The room is spacious and comfortable, although it is an old hotel, badly remodeled since it was impossible to use the original electrical contacts on the walls because they were in poor condition. Only the electrical contacts built into the new furniture could be used. The windows were made of wood and in addition to not sealing and it was very cold, the noise from the street also passed a lot. Especially a bar that is opposite.
The bathroom was also badly remodeled, it showed more than in the room the old, and flying insects came out of the walls.
We asked for room service, and in general the food was delicious.
The attention of the employees from the receptionist to the bell boy was terrible.

Always a solid choice. It's close to everything, especially Powell's Books, food and entertanment. The hotel is a bit dated but they are making upgrades. Our room had an updated bathroom which was very modern but the sink area lacked space for person items. The beds and linens are superb. Air conditioning runs warm, but what hotel doesnt?

Nice hotel overall. Friendly staff and clean rooms. The little details keep it from being a great hotel. Low water pressure, dim lights in the room, and no counter space in the bathroom.

In the 37 years I've lived with and known my older brother, his entire life never had he given me a compliment. After booking this place, he told me this is the best decision I've ever made.

I'm married with a child and a nice job... I'll take the compliment.

We purchased the jr suite for our anniversary I noticed a stain and moved the end of the bed bench and it was obvious someone (likely a guest) tried to hit the red stain on white carpet. I did not want to be charged for someone else's mess so I called the front desk to make them aware. She took care of the problem flawlessly offering us an upgrade which put us in the penthouse for the night. A++ customer service. Also the penthouse isnt worth the $500 a night the jr suite is nicer in our opinion but very much enjoyed our stay and we will be back. Photos attached are of the penthouse.

Nice rooms. Faucet in the bathroom could be a bit more centered. It gets everything wet when washing hands. New carpet is a plus. Would of given 5 stars. But as I arrived to my room at around 3:30 housekeeping hadn't cleaned the room. We had to call the reception area. It was such an inconvenience as we have 3 small children and looking forward to rest. Housekeeping came and cleaned the room while we rested. We had to keep the kids out of the way of the housekeeper. She wanted to do thorough cleaning but I had to stop her as our toddlers got inpatient. Not a fan

We chose the Benson because of the good reviews we had read online. While I think the Benson is truly a historic gem (I love the lobby, many of the preserved historic parts, the staircase, and the live band), I found the rooms to be dated and maybe a bit dirty because it felt dusty. As we walked down the poorly lit hallway to our room, I thought for a moment that this place could be haunted (Definitely won't be getting ice by myself late at night!). I most likely will not be staying at the Benson the next time I go to Portland. Tip: Valet is $40, but there is a lot down block for $20 self park.

The staff was amazing. The rooms were really nice. The staircase is a museum of history about the hotel. That was amazing to read and see all the pictures. I also got my steps in.. Room rates are not to bad for a last minute booking. I will definitely stay here again

Very nice hotel! Very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Not very loud and couldn't really really anyone in the rooms next to us or out in the hall. The elevators were EXTREMELY slow, but overall that's not that big of an issue. I would for sure stay here again.

Despite needing some better soundproofing, I have to say this hotel was comfortable, accommodating, and worth a visit

The Benson makes a grand impression right from the start. The lobby area is richly wrapped in dark-stained, ceiling-tall wood panels that invoke old-world wealth, and you can imagine it as a turn-of-the century star attraction of downtown Portland. That deeply historical feel is sadly lacking on the West Coast.

The local area provides a large assortment of easily accessible, excellent restaurants.

This hotel has apparently been in near-constant renovation for some time, and there were contractors on the go at all daytime hours, but conscientiously quiet during morning and evening hours. The updated furnishings in my room were tasteful: USB ports along with power outlets were a part of the workdesk area. The room was composed of simple and elegant lines. I found the accommodations quite comfortable. Unfortunately, I did ind that the environment of downtown Portland brought quite a lot of noise into my room whether it be a wannabe street racer's exhaust as they sped up the main streets or local flavor having loud arguments. And this was the 8th floor!

Would recommend this hotel to anyone considering it.

Huge rooms, great food from room service, friendly staff, and awesome downtown location. Can't really ask for much more! The street outside is loud though, but I live in a city and am used to the noise.

Had to change the rooms twice., 1st room had a stinky smell coming out of it, restroom was dirty. The second room had no exhaust working. The roll away crib that they speak of is a 'pack and play' with a soiled sheet which smells like it has not been washed in a couple of months. The housecleaning will go through your stuff on a regular basis, which we spotted them doing so when we were returning and the housecleaning did not know that we were standing right there. The parking is good but a little expensive at $36/day. There are a lot of better hotels in the area with the similar price point. Avoid if you can.

A warm welcome at the valet as well as smiling professionals at the front desk make for a great welcome at this historic Hotel. Inviting newly renovated rooms and comfortable mattresses in our room. A jazz band and wine tasting in the evening. Great room service at very reasonable prices. We will be back to stay at the Benson.

The Benson is easily my favorite hotel in Portland especially over the holidays. I live in Portland so don t typically need a hotel here but for special occasion it s always our go to place. Over the past couple of years we stay here Christmas Eve and Christmas night. It s my absolute favorite. If you haven t been to the Benson at Christmas time you re really missing out. The bar is one of our go to spots after work even if we are not staying there. We joke that the lobby is our living room. The Benson has beautiful architecture and decor, great guest rooms, and the best part is their top notch service. I love it here. The Benson provides something so special.

First thing you should know is that the Benson is a very old hotel. It was made in the 1910's and is one of the oldest buildings in Portland. Understand that hotel rooms were much smaller back then. I travel a bit for business and was a little shocked to realize that the rooms were about a third of the size of a regular Hilton hotel room.

With that said, the hotel is BEAUTIFUL! The woodwork in the lobby is amazing. The staff is great. I had no problems checking in, in fact there was no wait. The rooms are very elegantly designed and the mattress was heavenly.

One of he best parts of staying at the Benson is the location. It is in the heart of downtown. Minutes away from almost everything in Portland. If you're staying at the Benson, don't bother renting a car unless you plan on leaving the city.

They were so kind and accommodating to us when we needed a place to stay with our dogs after evacuating due to wildfires. They helped us get all our stuff up to the room, gave us a discount, and let us check out whenever without penalty so we could get back home as soon as it was safe to. They were great with our dogs as well, and were happy to bring up ordered food to the room. They were wonderful! And the room was extremely nice.

The Benson Hotel is a beautiful building with a gorgeous lobby. The rooms are tidy, and well appointed. The bell hop was courteous and expedient. It is centrally located to most of downtown Portland hot spots.

Unfortunately, there was a Fireman's Union Ball being hosted that I was not made aware of when booking. An event that would have caused me to book my hotel elsewhere. During the night of said ball, a fireman pulled the Fire Alarm causing the building to need to be fully evacuated. 4 of my 13 person party who had stayed in the hotel due to illness and injury, were forced to walk down 8 flights of stairs and then made to stand in the cold, wet weather due to a Fireman's prank.

I would highly recommend explicitly requesting if an event is being hosted at the hotel, else you may not be made informed of it.

The Benson is an elegant older hotel that could use some updating. The elevators were unreliable coming down from the penthouse. Great location downtown, walkable to everything. The staff was great and the room was clean.

I ve moved here not too long ago and my parents were visiting and were told the Benson Hotel was a good place to stay. So I told my parents to stay there for the visit. They were very very impressed. Thank you for the kind hospitality. Thank you thank you.

Pretty good fit for a fancy hotel in Portland I guess but the rooms are small the hallways are gross. A redeeming quality is theyve invested in having nice, comfy room furnishings, the carpet, the bed, etc are all very good. The lobby is crowded and there aren't even that many people. The elevators are slow. This hotel is old but instead of charming it's gothic and stiff.

Conveniently located near a lot of fun spots in Portland this is a nice hotel with a few nice amenities. The bed was a memory foam mattress and there were a lot of pillow options. Turn down service was a nice bonus as well as the plus robe and slippers. The bathroom was tiny but functional. Noise carries quite a bit from the hallways. The complintary coffee in the lobby was nice as well as offering Starbucks in the coffee maker in the room (ceramic mugs were also a plus). I wish that bottled water has been provided in the room.

We stayed in the Portland, Oregon location. It was one of the best nights I've had in a hotel. It wad for our wedding night and they graced us with Champagne and little chocolates. Sweet people at the front desk as well. Even heard them talk to a disgruntled guest and defused the situation quickly with grace. Thank you!

A historic, long-established hotel that opened in 1912. Located in the heart of a gridded city, it has good access to popular restaurants and bookstores. Many celebrities, including Luciano Pavarotti, Queen Noor of Jordan, David Bowie, and James Brown, have stayed to date. Paul McCartney stayed at the time of the US tour in November 2005. Also, since Harry Truman, it is possible that all Presidents of the United States except George Walker Bush have stayed. (From Wikipedia)
The appearance and the lobby on the first floor look dignified, but the rooms are stylish and clean. WIFI complete. For some reason, the audience saw only bright and fat grannies every day! I did not receive a meal because I stayed bare, but it seemed to have a good reputation in word of mouth The amenities did not have slippers and a toothbrush, but when I asked about the toothbrush, a commercial item was put immediately after room service! Although I stayed for 3 nights, I had no trouble or trouble and I could spend it comfortably. It seems that there is a shuttle bus to the airport, so I thought that it would be used because it is an early morning flight, but because it is not free (I forgot the price but it is expensive ...!) used.

The benson was a wonderful experience. The staff is kind and very helpful. The food in the bar was superb and the price was reasonable. The building itself is rather beautiful with all its masonry and wood design. All in all it was a great experience.
