The Catamaran is a lovely Hotel with a gorgeous tropical feel. It is set overlooking beautiful Mission Bay, the main building, the high rise, the upscale Oceano restaurant and bar and beautiful grounds speak to the senses.

This beautiful Hotel and Spa offer a lot for those visiting or staying there. The restaurant has great food and drink (the restaurant has a nice outdoor patio that overlooks Mission Bay). Great staff that cater to your every request. The staff is completely unobtrusive and very helpful.

The Catamaran is a hotel that is hard to beat. If you choose to get a room in the high rise (separate from main complex) you will have gorgeous views from every room.. The south side faces Mission Bay and downtown San Diego in the distance. The north faces Pacific Beach and sunsets. The grounds are very well manicured. Sports it's own dock for daily boat excursion.

Bike rental on the property and a great boardwalk that extends for miles in both direction to satisfy the explorer in you. Just a couple of blocks away is the famous destination boardwalk of Pacific Beach (north to Crystal Pier, Garnet Ave and even more to lower La Jolla and one of my favorite clifftop picnic visits is Palisade Park). To the south on the boardwalk you can walk or bike it to Mission Beach, Belmont Park (roller coaster and amusement theme park) and continue on to the Mission Beach jetty. The bay boardwalk and the ocean front boardwalk are just a couple of blocks apart. The bay boardwalk (heading south) will lead you through bayside green grassed park and white sand bay beaches. About 5 blocks is a public recreation (at Santa Clara Point). A little further there is a boat marina, then Belmont Park and further to the jetty park area. Beautiful homes all along this boardwalk.

Very relaxed feel that you will love at this resort style Hotel.

Honestly, room is ok (tower room). Unfortunately, it is very noisy where we are at. Car horns, elevators, and cart wheels on cobblestones. We've been waiting for a possible room change, but I've been lingering for a hour without an answer. Upside, the location is pretty great.

The rooms and facilities are nice, we had lunch on the private beach. However, the WiFi in the room is horrible, and the AC control panel looks super outdated. I also wish there is an inner lock in the hotel room, just like hotels elsewhere.

Truly poor in every area. Room was in a dark corner of the property, overlooking a noisy backstreet neighborhood. No hot water in the shower. Food on the property was poor and facilities uncomfortable. Nothing outside the "resort" as an alternative for dining within walking distance. Asked to be moved to a different room but was refused. Went away extremely disappointed.

There was an additional $25 fee for parking, there were spiders on the beds, the showerhead was 7ft up and pointing at the wall. Im 5'2" so I couldn't reach it to adjust it. The pipes squeaked loudly if you were taking a shower and someone flushed a toilet. For $300/night it was awful!

Very dated. T.v. stand not very functional; tv is within a cabinet and the doors block the view. T.v. doesn't pull out. No elevator to 2nd floor. Dirty q-tip left on the floor near the kitchen/bathroom. Also not a fan of the kichen/bathroom combo.

I visited here 3 days ago and the food and ambiance was as awesome as I remembered from a visit a few years ago. As many have written before, the lobby is so welcoming, and the koi pond is so unique and special. There are seats beside it so you can just sit and enjoy. Truly relaxing. The food at this restaurant is delicious and the view of the water and the sea world light tree is really nice at their outdoor seating area. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating when we considered moving for a closer heat lamp. I ve never stayed here so I cannot speak to that aspect.

I have experienced the massage spa a few years ago, and it was truly a gift. The massage was great, and as part of that you get to use the spa area the entire day, including the work out area, sauna, and hot tub. Being back for dinner made me really look forward to that area opening back up so I can hopefully get another massage there.

Definitely recommend this place for everything I have experienced so far.

Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Stayed for 3 nights, requested cookware to be in the room, was not completed. First night needed maintenance to fix tub plunger to bath or 9 month old. Second day the stove was not working, only 1 of 4 rings worked, it s probably older me and I m 40 years, time to update. Collection of waste and utensils very slow, with Covid only disposable utensils which we needed to all reception each day for. Gardens are lovely and location is great, Parked on the street as resort parking was $27 per day. Restaurant was very good, no issue there. For the rate $$ this resort should invest in there rooms, I m sure in the 1980 s this was a top hotel

It is amazing! They have great food. They have fun rooms to hang out in. And the ocean is in walking distance. I loved it even more because they are very welcoming. And they have beautiful land. I loved it! Uh

Best of both worlds with the Bay in the back & the Ocean in the front. But the hotel definitely needs to remodel bathrooms. My friend is short and I'm tall she even felt like she was going to fall sitting on the toilet, it's so Flippin low. Plus there's no window or vents in there. Altogether way to small of a bathroom. The employees were very nice also.

The Bayside location was beautiful! We loved walking the walkway and seeing all the ducks and fish. The parrots on the Christmas tree were fun. The room was clean and comfortable. We will absolutely stay here again!

This place was so beautiful, there are lagoons with ducks and koi fish and the landscaping was so lush and junglelike that I thought I was in Costa Rica! We were literally 50 feet from Mission Bay and about 100 feet from pacific beach! I will definitely be back here!!

I had breakfast at the Oceana patio: bagel with lox, fresh squeezed juice. Service was spot on as was the food. The only thing was the bagel, if they had a fresher and more options for the bagel it would have been perfect.

The hotel is just okay. Really should consider updating. Crusted ceilings? Really? At $300-$400 a night the customers should get more. My biggest issue is the fact that the hotel took an $800 deposit last Thursday and my money, that I needed for vacation, is still pending a week later. Not cool. Not cool at all. No other hotel takes an $800 deposit from their patrons. Absurd. I give this hotel a 4 out of 10.

Though the outside of the resort is beautiful, the rooms are in despirate need of an upgrade! The smell of mildue was overwhelming and there was mold on the wall, room 216!!! There was groute missing in the shower and defunately NOT worth the cost being that this was a motel! Had we not had a large group we would have changed locations. Service was decent. Food at the restaurant was ehhh. Only positive was the location and being able to walk to the beach or lounge by the pool or bay.

Ill start by saying the service was excellent there. The rooms themselves had issues with the ac unit that didn't work. The room felt humid. The room service was good but the restaurant in the hotel is overpriced. Expect everything to be overpriced as usual. Parking is an extra charge. The best feature of the hotel was that it had access to the bay and rentals which was nice.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 5 nights celebrating our 3rd year anniversary in San Diego from Texas. First trip to San Diego and California. The staff here are very nice and the view from our room (top floor) overlooked both the bay and ocean. So pretty! The birds and fish on hotel grounds are gorgeous and the ducks like to swim in the pool Also the Oceana restaraunt at the hotel is very good. Get the eggs Benedict for breakfast and the California seabass for dinner. Da bomb! Seriously though if I could live here I would it's that great. Maybe one day. All in all if you're ever in San Diego you can't get much better than Catamaran. Simply amazing place!

The location, near the beaches, is nice. The restaurant and bar are nice, and have good food. The staff is universally friendly (including the cleaning staff, who were incredibly nice), the pool is fun and clean, and the games that work in the arcade are a hit with the kids. The ducks (and ducklings!) wandering around are cute. The parrots are also entertaining for our kids. The Wifi worked great.

But once you pay all the taxes and parking, it is $400/night. And for that kind of money I don't expect nice -- I expect fabulous. And although the grounds are nice, our room smelled strongly of mildew, and it would make your eyes itch if you spend any time in it. The carpet was quite old, and stained. The shower head was mounted to not point down, you could only point it as the far wall of the shower -- which meant the spray didn't reach my kids bodies (they were not tall enough to reach it). This also meant the overspray was visibly damaging the wall and door outside of the shower, but there was no sign of them caring (as the rust bubbles in the doorframe showed this clearly had been going on for quite a while). The thermostat didn't let you set a desired temperature, just "warmer" and "cooler". The only way to close the room door was to slam it, so good luck if one of you wants to go for a walk if your kids were asleep. There were not enough accessible plugs to charge our electronic gadgets (only two). Honestly, the room was more like a poorly maintained budget motel, and didn't match the rest of the resort.

The kicker -- they are afraid to raise the prices on the restaurant menu, so they simply posted a sign saying they'll charge you 3% more than the listed prices. Classy.

After this we stayed in the Legoland Castle hotel (which admittedly, is brand new but the price is similar) and the difference was like night and day.

Room was clean and was ready early as requested. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The grounds were well maintained as well. We could have skipped the onsite restaurants, there are so many great options within walking distance of the hotel. Online registration is a bit tricky if you do it directly. You can "reserve" spa appointments or boat/bike/etc rentals, even lets you pick the time and date as well. When you check out it will even list out your choices. However, this is not a true reservation or rental. The resort is suppose to email your requests to the spa, action sports, etc and then they will contact you. The spa called us a few days later (which before I understood what was going on) to set up our appointment and I was a little confused on what was going on. I had to give the credit card once again, which lead to a little worry about what was going on and why did the spa AT the resort need my card again. Had I not been a type A and called to confirm, we would not had a boat rental for the day and time requested. Its a bit misleading on what is going on and that they only thing the resort is providing you is an "estimate"

We had drinks and apps at the outdoor bar area. We were lucky to get a table as in the summers the luau is on Tuesday night and people sit at the bar waiting for the luau to start. Service is a bit slow but happy hour beer and wines are worth it.

there is Birds ponds a beach close to you and a pool I loved the stay , I stayed here for my make a wish it was amazing I love the experience of like a Hawaiian theme and today I went to a luau while it was an awesome experience.

I was here for a conference and so didn t get to use any of the resort amenities. The rooms are definitely dated and should be renovated. Especially the dirty carpets and bathrooms.

The electrical is an issue - no outlets or mirror in the bathroom and only outlet in that area is low beside the vanity. And for the life of me I couldn t find the switch for the patio light.

Overall an ok stay. If I had kids I m sure the pool and beach would ve been wonderful. The luau was just ok too. The entertainment was good, but the food was subpar for a $50 luau.

This place is absolutely gorgeous!! Beautiful waterfall and coy pond as soon as you walk in the front entrance. I was there for a lunch with family at one of the restaurants and it was also lovely with amazing art work and a aqaurium of moon jelly fish. Our food and service at the restaurant were great! Will definitely be returning.

I really like this resort. I attended a multi day conference. The resort appeared to be very accommodating to the organizers. They had iced and room temperature water during sessions which was a nice touch for those who don't drink ice water. Our group enjoyed morning and afternoon Qigong on the lawn overlooking the bay. It was lovely. The subcontract coffee kiosk was convenient though food offerings were pricey and just so so. Bathrooms were clean and maintained. It was perfect to go for walks on the grounds and along the bay shore or sit on the beach or at the restaurant enjoying the view and fabulous weather.

I visit San Diego a couple times a year & always stay at the Catamaran. The rooms are always clean & the staff is always first class accommodating. The Oceana Restaurant serves the best Bloody Marys in Mission Bay.
