My husband attended a conference here and I tagged along, man I'm glad I did. Yes, the resort is a little dated, but that's really the only downside and negligible in my opinion. You can't ask for a better location. Right on Mission Bay, two minute walk to the ocean, lots of great food within walking distance. The grounds of the resort are very pretty, koi ponds and pretty vegetation. The pool is nice and having a room that faced the pool we appreciated that it closed at 10pm. All the staff were friendly and really helpful. I thought housekeeping went above and beyond cleaning our room. Looking forward to coming back!

I lived in the Tower, a building that was well past its prime. The elevator (my room was on the 8th floor) got stuck a few times, the furniture and carpets as well as the balcony looked shabby. The waterfall in the lobby really looks good, but that's about it. You then walk through a garden to the tower, exotic birds on one side and koi anderens on the other; that too is not quite to my taste. A luggage service was not offered. The hotel is on Mission Bay, near the Pacific. A couple of pubs, grocery stores, and pharmacy are 2-3 blocks away. Nevertheless, next time in San Diego I would rather stay downtown, as there are newer hotels and then e.g. B. the Gaslamp District offers more dining and entertainment options.
This became a favorite place of mine to take my clients or vendors on business lunches. If you sit outside you are right near the beach and can enjoy the scenic view and the bay breeze.
Second time I've had a party there. Still pretty much the same -overpriced. It's a nice place and all, but I've yet to see the real difference between a 4 star and 5 star place, except the location.
You will be lucky to stay at this charming hotel located directly across the street from the ocean and close proximity to local favorites World Famous ocean view with the best eggs Benedicts open for breakfast @7 and later for their renowned lobster bisque and a nice walk to the pier to Kono s also for early breakfast but fast and to go. The Catamaran staff is amazing and if you re lucky again you ll run into Evan, Annie or Paige. Beautiful grounds if you re in a cottage (my favorite) or view rooms in the tower. Very very clean. Pool and jacuzzi (whirlpool ) perfect temperatures. Truly a great experience.
The restaurant service was slow. We ordered appetizers to share and had to ask for small plates although it was obvious you would need them for sharing to not make a mess.
One of the appetizers came with four small slices of bruschetta but enough topping for eight slices. When the waiter reappeared with our main course orders, we asked for more bruschetta. As we ordered desert, they cleared away the appetizer because we had given up on the bruschetta arriving and shortly thereafter it arrived but now we had no topping.
The staff was very cordial and the setting is wonderful but be prepared for a leisurely meal.
Wierd smell in the room. Outdated. Air conditioning is not adequate. The entire place could use a make over. The pool however is great and the bay is cool as well.
Awesome resort. This places has a little bit of everything & in a great area. Great for family or romantic getaways. Book a night, you wont be disappointed.
Our families favorite vacation spot! So many things for families with children to do at this resort as well as for a get away with your loved one! The resturant is wonderful and location and landscape is even better!
You can't beat the view at the beautiful bayside rooms here. The location is amazing. The rooms are pretty good, but definitely could use an update here and there. The mini fridge had broken off pieces inside so it couldn't hold as much. One of the cabinets was wonky so one door had to get closed first or else it wouldn't close. The shower was hard to push off shut all the way. The people here are outstanding though. They have lots of activities for adults and kids. The pool is great! You feel like you're on a Hawaiian vacation in the middle of mission beach! The biggest thing we can't stand is the incredibly slow service of the restaurant at breakfast. We went there the other morning. It wasn't very crowded, there were plenty of servers on and yet our whole breakfast from sitting down to getting the check took almost 2 hours! Our server was so nice but it is always painfully slow! But there are lots of other breakfast places around!
My son's wedding took place here on the sand by the bay. Beautiful venue. Very accommodating staff. Highly recommend for special occassions or just getting away.
Kudos to the young ladies at the Front desk. Delizbeth, Aja, Kristin, and Destiny are exemplary employees who turned a nice stay into a memorable destination I will be returning to!! Honorable mention to Brett, Kyle and the rest of your Valet. Friendly, prompt, courteous, and quick to offer a helpful hand with genuine sincerity. The ground keepers manicure this exquisite resort daily, and the housekeepers always gave service with a smile. A MUST STAY for anyone, and everyone.
Sort of a hidden oasis in an urban jungle. The hotel is between a Bay & the beach. There's is no private beach that I found. The hotel supplies lawn chairs on the bay side, it is a beach, however it is public (and that's a good thing).
Front desk staff are polite & efficient. The rooms are very clean and large. About the size of a starter studio apartment. Each room has a balcony, a real one with furniture and sizeable enough to get 6 or so people out there comfortably.
Very nice hotel in an ideal area. Would both return and also recommend without any hesitation.
My wife and I picked the Catamaran and Oceana Coastal Kitchen to have our wedding reception and dinner last weekend. The property is beautiful. It has lush landscaping with ponds and a waterfall in the lobby. There are exotic birds, ducks, turtles, and koi fish as well. Very beautiful Polynesian style to the property. We got 2 rooms for 4 nights and paid a tad over $1500 with our travel network. Upon check-in, we were charged another $535 for resort fees and incident deposit. The $400 incident deposit was a surprise, never saw that amount stated anywhere, but it was refundable. Once we got to the room we were immediately disappointed. We paid for a room with a "garden view," but received a room that had a view of the parking lot, parking structure, and the side entrance and exit to the property from the front. From the back, there was a large patio area with a view of a small grass area with a few small trees and the side of the next building and its stair case. No garden in sight, this was a lawn. The garden was in the center of the property. The room itself was clean but very old. Wallpaper had bubbles in it and was peeling in many different spots. The light in the entrance way, the light above the vanity, and the light in the bathroom all flickered very badly. To the point that my wife couldn't get ready for the wedding in there. She had sit out on the bed to get ready. The AC was a central design and took 5 hours to cool the room. There is no fan in the bathroom. Only a 1 x 1 square window you can open. Whoever did the grout for the tile floor in the bathroom was terrible. Ugly stray grout marks all over the place. The toilet was crooked and pointed towards the wall. Which made sitting on it interesting. The faucet in the bathtub was broken and literally turned in circles on the wall. Last time we got a hotel room, my wife and I got a Motel 6 room for about $55/night. It was nicer, newer, and cleaner than the room at the Catamaran for $158/night.
Moving over to the second room which my father checked into before we got there. We prepaid everything for my father so he could just show ID and pickup his key. Which worked out well. Somehow, my dad ended up with a tower studio that had a full kitchenette and a 7th floor balcony view of the ocean. Needless to say I was a bit jealous considering I bought both rooms and they were supposed to be the same, and I'm the groom. However, the second room still had the same flickering light issue in the vanity area and in the bathroom. My dad did not like the bed in the room. The room was also dated but didn't seem to have as many issues as the first room.
Fast forwarding to the night of the wedding, we came back to the property for our reception dinner at Oceana Coastal Kitchen. We ran a little late and the restaurant was gracious enough to hold our reservation. But the food was subpar. Ribeyes were thin cut less than 1" thick, Sea Bass was overcooked and dry, Roast Chicken and sushi was ok, and the Crab Fritters were great. Service was absolutely terrible. Waiter was unattentive and missed people's orders. I had to actually get up and walk around the restaurant to find someone to help us on multiple occasions. Bill was $736 for 17 people with 18% gratuity. We gave the waiter $750 and he brought me receipts. No change. I had to go ask for my change. The waiter tried to play it off like he meant to give it to me. But c'mon. I fully intended to give it to him, but since he was gonna steal it, I gave him nothing. I already paid over $100 in gratuity anyways.
For over $2250 spent for what we got, we are highly disappointed. They only good thing about this place is the location and the coffee shop. Eat at The World Famous across the street on the boardwalk. Far better food and service. Catamaran is just not worth the money!
This was quite the place. Honestly, extremely beautiful. Nice pool, free arcade, bar and restaurant, nice flora and ponds with pretty koi fish. Nice views of the beach. If you re staying in the area, this is the place to sleep.
Very well kept Hotel. The restaurant Oceana has fabulous food and the view is amazing. lots of this vs to look at, koi ponds, waterfall, birds, turtles.
Here for Sunday brunch. Fantastic seafood bar. The best part was Stacy our server. He was very friendly and gracious with us and our 4 year old. A professional and a real gentleman.
I think it was amazing. The room service was awesome and the things that are complimentary were amazing. I went on the loop around mission bay and its so cool. There was only one thing wrong and its that the wifi wasnt working the best, Its relaxing with an outside filled with ducks, fish, trees, and the inside has a waterfall with fish!! I loved it, if you want a relaxing place just stay here.
One of the most beautiful venues in San Diego. Upscale feel with casual atmosphere. Resort environment, lovely foremost and torched at night, views from many seats of the bay. Food is above average, a bit spendy but de ent portions. Service personnel are lovely and nice though often significant delays, not a hood place of your in a rush.
The only thing we really enjoyed is wild life . The room stinks and outdated. There were spider webs everywhere , looks like no one checks housekeeping work. Not coming back .
Stayed here for a sponsored event. Great staff, good room, and good atmosphere. Resort sits right off mission bay with its own beachfront with access to the pacific beach directly across the street. Excellent walking distance to shops and other restaurants just in case you don t want to dine on the resort. Will definitely be visiting the area again and this resort is on the top of the list.
Went to the Easter Brunch with my family. The food was outstanding, the service was attentive. The staff was smiling and helpful! It could not have been better! The sail on Mission Bay with the Bahia Belle was icing on the cake!
I was expecting an excellent room. The kitchen is so dated. The bathroom/ restroom is also dated. Tiles are poorly re grouted and it smells urine even tough the tiles looks clean. Microwave makes grinding noise due to broken part inside. For the price of this room it's so disappointing. And on top of that when my kids took a shower the bath tub is not draining!!!!
ladies do not work at this place! they will hire you summer time cause they are so busy then when summer is over, will fire you. Thats not cool. it happen to someone i know
Had a great time with out of town guests at the luau. Fun! The food was pretty good, considering how many people they were feeding, all at the same time, but not sure it was worth the high cost. Demand dictates price, however, and this place was packed!
Had a really good time at the Catamaran resort. We placed a special request with them for my wife's birthday and they upgraded us to a tower suite overlooking the bay. They also sent in a wine and fruit hamper. Really enjoyed watersports at the resort and the cruise which was complimentary.
Great view the bay!!! Has a gorgeous waterfall in the lobby and amazing customer service. I was here to help work a professional event and the director was a huge help! She escorted me to where I needed to be, helped me carry stuff up from my car and let me know who I needed to talk to. Great experience! Will definitely recommend this place in the future.
Boyfriend's parents stay here every time they visit. The Bayside rooms are lovely - beautiful view of the sunset/rise over the water. The tropical birds are fun too. Staff has always been courteous.
This hotel is one of the worst I have ever stayed in my 30 years of work travel. When i was delayed yesterday, i called to make sure my reservations were not going to be dropped given my midnight arrival. They say ok. However, when i get here, i am assigned a room in a tower away from the lobby, given a map, and sent out on a darkened path with no lights on the signage. Finally i get to my room, go into the space where the light at the bedside is out, and when i look out, i see the parking deck. 3000 miles and i get the room by the elevator that goes up and down all night. Wake up this morning to see black mold looking marks to the ceiling. Go to my conference, walk ouside and perch on a wall (no signage) and get told i am blocking the view.
Great atmosphere beautiful scenery attentive wait staff very clean including the restroom even on a busy Sunday for brunch. Delicious cold fresh seafood amazing selection of exotic fruits and vegetables. Delicious assortments of desserts.
Customer Service is atrocious.. Employed Security acts worse than SDPD.. Entire Employee force makes accusations and assumptions towards guest by racially profiling, separating by material and treating those customers in less expensive rooms than those in high dollar lofts..
I have eaten at the restaurant many times, and the food is delightful. There is an excellent view of the boardwalk and bay, and the service is always excellent.
I also use their rental facility for paddle boards. The staff is friendly, accomodating, and informative. We had a slight mixup with our rental, and the staff sorted everything out and allowed us to enjoy the day as planned.
Catamaran is a 3 star resort for 5 star pricing. Don't get me wrong, the amenities are great, but the rooms are very dated and need a good deep cleaning. Old carpet, wallpaper, cracked wood, cobwebs on the deck (big ones!). I could overlook all of that if it were a rate more appropriate, but if I'm paying that much, I'm going to expect a certain level.
We stayed 3 nights and our room was never cleaned. First day we had do not disturb up until 9, but the next two it was open for cleaning. We didn't even care about cleaning, but some fresh washclothes and toilet paper would have been nice!
I'd recommend dropping the prices, or renovating. Get it on a discount if you can, not worth full price.
Nice resort however the rooms are extremely dated and the bathrooms in our room were not clean. Not worth the rates they charge and not planning to stay again.
