The Wykeham Arms was another high point during our stay in Winchester.
Our morning started with coffee at the Cabinet Rooms up on Jewry Road, then we did a day of historic sites with a whole afternoon in Winchester Cathedral.
We then ducked around the corner to the Wykeham Arms. We had a fabulous pub dinner with some great wines and exotic Gin mixes. It was a great way to cap off a wonderful day.

Always a lovely venue with a great atmosphere and good beer. The food was tasty though if I am honest the change in the menu since I was last there (a few years ago?) is a bit disappointing. It really should do better than burgers, fish and chips etc...

We had made a booking for my birthday over a week ago and had received multiple confirmations. On the day, we drove an hour to Winchester and 1h before we were due at the Wykeham Arms got a message advising us that our booking had been cancelled as the place wouldn t accommodate our baby there.
The fact that kids are not allowed should have been made clear on the booking page and/or we should have been done earlier.
We are now in Winchester with a baby and nowhere to go for lunch. Thank you Wykeham Arms for ruining what could have been a great day!

Great rustic pub. Good selection of wines, lagers and ales. Reasonably priced and dog friendly. There's always a nice atmosphere here and a surprising amount of space for larger parties. Definitely one to add to the pub crawl

. ordered mussels which were full of grit or sand and un edible. Very basic mistake if you were supposed to be fine dining. not impressed with the menu at all. trying to get parked near the restaurant was almost impossible. seating not very good as well. had what one might call school desks. makes it look trendy good try getting your legs comfortably under the table. because of this. I couldn't wait soon enough to finish the meal. sad because it has the makings to be a good dining experience.

The Wykeham was a regular haunt for me back in the early years of the current millennium. Even then the place's heyday was already long gone following the departure of the much-loved original landlord, but enough of the character remained to draw the old crowd in.

The intervening years have resulted in a blander, more upmarket place, though judged against the standards of your average tied pub it's still decent: competent staff, reasonable beer and at least there's no music.

I recently went for dinner which again was unexceptionable if unexceptional. Somewhat overpriced and over ambitious but no moreso than your average pub really.

It remains a classic pub of the city, but sadly diminished with age.

Complimentary bread lovely but would have preferred Hampshire butter rather than what appeared to be avocado cream...
Pudding portion quite large could have shared but lovely... Would have preferred crackers rather than poppadoms with cheeseboard..... Service was excellent. Mains chicken and shepherd's pie brilliant... Atmosphere really nice

We stayed overnight in a small house accessed through a building on the opposite side of the road. There was a bedroom upstairs and a separate sitting area with a sofa bed downstairs. The bathroom was everything you'd need and the shower had great water pressure, albeit the head is possibly a little low in height for anyone above 5'9 or so. The staff were super and the food excellent. Within a stone's throw from the Cathedral and city centre but very quiet - our bedroom window was wide open overnight and the only noise in the morning was from the birds and the cathedral bells.

Honestly this was one of the best experiences I've had in the UK. The pub looks absolutely amazing, its super cosy. The atmosphere is outstanding as well, the nice warm fire definitely causes the restaurant to be nice and warm. The staff is very kind and thoughtful as well. The food is just as good as the other things I just described. Great quality, beautiful presentation and the taste is astonishing. Absolutely recommend going here for people seeking to have a typical British experience!

Always visit the Wykeham on a trip to Winchester. We had a meal this time instead of the usual pint or two, and it was very enjoyable. The only gripe was that they had run out of my favourite tipple, London Pride...in a Fuller's Pub...on a Friday!!

A fantastic pub in Winchester - olde world!! I would highly recommend their pies - best in South UK. Great location close to Cathedral, College and Jane Austen's. Fantastic Service to their moto!!

Been a number of times to this pub but first time in the 'covid' period. They had set it up really well, the pub still had a good atmosphere, service was prompt and food was excellent. It was actually probably my best visit so far which is quite a feat given what they are going through!

Lovely atmosphere and good menu. The rooms are absolutely great and have everything you need for a few nights away. Location is wonderful as really close to the city centre but still secluded from busy roads or nightlife.

We stayed in the days around our wedding and loved everything about it. We didn't mention we were getting married but obviously attracted attention walking in-and-out with a wedding dress and suit. Upon our return in the evening the staff had left a bottle of champagne and note in our room to congratulate us. A lovely personal touch.

I took six other people here for dinner, and the food was very good, all round, we all had something different, and three courses. all the courses were good sizes, so you didn't feel hungry or stuffed, and not one comment that wasn't "great" I love the atmosphere of this historic pub, and the fires in the winter. the old school desks are an interesting touch, and on a summer evening, the back garden is a dream.

would recommend this to anyone who cares about what they eat.

Welcoming staff. Breakfast poor quality ingredients. Evening meal poor. Scallops were small and only 3 for a tenner. Also texture of snot. Fish and chips would have been better at weatherspoons. Expensive. Never going back.

The main bar is lovely and great to get some work done before opening hours. I was being filmed in the bar and the staff made great efforts to makes sure they didn't interrupt the filming.

A quaint pub from another time. The Wykeham Arms has a beautiful historic interior styling with knick-knacks from throughout it's history adorning the walls. It has a good selection of rooms to stay in if you're visiting Winchester for a few days (or if you've had one too many at one of their special event nights!).

The food is of a good standard with a varied seasonal menu and the service on the whole is on point. Their roast dinner or fish & chips are amazing.

bohemian feeling when you get in, it's the perfect place for a night out when u want to relax but feel cool at the same time. the service on the bar is really good. you can dinner there as well, just be aware the restaurant closes early so my advice is to go early, enjoy dinner and stay for the bar. the food is gourmet and very tasty, I took out one star because the fish and chips were a disappointment.

Tiny tables for drinking - old school desks, okay Winchester has an old school but no need to make it uncomfortable to enjoy a beer. A very small choice of Fullers beers available was disappointing.

In the last year the Wykeham has gone from a welcoming high quality local to a very expensive cafe with bar.
If you want rushed mediocre high priced fodder then this place will suit you fine. It is neither gastro nor pub.
I went in, found an empty seat, because I wasn't eating I was ushered into the standing bar area. I found another empty seat and was again herded away.
Such a shame for Winchester to lose a great pub.
