Beautiful hotel in downtown Portland. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and they kindly upgraded us to a junior suite, and provided us with complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on our first night. The room was very comfortable, but was a little disappointed in that there was no microwave. The front desk staff and valets were helpful if we had questions about things to see and do in the area.

The Benson was more than we could have imagined. The service was fantastic all around. Super friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The room was very clean and inviting. Room service was quick and delicious as well. You can't go wrong with choosing the Benson for your stay in Portland.

An exceptionally nice historic hotel with a modern refresh for the rooms. Traveling solo and although the room I got was small I was really comfortable. I appreciate the historic details and enjoyed those classic touches.

The Benson in my opinion is the most elegant and historical hotel in Portland.. It has an air about it similar to The Plaza in New York City but of course much smaller. It reminds me that Portland isn't just a weird place. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the USA. And the Benson is a reflection of that beauty.

Lovely property with fantastic historic charm. The lobby is beautiful and our room is quite spacious. Fantastic staff, Mr Rowland and the concierge team are great at assisting in planning a phenomenal time.

We stayed at the Benson for New Year's. We got a basic classic king room, and it met our expectations. The bed was very comfy and it was spacious. It has a great location downtown, and the bar was the perfect spot to ring in the new year. Will definitely have to stay again!

Overall, the Benson was a nice place to stay. The whole feel of the place was wonderful. Everyone from the valet to the front desk and room service staff were very friendly and willing to help in any way. The lobby is elegant and makes for a wonderful back drop for a glass of wine and great conversation. The rooms are on the small side, but the beds are so comfortable with their Tempur- Pedic mattresses. Our room, however, had a few little things that made our stay not completely the best. Our room was located right by the elevators, which meant we had a lot of noise from other patrons moving about and talking. We also noticed the air vent in our room rattled a lot during the night, which kept waking us up (which we fixed by tightening the vent screw, not a huge deal.) Would we stay here again? I would say yes, though we would ask for a room not so close to the elevators :)

Nice hotel, unless they try to put you in the room on the end. It's the size of a broom closet. I think they only put company (company is paying for room) people there. I hate that room! You can get a comfort fish if you get lonely. Just be careful, if you get thirsty during the night. The fish bowl is about the size of a large drinking glass. Whoops.

Great place to stay in Portland. Very cozy and right at the middle of the city. Clean rooms and I appreciate how they have complimentary water bottles in the room. Its the little things that count.

outdated old hotel that has charm, but the walls and windows let in all noise, you can hear loud noises from other people's bathrooms, rooms are small, bathrooms are not updated, and rooms have cords running everywhere. For $280 a night, stay at any other hotel in the area.

Big room, friendly staff and a great location. We stayed here on Thanksgiving and did some black Friday shopping the day after. Definitely a good experience. The only down side was the $60 plus we paid in parking for the 2 nights we stayed. I would stay at the Benson again with no hesitation.

The Benson in downtown Portland is a beautiful, well-maintained structure made all the more inviting by skilled and pleasant staff. Everything about my stay was as perfect as it possibly could have been and I eagerly await my return.

My brand new Husband and I stayed The Benson this week to celebrate our honeymoon, and we are both so pleased with our choice! We are not typically big spenders, and we rarely get the opportunity to stay in nice hotels; in the past we have spent quite a bit and been left feeling a little looked down upon or forgotten in a nice hotel. However, we were blown away by the level of attention and all around friendly service we received for the cost of our room at The Benson! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles, and the eagerness to help. Everyone from the doormen, to the house keeping staff were polite and friendly. Our room was wonderful, clean and inviting. We got lucky and wound up in a corner room over looking the city. The king bed was so comfortable and wonderful to sleep in after walking around Portland all day. On our first night we consulted the concierge for a dining suggestion within walking distance, not only did we receive the perfect suggestion but, they also reserved a table for us and called ahead to let the restaurant know we were celebrating our marriage. All in all, our stay at The Benson was exemplary and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Portland!

Michael and Sophie are amazing. They are welcoming and extremely accommodating of my frequently changing schedule. Jeff in the bar has a depth of experience and knowledge about Portland and has been very supportive. I am a local business who just opened and they have helped my business grow. The Benson represents quintessential Portland. They never rest on their laurels and continue to provide high class service and accommodations.

The staff went above and beyond. Even went as far as getting a dozen roses for my wife. We will be returning at some point. You guys helped make a early Valentine's for my wife a true blessing. Thank you so much for your freaking awesome service!

The check in/out process was very quick and very detail. Like the live music. Not too many hotels have this program anymore.
However the room we had on 7th floor was not sound proof. We could hear noises from the street. And the refrigerator was not working/not cold.

The Benson hotel has established itself as my go-to location when traveling to Portland. The hotel staff are kind and inviting. They responded to the current pandemic with care and attention. All aspects of our room were clean, and clearly marked as sanitized prior to our stay. The remote control was even shrink-wrapped for easy cleaning.

We brought our dog with us on this trip, and they gave her a welcome gift with a toy (her new favorite!) and treat, and some baggies to clean up on walks. The hotel staff were happy to direct us to the nearby parks when time for her walks, and recommended dog-friendly dining options with outdoor seating. Although the Palm Court restaurant is temporarily "closed" the seating is still open and they welcomed us by offering a complimentary drink each evening. Most guests opted to take drinks to their room, but my husband and I enjoyed them at a table downstairs, and I'm glad we did.

Jeff in the Palm Court is a stand-out host. He greeted us, and our dog, warmly each evening. Even with social distancing and masks, you could see the smile in his eyes, and hear it in his voice. He asked warmly about our day, and gave us some wonderful suggestions for a dog-friendly itinerary walking trails near the zoo and seeing the local sights. He really helped make our trip a success.

Also, I can't say enough good things about the service and accommodations overall. Unfortunately, the first room we had developed a clog in the shower drain, and we discovered it at midnight. Despite the late hour, front desk staff responded promptly with keys to a new room so we could shower, and offered to help us relocate on the spot. We were tired though, and asked to wait until morning. After breakfast, they sent a valet to move all our bags across the hall for us, and upgraded us to a larger room. Service was exceptional, and the beds in this hotel are the absolute most comfortable that I've ever slept on. Seriously, best mattress, and best sleep in years!

When it came time for checkout we called the front desk who sent the valet to pull our car around, and another person to pick up our bags for us. He said something like, "you're welcome to head downstairs if you'd like, and I'll load the bags and bring them to you. Your car should already be waiting." I over-packed, and was getting used to lugging things around on my road-trip, but the Benson team didn't make us lift a finger. Every need was tended to during our stay. This place earned all 5 stars!

Elevators had long wait times last night, then went completely out of service. Hotel management shifted over to use of a single service elevator operated by a porter. Something so basic, hotel has to get this right.

Enjoying the relaxed yet professional ambience of the Benson. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the fact that we could open the window in our room is a real bonus. Thank you for your hospitality.

I recently stayed here with a friend who was staying from out of town. Our stay was beautiful. We stayed in a penthouse and were really not all that disappointed. Beautiful decor, classic luxury, and friendly and helpful staff. I found it odd that I had to give my car keys when I pulled in my car to retrieve my luggage, but hey, whatever works. All in all, I would stay again.

The lobby was opulent, and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were great. The only thing I would fix is the placement of the tap in the bathroom. They are positioned so that they have the unintended consequence of causing either your hands to bump into the sink wall or splashing water everywhere. All in all, however, the hotel was a a great place to visit.

Rooms are very small and outdated. Based on my personal experience - my desk lamp did not work and the fridge was locked. No complimentary water bottles, have to pay $2 at the vending machine. Overall not that great of a hotel for the price point. Just like every other hotel they want you to reuse your towels and sheets.

Nice rooms with friendly service. The historic nature of the hotel (it's over 100 years old) is nice, but the ancient elevators are incredibly slow. Find the stairs until they get around to replacing the elevators!

Ornate styling and architecture appeals to a more traditional crowd. Very relaxing smooth jazz played in the lobby, and the staff are all engagingly friendly. Building is a little old and musty so it triggers my allergies

Awesome cozy place during our stay in what turned out to be one of the harshest storms in 5ish years. The bar is great to warm the body and good sitting areas to warm the soul with good company
