Rooms smelled of carpet cleaner to cover up pet odors, if your room is by the elevator you can hear everything and everyone. I think they should only have pets on certain levels so you don't have to deal with smells and pet hair if your not a pet owner

Great experience here. Excellent location within walking distance of almost anything downtown. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ended up extending our stay by two days because we enjoyed it so much.

Stopped by the bar area to listen to our favorite local twosome (Bylines) around 8:30. Self seating and our server appeared almost immediately and took our drink order. The setting inside the Benson is gorgeous as they have restored it to its 1913 beauty with wonderful wood, classic ceilings and chandeliers along with comfortable chairs and tables. Our server checked with us regularly and in a very unobtrusive way. We stayed till about 10:20 (after the 2nd set had started) and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening (celebration of my birthday).

Horrible and rude management! We came after corporate Xmas party for drinks, because our Vice President, Sales Director and Corporate HR Manager stayed at this hotel. One of colleagues had expired ID, but with official stated issue prolongation paper (while she was waiting her new ID to arrive) and she DIDN T drink, but waiter told us that she has to leave. After that manager Liza Bohles came and said that SHE HAS TO LEAVE. After contacting a lawyer, we confirmed that we were totally OLCC complaint and they didn t have right to ask her to leave establishment. And our company said that it was their last time staying at that hotel. One they frequent often

Staff were friendly and my room/ room service was great. I had a previous issue with my billing as I booked through my work account, but the hotel was able to clear it up for me which was greatly appreciated.

Great boutique hotel in downtown. When I stayed same price or less than the mid market chains. Great classic note lobby with wonderful guest suites. Attentive staff. Valet parking on site. And right in the heart of everything. Was able to walk to all of the major locations.

fine

Went to the showing of their annual gingerbread display, which is always fun. They had one of the chefs out and answering questions, free gingerbread men cookies, hot cider, etc. Their Christmas tree is also nicely decorated.

The hotel has a very nice classy and vintage look, especially the lobby. It was the history and style of the hotel that originally attracted me and my fiance to stay here. The hotel room itself ended up being mediocre: small size, dustier than other hotels, bed wasn't as comfortable as other hotels of similar price range, very thin walls. Our room happens to be the one near the elevators so we keep hearing people talking loudly while walking through the halls at night and early morning. I kept waking up throughout the night from noise which doesn't exactly help me get peaceful sleep on a vacation. One of the main issues is the noticible grime when the bathtub is filled with water and the broken switch in the tub that allows water to come out of the faucet rather than the shower head. I called the front desk to address these issues on the first day but they were not solved even though I was told they would be the next day. Now on my third day here, I still have to use the shower head to fill the tub which takes an extremely long amount of time. While laying in the tub, I still am able to remove the yellowish green grime on the side of the tub with my fingers. Customer service just didn't come through for this one. We will choose to stay at a different hotel the next time we're in Portland.

For the history & ambiance of the place, it was a nice stay. The bed was comfortable, but it sat on a raw wooden stand that almost took my big toe off. (See pix) The furniture was abused & not restored, making it feel less that the high class advertisements. The structure of the faucet /sink combination (bathroom) was highly unfunctionable, spreading water everywhere with each use. Towels and linens all white and fluffy.
View from the 12th floor was excellent, all service attendants were competent & exceptable. 2 of the waters stood out for us in the Dinning room. "Harvest" was very attentive, with menu, food service, & even retrieving my husband's left behind wallet. He was exceptional & over qualified for his position, his demeanor was friendly, personable & welcoming. (We could visualize him in management) "John" was our friendly server, who started out, friendly and helpful at first, but then turned into a bit of a salesman, with his "I'm trying to save you money routine" but very attentive none the less.

Everything about The Benson was great. The lobby is beautiful and easy to navigate. The service counter was super pleasant to interact with. Check in took all of about 60 seconds. The bed may be the most comfortable bed I've ever encountered in a hotel. The location of the Hotel was super convenient. I would absolutely stay here again.

The Benson is upscale without being stuffy. They managed to maintain the historical importance of the property while integrating modern amenities, such as deep soaking tubs in the en suite bathroom, and memory foam mattresses.

The Benson is a historic hotel located in downtown Portland. The renovated rooms are much nicer than the older look the rooms used to have. The staff is friendly, and the lobby is absolutely gorgeous. I did dock a star, since there are some real crazies roaming the streets in that area. Paranoia Park (O'Bryant Square) is located a few blocks up from the Benson and this park lives up to its nickname. I know it's not the hotel's fault, but when you see a tweaking homeless guy make his way down from the park, and give himself a sponge bath using the drinking fountain on the corner, it's sort of sticks with you. That said, the hotel itself is beautiful, the room is are nice and the staff is friendly.

I love the Benson in downtown Portland. Beautiful entryway. Building is old and we'll taken care of. Rooms are beautiful. Fun secret passages...if you can find them!!! My favorite downtown hotel!!!

The Benson is a nice hotel. It was built in 1912 or 1914 so expect much smaller bathrooms in the room. There is only one mirror in the room as well which was a downfall. The service was brilliant. The front desk gave us a free upgrade and sent champagne to the suite for our honeymoon. The hotel bar had good service as well. Decent location in the heart of downtown Portland. Easy to catch an Uber!

This hotel is loud, dirty and has terrible food. My room hasn't been cleaned, my trash is overflowing, and I've run out of towels. <br/>Never stay here - it is an overpriced h hole.

I placed a review on Trip Advisor, and the hotel flagged it for removal, so I reposted. What a disgusting business.

I'm only rating the bar. Which is one of the better places to rendezvous in downtown. The lounge at the Benson just feels classy, and doesn't have a "trying too hard to impress" feel as some other places in the downtown core do. Drinks aren't the cheapest, but you're paying for location, and ambiance. Service is attentive and solid, and cocktails are very well poured indeed. Weekends often have live music, making for a great date night environment. Because the Benson is "venerated" and Portland, as opposed to the big chain hotels close by, a lot of locals pass it by, and a lot of travelers think to ignore this great bar. Worth a visit.

Such a great place to stay. Located in the heart of downtown Portland. The hotel lobby is very nice and cozy. The room is a bit small and too plain.
I like the fact that they have complimentary wine and live music on the weekend.
I saw people were walking around with dogs. I'm guessing this is a pet friendly hotel. This hotel does not have self parking garage . It has to be valet and it is $40 per night.
