was called mate a few times by the waiter, a name I do not mind in a casual hospitality setting, but not as a resident. The ingredients at breakfast were high quality but poorly cooked.

We booked a table for dinner one night and it was a huge disappointment. Several of the courses were not available and my bread and olives were just sliced white bread and butter, it was described as something completely different. My fish & chips had a piece of plastic in the batter, but the waiter was apologetic and deducted the course from my bill. We also waited a long time for the meal and the staff were not particularly attentive, we always felt like we were bothering them if we needed something.

The suite we booked for the next two nights was delightful, but the private garden it was advertised to have was simply the patio of the adjacent coffee shop, it didn t feel very private or special.

The last morning at breakfast they had run out of tea, something I didn t think was possible in England, black pudding and brown bread. In all, The Wykham Arms was a beautiful pub, had a lovely bar and the ingredients they served were of a high standard, but the service was inadequate, and the execution of the cooking below average. A bit of a disappointment for our special Christmas weekend.

Good food. The olive/bread starter was nice.

Good food. The olive/bread starter was nice.
Very disappointed on where we were seated ( considering the table was booked two weeks in advance) we were given a table next to the kitchen. The smell of the cooking affected the enjoyment of our meal. We will never go back.......

Busy and very old school pub. Pardon the pun!! Enjoy the open fires and the bar menu. Very homely and good 4 a pint on a walk. Might have to wait for a table, but u won't want to leave!!!

London prices for fairly basic choice of beverages and staff seems always a bit grumpy, lovely interior though. A tourist trap right behind the cathedral. It looks great in theory, not so much in practice. There are better pubs around the area that are friendlier in all respects.

Great food - best chips I have had in a long while and fish was massive. Prices are a bit on the high side but we used the Eat Out deal. However, I was not happy to get the bill and notice a 12.5% service charge (calculated before the discount). You expect that sort of thing on a big group bookings maybe but it was just two of us. We paid it because I don t like causing a scene and it s not the waitresses fault obviously a company issue. The card machine also had the cheek to ask if we wanted to add a further gratuity payment! If I lived nearby and wasn t just visiting I would be put off returning because of this!

Recently stayed overnight at the Wykeham Arms and we had a great time. The pub / hotel / inn was so nicely presented. Food was excellent, staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was so nice and comfy with excellent facilities. Highly recommend a visit and so close to Winchester town centre and cathedral too.

Diabolical, never in my entire culinary dining experience have I been served the wrong meat, when the choice on the menu was between Beef and Pork, and then get served Lamb!!!!!!!. To then be told by the "Manager" and I use that term lightly "its not my fault we're busy".
The service from the start was poor to say the least, four attempts just to get some water on the table, a wine menu brought out which was no longer in use, told the wine we wanted unavailable, food brought out staggered (only 6 in our party) food served cold.
Poor is the only word I can write hear.
Deffo never go back.

Old style pub, tastefully decorated in keeping with its 18th Century origins. Good food, comfortable rooms and pleasant, helpful but unobtrusive staff.
A fitting base from which to journey out and explore the historically captivating Winchester!

Great pub with a nice food fire, very cozy and COVID friendly, great layout and one way system to ensure all patrons feel very safe. Behaved dogs are welcome inside the pub also. Variety of beers and alcoholic beverages. The food was great, tried the chicken and avocado sandwich as well as the smoked salmon and creme fraiche sandwich. Very good portion size and extremely tasty. Would definitely recommend this pub.

Such a nice friendly place. Really three pubs in one: lively bar, especially when rugby is on; and two restaurant areas either side each with a different character. Really lovely staff, good food, bit pricey, but superbly cooked and delicious. Good beer, fabulous coffee made by people who know how to create froth which is solid on a cappuccino, grand puddings. Well worth going to.

Had a crayfish tail toasted sandwich, and a half pint of ale. The food took a while, but was worth the wait. The sandwich was delicious. It came with a small portion of chips to which were well cooked.

Love this pub, been a traditional local for years .... Shane today my friend and I had to wait an hour for sandwiches at lunchtime. Pity as great food, but had to eat really fast to get back to appointments at 3pm

Obviously a very nice place, with nice beer, but this evening we were kept waiting for five minutes before being served! Not at all busy and just one person behind the bar indulging some loud Americans. All that was needed was acknowledgement of our presence, e.g. eye contact, but no. That was disappointing.
