Excellent food, excellent service & we could bring the dog into the bar area!
Staff really friendly and very accommodating. Quirky old school desks. We didn't eat but it smelt amazing and the restaurant was full.
The foods are very good for me. It's specially the Hari but fish manu.
The ideal pub - friendly, efficient service and care taken over drinks and food. It works for a drop in pint or a special meal with good friends. foreign visitors cant believe how lovely it is and always want to return next visit. Landlord and crew run a great inn.
I used to love this place but the service has always been slow. The dinner service was at a snail's pace ladt time I went. Food is very good but didn't have everything on the menu. Don't bother with dessert - far too small to give any pleasure.
Atmosphere just lovely, food excellent and staff great. One of the best pub experiences I've had in a long time.
Lovely dining room came in for lunch with a work colleague had three course stunning lunch and the staff went far and beyond to make sure we were happy. Great place
If you want a place that epitomises the concept of a pub, you'll find it here
The best pub in Winchester! Great beers, lots of history inside, friendly staff and fantastic food. No downsides!
The service wasn't great here this time and neither was the food.
Very good restaurant and pub. Reservation recommended.
Charming and comfortable interior. Slightly eccentric and uniquely English. Not the most imaginative menu, but the chef clearly knows his business and the food is well prepared and presented. Excellent wine menu.
Great English pub. Winchester prices but I think it's worth it for the atmosphere and food/drink quality. If I'm ever showing people around Winchester, I bring them here.
This very old pub is very popular, we phoned ahead to reserve a 2 hour time slot (max allowed) and were seated promptly by a very nice server. The wait for the food was excessive and the food itself was a let down. We had two appetizers of More
This is my local, and has been for many years. Brilliant for food and a wonderful assortment of beers, and other drinks. Staff always pleasant and extremely helpful !
Lovely pub and great bar staff. The food is good too.
Definitely lives upto its Gastropub rating the food is delicious and very well presented portion size is adequate, Pleasant atmosphere, olde worlde decor, waitresses seemed to be doing the best they could under covid restrictions. You need to book if you want to eat inside.
The Wykeham Arms has a lot of character, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food excellent.
Bit snooty, buy great service and good selection of drinks available.
Great accommodation. Friendly staff & very conveniently positioned to town centre .
Good variety of drinks, great bar staff and overall a great atmosphere.
Food seemed great and the surroundings were too, but the service was very slow. Otherwise it would get a 4/5.
Pleasant traditional pub. Good selection of drinks and ales.
What a nice menu. We only made the mistake that we only saw the front and thus to enjoy a dinner dish just in time we saw the lunch menu at the back.
It was recommended by someone from the local tourist information center. We were very happy!
Old streets, poor parking, great little retreat - especially if you're after a little cosiness and atmosphere. A line of two-person old school desks flank the opposite wall to the main bar, perfect for coupled companions and dim lighting to add to the ambience. Good beer, good wine. I'll be going again (as long as someone else does the parking).
Lovely Victorian pub with lively atmosphere. Very busy lunchtime pre Christmas which may have explained my friends cold food. Brought this to the attention of staff and received an apology but nothing else. A shame as my meal was piping hot. A small discount such as not taking money for her glass of wine would have been appreciated but not forthcoming.
superb Sunday roast, great surroundings and dog friendly
Love it. Best pub in Winchester. Always has been, always will. Forget the Christmas sheds in the Close, this is the real thing.
Lovely, cosy place, i recommend for a nice quiet drink or meal. Outdoor area.
Good beer with a traditional pub feel and a lovely atmosphere too!
Excellent atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great selection of whisky!
Lovely dog friendly pub but badly setup. The desk seats are connected so you constantly bump into your neighbour & the TV (for watching the rugby) was above the seating so the only way to properly see it was by standing at the bar bur realistically this is not an option.
A really lovely pub steeped in history. Delicious food and very comfortable rooms in the heart of beautiful Winchester
Brilliant old pub rooms are lovely staff very friendly and helpful food excellent.
Great pub with a lot of character, great drink selection and fireplaces!
Just got back from a Birthday treat away at the Wykeham Arms. After an initially warm welcome from friendly staff, the experience of The Wykeham Arms as a whole turned out to be rather disappointing. It is well situated near the college and More
As Good as a visit to Rick Steins restaurant but have the price.
Excellent Gastro-Pub. Luckily enough local to me. Quality food.
The people are friendly, food is superb, atmosphere is historic
We happened upon the Wykeham accidentally, after exploring the Winchester Cathedral. The pub was absolutely charming! They offered a wonderful variety of beer and ciders. We were able to spread out, as we had grown tired of each other's company, and passed an hour drinking at seperate tables, pretending to be British.
Brilliant pub, good choice of beers on offer and great surroundings.
Lovely old fashioned pub.. It's 'oldy wordy' with its historical artifacts everywhere but manages to be really sophisticated too. Food was fantastic definitely not pub grub.. Excellent.. with good selection even the bread and olives were quite something. The young barman was polite, incredibly helpful and attentive.. He's a real credit to this place.. If only you were treated like that in every establishment you go in.
Great pub with friendly staff and amazing food. The old school desks as tables adds real charm to the place
Beautiful old pub. Open log fire, old fashioned comfortable furniture. Brilliant staff. And better class of clientele.
Complacent - sad to see such lack of enthusiasm and basic respect for their customers from this historic pub. We booked a table for three and were served throughout the meal by an incredibly grumpy and rude woman. Fish and chips is not difficult to get right, but they managed to make all three dishes unexciting and soggy with grease. There are many pubs in Winchester - this one is busy, for now.
Most delicious food, particularly the starter of pate! Comfortable, old school furnishings with old school desks cleverly used as drinks tables. Close to Winchester city centre, definitely returning soon.
Looked nice only had a pint in the garden as now kids under 8 allowed.
Great service but let down by the little things. Rancid milk in fridge, missing bathrobes and woken by housekeeper on both days as there wasn't a 'do not disturb' door hanger.
A nice pub, but it knows it, so it feels self-consciously nice.
Can get crowded and tables squeezed in.
Food is good, but expensive.
Lovely pub, excellent for a post walk afternoon pint.
Excellent Sunday lunch extremely tasty great service overall all of the party enjoyed the experience.
Americans looking for the quintessential English pub need look no further.
Wonderful old school atmosphere literally with old desks to sit at with ink wells placed round the room or sit near a roaring fire and the bar.
Enter through a curved door from the street and step back in time, head towards a cozy restaurant to be treated with a smile and the
Kindest of staff.
Part of the college, part of the community a big part of our history within the walls, the surroundings and the people.
Glance at all the old pictures of Nelson and Winston and feel part of England's history past and present.
Very good dining, exceptional food caters for all dietry demands where possible and very friendly staff.
I have stayed in several rooms this year and many more to come, they have Grand rooms in a truly old world tradition, typical of the surrounding style of the college and nearly as old.
A must if you want a journey into the past with the modern comforts a true delight.
I could write more but but that is now for you to discover.
We had the same room 2 years ago, it was a bit tired looking then but now WOW what a fabulous update, bedroom, shower/toilet great, not sure about the bath in the bedroom will appeal to some!
Good food but limited choice, especially for vegetarians
Had a lovely luxury one night stay at this great pub full of character and charm. Great food. Rooms beautifully furnished. Came home and booked again!
Went to the pub part. Very cosy with fire place and typical pub decoration
Slow service, small portions and quite expensive, also considering the not-so-good quality.
We had such a lovely lunch here today, charming staff, great food and felt very Covid safe it was the first meal out for feel like ages I enjoyed it so much. Also very dog friendly and cosy feel with lots burner.
Perfect town pub. I just wish the beer prices weren't so expensive.
