This is an amazing hotel with incredible staff. The architecture is one of a kind. Service is impeccable, staff is attentive and everyone is helpful and kind.

We attended a work holiday party at the Benson. The food was tasty and the venue was beautiful, but the people staffing the bar and other areas were very rude. The deal they cut for our party to stay the night was maybe 10 dollars cheaper. An expensive place like this could have cut us a little better deal than that since we had a fair amount of people coming. Overall, I'd give the hotel a 5/10. I would recommend another venue.
Fairly good updates to a very old hotel. Clean rooms, kind and attentive staff, and a fantastic location.
Nice historic hotel. Charming if you want to stay at old renovated hotel. Good location, in the center of many things. Only downside is the expensive parking if you're driving.
Free earplugs!
Incredibly bad WiFi - basically unusable. Someone's dog was barking nearby much of the evening. The speakers on the TV honk at certain tones. The safe wouldn't lock. The plumbing made loud banging noises. Shall I go on?
The room and bathroom were nice, and I slept comfortably (with earplugs).
My significant other and I loved this place went here on our anniversary we had a great experience we loved the history behind this hotel and the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly we will definitely go back.
We attend a monthly meeting here and the service and food are always fantastic! Also we had our holiday party here, and it was perfect.
We're still here but are enjoying the hotel. The rooms are nice and the staff are very accommodating.
I got the eggs Benedict and it was a little greasy, but overall good. It took a while to get our drinks. A little pricey, and busy depending when you go.
I love this place. Old World Charm marries modern amenities. Hope I can find a reason to come back.
Beautiful hotel with lovely spacious rooms. Great staff and very dog friendly with treats and grab bags!
Service has gone steadily downhill in the last few years. The building is fun but we had to wait 2 hours past the check-in time to get into our room. Then, there was no soap. Staff seem demoralized.
The staff was great and the room was comfortable. However, the room was small and there weren't many amenities for the price the Benson is asking for.
Great friendly staff immaculate rooms.. I cant ask for more.. and the concierge helped guide us on our visit in Portland.
Stayed here with work. Rooms are clean, well lit. Plush carpet and super comfy beds, and they are not stingy with their pillows =D also their bar in the lobby does kick ass breakfast. Bobbie was super helpful, and attentive with our large group. Service was top notch!
Room was small but comfortable enough, however drinks in the lobby bar were spoilt by Darren the server who became loud and aggressive towards us after asking our 21 & 1/2 year old daughter for ID. We tried to explain that she is a uni student in Oregon and does not carry her passport with her in case it is lost or stolen. She carries her Australian drivers license and a copy of her passport on her phone which he refused to look at.
Needless to say we only stayed for one drink and won't be back at the Benson ever again.
Nice historic Hotel in Downtown. Shopping and Dining is just a short walk! Rooms clean and just the right size.
Absolutely lovely. Historic hotel, beautiful room and incredibly comfy bed. Great service and location. Love it
The Benson is a beautifully kept old hotel with a great staff and good food.
Great location, close to everything we wanted to see! Rooms are comfortable and clean, and the lobby is a nice place to meet up.
Our receptionist Summer was stellar and sent champagne and brownies up for celebrating our recent nuptials.
The service staff including management were very helpful from check in to driving us to the train station. The premises were very well maintained and secure. Thanks to Will,Ian,Michael and Howard you helped make Portland,Portland.
Very friendly service here. Room on third floor was lovely, but smelled like cigarette smoke. Came to find out there is a cigar lounge below, and they wanted to act like it was our imagination of the smell. With some finagaling we received a discount and that is the only reason this review is what it is. I'm positive any other room would be lovely as can be, so I'd highly recommend a stay there.
Junior suite is super nice, a bit pricey but very happy to be here
High tech where it counts, old world at its best. The lobby in this hotel is STUNNING (burnished wood panelling shining on every wall), and the staff here are friendly as well as knowledgable. Perfect placement in southeast to allow easy access to shops, take out (or sit down) eateries and coffee shops, beautiful modern rooms and marble-tiled bathrooms! I can't get over the opening mechanism on the windows! This place is where I will aim to stay whenever I have to be in Portland.
Great hotel! The bar was fun and love all the old architecture!
Nice historic hotel in downtown Portland. Walking distance to so many great spots plus lots of easy to use public transportation nearby. Executive suite was clean and comfy with views from two large windows. Staff was very friendly and professional. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant though. Tons of better places to eat in Downtown and the wait staff was rude.
Absolutely love The Benson! Concierge was extremely helpful and is in a great location. Also love their, "companion fish" that can stay in the room with you.
Sometime you just have to leave home and relax even when it's in your state
Nice Hotel with renovated rooms. Very comfortable beds too.
Quick check-in, good service, clean room, quick check-out, no complaints.
It's an old hotel, but has been updated well. It still maintains a Lobby with an old wood finish. The bathroom only fits one person at a time. There is exactly an inch and a half of clearance between the shower door and the toilet. Be sure to leave plenty of time for each individual to get ready in the morning. The Benson does have the nice, firm, memory foam mattresses. The hotel is next to a sports bar that does get a little Rowdy, depending on the night. The sound definitely bleeds into the rooms. The only reason I stayed here was El Gaucho is downstairs and there aren't many places you can have a Manhattan, awesome desserts and a good cigar. The last thing worth mentioning is the convenience of this particular location. There's a Starbucks a block away, perfectly situated on the streets that give you straight shots over the bridges and the freeway.
Very classy, old, centrally located hotel. It's not the fanciest place you'll ever see, but it's very clean and well run.
We were invited for the rehearsal dinner for a wedding. The atmosphere was pleasant, the wait staff coutious and prompt. Able to adapt plans to late starts and some abrupt changes.
I really enjoy staying at the Benson. This was at least my 5th trip staying there. The recent updates to to the rooms are very pleasant and modern.
My family took me to the Mother's day brunch and it was fantastic. The food was incredible. Bobby our server knew so much about the food, the hotel, and had a wonderful personality too! We had a great time and enjoyed exploring the history of the hotel. There was nearby parking if you aren't staying at the hotel and there is a doorman who will get you a cab if you need one too.
Just visiting my mom there. She really seemed to like it there.
Delightful stay. wish there was breakfast for the price though!
Beautiful historic hotel. Loved the room. Especially loved the shower.
Great atmosphere, wonderful check in with a very helpful staff. Room is very comfortable. I highly recommend.
A great place to stay in downtown Portland. Great restaurants and public transit close by.
Ordered a delicious breakfast from room service that arrived nice and warm. Chauffer service was nice but appeared to have staffing issues for my short duration
Clean and nice rooms. Walls are a bit thin so be prepared with ear plugs if your a light sleeper. Front desk was quick but not super helpful. Had no clue about the sipping hour or other activities until seeing them happening or in the elevator/paper ads. All and all a good place to stay with a central location with an affordable price tag.
Really nice hotel for the price. good rooms and very comfortable beds. Strange location though. It is downtown, but did not end up being close to anything much.
Room was big. Nice. But surprise resort fee. Was told it covers free wine & lobby internet. I dont drink. And didnt use internet. Overall nice place
Excellent concierge, great location and service... But the housekeeping seem to have knocked a toothbrush into the trash can.
Cnference location, beautiful place, good catering with veg/ vegan options. Very friendly, helpful staff. Love locally so didn't need a room but colleagues enjoyed their rooms.
The food was bland and elevators functional, but often clogged. Everything looks fine, and acoustics are very good. Wait staff polite and and unintrusive.
Rooms have been remodeled and no longer match the ambience and charm of the lobby. Are ultra modern and sterile. Web site still shows rooms with old world style that are no longer available. A disappointing change when looking for romantic lodging
Our favorite surprisingly kid friendly downtown happy hour but the secret might be out. Go for the gingerbread house during the holidays or any other time you're nearby.
Go there every year around the holidays. The bar tender Johan? Is great
Great hotel, wonderful staff, awesome all around experience.
Great location, great staff. Nice old hotel, clean and comfy. Walking distance to everything. Only complaint is no free wifi.. you get 3mb a day free and then have to pay. This is a little abnormal for North American hotels especially a Coast.
Stunning hotel in the heart of PDX. Close to Alphabet, Pearl, and other neighborhoods west.
A quality hotel , friendly staff and always helpful and informative , great location , great food and atmosphere , old world charm and i enjoyed my stay there and if i ever return to Portland this will be my first choice of accommodation
Beautiful hotell! I loved my stay in Portland Oregon. The Benson Hotel was very beautiful as well as clean and very friendly staff. The bed OMG it was so comfortable. Also it was right downtown in front of everything. Everything was walking distance. I would definitely stay at the Benson next time I visit Portland
Just visited the Benson for some pictures and rest while exploring. The place was beautifully decorated and the staff there was very welcoming even though we just came in for the place. Great Christmas tree in there too!
Rooms are small and located just on the edge of where it starts to get sketchy.
English:
Extremely small rooms not 4 * standard. Very old bathroom. Arrogant unhelpful staff. Vallet parking is 31 USD compared to other garages.
German:
Very small room the standard of the hotel completely inappropriate. Arrogant unhelpful staff. Faucets of the bath very old. Parking at 31 USD twice as expensive as in the area
Grete atmosphere, very nice rooms and the service is amazing !
The Benson is touted as a high-end boutique hotel. Unfortunately this was not my impression. At best I would describe it as everything else in Portland, dirty overpriced and dissappointing.
Let's start with the parking. There is none, save the valet that looked like he was strung out on meth.
Accessibility at the main entrance was lacking. You have to walk up three stairs to drag your suitcase into a revolving door. I watched the valet pretend to not notice as four flight attendants drug their bags up the stairs since the ramp entrance was closed. I can only assume this is to keep Portland's huge homeless heroin population out of the hotel.
At the front desk was a disheveled clerk that looked like the flight crew checking in had woke her up to begin what seemed to be a very labouris check in process for the flight crew. One would presume that a hotel like this would have the crew check in process down.
The wood paneling in the elevator was covered in pocket knife graffiti. The lighting in the halls appeared to be set at "horror movie murder."
The windows in the hotel room appeared to be the originals that came with the building when it was new, right down to the embedded chicken wire.
The door on the in room refrigerator was locked.
Overall a huge dissappointment.
One of nicest hotel in downtown Portland Oregon, it's lobby is gorgeous!!!
We've stayed at the Benson many times in the last 10 years. They never disappoint.
Classic old hotel and very unique atmosphere. Classy and great location right within walking distance of lots that Portland has to offer! Get here now
