Despite needing some better soundproofing, I have to say this hotel was comfortable, accommodating, and worth a visit

The Benson makes a grand impression right from the start. The lobby area is richly wrapped in dark-stained, ceiling-tall wood panels that invoke old-world wealth, and you can imagine it as a turn-of-the century star attraction of downtown Portland. That deeply historical feel is sadly lacking on the West Coast.

The local area provides a large assortment of easily accessible, excellent restaurants.

This hotel has apparently been in near-constant renovation for some time, and there were contractors on the go at all daytime hours, but conscientiously quiet during morning and evening hours. The updated furnishings in my room were tasteful: USB ports along with power outlets were a part of the workdesk area. The room was composed of simple and elegant lines. I found the accommodations quite comfortable. Unfortunately, I did ind that the environment of downtown Portland brought quite a lot of noise into my room whether it be a wannabe street racer's exhaust as they sped up the main streets or local flavor having loud arguments. And this was the 8th floor!

Would recommend this hotel to anyone considering it.
