They charge you resort fees? Rooms were small, and AC was loud. A lot of homeless people around the hotel.

Attended an event -- their food was good but a bit boring compared to other Portland eateries.
Meticulously cared for, gorgeous ambiance, excellent location, free quality breakfast, free bottled water, free cookies (excellent cookies), free lunch snack packs, excellent valet service, reasonably priced, wonderful staff, good workout room, nice dipping pool (can't swim laps). I love this place.
I went for an event. It's really pretty, but all of the elevators were down and it didn't seem very wheelchair accessible anyways.

Stayed for just one night, room was nice and clean and modern. Perfect for someone staying on business for a couple of days. Didn't have a chance to try out the restaurant or any other facilities.
Best bed ever. Mattress was firm with memory foam on top, very comfortable. Room nice, bathroom a bit "cozy", especially the vanity. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Solid internet, good coffee in room.
Great servers great service hot water took 15 minuets to warm up.
Had a horrible night there. When I went to bed at 11:30pm, half of the mattress was wet. Have to switch to another room at middle of night. Not fun at all.
Very strange staff member called Summer, completely unprofessional.
I can only comment on the lounge/bar area. I arrived with a mixed group of locals + tourists on a busy Saturday evening. The pianist was playing "name that tune" for Hershey kisses. The server, John, was as wonderful as one could hope, and the drinks were flowing freely. I highly recommend the Benson for a taste of old Portland.
A pleasant, small space to sit comfortably and chat with friends over a couple of really excellent bottles of wine. Ambiance is great and the piano player is quite talented. Waitstaff is good and the food is quite tasty. Try the Brussels sprouts!

Love this hotel. We went in early summer, weather was perfect. It's worth spending a few dollars more for a suite or suite-like room. We had plenty of space for seven family members to congregate (not sharing the room, lol) and the cross ventilation with windows facing two ways in our corner room made it just perfect. Great photo opportunities from our eighth floor room. On an earlier trip we had a smaller room which was a bit stuffy in midsummer like another poster mentioned.

Summer at front desk is the best! My boyfriend and I stayed here for his birthday and when Summer took his driver's license and saw it was his birthday she went above and beyond to make our stay special. She offered us a discounted suite and sent up champagne and brownies and a very sweet handwritten birthday card. We are going to Portland on a whim this weekend and when we went looking for where to stay we immediately thought of Summer's excellent service and booked a room at The Benson.
It's also just a beautiful hotel to stay at as well!

This was a wonderful hotel to stay the rooms were absolutely beautiful and very clean, the food and service was prefect and the location is close to everything. I would highly recommend staying here.
A Place of attentive service, elegance and comfort
Attentive and excellent service is increasingly rare. When combined with elegance and comforr, the Benson is head and shoulders above the rest. Anytime I am headed to Portland and know I am to stay at the Benson, I eagerly anticipate the stay. This stay is no exception. From the warm welcome at the front desk, to the early check in and a
incredibly comfortable bed, I am so happy to be settling in here after a day of walking the city. Having drinks or dining at the Palm Court adds to the overall experience allowing the Benson to be a place of refuge and relaxation after a full day. I love the total experience of a stay at the Benson.
I should probably deduct a star because the mattress was really uncomfortable, but they had fuzzy faux fur blankets and pillows that I LOVED. So snuggly!! There's no pool (a minus when travelling with kids) but the building is gorgeous, the service is good and it's right downtown. I wouldn't go back unless it was a romantic weekend away with just my husband.

Overpriced but cool if you're into fanciness. Hotel wouldn't let me check in on the reservation my husband made because my last name wasn't the same, even though I had the confirmation number and his credit card. I guess I understand why but it was annoying and they were not helpful.
